Why I regret buying the iPhone 15

Hello, welcome back to a new video. So I

recently bought the brand new iPhone 15

Pro and I've been using it for a few days

and honestly I'm kind of disappointed with

it. So this is my old phone, the iPhone 12

Mini, pretty battered and scratched up.

So thought I'd upgrade it, get myself

iPhone 15 since it's the latest Apple

smartphone. And, um, yeah, it's been kind

of lacking in luster and not really that

amazing of an upgrade. It basically feels

the same to use. There just doesn't really

seem to be much of a massive difference

between using these 2 phones even though

This one is supposed to be 3 years newer

than this one, and this one is way more

expensive, and it's also the Pro version.

So for example, looking on YouTube like

this kind of just feels the same. Opening

the app doesn't really feel any slower or

any quicker. Opening different apps like

that just basically feels very similar,

you know, like responsive response times

are very similar, and I don't really feel

like there's much difference in, in the

camera apps, for example. Yeah, there's a

few new modes like The iPhone 15 Pro has

cinematic mode, which is quite fun to use,

and it has like a macro mode. But are you

really going to take a lot of macro photos

or videos? Are you really going to make a

lot of cinematic videos? I don't really

find myself using the camera that much

because, you know, I'm not like a

filmmaker, I'm not a photographer. The

biggest differences would be with the

camera. The image quality is a bit better

than iPhone 12 mini, I guess you could

say. The zoom is much better because the

iPhone 12 mini doesn't even have a zoom,

only has a standard lens and a wide angle.

Whereas this has a 3x optical zoom, so

obviously it's better. But I never really

thought to myself, damn, my iPhone 12 mini

camera quality really sucks. These images

and videos are unusable. I never really

felt like the image quality was so bad on

iPhone 12 mini, but the iPhone 15 Pro's

camera is noticeably better.

But is that really worth upgrading to the

new iPhone 15 Pro? Well, depends if you

really care that much about images and

videos, which I don't really care too much

about. One of the other main features, a

new thing that Apple was boasting about

was the Action Button. And yep, I do have

the Action Button because it's the Pro

model. I don't know why they only put the

Action Button on the Pro model. It's kind

of silly because it's not even that great.

I've currently assigned it to open the

camera, so I just hold it. I don't like

how you have to hold it. I thought you

could just press it once like this. It's

also kind of in a weird place to be able

to press easily. It's very high up. So if

you just press it once, it won't actually

do anything. You've got to hold it down

for about a second, which is kind of

annoying because it's supposed to be like

a quick action, open or enable some

kind of functional app quickly, but you

have to hold it down. Look how long it

takes. That was about a second or nearly 2

seconds, and the whole point of it was I

was hoping I'd have my phone off like this

and then, oh, there's something

interesting to take a photo of, press the

action button, ready to go. But it's not.

You gotta hold it down There, now I'm

ready to go. About 2 seconds. So it

doesn't really feel that responsive

because you gotta hold it down, then

there's a bit of a delay. And I don't

really feel like there's much difference

between pressing that button and then just

pressing this button that's on the screen

anyway. So I don't know what else to

assign the Action Button to. You could

assign it to the flashlight, maybe. You

can assign it to the camera, silent mode,

focus mode. Flashlight, voice memo,

magnifying glass, and also assign it to

open any kind of app, which I thought

would be really useful, but I don't really

know what app to assign it to. I check my

YouTube analytics quite a lot. I guess I

could assign it to YouTube analytics and

just press that when I want to have a cry

about how dead my YouTube channel is. Or I

could assign it to YouTube, or maybe

Google search, or I don't know, Discord.

I don't really know what to assign the

action button to, so for now it's just

assigned to the camera, which I think is

the best use for the Action Button in case

there's any action. But I do think the

Action Button should have been here

because if you're using it to open the

camera, you can use it as a shutter button

to take photos, but it would have been

better if it was here then if it's

supposed to be like a camera shutter

button, shutter button, because then you

could use it like an actual camera like

that and press it like here. But it's on

the other side, look, it's on the

underneath, so you'd either have to flip

the phone around like that but then the

lens is kind of upside down. It's in a

weird place, or you have to hold it like

this. Hold on. I mean, you could take

photos like that and use your left bottom

thumb. You can use your left bottom thumb

to trigger a photo or video, but it's in a

weird place. I really think the action

button should have been here, like halfway

up the phone, so you're— well, I'm

right-handed, so I'd use my right hand,

and it'll be nice if I can just press the

action button with my right thumb, but you

have to use 2 hands like this.

Unless you're left-handed, and even if

you're left-handed, it's kind of high up.

So I have complaints about the action

button being in kind of a strange place.

USB-C charging is nice, I guess, because I

can use my, my plug-in wireless mic that

I'll show you now, but it's going to mess

up the audio. So this is my wireless mic.

It's got USB-C adapter thing. It's also

got a Lightning adapter, but I lost it.

