i collapsed in a Japanese supermarket [mvzwdIDEYLM]

Hey, look, it's the same— it's the same

brand of antibiotics I took 4 years ago

when I got chlamydia. So I'm supposed to

take 2 of these and then 2 of these and

then 1 of these. I don't think it's a good

idea to take antibiotics when you have a

flu or a really bad cold. Maybe I

shouldn't take these.

I don't know if I have a really bad cold

or some kind of mild flu. It started on

Saturday. I had this really bad cough,

and then the next day I had this headache

and a fever. So I took those cold tablets,

and then the headache went away, but I

still had this fever, and I still had the

coughing. I had such a bad headache

yesterday. It was the worst headache I've

ever had, and even if I moved a tiny

bit, it would make it 10 times worse. It

was so bad I had to take medicine.

Usually I don't take medicine when I get a

cold because it's never that bad, but

yesterday I had to because I felt like I

was going to be sick. I thought I was

actually going to vomit. I've taken about

4 of these now and, um, the headache's

completely gone. I feel, I feel pretty

good apart from the coughing. My

girlfriend asked me what I wanted to have

for dinner and I said chicken soup because

that's usually what we have when we get a

cold back home. You know, you have some

chicken soup and some tea. So I asked her

if she could get me some chicken soup and

some green tea, and then she came back.

She came back with a load of raw

vegetables and some raw chicken, and I was

thinking to myself, oh no, I didn't mean

that I wanted you to make chicken soup. I

just wanted some instant chicken soup or

like a can of cream of chicken soup. She

didn't even put any potatoes or tomatoes

into the soup, which would have been nice.

It would have thickened it up and given it

some kind of consistency. Instead, it was

just a bunch of boiled vegetables and

chicken floating in salty water. I'm not

saying it was a bad soup. It tasted

perfectly okay. It's just it wasn't what I

was expecting. When I say that I want

soup, I mean like Instant soup,

a thick creamy soup that tastes like

chicken but doesn't actually have chunks

of chicken in it. I asked her to get me

green tea, and I thought she would bring

home something like tea bags or the powder

version of green tea where you can just

add boiling hot water into it to make it,

but she brought this home. Cold green

tea. I didn't want to drink cold green

tea. I wanted nice— I wanted to make a

nice cup of hot green tea so I could warm

my freezing hands up, and she brought— she

brought this home. Cold tea. What am I

supposed to do with cold tea? She said put

it in the microwave, and I did.

I don't wanna sound like a whiny brat,

but I just wanted some creamy cream of

chicken soup with a nice warm cup of green

tea. I guess it was kind of my fault for

not giving her detailed instructions on

the kind of chicken soup that I wanted to

have. It's just that I didn't think that

her idea of chicken soup and my idea of

chicken soup would be so different. It's

my girlfriend's birthday in a few days,

and I need to find a present for her. I'm

not quite sure what to get her though.

Last time I bought her a present, I got

her a candle, and she didn't even use it.

Some man just gave me this piece of paper.

Hmm. This looks kind of creepy.

I know this is a supermarket, but maybe I

can find something nice for her here. It

would be good if I could get something she

can actually use. Or maybe I should just

get her some chocolates like these. These

look quite nice.

Look,

this is what I wanted when I asked her for

green tea. Tea bags? She said they don't

sell tea bags. Um, then what's all this?

Tea bags. They even have the green tea

powder stuff as well.

I'll get a box of these, and these look

quite cute. Strawberry chocolate. I think

I'll get her these. I'm starting to feel

sick again. Ugh. You won't believe what

just happened to me. You know I was saying

that I'm starting to feel sick again?

Well, I nearly blacked out in the

supermarket. I was filming stuff and then

all of a sudden I couldn't see anything.

My whole— all of my vision just completely

went. Everything went black and I was just

standing there trying to figure out what

to do. And then I grabbed onto the shelf

and I was just standing there holding onto

the shelf. Everything was still black,

and then I felt like I was gonna fall

over, so I sat down on the floor, and I

was just— I was sitting there squatting on

the floor of the supermarket waiting for

my vision to come back. And then a member

of staff saw me. She asked me if I was

okay, and I couldn't even hear properly.

My ears were ringing, and I just— I put my

hand up like this, and I mumbled

something. I couldn't see anything. My

ears were ringing. It was so scary. And

then 2 members of staff came rushing over

with the security guard, and there was

this other Japanese lady who I think she

was a customer who was trying to help me.

And they asked me what was wrong, and my

head wasn't working properly because I

was— because I was blind. I couldn't see

anything. Everything was still black. And

I tried explaining to them in Japanese

that I had some kind of fever or some kind

of cold. They brought over a chair and

they sat me down. They gave me this towel

because when I took my hat off, my entire

forehead was just drenched in sweat.

After I sat down for about 5 minutes, I

started to regain my vision. It was really

strange. It's like those old TVs when,

when they get a bad picture, it goes all

fuzzy with black and white spots. It was

just like that. And after about 5 minutes

or something, or something, My vision

started to come back and they

walked me over to this other area where

there was a bench. They started taking

details from me. They asked me my name.

They asked me what time and how many times

I took the medicine. They asked me if I

lived nearby. They asked me who I lived

with. I said I live with my girlfriend.

They asked me if they could call my

girlfriend. I said that's okay because

she's at work right now. And they even

gave me this bottle of water. They asked

me if I wanted to go to the hospital.

They asked if I wanted them to phone my

girlfriend to come and pick me up. The

security guard, he said that my entire

face was just completely white. They were,

they were so helpful and friendly. Then

after about 10 or 15 minutes sitting on

the bench, I felt, I felt perfectly fine

again, and I got up and the I

paid for my stuff. I still got my green

tea and my chocolates for my girlfriend.

I got up and I paid for that. And then the

security guard and the store manager,

they walked me all the way back to my

apartment, back here. It was so

embarrassing. I had all of these members

of staff surrounding me. I had this

security guard next to me. And everyone

was staring at me. Kids were walking past

staring. It kind of felt like they caught

me shoplifting and they were being really

nice about it. I have no idea why that

happened. Was it because of the medicine?

It was like blood wasn't being sent to my

brain properly. That was why I lost my

vision. That was why I felt dizzy. I even

felt like I was going to vomit. Nothing

like this has ever happened to me before.

It was, it was so scary. I couldn't see

anything. I lost my vision completely. I

felt perfectly okay in the morning. I

didn't have any dizziness. I didn't feel

sick. I didn't have a headache. I thought

it would be okay to just take a walk, go

shopping. I had no idea that I would go

blind and nearly collapse in a

supermarket. You see, this is why I don't

like taking medicine. I took 4 of those

tablets today, and I don't know if it has

anything to do with what happened today,

but you never know with these strong

tablets and pills. You never know if it's

going to give you some kind of strange

side effect. Anyway, it sounds like it was

a pretty bad experience, but it was an

interesting experience for me, and it

reminded me of just how nice and friendly

Japanese people are. They're so

professional, and you can tell that they

actually care about people. It's not fake.

It's not just like an act they do for

their job. I really felt like they were

worried about me, that they were concerned

about me. And then to walk me all the way

back to my apartment, it's just— it

restores your faith in humanity.

Obviously I said thanks to all of them,

but it feels like just saying thanks

wasn't enough.
