Why is it wrong to monetize my family’s suffering

Hello and welcome. Today I want to make a

quick video to ask and answer one very

important— well, not so important

question. Why is it wrong to make

money off of my family's suffering? Now

you might be thinking this is a weird

question. It's not that weird because a

lot of people have been moaning about me

making videos getting donations, putting

ads on videos when I'm talking about my

dad's situation. And I just, just don't

really understand why people have such a

big problem with it. Not everyone has a

problem with it, but there are a lot of

people who do. Okay, so one of the major

complaints is that I'm milking my dad's

situation. I don't really think that's

true. I've made a couple videos about

what's going on, and that's just because

That's what I do on my channel. I make

videos on— about what's going on in my

life, and at the moment, this is what's

going on in my life. I probably won't make

any more videos about him unless something

major happens. I'll probably make one more

when he regains consciousness. Uh, I think

that'll be— be it. That'll be the end of

it when he gets— uh, when he wakes up

again. I know a lot of people generally

don't like it when YouTubers or people on

YouTube make videos about Um,

people who have passed away, and then they

put ads onto the video. I know this, but I

don't quite understand why people have

such a big problem with it. When you think

about it, in the real world, there are so

many businesses and there's so many other

things, um,

that make money, that profit off of

suffering, people suffering. People

getting ill, people losing their lives.

Here's some examples. Number 1,

funeral companies. They make money by

selling funerals to families who are

grieving and they've lost loved ones.

They need a funeral. Obviously, they,

they need to pay a company to provide the

funeral service. Does anyone go, oh, look

at that funeral service company. They're

making money off of funerals. They're

making money off of people who have passed

away. They're making money off of grieving

families. Oh, look at Jim Bob who owns a

funeral company. What a scumbag, making

all of that money off of sad people and

people who passed away. No one thinks like

that, do they? And there's also coffin

companies, companies that make coffins for

people who need coffins. They're making

profit off of selling coffins. They're not

doing it just for fun. They don't have—

they probably don't have a deep passion

for making coffins, and if they weren't

making money from selling coffins, then

they would do something else. You might be

thinking, well, they provide a service

that, that's very well needed because,

you know, everyone's going to need

funerals unless we find a way to stop

people from, from dying. Then we're always

going to need funerals and coffins. But at

the end of the day, they're still just

doing it to make money. They're still

trying to make a profit. And they're

profiting off of people who, who are

suffering, people who are grieving,

people who have passed away. Okay, on to

my next example. News networks. If there's

a tragic event, you know, a train crash or

a plane crash and hundreds of people lose

their lives, guess what? It's going to be

on the news the next day or as soon as it

happens. When you watch the news, before

the news starts and after the news

finishes, there's adverts. And advertisers

pay money to place their adverts before

and after the news or during the news.

News networks and newspapers, they're

profiting, making money from, from writing

and from broadcasting these tragic events.

Does anyone complain about the news making

money or profiting off of people suffering

and people losing their lives? No.

Another example is pharmaceutical

companies that sell medicine. They, they

sell medicine to make a profit. You don't

go into a pharmacy and just pick up cheap

medicine or free medicine. You have to pay

for it, and usually it's pretty

overpriced. The medicine costs a lot more

to buy than it actually costs to produce.

Does anyone complain about Boots selling

cough medicine and trying to make a profit

from people who are ill and sick? No,

they just go into Boots and buy some cough

medicine, don't they? No one goes, oh,

look at that big corporation trying to

make money off of sick people, how

disgusting. So you might be thinking,

well, the news, they provide, they provide

information, and pharmaceutical companies,

they provide medicine which people need.

They provide a service, so it's okay for

them to make money if they're providing a

useful service. Oh yeah, well, that's not,

that's not the only example I have of

people making money off of, off of tragic

event— events and people suffering,

losing their lives. The film industry,

they do it as well. They make movies about

famous events, famous people who have

passed away. For example, I watched

Bohemian Rhapsody, which is about the

famous singer Freddie Mercury, who, who

lost his life to AIDS and HIV. They made a

movie about it, and do you know why they

made a movie about it? To make money, to

profit. To, um, to sell tickets.

Does anyone go, oh, look at whatever

company made that movie, look at them

trying to profit off of someone who lost

their life from HIV? No, they go, oh,

that was a great movie, uh, that guy

really looked like Freddie Mercury.

