RØDE VideoMic Me Shotgun Mic - With Samsung S6

Hello and welcome to the video. So today I

got this. I ordered it on Amazon a few

days ago. It cost £40. It's basically a

microphone for your smartphone. Now it

says here, uh,

directional microphone for Apple iPhone

and iPad, but I just tested it and it does

work on a Samsung smartphone as well, so

ignore the incorrect writing on the

packaging, it does work for other

smartphones that aren't iPhones. So it's

called a VideoMic Me.

It's a Rode microphone. Basically, you

just plug it into your phone and you get

better sounding, better sounding audio.

And this is what you get inside of it.

You get this plastic container and you get

the microphone. Looks like this. Just plug

it in to the audio jack. It's pretty nice.

And you also get this fluffy thing,

wind muff, which you can put over it.

Just goes in like this, and then

you can plug it in. So what it looks

like is— hold on.

pretty ridiculous, but the audio does

sound a lot better. And this is so good

because usually if you don't have this and

it's windy, all you're going to get is

like sounds all over the place. When you

put this on, it just cancels the wind

sound completely. Also, if you have your

mouth too close to the microphone, you can

also get those irritating windy sounds.

But with this it just cancels it all out

completely, 100%. Okay, so the

only annoying thing is it's kind of hard

to put it back out. You have to, you have

to really put it, and then even then it

doesn't come out properly. So you have to

be a bit careful. Oh, also, if you have a

phone where the microphone jack is near

the camera, then this is gonna get in the

way of the camera, isn't it? So the good

thing about my phone is the camera is up

here and this plugs in at the bottom, so

it's no problem for me. But if your phone

is the other way around, like it has the

camera here and the audio jack up here,

you might have problems. I don't know if

you could see this bit in the, in the

video, in, in the camera when you're

taking a video. You might not be able to,

I don't know. Depends how wide angle your

smartphone camera is. And you also get a

little book clip. Looks like this.

a little diagram how to put it together.

It's not that hard, you just clip it on,

you don't need a diagram. So there's all

these instructions on this piece of paper,

we don't need that. And so let's test it

out. Let's, let's do some testing,

see what it sounds like. How about I make

a video like this and then I just talk

into it? Okay,

okay, so I'm recording now using the

microphone. It's plugged in and it's just

like facing towards me, so when I speak

towards it, it should pick up my voice a

lot better because without this, the

microphone for the phone is at the bottom,

so it's facing out sideways. Okay, now

let's just take this off. Okay, now it

should be recording with the phone's

built-in microphone, which is like around

here, and I'm not really sure how much

different it's going to sound. I'm pretty

sure this one's going to sound louder

because it's facing towards my face

instead of to the side. So let's try.

Uh, okay, that should be enough.

See what it sounds like. The thing is,

you have— if you want to play audio on

your phone, you have to take this out.

pretty bad because I'm just blowing

straight into the microphone. Okay, so

let's try using the wind muff.

It looks so stupid. I would never be able

to use this in public. It just looks so

ridiculous. But if you're just like in

your house, then it's fine, I guess.

It's really difficult to think of words

sounds a lot better with the wind muff on.

You can, you can slightly hear like a wind

blowing sound. That's only because I had

my mouth right in front of it, but yeah,

it's pretty good. The audio sounds really

crisp and clear, and you don't get any of

those irritating wind blowing sounds. I

guess for the next test we should go

outside when it's windy and try it out.

Okay, so we're outside now. The problem is

it's not very windy today, so I'm not

really sure if the wind muff is going to

make much of a difference. I guess I'll

just walk around a bit and, uh, talk.

There's a bit of a breeze going on, I

guess. I guess we'll find out.

The thing I don't like about it is it's

kind of big. Like, you can't see it, but

it's like very big, and it makes holding

the phone a bit uncomfortable. It also

blocks a bit of the screen. Like, it

blocks the corner of the screen, so it's

not ideal sometimes. Okay,

I just took it off. Here it is, just in

case you don't believe me. So what do you

think? Do I sound any different? Does it

sound the same? I'm really hoping it

doesn't sound the same, otherwise I would

have just wasted my money on this.

Um, I don't really know what else

to say. I guess I need to think of

something to say, otherwise you won't be

able to tell the difference. Between

having the microphone plugged in and

having it plugged out. I guess we

could wait. Okay, we'll wait a bit to see

if, if there's any more wind, because I

really wanted to come out when it was

windy, but these past few days there

hasn't been any wind. It's been very calm

and not windy.

I think that should be long enough. So

So I've plugged it back in. Recording

using earphone mic, it says. So I guess

we'll do some final thoughts. Final

thoughts are it's really big. I'm not sure

if they could have made this a bit

smaller. The wind muff is huge. It's like

this big. Oh, the wind's blowing now.

How does it sound? Hopefully it still

sounds pretty good. I mainly bought it

because I wanted to improve the audio

quality on my videos. I think, I, I think

that when you make vlogs, video, videos

for YouTube, I think the audio is more

important than video quality. I'd rather

have good audio than have really good

video quality because the main thing about

vlogs is talking and like telling

people stuff. I know it's also about

showing people stuff, but if there's a

video and it has really bad quality audio

quality, I just can't stand it. I hate it.

It's hard to concentrate on what they're

talking about. It's hard to just listen to

what they're trying to say. So for me, I

feel like audio is more important. What I

am interested in is I want to see— I'd

be interested to know if this microphone

works on the camera like a DSLR.

The problem is I don't have a camera that

lets you plug in a microphone. All I have

is my smartphone, so I guess we may never

So yeah, if you're looking to improve the

audio on your smartphone videos, you might

want to have a look at this. It's pretty

good, good build quality. It's a bit

expensive. I mean, £44 just for a

microphone. But I guess you

get what you pay for. You pay for a

quality item, and Rode is pretty good

usually. Rode is like, like one of the

best companies for buying microphones and

audio equipment. So I don't really think

you could go wrong with this. So hope you
