iPadOS Beta is a buggy mess

Hello and welcome back to another tech

review with me, Daniel. Today we're going

to be talking about the brand new iPadOS

beta version. Now, I was pretty surprised

about this because I didn't know you could

download the beta version of the brand new

iPadOS, which should be coming out

officially in September. I thought only

special people could download the beta

version, or I thought you had to pay for

it, like some kind of Apple developer

membership. But no, anyone can download

the beta version. Anyone. And you can

download it for free. Just Google download

iPadOS beta, and then you have to sign in

using your Apple ID, and then it just lets

you download the beta version of the brand

new operating system that's coming out in

September. Really cool. I got really

excited because I can't wait for this

update personally. So as you can see right

in front of me, I have the brand new

iPadOS beta version, test version,

downloaded onto my iPad. And what you can

notice straight away is you get widgets on

the home screen. So before iPadOS, you had

to swipe left and it would have all your

widgets in the center on its own page.

But now you can have the widgets on the

same page as the home page, so you don't

have to swipe left anymore to see your

widgets. They're just there. I mean, that

is just so great because I can be on my

home page and then I can just scroll my

widgets And it just gives me so much

useful information just right at my

fingertips. It's so useful. I always look

at my widgets, and I always wanted to be

able to look at my widgets on the home

screen so I don't have to swipe left every

time, because that was just a lot of hard

work swiping left. Now, I was pretty

excited about using Apple— I mean, iPadOS

beta, but unfortunately there are a few

things about it that aren't very good.

And I'm going to get into that later. But

first of all, I want to explain to you the

great things about it, the main

differences, the main upgrades. Okay, so I

would say that the— my favorite upgrade to

iPadOS would be the Safari browser.

Before, Safari browser wasn't very good

because it was basically just a mobile

version of the Safari browser. My biggest

problem with the Safari browser used to

be, it was just basically a mobile browser

and you couldn't access certain features

on certain websites because it wasn't a

proper full-blown desktop browser. For

example, this page you're looking at now

on YouTube only opens on desktop browsers.

Before, I couldn't look at this page on my

iPad. Before I downloaded iPadOS beta,

whenever I tried to look at this page on

YouTube, on YouTube Analytics, it wouldn't

open. It would just be a blank white

screen because the Safari browser wasn't a

proper browser. But now on iPadOS beta,

it works as a proper full-blown browser,

just like on your computer or your laptop.

And this is really good because I, I like

looking at this page. It tells me how well

my video is doing compared to the last 10

videos, and I couldn't look at this page

before. The next great thing about the new

Safari browser is you can download things

off of the internet and it saves directly

into the file system. For example, when

I'm doing video editing, sometimes I like

to add music and I get my music from the

YouTube Audio Library and you have to

download it. Before, I couldn't download

it directly from the website. This is how

I used to do it before. Before, I had to

use Firefox because Firefox was, was the

only browser that let me do this. So I had

to press So for example, if I wanted this

song, I had to press this download button,

but instead of downloading, it will open

this audio playing thing, this thing,

and then you can play it here. But if I

wanted to open it, download it into the

video editor, I'd have to press these dots

up here and then do, um,

share page with It

takes a bit of time for some reason. I'm

not sure why it takes time. And then you

have to scroll down to— where is it—

KineMaster, which is the video editing

software that I use. But now on the brand

new Safari browser, I can just press this

arrow to play the music. Before, when you

pressed it, nothing happened. But now when

you press the arrow, it will play the

You see, and then if I want to download

it, I just press the download button and

it will ask me if I want to download it.

And then there's a little download button

here where you can see what's downloading,

and if you press it, you can see what's

downloaded. And there's information— which

one did— oh, I downloaded for We Are Many,

so it's here. And there it's in the file

system. And then if I want to open it up

in my video editor, then you press this

button, and then you press this button,

and then copy to KineMaster. So actually

it hasn't really saved me many steps. I

actually think it's more steps now because

I press download, and then I press this

one, then I press this one, then I press—

that's 4 buttons. Actually, it was

quicker, less button presses when I did it

on Firefox, and the file system now has

this Downloads tab, and everything you

download gets downloaded into this folder.

So these are the songs that I downloaded,

and you can just press them, play them.

Yeah, it's pretty nice.

Another new feature is, well, you know the

pop-up window which lets you pop up an app

like this. Well, now you can swipe up from

the bottom and you can do multitasking

with these pop-up apps. So you can switch

between the pop-up apps, and if you swipe

left or right at the bottom,

it will switch between the apps you have

open on the pop-up window thing.

