Why you shouldn't buy the Microsoft Surface Duo

Something that's kind of taken my interest

recently is the upcoming brand new

smartphone, smartphone from Microsoft

called the Microsoft Duo, or Duo depending

how you pronounce the letter D. Something

that really pisses me off about Americans,

sorry to go off on a tangent here, but

it's when they make fun of how I pronounce

YouTube. In England, let me just give you

a quick history lesson. In England, we

pronounce the combination of letters TU as

if it's a CHU. So for example, you have

tuner, tube, tuning,

YouTube. We don't say tube or tuning or

tuna. That just sounds dumb to us. So it's

kind of irritating whenever I say YouTube,

people have to spell out YouTube as in U

then C-H-U-B-E. Yeah, that's what it

sounds like when an English person

pronounces YouTube. We don't say YouTube.

Okay, now that we have that out of the

way, let me tell you about this new

smartphone coming out from Microsoft next

month, September 10th. 10th, and why it's

gonna suck. So the first annoying thing

about Microsoft is they're only releasing

this smartphone in America. That is the

United States, not the continent of

America. For some reason, they're not

releasing it worldwide. I guess they're

doing like a testing phase to see how well

it does, and if it flops, then they won't

sell it anywhere else. And if it does

well, then they'll probably sell it

somewhere else. I don't know, but it's

kind of annoying because obviously I don't

live in America, I live in Europe, and And

it'd be nice if you actually sold stuff in

Europe as well instead of just America,

because I don't really fancy the idea of

having to fly all the way over to America

to just get a stupid phone. And I don't

have any friends in America. Yes, I have

relatives, but they don't even know I

exist. So let me tell you a bit about how

come I have relatives in America. I'll try

and keep this story short. So I've got—

well, I had a grandfather, and he had a

little brother. Now, my grandfather went

off to war and fought for England against

the Germans, and he got a lot of money for

doing it, but his stupid parents made him

give the money to his little brother who

was too young to have to join the war.

And his little brother got to use my

grandfather's war money to go off and

study university in America. He got a PhD,

became a very smart man, and he moved to

America, met a wife, had kids, grandkids.

And one of his grandkids married a

Japanese woman, so I've got Japanese

relatives out there in America somewhere,

but they don't even know I exist, but I

know they exist. Stuff them. Yeah,

Chiyoko Lord, I know about your pics on

Imaging Company. Don't think I don't know

that you exist. Anyway, unfortunately, my

grandfather kind of cut ties with his

little brother, so my family on the

English side don't really have much or any

contacts with our relatives on the

American side. So yeah, I do have

relatives in America that could have sent

it to me if I asked them to receive the

parcel, but I don't really know them, and

I think it'd be kind of strange if I just

suddenly emailed, hi, Chiyoko Lord, I'm

Daniel Lord, descendant of your

grandfather's brother's something. I don't

know, it gets kind of confusing. Anyway,

the point is— the point I'm trying to make

is I don't have anyone over in America

that I trust or know to be able to

receive, accept the order, and then send

it to me. So my only other option was this

website called Big Apple Buddy or

something, but they charge like a $50 fee,

and then you also have to pay over $100 in

shipping fees. So if I really wanted it

desperately, I would have to pay an extra

$150 just to get it when it comes out in

America. Now, am I that desperate to get

this phone? I don't know. So I thought I'd

make a video about why it sucks to try and

convince myself not to want it anymore.

So first of all, I want to tell you why I

really like this phone. It looks really,

really cool. I mean, look at the design.

It's sleek, it's kind of rectangular, it

has a nice color, nice design, clean look.

Now I have the Galaxy Fold, and even

though that's a great phone and I'm using

right now to make this video, it looks

kind of ugly. I mean, it's really chunky.

It looks like you have 2 phones sellotaped

together when you close it, and when you

close it, you've got this massive gap and

And the design just doesn't look great.

Well, I thought it looked good in the

beginning, but then I saw the Microsoft

Duo and I thought, wow, that looks so much

better. The Duo's design is just really

pleasing. First of all, the screen is not

a foldable screen like the Galaxy Note— I

mean, the Galaxy Fold has a plastic screen

that folds when you fold the phone.

But the Duo is kind of different because

it's 2 glass panels and there's a hinge,

which means there's going to be a very

notable noticeable, um, hinge line

in the middle when you've got it open.

I'm not sure if I like that. They should

have made it seamless. So yeah, the phone

looks amazing. I don't really care about

the specs. Apparently some people are

saying the specs aren't that great and

it's basically the same specs as a

flagship phone from 2 years ago, but

phones from 2 years ago were still pretty

good and I'm not really too bothered as

long as the product looks good. I'm not

really that bothered if the specs are

amazing. For example, I have the Galaxy

Fold. The specs are fine, but it's

starting to look kind of old and scruffy,

and I'm losing interest in it. I want

something new, something that looks

better, something that's more interesting.

I don't really care that much if the specs

aren't amazing. Now, the price is kind of

silly when it comes to these new folding

phones. Everyone's making a folding phone

now, aren't they? Even Apple are going to

make one. The price on these new folding

phones are just kind of out of hand. So

the Surface— I mean, the Microsoft Duo is

going to cost $1,400, which is quite a lot

just for a phone which basically does the

same thing as any other phone does. You

could kind of think of the Duo as kind of

like 2 phones stuck together side by side.