Here's another example: the Titanic.

Who's seen the Titanic? 1,500 people

drowned in the, um, Atlantic Ocean.

And then they made a movie about it to

make money, and they made millions and

millions of, uh, of money from that movie.

It was a pretty successful movie. No one,

no one goes, oh, look at them profiting

off of all of those sad poor people who

drowned. No, they go, oh, look at Leonardo

DiCaprio, he's so handsome, I wish he

would draw me naked too. I've also— I also

bet there's loads of singers who have

written songs about loved ones who passed

away and they miss them. They wanted to

make a song in their memory. No one goes,

oh, look at Elton John, he made a song

about some person who passed away that he

probably loved and misses a lot. Oh, what

a scumbag, he's trying to profit off of

that person's suffering. I guess what I'm

trying to say— what I'm trying to say is

people are hypocrites because there's all

this stuff like movies, funerals,

coffins, all these businesses TV networks

that do profit and make a lot of money

from tragic events, suffering, people

losing their lives. And then as soon as a

YouTuber makes a little video about

someone who passed away, they put a couple

of ads on it, everyone starts wetting

their panties and getting all upset about

it. All I did was make a couple videos

talking about my dad's situation because

it's something that's important to me,

put a couple of ads on it, made a bit of

money, didn't make a huge amount, Just

made a couple hundred bucks. Not— it's not

like I'm getting rich off of this. And

then I get all these people in the comment

section going, oh, Daniel's so disgusting,

he's profiting, taking advantage of his

dad's suffering, using his dying dad

for views. Oh, how disgusting. And then I

bet they switch on the TV in the evening,

watch the news about some kind of mass—

mass— incident where people— a lot of

people died, or, or train crash, and then

they watch the adverts. Do they complain

about BBC News or CNN putting ads on the

news? No, I bet they don't say a word

then. But when it's a YouTuber putting a

few ads on his video, then, then,

scumbag! Disgusting person! Bet you

anything if I started a coffin company and

it became really successful and I employed

2 people, people would go, oh, that's

great, Daniel. That's really cool. You

started up a business all by yourself and

you're making good money and you're

providing a useful service, no one's going

to go, oh, look at Daniel the scumbag

making money off of coffins,

taking advantage of grieving families who

need a coffin for their loved one. What a

scumbag. No one would say that. They would

pat me on the back and think I did a great

job for building my own business. But when

it comes to YouTube, put a couple of ads

on a video talking about about my dad

being in hospital, and then all these

idiots start commenting. I just don't

understand why, why people have no

problems with all these other examples

that I just gave, but when it comes to

YouTube, they get all upset and they get

on the moral high ground, moral high

horse, and start, start whinging about

people, about YouTubers putting some ads

on a video. It's just, it's just kind of

stupid, I think. And the funny thing is,

I don't even understand why they're upset

about it. How does me making $50 off of

a video affect them in any way? It doesn't

affect them in any way. It doesn't affect

my dad. If I was doing it in a

disrespectful way and mocking him and

making money off it, then yeah, I, I would

agree that that's a scummy thing to do.

But I didn't. I think I did it in a pretty

respectful way. And it's my dad,

and I think— I'm pretty sure he would be

okay with it. And if he knew that he could

help me financially, help me make money

without doing anything that he's not

already doing already, then he would be

perfectly okay with it. I tried to imagine

myself in his situation. What if I had a

son and I was in a coma in hospital? And

my son wants to talk about it and makes

money from talking about it, I wouldn't

have any problems with it. I would think

it's absolutely fine. Why would I be upset

about that? I would be happy that I'm in

some way helping my son to, um,

to make money and support himself. I'd be

happy about it. I wouldn't be upset about

it. So if I'm not upset about it,

Then why is everyone else upset about it

when it's not even affecting them? It's

not even their dad. Obviously, if someone

I hated made a video about me in hospital

and he was mocking me and making money

from it, then I'd be pissed off about it.

But that's— I think that's a different

story. Anyway, that's all I had to say

about it. I think I made some pretty good

points. I had some pretty strong examples.

I've been thinking about this for several

days. And I think

what I said made, made sense. Makes sense

to me. And I guess it'll be kind of

interesting to see what everyone else

thinks about the matter, but I

probably won't change my mind about it

even if everyone tells me I'm wrong,

because I don't think I'm wrong,

otherwise I wouldn't have said what I just
