My thoughts on YouTube Removing the dislike button [HZRNVivv_ic]

So, some of you may have realised already

that YouTube has finally decided to get

rid of the stupid dislike button,

something I've been advocating for, for

several years now. They finally got rid of

that damn thing, and I just want to thank

YouTube so much for finally getting rid of

the stupid dislike button. Basically, if

you don't know about what's going on,

YouTube has not really removed the dislike

button entirely. It's still there. You can

still click on the dislike button, but the

main difference is you can't see how many

dislikes there are anymore. Only I can see

that. And I think that's a good step in

the right direction because I've said this

loads of times before, there's so many

things on YouTube that damages the mental

health of us content creators. Maybe it's

too late for me now because my enjoyment

of making YouTube videos has already kind

of been sucked dry a while ago. Mainly

because of the huge amount of dislikes I

get on every single one of my videos and

all my livestreams. I get hundreds of

dislikes on everything I make, even though

it's been like 2 years since I've even

done anything that's considered to be bad.

The things I'm hated for took place years

ago, but even to this day, I get hundreds

and hundreds of losers and sad people

obsessively clicking on the dislike button

every time I make a post. And yeah, it has

kind of ruined the content creation

process for me. It's ruined YouTube for me

in a way. I kind of wish YouTube

implemented this earlier, but I guess late

is better than never. Kind of weird to

think about it because if you look at

other platforms like Twitch, Netflix,

Amazon Prime Video, or any other kind of

video streaming service, they don't have

these stupid things like like button,

dislike button. Even Instagram has no

dislike button. There's no dislike button

on Twitter. Why does YouTube feel the need

that they had to have a dislike button for

such a long time? All it does is encourage

hate mob mentality and toxic behavior and

encourages toxic people to just kind of

like jump on someone who's not very

popular or not very well liked and just

bomb them with dislikes. And then what

happens is other people who don't really

know why there's so many dislikes or who

are new to the channel, they see the

video, they click on the video they see

the huge amount of dislikes and the

perception and opinion of the person

they're watching or the content they're

watching is just created based off on all

of these dislikes. It's just really

stupid. People have the opinions formed

for them by a dislike button and a dislike

to like ratio, which is so dumb. It got to

the point where people would be new to the

channel, they click on my new videos not

really knowing who I am, and And just

because they saw about— just because they

saw how many dislikes I got, they just

automatically started also disliking me

just because everyone else seemingly

disliked me. And it's just really

frustrating because, yeah, even though I

might have done some bad things in the

past to deserve the amount of hate I got,

but it's been 2 years and I think I've

made improvements. I haven't repeated the

same mistakes that I've made in the past.

I haven't cheated in like 2 years. And

still people don't, don't want to let it

go. They don't want to let the hate go.

They just want to hate me because they

enjoy hating me, even though I've, I've

tried to make efforts to change and

improve. Because of, because of a few

mistakes you make in the past, people

don't let you move on. I've moved on from

it, but it seems like the hundreds of

people still pressing the dislike button

are like stuck in the past back when that

happened. It's just really annoying

because I feel like I haven't really done

anything wrong recently, and still I'm

getting punished by having like 50%, 60%

dislikes. There's also a load of people

who are complaining that it's a bad idea

and YouTube are now censoring people's

opinions because they're hiding the

dislike number. And the, the people

who are complaining about the removal of

the dislike button are people like

PewDiePie, Marques Brownlee, Anime Man,

you know, people who are insanely popular

and loved by 99% of everyone.

So they don't know what it feels like to,

to be unfairly dislike bombed because

they're so likable and so popular. Yeah,

it must be amazing for them to just like

turn on the camera. You don't have to put

on any kind of act or any kind of show.

