ROG ALLY Price cuts make it BETTER than the Steam Deck OLED!

Hello, welcome back to a new video. So

I've been using my ROG Ally for several

weeks now, over a month now, almost 2

months, and I have some great news if

you're thinking about getting an ROG Ally.

The price point on the ROG Ally Z1

Extreme, which is the more powerful

version of the ROG Ally, which is superior

in every single way compared to the base

model, is now cut down to about $600

thanks to Black Friday sales. And that's

actually cheaper than the base model of

the Steam Deck OLED. The Steam Deck OLED,

the 512GB version, is about $606

right now. If you do the currency

conversion from pounds into US dollars,

it came to about $606. So it's $6 more

expensive than the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme.

And you might be thinking, if you've got

$600 to spare, should you buy the Z1

Extreme ROG Ally, or should you buy the

Steam Deck OLED? And I think that's a very

easy answer to question. I would

definitely say get the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme

over the Steam Deck OLED. It's an easy

choice. The performance and the

capabilities of the GPU and the CPU and

integrated graphics in the Zeal Next

Extreme just completely blow anything the

Steam Deck OLED has on offer. Just cannot

see why you would choose the Steam Deck

OLED over the ROG Ally when they're

basically the same price point. So the ROG

Ally, number one, it's way more portable,

it's got a way more compact design, it is

way lighter as well, it's got a much

smaller footprint, and the screen size is

around the same as the Steam Deck OLED.

And I think the screen is pretty good

despite it not being an OLED, and the

performance you can get out of this just

completely destroys the Steam Deck in

every single way. You look at the

benchmarks for the Z1 Extreme chip versus

the chip that's in the Steam Deck OLED,

it's just so much better. It's faster,

it's more powerful, it's got more cores,

it's just better at playing games. It's

got better nanometer technology, so the

semiconductor used in this thing, it's

actually a 4-nanometer semiconductor,

which is way thinner and smaller than the

5-nanometer semiconductor that's in the

Steam Deck OLED. So in terms of nanometer

semiconductor technology, this is ahead,

and it's the more advanced generation of

chips coming out of Taiwan from Taiwan

Semiconductor, which is where this chip's

made. And I just think if you've got $600,

the only reason the Steam Deck OLED would

be better is if you really want an OLED

screen. Apart from that, the Steam Deck

OLED doesn't really offer anything better.

It has slightly better battery

performance, and that's only because it's

a much weaker system. Like, the Switch

OLED and the Switch has better battery

performance, and that's because it's a

much weaker and lower-powered device

compared to this. This thing is an

absolute beast, it's an absolute machine

gaming powerhouse, so obviously it's going

to use more battery. You can get the base

model of the ROG Ally for only about $400

or $500, I think, which is absolutely

insane. But I wouldn't recommend getting

the base model because just for an extra

$100 or so, you can go up to the Z1

Extreme, which has— I think it has 2 more

cores, and it's just way more better and

powerful at gaming than the base model.

But if you only have about $400. I mean,

that just kind of destroys the Switch

because the Switch is like $300. For an

extra $100, you can get the base model of

the ROG Ally, which is way better as a

portable gaming device. So the ROG Ally

does have some flaws like the overheating

SD card slot, but apart from that, it's

pretty much the perfect ideal portable

device. And modders have been doing some

pretty amazing things with it, such as you

can unscrew the back and then replace the

base model SSD card, which is in there for

like 512GB. You can upgrade that to a 1TB

or 2TB card. And all you have to do is

unscrew the back panel and then unscrew

the one screw that holds in the SSD in

place, and then take that out and put in

the new one. And then you've got like 1TB,

2TB expansion. And people have also been

upgrading the RAM by unsoldering the RAM

that's soldered onto the circuit board and

then soldering onto the motherboard a new

RAM up to like 32GB of RAM. I saw someone

put 32GB of RAM on this thing just by

unsoldering and resoldering, but Obviously

you need to know how to solder and have

the tools to be able to do that, but it is

possible. People have been just making

this into a beast of a machine and it's

really impressive. Recently it's had some

really good upgrades and updates. So for

example, it now has gyroscopic control,

so FPS games are better to control and

have better accuracy for aiming if you use

the gyroscopic controls. Also, Armoury

Crate has some updates added to it, and

there's also an option to turn off CPU

boost when using turbo modes, which will

extend the battery life even more. So

that's really good news. That they're

doing more upgrades and updates. And so

far I've been really happy with the ROG

Ally as a system. I've been so happy with

it to the point that I ditched my

expensive, big, bulky 17-inch gaming

laptop with an RTX 3060 and 17-inch

pro gaming display with 16GB of RAM,

Intel i7. I sold that on Facebook

Marketplace for about $500 and I've never

been happier. The ROG Ally can actually

perform as a main desktop computer and it

does everything I need it to do like video

editing, live streaming, all my work

stuff, web browsing, chatting to people on

Discord, and obviously gaming. So it does

everything my laptop used to do. I can now

turn it into a portable gaming device or

just use it as a fully fledged desktop

experience for my computing needs. So with

Christmas coming up soon, there's a lot of

competition heating up in this space. A

lot of people wondering what kind of

handheld gaming device they should get.

There's quite a lot of options right now.

There's the Lenovo Legion Go, which is one

of the latest. There's the Steam Deck

OLED, the ROG Ally, Switch OLED if you're

still wanting to play Switch games for

some reason. And there's also other

options like the GDP Win Max and the TDP

P101, which is quite a big bulky device.

But I still believe firmly the ROG Ally is

probably the superior Windows handheld

gaming device. If I lost it and I had to

buy a new one, I'd probably just buy the

same one again, the Z1 Extreme, because

like I said earlier, it, it doesn't have

like the really big footprint of the

Legion Go. Legion Go is a bit too big for

me, and I've heard some negative things

about the Legion Go, like Doesn't have

VRR. The speakers are kind of rubbish on

the Legion Go. Have you heard the speakers

on the ROG Ally? They're really good.

They're actually better than what my

laptop had, so I really have a good sound

experience now thanks to the ROG speakers.

And I wouldn't buy the Switch OLED. I had

that before and I barely touched it

because the games are rubbish on it, and

you can't really do anything else on the

Switch OLED apart from game. You can watch

YouTube on it, but good luck trying to do

anything that's kind of work-related or

productivity-related So I think in my

personal opinion, it's kind of a

no-brainer right now which one to get.

Obviously, $600 of the ROG Ally

Z1 Extreme versus $600 for the Steam Deck

OLED— price isn't really a difference now.

There's not really like this factor of

price to consider when factoring in which

device to get. Steam Deck was a more

interesting or appealing looking choice

before, mainly because it was so much

cheaper than the ROG Ally. People used to

think, wow, the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is

expensive. It's like $300, nearly double

the price of the Steam Deck. But not

anymore. The Steam Deck OLED is also kind

of more expensive than the base model of

the Steam Deck, coming in at $600. So

there isn't really that massive price

difference gap now. And because there

isn't that price difference gap,

comparing the 2 devices is kind of easier.

So my recommendation would be definitely

go for the Z1 Extreme if you're looking

for a very powerful handheld Windows

11-based gaming device.
