The Japan Era
“The Japan era” is editorial shorthand for several Japan-centred runs of HIMR material, not a claim that Daniel lived in Japan continuously. The archive documents Daniel’s retrospective 2010–2014 travel accounts, an early 2016 vlog sequence, another sequence beginning in September 2017, domestic and relationship-labelled material during 2018–2019, and later Japan-labelled videos. Dates on this page are archive record labels unless a sentence explicitly says otherwise.
Chronology

The letters below use the Patreon Source Catalogue’s access scheme: P means the full body was visible signed out at the dated audit, while L means the body-derived summary comes from the access-controlled preservation copy. No Patreon image or locked prose is reproduced here.
The separate Patreon partner and social-role map reconciles the 2011 guesthouse/2014 near-marriage cluster, first in-person Japanese girlfriend, online first girlfriend, Korean and French former-girlfriend, and Taiwanese social labels without treating overlapping posts as identity proof.
Daniel claims in the locked body of Studying Korean (May 4, 2017, L) that its photograph was taken while he was in Osaka in 2010, where he remembers studying Korean each day. In another locked retrospective, I used to have a social life (June 7, L), Daniel characterizes Japan as both an escape from England and a place where he once had a more active social life. The latter is a subjective account of why he returned, not travel documentation or evidence about anyone pictured.
Two South-Korea-labelled posts preserve separate year markers. Daniel claims in Me and my cousins in South Korea (June 24, L) that Malaysian relatives joined him in South Korea in 2014 and that he navigated into Seoul independently on that occasion. The July 19 public title Me in Korea 2012 (L) supplies a separate creator-used 2012 label. These records can describe different visits; the archive does not collapse them into one trip, authenticate the photographs’ dates, or treat Daniel’s recollection as his relatives’ or former girlfriend’s account.
The strongest reader-accessible detail is the public body of Room I stayed in during first trip to Japan (July 15, P). Daniel says he used the pictured Osaka room for five months on his first Japan trip, about seven years before the post, and associates that trip with a laptop his father bought for him. That supports a five-month recollection, not a verified 2010 lease, continuous residence, address, immigration category, or exact arrival and departure dates. His references in the same public post to later returns also remain retrospective self-report.
Creator retrospectives on language study, a Japan job, and college
Section titled “Creator retrospectives on language study, a Japan job, and college”Three raw-backed videos add a narrower version of Daniel’s education and early-Japan self-history than the unsourced biography repeated elsewhere. Two separate offline transcription passes materially agree on the high-level points below. Nobody directly heard the audio for this review, so these remain attributed research leads rather than verified speech or external records.
In WHY I quit my Job in Japan, the two passes render Daniel saying that he went to Japan in 2011 on a working-holiday visa, took convenience-store work, encountered language difficulties, quit, briefly tried another job, and left after roughly four months. This does not establish a visa, employer, job duration, or travel boundary.
In How I learned Japanese, the passes render Daniel describing himself as internet-taught rather than taught at school or college. His account places his first exposure to Japanese at age 17, roughly two years of anime viewing before deliberate study, and a claimed pass at JLPT Level 2 in 2009. The sequence corrects a common conflation: in his account, the two years preceded formal self-study; they were not described simply as two years of language classes. No score report or certificate was authenticated in this review.
In Why I will never go back to school, the same two models render a separate account: Daniel says that, at 23 and about five years before the video, he entered a computer-science college course and stopped after about four weeks because he had no interest in it. The source does not name an institution, and it does not connect this course causally or immediately to his 2011 Japan account.
2016: the first archived Japan vlog run
Section titled “2016: the first archived Japan vlog run”One clearly Japan-labelled sequence in the preserved 2016 index includes
Thai festival Yoyogi park — Japan Vlog day 2 on May 15. The linked raw video is
present in Internet Archive item 69999. A July 29 record is titled leaving japan
forever, but that label is not treated as proof of a permanent move. Together, the
titles establish a Japan-centred run in the archive; they do not establish exact
arrival, residency, or departure dates.
July 2016: a radiation-themed creator title
Section titled “July 2016: a radiation-themed creator title”The same run contains a July 1 record titled Japan’s radiation problem — They lied to us. This establishes that Daniel published a radiation-themed first-person commentary, not that he was exposed to radiation, had a particular medical condition, or that an unnamed party lied.
A supplied community timeline describes a radiation “delusion” and treats “Skin Man” as a nickname. The raw source review does not establish either formulation. Two independent transcription passes materially agree that, around 01:49–01:55 of the complete 02:24 file, Daniel imagines becoming a mutant and proposes Skin Man as a superhero-style name. Nobody directly heard the audio for this review, so this is an unverified machine-audio lead, not a quotation or verified speech. It supports the term’s likely source and hypothetical mutant/superpower framing only—not a diagnosis, sincere radiation belief, or recurring nickname. Direct listening remains open in the maintainers’ Skin Man / radiation audio-review queue.