So I can use this directly into the iPhone

15 Pro as well without having to use any

kind of adapters, and it just works. See,

but I do appreciate the change to USB-C,

but it's not really anything much to get

excited about. Oh yeah, change my cables,

big deal. It's not really fun. So what

else is there fun about the iPhone 15?

You got a Dynamic Island, which is okay,

I guess. For example, when you've got low

battery and it's below 20%, on the iPhone

12 Mini, this annoying pop-up would come

up saying you have only 20% battery, and

then you have to press close, which was

very annoying. For example, you're

watching YouTube and then that stupid

pop-up gets in the way, you've got to

press close. On this one, when you get low

battery, it will just widen this black

little round thing here and it will say

low battery 20%. It doesn't get in the way

of you doing things. It does useful things

like, for example, if you're watching

YouTube and then you minimize the YouTube

app it will show you here that sound is

playing, and then you can tap the little

Dynamic Island to then reopen it again.

So it is nice for a little bit of like,

um, kind of like multitasking assistance,

but not really true multitasking. It's

kind of annoying because on Android with

YouTube Premium, when you minimize the

YouTube app, you'd have a little pop-out

box and you can watch YouTube, but you

can't do that on iPhone. You used to be

able to do it. It used to pop up a little

screen and you could close it or move it

around, but they stopped doing it for some

reason. So all you can do now is just

press that to go back to it, or you can

hold it down and then you've got some

controls here like pause, next,

AirDrop, AirPlay, or whatever. So you can

do some nifty things with that. Also,

things like navigation will show up on the

Dynamic Island. So I kind of like it, but

it's not super exciting. The cameras are

nice, but they didn't exactly blow me

away. Apple keeps saying they've got 7

lenses, which I don't really feel is true.

You've got this one lens here, which you

can keep tapping and it's got different

focal lengths, but it's really just

cropping into the sensor, like cropping in

digitally. It's not really a separate

lens. So I don't know how they can say

they've got 7 lenses. You've got 1, the

wide angle, 2, the standard one, 3,

4, 5, 6. So where's the 7th

lens? But there's not really 7 lenses.

There's just 1, the wide angle, 2, the

standard lens, which can do 1x and then 2x

and 3x. The standard lens crops in up to

to 3x, so that's 2 lenses. And then the

3rd one, the telephoto 3x optical zoom,

it's only used when you're zooming into

things that are very far away like that.

And you can tell that the lenses are

changing, look. So right now it's using

the— yeah, it's just using the standard

lens. But if I try and shoot at something

further away, then it's kind

of random though. Sometimes it uses the

cropped-in 48-megapixel camera for the 3x

zoom, and sometimes it uses the optical

telephoto zoom. So it's kind of strange.

It uses some kind of software to determine

the lighting and choose the lens for the

best situation.

But it's okay. I mean, you can take some

pretty nice video and pretty nice photos

with it, but it doesn't really blow me

away. You know what phone did blow me

away? I was in the shop the other day and

there was this phone. I forgot what it was

called, but it's got like a massive Leica

lens on the back of it. It's like a

massive big circle. Maybe you know what it

is if I describe it. It's got a massive

circle here and it's got a 1-inch sensor,

and it could really blur out the

background well without using, you know,

cheating software fakery or AI. It was

genuinely blowing out the background

really well, and the autofocus was so

quick. I don't think the autofocus on this

is slow, but it's not super snappy.

Trying to open the camera, for some reason

it's not working now. Look, holding the

action button's not even opening the

camera anymore. I don't know why. So go

into video mode, and let's say for example

we'll take a video and we want to focus on

different things. It's pretty slow. I

mean, look at this, it's kind of sluggish.

1, 2, it takes nearly 2 seconds. But with

that other camera phone I was using

explaining earlier, it would be instant.

I'd tap it and instantly focus and then

instantly focus back. But this is kind of

kind of slow. I always feel like the

iPhone 12 Mini had the same problem with

kind of sluggish autofocus focusing, but

this phone hasn't really improved that

much. I think Apple has a problem with

having a very snappy and responsive set of

lenses for the camera. So although it's a

nice upgrade and it's a decent phone, it

didn't really blow my socks away. And

after playing around with it for a few

days, I feel kind of bored with it. And

now it's just like, okay, it's my phone,

I just do what I usually do, but it's now

slightly faster faster. My screen is

slightly bigger than the iPhone 12 Mini,

which, you know, I did like the Mini, but

the smaller screen did start to get a bit

frustrating, and the battery life was just

terrible on it. So it is nice having a

slightly bigger screen that's much

brighter with 2,000 nits of brightness.

The new camera system's okay, but at the

end of the day, my reaction and my

feelings are it's just okay, and it's,

it's all right, I guess. I don't really

feel like, oh my God, this is the best

phone in the world, it's so cool, it's so

enjoyable. So I'd have to give it a 6.2

out of 10 for the iPhone 15 Pro.
