Why I Hated My Ex Girlfriend

Today's video is about my first ever

girlfriend. 10 years ago in 2010, I had

this Japanese girlfriend that I met on a

website called japan-cupid.com. Oh, Japan

Cupid. I have to say, japan-cupid.com has

to be one of my favorite websites ever

because it's just— it's given me so much

joy and pleasure over the years. 10 years

ago, I was about 20 years old, a very

young man, and I was working as an office

junior in the same company that my dad

worked in. I was trying to save up money

so I could go to Japan for the very first

time, and whilst I was working at this

company, I was on japancupid.com trying to

find a potential girlfriend that I could

meet up with when I arrived in Japan. And

that's how I met my first ever girlfriend.

She was about the same age as me, and she

was a university student. We started

chatting to each other, and after a few

days, we fell in love and started talking

about meeting up. I told her I was

planning to go to Japan very soon, and

this excited her. She said, let's meet up

and start dating. As you can imagine, I

was pretty nervous about going to Japan.

It was the first time I had ever gone to

Japan, and it was also the first time I

had ever gone abroad by myself. After I

finally saved up enough money at my dad's

company, I decided to quit, and I booked

my plane tickets to Japan. And I met my

girlfriend at the airport. She was waiting

for me there, and it was really awkward

when we saw each other in real life.

Let's just say I felt a little bit

disappointed. Before meeting, we did talk

on Skype a lot, and we used webcams, so I

knew what she looks like on video, but for

some reason in real life she just— she

still looked a little bit different to how

I expected her to look. The problem with

seeing people on video is that you just

really can't get a good grasp of how big

they are compared to yourself until you

meet them in real life. Now I'm not going

to say that she was really fat or

anything, but let's just say she wasn't

exactly the small petite little Japanese

girl that I expected her to be. To be

honest, when I first saw her, I felt

complete and utter disappointment. I just

didn't feel attracted to her at all, and I

tried my best to hide my disappointment.

And, you know, I tried to make small talk,

and I laughed here and there. This

relationship was just a complete disaster,

and as you can imagine, it didn't last

very long. There were just so many things

about her that I disliked, not only her

physical appearance, but also her

personality was kind of annoying. And

there were a few times when I even made

her cry over very, very small and trivial

things. Example number 1 would be at

pedestrian crossings. She would just stand

there waiting for the light to go green,

even if there were no cars to be seen

anywhere. I'm a pretty impatient person,

and I just don't like standing around

waiting for the light to go green when

there's no cars around, so I would just

cross the road even if the light's red.

And instead of following me, she would

just stand there at the other side of the

road waiting, and I would have to stand on

the other side waiting for her to cross

over. And then she would scold me about

it. She would say, This is Japan. You have

to follow all of the rules. When it's red,

you're not allowed to cross. Yeah, well,

you can follow my middle finger. I can't

stand people who follow every single rule

even though it doesn't really matter if

you follow it or not. Rules are meant to

be broken, and my philosophy in life is to

try my best to break every rule without

being caught. The second reason why I

didn't like her was when we went to

restaurants, she would complain if I

didn't finish all of my food. She would

start moaning, saying, how come I've

finished all my food and you can't finish

yours? You're making me feel fat. It's not

my fault I'm a small eater and I don't eat

very much, so I had to force myself to eat

everything on the table and make myself

feel sick, otherwise she'll start crying

about it again. And then this other time I

made her cry was because, well, we planned

this trip to go to Disneyland in Tokyo. I

say we, I didn't really plan anything.

She did all of the planning. She booked

the hotels, booked the flights. She even

had this little folder with colored

organized tabs to keep everything in

order. And we went to Disneyland for

Valentine's. It was February, and it was

okay, I guess. You know me, I'm not really

into Disney. We went to DisneySea and

Disneyland, and after it was over and we

were back on the plane to fly back from

Tokyo to Osaka, she started crying in the

airplane. She just burst out in tears. It

was so embarrassing. Everyone was looking

at us. She was crying pretty loudly, and I

was trying to get her to stop. I asked

her, why are you crying? What's wrong?

She said, I put so much effort into

planning this trip and booking everything,

and Daniel, you didn't do anything, and

you didn't even have a good time. You were

just grumpy, and you weren't really

interested in Disneyland. Well, I was a

20-year-old grown man. Obviously, I'm not

going to be interested in Disneyland. I'm

not a 10-year-old kid anymore. I don't

understand what she was expecting. Did she

think I was going to start running around

and wetting my pants with excitement at

the sight of Mickey Mouse and Goofy

dancing around in a parade? Is it really

surprising that a grown man is not going

to be very interested in Disneyland? I was

also kind of disappointed because I didn't

get to see her much. I know this sounds

kind of stupid now, but when I was in

England saving up my money and talking to

her over the internet, I genuinely thought

that when we met, we would be together all

the time, or we would be meeting up every

day. But she was really busy with

university, and she was also applying for

jobs, and I barely got to see her. I got

to see her about once a week. And it was

my first time in Japan, and I was so

anxious. I didn't know anyone. I was in

this guesthouse. I couldn't even make

friends at the guesthouse until about 4 or

5 weeks later, and I just felt so alone.