The archive transcript displays 01:49 as the whole record’s duration even though the mapped raw file runs about 02:24. That 35-second mismatch is why the locator follows raw-media time rather than transcript time.
July–August 2016: the Taiwan-labelled vlog run
Section titled “July–August 2016: the Taiwan-labelled vlog run”The archive then preserves a six-record Taiwan-labelled sequence from July 29 to August 25. Four titles explicitly call themselves vlogs; the other two are a Pokémon Go title and the emphatic closing label LEAVING TAIWAN FOREVER. This fills an otherwise missing part of the 2016 East Asia chronology:

The table establishes distinct raw-video identities and creator labels. Filename dates remain archive sorting labels, “day 3” does not supply missing day-one/day-two records, and the sequence does not by itself prove exact filming locations, travel dates, residence, school attendance, or permanent departure.
What the Taiwan vlogs show
Section titled “What the Taiwan vlogs show”Selected raw frames add context to the title list. The July 30-labelled mountain vlog includes a broad water-and-hills view at 01:00 and an in-car shot at 02:00. The next filename-labelled day’s Going to school in Taiwan opens with its own “TAIWAN / DAY 3 / IN THE MOUNTAINS” card at 00:10. Thus even the source’s internal day label should not be converted into an exact itinerary: the two separately dated files both use “day 3” framing.
The school title also should not be read as evidence of enrolment. At 03:50 and 04:20, sampled frames show classroom interiors without visible pupils. Machine text at 02:37.290–02:39.984 and 05:56.009–06:04.934 presents this as a school visit or tour, not a study-history claim. The footage does not establish the institution, permission to film, attendance, pupil numbers or the accuracy of the video’s wider commentary about the area.
The August 21-labelled Bowling video is another departure from a simple travel diary: the sampled 02:00 frame shows monochrome bowling-lane footage, between colour talking-head frames at 01:00 and 02:30. This supports an edited recreation-video format, not a verified score, skill judgment or identity for any other participant.
2017: a new Japan sequence and longer-stay framing
Section titled “2017: a new Japan sequence and longer-stay framing”Two transcript records labelled September 22—First day in Japan — I feel so alone and Japan adventure 2017 — Day 1—resolve to media files with the same SHA-1 hash. They should therefore be treated as alternate archive records for one media object, not two independently corroborating videos.
This also corrects the supplied community timeline’s October 2017 relocation marker. The preserved “Day 1” source trail begins on September 22, 2017. Two separate transcription passes over the raw opening materially agree in rendering Daniel saying that he was in a room in Japan, had arrived roughly an hour earlier, and had spoken with a manager about the room or contract. Nobody directly heard the audio, so this is an unverified arrival account rather than an exact travel, residence, city, or lease finding. The archive label itself is not proof that the video was recorded or published on the day of arrival.
By December, the index contains I’M STAYING IN JAPAN! and Japanese apartment tour — how much does rent cost. Those titles document the channel’s public framing of a longer stay, while exact housing and immigration arrangements remain unestablished by those titles.
2018: marriage-labelled material
Section titled “2018: marriage-labelled material”The March 15 archive record is titled WE GOT MARRIED. This proves how the upload was presented, not that a legal marriage occurred on or near the filename date. Two separate transcription passes materially agree at 02:06–02:44 that Daniel said registration had happened several days earlier, called himself married, acknowledged that he then had no paper to display, and expected documentation later. At 05:51–06:14, both render him describing the paperwork and signing as complete and reporting that an official said they were technically married.
No reviewer directly heard the audio, no civil record was reviewed, and the generic source does not identify the wife as Chihiro. Later application steps and witness, family, and immigration detail are omitted. This is an unverified account attributed to Daniel, not a legal-status or identity finding.
Later 2018 records include joint and domestic labels such as Mcdonalds Q&A with my Wife. Separately, 2019 titles explicitly name Chihiro. Connecting every generic “wife” title to a specific legal identity would require a stronger audio and visual review than this page has completed.
2019: a Chihiro-named cooking video
Section titled “2019: a Chihiro-named cooking video”The archive contains an August 29 video titled Cooking with Chihiro — Japanese Fried Chicken Recipe. The raw video visibly shows Chihiro preparing food. This establishes a Chihiro-named, 2019-labelled cooking appearance; it does not establish the video’s location or verify surrounding relationship commentary.