You just be your true self and everyone

loves you just for that, and you barely

get any dislikes. Sure, it must be great,

but not all of us are blessed with being

super likable and super popular. Some

people like me and others have had to

suffer for years and years being harassed

and bullied by masses of people who

are too dumb, too annoying, too stupid and

ignorant to understand that, yeah, we made

mistakes, we tried to learn from it, but

you're still punishing us because of it.

That's just really stupid. In the real

world, people make mistakes and then they

apologize for it and they try to make

changes, and then everyone just moves on,

they accept it. But on the internet, it's

like people don't let go. You make one

mistake and they just hold it to you

forever. And they won't— they refuse to

let you change or even acknowledge that

you might have changed or improved a

little bit. They just keep holding it

against you forever. If you're hated on

the internet, the people who hate you kind

of hold a grudge against you forever, and

it's just so irritating. That's why I

actually prefer Twitch as a platform,

because they didn't have a dislike button.

And I kept thinking, huh, that's funny,

they don't have a dislike button. Why does

YouTube have one? There's no reason to

have a dislike button. If people need to

look at a dislike-to-like ratio to be able

to tell if a video is good or not, then

they shouldn't be on the internet in the

first place. They should actually have the

patience to watch the video and form their

own opinion. But in this day and age,

people seem to be incapable of forming

their own opinions, and they just go ahead

with whatever is the popular opinion,

because if they have an unpopular opinion,

then they get hated like I do. But yeah,

I'm really glad that YouTube is finally

acknowledging that us content creators are

very vulnerable to, to being like, um,

jumped on by these hate mobs, and it's

very detrimental to our mental health.

And if YouTube wants us content creators

to carry on making content and not feel

like we're the scum of the earth just

because we made a few mistakes in the

past, then yeah, removing stuff like the

dislike button is a great step in the

right direction. I've— I feel like there's

a few other things they could get rid of

on the platform to to make it a more

welcoming and friendly place for us

content creators. The auto-moderation in

the comment section has become very

strict, which I am quite happy about.

People were accusing me of this, of

deleting people's comments, when really

it's because they were leaving such vile,

horrid comments. The automatic YouTube

moderation system was removing the

comments automatically. It wasn't me.

Honestly, I think you just get rid of the

comment section as well. I, I would

personally love to just disable the

comment section and disable all the likes

and dislikes, but it affects the

engagement of the video. You know,

pressing on the dislike button and the

like button and commenting helps the video

get pushed further to more people so much.

I probably lost a lot of viewership just

because I started moderating my comment

section very heavily recently in the

beginning of this year, which was

something I was very against doing because

I was always kind of for free speech. I

wanted people to be able to leave their

opinions. I didn't want to delete or ban

people, but it just got to a point where

it was so toxic in my comment section, I

had to ban these people because they were

so annoying. I think YouTube needs to get

rid of this whole, oh, boosting the video

in the algorithm because of engagement.

You get all these annoying content

creators like Graham Stephan, all these

stock people going smash the like button

and hit subscribe and press the

notification bell. I never did any of

that. Maybe that's why my channel

suffered. It's just kind of funny YouTube

as a platform has all of these community

features that no other platform has

really. Look at TV. When you watch a TV

program, there's no dislike button or like

button. There's no comment section. If you

don't like a channel on TV, you just

change the channel. You don't just sit

there watching it going, oh, this channel

sucks so much, I hate it, but I'm going to

carry on watching it because I've got no

life. But what happens on YouTube is

people find a channel they really hate,

and instead of just changing the channel

and not watching it again, they carry on

watching it just so they can press the

dislike button and write in the stupid

comment section some horrid, toxic,

hate-filled comment. Look at Netflix. You

go onto Netflix, you watch a TV series,

there's no dislike button, there's no

comments full of stupid people complaining

about why this actor sucks and why this

sucks and why I hate you. It's like

YouTube is the only platform, the only

video streaming platform that encourages

this kind of toxic hate mob mentality

behavior, and it needs to be stopped,

to be honest. It needs to be just put an

end to it. People need to grow up.