And it's actually pretty cool. It's kind

of like having a little iPhone stuck to

your screen, and then you can just switch

between different apps that you have

opened on the pop-up window feature. So

what I usually like to do is I like to

play games, and then I have the pop-up

window here, and I'm just switching

between different apps whilst I wait for

my turn. Okay, so this is where we start

to run into problems. The pop-up window

feature It's kind of bugged right now on

the iPadOS beta version. And to

demonstrate this bug, I need to show you

my— one of my favorite games that I really

enjoy playing is this 8-ball game. Pool,

I think it's called pool or billiards.

I'm not sure what the difference is. When

I'm playing 8-ball pool, I like to have

the pop-up window app popped up whilst I'm

waiting for my turn. So as you can see, I

accidentally potted my opponent's ball.

So now it's my opponent's turn, and

instead of just sitting here waiting for

my turn to come, I like to pop up this

window and then, you know, look at

YouTube, look at Discord, look at

messages. And that's great, it works fine,

but for some reason I can't get rid of it.

Look, usually you swipe to the right to

hide it, to get rid of it, but it doesn't

Doesn't go away. I'm swiping to the right.

It's not going away.

It's really annoying. The only thing I can

do is move it over to the other side so I

can see which ball I'm aiming at.

I just potted two of the opponent's balls.

It's really annoying because when it's my

turn, I can't see what I'm aiming at

properly unless I keep moving it from side

to side, and I can't get rid of it. The

only way to get rid of it is if I close

the whole game down. Go back into the

game, but then I need to reconnect. So now

I've reconnected, I can bring it back out

like this, but then it won't go away.

This is a really annoying bug and

didn't used to do this before I downloaded

iPadOS beta.

It's just kind of irritating because I

play a lot of 8-ball And 8 Ball is a great

game, but when you're waiting for your

turn, it's pretty boring. So I like to

swipe out apps and keep myself busy, but

now the swipe out thing is kind of broken.

It's a bit difficult to do that now.

Okay, my next problem with the new iPadOS

beta is YouTube. The YouTube app is really

buggy now ever since I downloaded the new

iPadOS beta version, my YouTube

app keeps crashing, keeps freezing, and

it's just really annoying. And because of

this, I kind of regret downloading the

iPadOS beta, and I'm thinking about

removing it. It's kind of hard to recreate

this situation because it's very random.

It just crashes randomly sometimes. I'm

trying to— what video should I show you so

I don't get into trouble. I'll just go on

to my own channel. Oh, another thing I

noticed is the volume. When you change the

volume, before there was like this square

in the middle which showed you the volume

going up or down. Now there's like a bar

at the top. Can you see that? And if you

touch the bar, you can slide it left or

right. That's new. That's pretty cool. So

I'm going to play some videos and I'm

going to try and show you why— how it

keeps crashing. I'm going to try and make

it crash. This could be a bit difficult

though, because I'm not entirely sure why

it crashes in the first place.

Oh, there we go, there we go. That was

easy, didn't take long. See, it's crashed.

It's completely frozen, not responding at

all. Can't press anything. Oh, there we

go, now it's moving. I'm not sure

why it does it. I think it's when you keep

pressing things too quickly. I think it's

crashed again. Yeah, it's crashed again.

You see, it's not responding at all.

Nothing's responding. And then all you

have to do is you just have to wait about

5, 5 to 10 seconds, and then it should

start responding again. But it's so

annoying when you're trying to flick

through videos and watch different videos

and you trying to minimize it and you're

trying to reply to comments and you're

trying to go back home, and then it just

randomly crashes every few minutes. It's

so annoying. And ever since I downloaded

iPadOS, it's just made my iPad experience

worse. The new upgrades aren't really huge

upgrades for me personally. I don't really

notice them much. Don't really care about

having widgets there. I never look at the

widgets anyway. And I thought being able

to download music from the YouTube Audio

Library on the new Safari browser would be

good, but actually it's quicker to do it

the old way on Firefox by doing the share,

share in other app button.

You're also supposed to be able to plug in

USB drives now, but I don't have any USB

sticks, so I can't test that out. I'm not

sure what else is different. I'm sure

there's a few other new things. But so

far, so far,

um, I don't re— I don't recommend

downloading the iPadOS beta. It's just a

test version, it's still buggy, and I

don't really care that much about the new

things you can do on it. The bugs are just

making it— making my whole iPad experience

a bad experience, and I'm not happy about

it. So in conclusion, if you're wondering

if you should download the iPadOS beta

version, I would say no. Because the bugs

on YouTube and the bugs interrupting my

8-ball pool game are just so annoying,

and I don't really see any benefits from

downloading it right now. If you

desperately want widgets on your home

screen, and if you desperately want to be

able to download things on the Safari

browser, then sure, go ahead, download it.

But when your YouTube starts crashing,

don't come running to me crying.