Late 2019: homelessness-labelled source sequence
Section titled “Late 2019: homelessness-labelled source sequence”Three raw-backed titles form a short public framing sequence: Living in a tent — being homeless in Japan on October 29, Selling my iPhone 11 to avoid homelessness on October 31, and How to survive as a homeless man in Japan on November 15. Together they establish repeated creator use of tent and homelessness wording. They do not establish Daniel’s housing status, living arrangements, a sale, or whether the presentation was sincere, staged, or a “hoax.” The dedicated 2019 “Homeless Hoax” source review adds checked frames and Daniel’s explicitly unverified, two-model machine-rendered disclosures without turning them into verified speech.
2020: a divorce-labelled upload
Section titled “2020: a divorce-labelled upload”The February 18 archive record is titled I am now Officially Divorced. Its audio has not been directly heard, and no civil record is cited on this page. Two separate transcription passes materially agree at 00:01–00:30 that Daniel said he received an image presented to him as filed divorce paperwork. At 01:29–02:44, both render him attributing the breakdown to time spent on Discord rather than with his wife, a lack of common ground and a language barrier, and an inability or unwillingness to change. At 04:05–04:17, he is machine-rendered acknowledging uncertainty over whether the paper meant a finalized divorce or merely that papers had been received.
The account remains Daniel’s alone. No independently authenticated other-party account was located in the bounded review, and the generic source does not identify the wife as Chihiro. Cheating, court, and private-message details are excluded.
This title is a useful end marker for the core Japan/Chihiro publication sequence. It does not establish a legal event, its date, or the other party’s identity, and it does not end all later Japan-related material.
Later Japan-labelled records
Section titled “Later Japan-labelled records”The September 4, 2020-labelled I’M BACK IN JAPAN is an important limit on reading travel chronology from titles. AI-assisted inspection of raw frames identified the Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories demo title screen on a Nintendo Switch at 00:15, character selection at 01:40, and gameplay at 13:20. This visual reading has not received human verification. These are video-game images, not footage establishing a return journey to Japan. The title should not be counted as a separate relocation or border crossing.
Japan remained a recurring subject in archive titles. For example, the preserved archive links raw video to a record labelled Exploring the Slums of Osaka in Japan on March 30, 2023. It establishes a later Japan-labelled record, not the truth of the title’s characterization.
An undated return-to-UK retrospective
Section titled “An undated return-to-UK retrospective”The recovered Why i had to leave Japan adds an account beyond those later title labels. Its machine transcript renders Daniel saying that he had returned to the UK about two days earlier after nearly two years away across Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan. It subsequently renders him giving depleted funds and the end of a 90-day entry period as reasons for leaving Japan. This is his retrospective explanation, not independently checked travel, financial, or immigration evidence. The retained source has no established publication date, so it cannot supply an exact departure date or be inserted into a particular month simply from its account of elapsed time.
December 2024: ex-wife-following and police-warning account
Section titled “December 2024: ex-wife-following and police-warning account”The archive file labelled December 7, 2024, my japanese ex wife reported me too the POLICE, contains Daniel’s retrospective account of a Japan visit earlier that year. The filename does not establish the incident date. This is a separate source from the later civil-order and paper-delivery material; no connection between the described matters is established.
The machine pass renders Daniel disputing the characterization of his behavior as stalking while describing checking whether his ex-wife still lived at their former home, waiting, and following someone he believed was her. He presents nostalgia and reassurance as his reasons, and says he did not intend to confront her. Those are his explanations, not established intentions or a justification. His own description of waiting and following remains material even alongside his denial. The wiki does not reproduce the source’s whereabouts, route or surveillance timings, identify the person he saw, or determine whether a crime occurred.
In the later passage, the pass renders him saying police questioned him, called the described behavior stalking, provided a leaflet and told him to stop contact and following. Crucially, he also says he was not arrested, describing the outcome as a warning. The source’s claim that his ex-wife reported him, and its account of what police said, remain second-hand assertions by Daniel. Neither an arrest, charge, conviction, formal order nor the legal status of the claimed warning is established here.
He also attributes removal of several Japan livestreams to the encounter. His framing changes in specificity: the opening says he was not allowed to discuss it on YouTube, while the later retelling renders the police answer as advice that discussing it would make matters worse. That distinction is preserved rather than turning his account into a verified publication ban. The review does not establish which streams disappeared, why they were removed, or whether any restriction was legally imposed.
Page verification status
Section titled “Page verification status”This page is source matched. Archive identities, dates, filenames, duplicate hashes, raw-video availability, and the six-record Taiwan title run were checked against the retained source manifest. The visible cooking segment was spot-checked. The language-study, Japan-work, college-course, and two relationship accounts are published only as two-model machine-rendered self-accounts attributed to Daniel; no audio was directly perceived, and education, employment, legal, identity, and immigration claims have not been promoted to “video checked.”
The later imported machine leads—including the December 2024 police-warning and stream-removal account—are separately warned and are not described as two-model agreement or independently corroborated events. Sampled Taiwan and game frames support only the narrow visual descriptions cited above.
