Creating the ULTIMATE smartphone vlogging setup

Hello and welcome to this video about the

ultimate smartphone vlogging setup.

As you can see, I have an assortment of

items that can help turn your smartphone,

which is perfectly capable of making

videos already on its own, but with these

additional items, we can turn it into a

professional vlogging device.

So first of all, let me show you the box

for all of this stuff. This is the

box. It's called an Uhuru. If you can see

down here, the company is called Uhuru.

Multipurpose vlog microphone. And this

is what you get in the box. 4 items:

tripod, tripod mount with cold shoe, LED

lighting and a shotgun microphone.

And inside the box we have this,

this soft squishy material which protects

all the stuff inside. On the back of

the box you can see it's made in China and

there are some statistics, some details.

Specifications of the LED lights,

the microphone. Don't know if that's

interesting to you. And here's the

features list: simple plug-and-play,

rugged construction. You can use it with

DSLRs, smartphones, PCs, tablets,

pretty much anything. And it has a pro

shotgun mic.

Yeah, okay, on to the items. This is the

LED light. We can switch it on like this.

It does get very bright, and if you stare

straight into it, it does hurt. I've tried

it, and you get these little yellow spots

that stay in your sight for about half an

hour. So it's a very bright light, as you

can see if you shine it on my hand. It

gets the job done. Next we have the

shotgun mic. Comes with a fluffy foam

thing to stop wind from

destroying your audio quality, and there's

a 3.5mm jack that you can plug into

your phone. Now I know a lot of modern-day

phones don't have smartphone— I mean,

don't have 3.5mm holes anymore.

But if you have an S10+ like I do, then

you will have one. And if you don't have

one, then you need to get a little USB-C

adapter thingamajig.

This is the Kenko wide-angle lens.

Bought this in Japan. It's a very

good wide-angle lens attachment. And this

is the tripod that comes with it. It looks

a bit like the Manfrotto tripod design.

Very similar, simple design. It's got like

a ball socket here that you can tighten

and loosen and rotate

it around. I'll leave a link in the

description where you can find all this on

Amazon. So yeah, let's go ahead and

assemble the ultimate vlogging device.

Now it's up to you how you do

this because there's multiple ways. You

could use this hole at the bottom and have

it like this, or you can just do it like a

normal person and use the bottom hole and

do it like this,

like that.

And you could just get rid of the light

and put the microphone straight on the top

like that, and that could go on the top

like so.

Okay, let's go ahead and attach the

lights. My main problem with this cold

shoe is it's kind of hard to get things on

it. You can't just push it on and slide it

on. You kind of have to twist it and push

at the same time. Twist it left and

right whilst pushing, and it will ease its

way into that groove. So we have the light

fixed on. And you do need

2 AA batteries. Let me show you.

So make sure you've got 2 AA batteries

before you attempt this setup,

and then we can put it onto the tripod.

So it looks like this currently.

Next, we will put on the microphone,

and you can choose to put the microphone

on the top or at the side. It's really

up to you. I like to put it on the side

because I think it looks cool.

So that just slides on pretty easily, and

this actually has the opposite problem

because it's kind of loose. You have to

tighten it up using this twisting screw

thing, make it nice

and tight, and then

we put the smartphone in next, I think.

Nearly finished. And then last but not

least,

last but not least, we will attach the

wide-angle lens.

And there you have it,

we've got all of the main components for

the ultimate smartphone vlogging device.

And when it comes to making videos,

there's really 4 different main important

factors. Number 1, you need good lighting.

Obviously, bad lighting just makes

everything look dark and the picture

quality goes down. So we've got good

lighting from the LED lights.

As you can see, it gets quite bright.

Yeah, quite bright.

And then we have the wide-angle lens for

a wider field of view. The problem with

the smartphones these days is they all

have wide-angle lens, but they put it on

the wrong side. They put it on the rear

side, but they don't give you a wide-angle

lens for the selfie side, which is just

kind of stupid in my opinion. I really

want a phone that has wide-angle lens on

both sides, then I can do wide-angle

vlogging without needing one of these

clip-on lens. That would be great.

And the third

important factor when it comes to vlogging

is good audio. The built-in mics on a

phone are not great, and this shotgun mic

just gives you much better directional

sound input. And the foam thing is great

if you're vlogging outside and it's very

windy and you want clear audio.

And finally, we have the tripod, which

brings stability into the factor. When

you're making a video, maybe you don't

want to handhold it and you want it to be

a stable video. And that's where having a

good sturdy tripod comes into play,

and you can also collapse the legs and

turn it into a selfie stick like this.

So you could handhold a vlog

outside like this, selfie stick that turns

into a tripod, you've got your wide-angle

lens so you kind of have a GoPro wide

field of angle, lighting in case it gets

dark because you might be vlogging all day

long, And you've got a microphone with

good quality sound.

So yeah, this is my solution to vlogging.

Fixes all of the main problems that come

with vlogging on your phone. Don't really

know what else to show you apart from

that. I think it's quite a solid setup

and it's not really expensive. It's about

£50. Off Amazon,

and I'm pretty sure you could get it in

most countries. Build quality

is pretty good, sturdy plastic.

As you can see, there's like a ball and

socket joint, a bit like your elbow,

rotates around.
