Why I HATE The Lord Of The Rings - The Rings Of Power - VERY Disappointing

Hello and welcome back to a new video. So

recently I've been watching the brand new

Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power series

on Amazon Prime, and as an avid fan of The

Lord of the Rings and also epic high

fantasy shows in general, I knew I just

had to watch this series. Unfortunately,

so far it's been pretty bland, boring,

and rather lacking in lustre. Currently

the first 2 episodes are out and they're

both 1 hour each, so I watched them back

to back and my god, it was the most

boring, longest, drawn-out 2 hours I've

ever had to sit through, and I just found

myself yawning throughout the entire

episode. It was so dull and uncinematic.

And basically this series is set a long,

long time before the original Lord of the

Rings trilogy. So do you remember

Galadriel, that blonde-haired woman elf?

She's a kid— well, she starts off as a kid

in this series and then she becomes a

woman. And there's also Elrond in it, but

he's young and not balding. And there's a

bunch of other characters that I've never

even heard before. So for example,

there's this black elf guy and he has this

story with a woman. And then there's these

Irish hobbit girls who find this man who

falls from the sky as a comet, and then

he's naked for some reason and he screams

a lot and he's weird and doesn't speak.

So basically in this series, there's a

bunch of different main characters. I'd

say the main main character would be

Galadriel and the whole elf story and what

they get up to trying to find Sauron after

he gets defeated in some kind of war. And

then he runs away and then Galadriel's

trying to hunt him down. And then there's

like the sub-main characters which involve

the black elf guy who's got something

going on with this woman, and then you got

those Irish hobbits who have this other

story going on. I just feel like there's

too many main characters. I liked it when

movies and shows just had one main

character, not like a bunch of different

main characters who all have their own

little stories going on and happening all

at the same time. Maybe if at some point

in the series they all come together,

like their storylines bring them all

together and they form a fellowship like

in the movies. But that doesn't seem to be

happening so far. It's like they've all

got their own personal storylines that all

just kind of happen at the same time, and

the camera keeps switching between these

different main characters, which I don't

really like as a storytelling mechanic.

It's kind of like in GTA 5. I really hated

it how you thought you had a main

character, but then it kept switching to

these other main characters and they will

have their own things going on. It's just

kind of flippy-floppy. I find it hard to

get invested and emotionally involved.

With a character story when the storylines

keep flipping between different

characters. And I don't really feel like

all these extra characters are really

necessary because they're all kind of

boring. I have to say, none of the

characters in this spin-off series are

interesting at all. I couldn't care less

about this black elf guy. I couldn't care

less about that woman he's with. I

couldn't care less about these Irish

hobbies— I mean hobbits. The only ones I

kind of relatively care about, I guess,

maybe Galadriel, mainly because she was

such a big character in the original Lord

of the Rings series and she's an elf, and

I guess like the elves have such an

important role to play in the world of

Lord of the Rings. And during the movies,

the original trilogy, you never really got

to see the elves when they were relevant

and strong. In the movies in the trilogy,

they were kind of just weak, like a waning

power ready to get flushed away. But it's

nice to see in this series you get to see

the elves when they're at their strongest,

when they're at the most relevance in

power, and it's interesting to see that

kind of storyline play out.

Unfortunately, I can't really say the same

for the other characters. I don't really

care who these weird hobbits are who live

in the woods. I don't really care about

this random bunch of humans. I think

they're humans. They seem like a bunch of

homeless humans who live in this horrible

rundown village. Even though the visuals

are kind of nice sometimes and the

cinematic landscapes are quite Lord of the

Rings-esque and did bring back some of the

feelings I had when I watched the original

trilogies as a kid, But for some reason,

apart from that, everything else in this

Lord of the Rings series just doesn't

really feel like Lord of the Rings at all.

It just kind of feels like some cheap,

low-budget, fan-made series, maybe made by

some university students who are into

acting and into drama, and they put it up

onto YouTube for a bit of fun. It just

doesn't really scream to me Lord of the

Rings or really high production quality

values, and there's just something about

it that I can't quite put my finger on,

but it just doesn't quite feel like Lord

of the Rings, and that's such a crying

shame. And I feel like that's such a shame

because they could have had such a great

opportunity to make a prequel series and

explain what happened before The Lord of

the Rings. The first 2 hours was extremely

bland and boring. The beginning started

off fairly interesting because it had some

cool visuals, some cool action scenes,

and it was setting the stage for quite an

interesting or what I thought would have

been an interesting series, but

unfortunately any feelings of excitement

or action kind of fizzles out after the

first 20 minutes or so. And for the most

part of the series, it's just a bunch of

boring characters that you don't even know

who they are, you don't really care who

they are, none of them are very

interesting. The acting isn't exactly the

best I've ever seen, and you're just

watching all these really boring

characters talk and give dialogue, and

they're trying to set up their storylines,

I guess. But I can't really imagine that

their storylines are going to be any

interest at all. I don't know, maybe it's

too early to judge, but I just don't

really feel any excitement or interest in

this story that they're trying to set up.

And they've had 2 hours to try and set up

the story. They've basically had 2 hours

to try and convince me as a viewer that

they've got something really exciting and

special coming up. 2 hours is almost the

same length as a movie. If you can't hook

in an avid Lord of the Rings fan in 2

hours, then I think you either don't know

what you're doing, or you've done

something massively wrong, or you just

don't really have anything there that's

worth viewing. So many of the scenes just

don't make any sense. For example, Elrond

has to go to some dwarven mine to ask for

help, but they don't let him in. But then

he does some kind of special trick, he

says something that lets them in, but he

has to do some kind of competition where

he smashes rocks and he competes with the

king or whoever's in charge there. And

they have this competition and then Elrond

loses, and then the king, who turns out to

be his old friend tries to kick him out of

the place, but then they chat and then

they make up. And then he goes— Elrond

goes to the king's house to have dinner

with his wife, and then the king's kids

come out. And we've never really seen

dwarven kids before, and for some reason

they're wearing these massive helmets.

It's like they didn't know what dwarven

kids would actually look like, so instead

of trying to figure out what they would

look like, they just covered up their

faces with a massive helmet. I don't know

what a dwarf child would look like, but if

they're gonna try and tell me that a dwarf

child just looks like a normal human

child, that would just be kind of lame. I

would imagine that a dwarven child would

look really fat and stubby like a dwarf

does. But the whole scene was just so

frustrating because Elrond obviously went

to the dwarf place, asked for the dwarves'

help to do something. I'm not entirely

sure what because I kind of lost interest

and wasn't paying attention, but the

stupid dwarf just wasn't interested in

listening to what Elrond had to say even

though he traveled all this way. I mean,

it might be something pretty important.

Considering Elrond came all this way to

ask for help. And more frustratingly,

Elrond doesn't even try to ask what he

went there to ask for. He kept trying to

be really polite, and it was like he never

actually got around to asking for help.

And to be honest, I don't actually know

what he wanted to ask in the end because

I, like I said before, I lost interest and

wasn't paying attention anymore. So I

don't really have high hopes for this

series. I guess I'll watch it because

there's nothing else to watch right now.

But it just didn't seem very interesting,

and as a Lord of the Rings fan, I just

didn't really feel very interested in

this. Felt a bit disappointed. As it is

right now, I can't really recommend it,

and I would have to give it a 4.2 out of