Why don't you just buy 2 phones, get some

sellotape, and then sellotape them

together so they fold on top of each

other. That's basically the same thing as

the Duo. I don't really know what else it

does differently, and it looks kind of

annoying. What if you want to watch a

movie with it open? Won't there be a big

massive line in the middle? Also, the

shape of the Duo looks kind of strange.

It's, um, it's a bit wide, isn't it? It's

a bit fat for a phone. I think Microsoft

are trying to get people to understand

that it's not supposed to be like a

smartphone. You're supposed to think of it

as notebook. And when you think of it that

way, it does seem pretty interesting. You

could get like the Microsoft Pen and then,

you know, write your notes. But I don't

really do any notes writing, so I don't

really feel like a stylus would be of any

use unless you could do drawing. Then that

would be a big interest of mine since I am

a professional drawer. I do like to do

some artwork now and then. I think the

main appeal of the Duo is you have 2

screens side by side, which means you can

have 2 apps open at the same time. Now you

have to ask yourself, do you really want

to have 2 apps open at the same time?

When I'm just using my phone normally, I

very rarely use the multitasking function.

On the Galaxy Fold, you can actually

multitask and you can have 3 apps open

split screen at the same time, and then

you can also have as many other apps

popping up over the top. I think I've

opened a total of 8 apps at the same time

and it was getting kind of stupid. I never

use the multi-screen function because I

don't know, it just feels kind of messy.

I don't really feel like I need to be

using 2 apps at the same time. If I'm

writing an email, I'd rather just focus on

writing the email instead of writing an

email and having YouTube open at the side.

I don't really feel like I need to have

multiple apps open at the same time. So if

I had the Surface Duo, I can just imagine

that I would just be using one screen most

of the time, and then the second screen

would just have something open that I'm

not really paying any attention to. And

the most annoying thing about these phones

is that they cost so much money, and I

think I have one of the most expensive

phones out right now. I have the Galaxy

Fold, which cost about $2,000 when it

first came out, and I had a bit of a

problem on YouTube recently where I had to

use the blur feature because some idiot

complained about being in my video. So I

had to blur out his face, and you just

can't do that on the phone. You used to be

able to— I used to be able to do it on my

phone without any problems, but then

something changed. I don't know if Samsung

changed something or Google changed

something, but you can't use the blurring

tool on YouTube on your phone anymore,

even on desktop mode. And I'm pretty sure

you can't do it on the iPad either. So I

had to go and find some really cheap

laptop in a store, and I had to

get one of those just so I can use the

blur tool to blur out this idiot's face.

And I couldn't do that even though I've

got thousands of dollars worth of really

high-tech futuristic phones because phones

don't have flash on it anymore. You know,

flash, the little plug-in thing. I don't

know what it is exactly, but on some

websites like YouTube, for example,

Um, they still use Flash, and back in the

'90s and the 2000s, Flash was like a

massive thing. Nearly every website used

it for, I don't know, minigames and tools

that you use on the website. Most websites

have phased it out so they can be used on

smartphones, but for some reason, stupid

YouTube still uses Flash for the blurring

tool. They could have easily made a

blurring function that could be used on

smartphones, but they haven't because

they're lazy. And I had to use this cheap

rubbish laptop just to do this one thing,

which I couldn't do on any of my phones.

So I'm thinking, do I want to waste $1,400

on a really nice cool-looking phone that

folds in half, or should I just get, you

know, a nice, a nice laptop so I can do

the blurring thing? It's kind of annoying

that I have to still rely on a laptop even

though it's 2020. I wanted to be able to

break free from having to rely on on the

computer because I don't really like

computers. I prefer smartphones and

tablets. I think that's the way of the

future. But because of this one thing that

sometimes I need to do, which is blurring

out people's stupid faces, I still need a

bloody laptop or desktop computer. It's so

frustrating because I don't really want to

get a laptop and have to lug it around in

my luggage. So I'm thinking getting a new

smartphone. I mean, I already have 2. Why

do I need a 3rd one? I think getting a new

smartphone is kind of a bad idea and a

waste of money, even though it looks

really cool and nice. Maybe I should spend

the money on getting a laptop. Or maybe I

shouldn't have left my second gaming

laptop in Japan when I left my wife. I

feel so stupid because I've bought 2 MSI

gaming laptops in the last 2 years, and

how many gaming laptops do I have right

now? Zero! Because the first one she sold

when I was in England. Didn't even ask for

my permission. Didn't even say, Daniel,

do you mind if I sell your laptop? No,

she just sells it. And then the second

laptop was kind of my fault because I was

lazy and I didn't want to carry around a

heavy laptop in my backpack, and I just

kind of left it at her place voluntarily,

which I really regret now because I kind

of would like to have a laptop again,

mainly to play Rainbow Six and play other

games and maybe do streaming on because

it'll be easier to stream games on a

laptop. I guess I could just use my phone

and film the stream with my the screen of

my Switch, but it looks kind of bad. I

guess people don't really care if it looks

good or bad. Well, I don't care. And it'll

also be nice to be able to use the blur

function once in a while in case I have to