I felt like she abandoned me, like she was

so busy that she didn't have any time for

me, and I was all alone in this alien

country that I've never been to before.

It was my first time away from my family.

I was so anxious, it got to the point

where I was actually wetting my bed during

the night. Our personalities didn't go

well together either. She was like the

complete opposite to me. I used to be very

immature, very playful, very childish,

and she was just, you know, very mature

and very grown-up and very boring. I used

to do silly little pranks on her. For

example, if she was waiting at the train

station for me, I would try and sneak up

on her and surprise her, and then she

would get really embarrassed and she would

tell me to stop doing it. And there's also

this other time when we went to Kyoto

together And we went to that bamboo

forest, and we were walking through the

bamboo forest, and I saw this big stick on

the ground on the footpath, and I thought

it would be funny if I picked it up and

threw it into the forest. So I did that,

and then she got really embarrassed and

angry and started apologizing to everyone

around us. She was just really not playful

in any way. She was really serious,

really grown-up, and I felt like I was a

child and she was my mother. I was only

trying to make her laugh by doing silly

things. It's not like I would do those

things if I was by myself. So I just felt

like I couldn't have any fun with her. I

had to also be really serious and be

really grown up and mature. Otherwise,

she wouldn't like me. And I hated it. I

don't like being mature or being grown up.

That's just not who I am. I like to mess

around, play around, run about, pick up

sticks and throw them around. I felt kind

of sad that she didn't like my personality

or who I was, and she wanted me to change.

And then one day this Korean lady moved

into the guesthouse, and she was about 15

years older than me, but she was really

playful and fun to be with, and she had a

much better body than my girlfriend had.

We clicked straight away, and after about

a week we became a couple, and I started

cheating on my girlfriend. I didn't really

feel bad about it because I was so

miserable and unhappy with my girlfriend,

and I didn't have the courage to tell her

about it. And I didn't have the courage to

break up with her. We started seeing each

other less and less, and I didn't even

care because I was having so much fun with

the Korean lady. We were spending time

together, having fun together, eating

together, traveling around Japan together.

It was great. And then one day, my

girlfriend just stopped replying to my

messages. I tried really hard to contact

her. I messaged her on Skype, on Facebook.

I phoned her number several times. But she

didn't reply. She didn't answer the phone.

In one swift move, she completely ghosted

me out of the blue. I never spoke to her

again, and I didn't really care. A few

weeks later, the Korean lady said she

found my ex-girlfriend's Facebook, and she

said she saw a photo on my ex-girlfriend's

Facebook. There was a picture of her and

this white guy together. It turns out she

also found a new guy, and we were cheating

on each other at the same time. I was

never quite sure if the Korean lady was

just making this up to make me feel

better, but I guess that's just what

happens when couples aren't happy with

each other. They'll just stay together

until they find someone better, and then

they'll ghost each other. Now, even though

that sounds like a pretty depressing tale,

and it sounds like that relationship was a

complete waste of time, in the end, it

turns out that it wasn't, because without

that failed relationship, I would have

never met the Korean lady, And I had many

years of fun with the Korean lady thanks

to that failed relationship with my

ex-girlfriend. Well, it's been 10 years

since that happened, and you might be

wondering what is the ex-girlfriend up to

nowadays? And I decided to find out. I

made a secret Facebook and she accepted my

friend's request. Well, it turns out she

got a job as an air cabin hostess and she

flies around the world. As for her

relationship status, I would take a guess

that she's single because I also found her

dating profile on Japan Cupid and it said

last active a few days ago. Sometimes when

I'm lying in bed at night, I wonder if she

remembers me and the relationship we had

together and the memories we forged

between us. I know it may not have been

the best relationship and she probably

just wants to forget about it, but I can't

help but wonder in the last 10 years Did

she ever think about me? Even once? For

even a second? I find it hard to believe

that you can just completely forget about

something like that. I mean, come on, it

was a relationship between 2 people. How

can you just forget? Well, that is the

great thing about history. No matter how

hard you wish that something never

happened, you can never go back and erase

it. What's done is done. And it's been 10
