I was SO Wrong about the SWITCH OLED

Hello and welcome back to a new video. So

as some of you may notice, I have made

some pretty critical videos about the

Switch OLED, and I think that's created a

bit of a misunderstanding. It seems like

people think that I hate the Switch and I

hate Nintendo, and I have no idea why

people would think that, because obviously

if I hated Nintendo and the Switch so

much, I wouldn't have bought 3 different

Switch devices. I've bought the original

Switch back when it first came out, and I

also had the Switch Lite when that came

out, and I also bought the Switch OLED.

So obviously I am a fan of the Switch. I

think it's a great device with plenty of

potential, and I wanted to make a video

countering the negative videos I made

about the Switch OLED, you know, just to

balance things up. And today I'll be

talking about reasons why I think the

Switch OLED is a great device. Maybe I was

overly critical about the Switch OLED in

my previous videos, but there are some

things about the Switch OLED that I do

actually really, really like. And one of

those things would have to be the battery

life. I think the battery life for a

handheld device is pretty impressive. I

can play Mario Kart for maybe up to 6

hours straight before having to plug this

into a charger, and 6 hours of gaming is

plenty enough time to get some gaming

sessions going. And I think that the Steam

Deck in comparison kind of falls short in

this regard because you can't really play

6 hours of gaming on the Steam Deck. One

of my favorite things about the Switch

OLED is just how comfortable you can get

whilst playing games on the Switch OLED.

So in comparison, when you're gaming on a

gaming laptop such as my 17-inch Razer

Blade Pro gamer laptop with RTX 3060

graphics card, sure, that is a powerful

machine and it's great for gaming, But you

kind of have to sit hunched over a

keyboard and mouse playing at a desk, and

it's not very comfortable. My back starts

to hurt, and sometimes when my girlfriend

is here, I want to spend time with my

girlfriend, and I want to enjoy her

company, not sitting over my gaming

computer setup over my desk with my mouse

and keyboard completely ignoring her. If I

did that all the time, she'd be very upset

and she'd probably leave me. So when my

girlfriend is here and I want to do some

gaming, I can still do some gaming because

I can just sit on this couch, this sofa,

and sit next to her whilst watching TV. I

think the Switch OLED offers a unique

experience in the way that you can still

enjoy the company of people— your friends,

your family, your loved ones. You can

still enjoy their company whilst being

sociable and also playing some Mario Kart

or maybe some other games on the Switch

OLED. It just makes you seem like you're

more sociable instead of shutting yourself

away in a bedroom hunched over a gaming

laptop or gaming desktop setup. In your

dark bedroom. Sure, that kind of

experience is nice and has its place in

the world when you want to do some serious

gaming and you're all by yourself and you

want to really get into the gaming

experience. Then the Switch OLED, it might

not be great for that and you might prefer

gaming laptop. But then the Switch OLED

also offers unique opportunities for

gaming where a laptop or desktop just

won't really cut it. For example, you

could be in the car, on a train, on a

plane, and you can do some pretty good

gaming with this device. There's plenty of

non-Nintendo games on this device as well.

So even if you're not a fan of Nintendo

games like Pokémon or Zelda or Mario and

you prefer more mature games and grown-up

games, then you've got a great selection

of games on the Nintendo eStore. For

example, you've got some really adult

games like Resident Evil 2 which can be

played over cloud, or you've got Mortal

Kombat. So I really do think that it

caters to a wide audience of gamers.

You've got your kiddie games like Mario

Luigi and that kind of stuff, but there's

also a lot of indie games that have been

ported over from Steam and from PC, and a

lot of Sega games as well. For example,

there's Sonic on it, Bayonetta, and

there's loads of other games. Let me

think. A lot of the Resident Evil games

are on Switch as well, so even if you are

a mature gamer, I think you'll be able to

find something you like on this device.

Secondly, I really like the way the

console feels in the hands. It's got a

really nice feeling to it. It's very

light, very slim, not big, chunky, and

bulky like the Steam Deck is. For some

reason, I really didn't like holding the

Steam Deck. I didn't really look forward

to picking up the Steam Deck to do some

gaming. It just felt like a hassle and a

chore. But when it comes to the Switch

OLED, there's something very nice about

it. I like putting my hands around it. I

like holding it. It looks like a really

slim and sleek console. It's a nice piece

of gear. And on the back side of the

Switch OLED, you've got this really nice

kickstand. It seems like they've learned a

few things from the Microsoft Surface

because it's got this really wide

kickstand. It's so nice. I remember one of

my main complaints about the original

Switch was how it had that really tiny,

weak, and pathetic kickstand, which was

just like a little rectangle of plastic,

and it would fall over all the time. Can

you imagine trying to put a Switch

original on this kind of surface where

it's a bit Bit soft, not really that

stable. It would just fall over all the

time unless you had a very hard and flat

surface. But the Nintendo Switch OLED has

this amazing kickstand. Look at this

thing, it's so wide it completely covers

the entire backside of the back of the

Switch. And the other good thing about it

is it folds all the way like this. It's

almost a 180-degree fold.

And it lets you put the Switch onto almost

any kind of surface, even something as

unstable as a bed duvet or a pillow or a

cushion or your girlfriend's backside. I

mean, look at that angle. You could be

having this propped up on a pillow, you

could be lying on your belly in bed and

doing some gaming. That viewing angle is

just so nice. Something the Steam Deck

doesn't have is a really good kickstand.

You've got to get a separate stand for it.

And that's just kind of rubbish because

the Steam Deck can fall out of the stand.

The stand could just fall over and topple

everything over. Another great addition is

you've got this microSD card slot, so you

can get a really big SD card, maybe even a

1TB SD card or 512GB SD card.

And the amount of games you can store on

that SD card is just so big. And if you

get the— I don't know how many gigabytes

is in the base model. I think you get like

128GB. So in addition to that, you can get

a lot of games on this device. Plus you've

also got the cartridge slot at the top,

so if you don't want to download games,

you can just have a big bag full of

physical games. I've got Mario Kart in

here, I think. Yeah, I've got the Mario

Kart cartridge, and that way you

don't even have to worry about storage

space because you can just carry around

the little cartridge thing and plug that

in. I also love the way you can take the

Joy-Cons off and then you've got this

individual controller system that you can

use. And the Switch OLED looks really cool

when you've got the controllers detached.

It just looks like, like a tablet. It kind

of looks like a really advanced tablet.

It's a really thick and serious tablet for

some serious gaming, not like a piddly

little thin iPad where all you can play is

Candy Crush and Clash of Clans. This is a

proper gaming device, and it really feels

that way when you've got the controllers

detached. And you've got this really nice

looking screen. It really looks premium

and quality. So yeah, even though it's not

the perfect device— every device has its

own drawbacks and flaws— I still think

it's a pretty good device for the amount

of money you'd have to pay for it. It's

not overly expensive, it's not really

cheap either, but you can't really expect

to get a device like this for a cheap

price. I think it's pretty good if you're

just looking to play some casual games and

you want something light and easy for your

travels or when you're commuting to work

or school, I think you can't really go

wrong with the Switch OLED. So those

were just a few positive things about the

Switch OLED that I thought I had to make

clear because I have been pretty negative

about it in recent videos, and that's

mainly because I do like the device and

I'm a bit frustrated that it fell flat on

a few things, and I feel like Nintendo can

easily improve on those things And I

wanted to make this video to balance out

some of the negativity that I put out.
