Switch 2 Impressions after 30 in-game hours…

So it's been a few days since I

got my hands on my brand new Switch 2,

and I have to say, I have been loving this

thing. I've been cranking out the hours,

non-stop gaming, and I think I've put in

well over 30 hours of gameplay in the last

day or two. And there's something really

special about this device that I just

really want to share with you guys today.

And as someone who's used a lot of

handheld gaming devices, the Switch 2

really stands out to me as one of the

best, mainly because of a few features

that we're going to discuss in today's

video. One of my favorite things about the

Switch 2 has to be the form factor,

and the reason why is because it's big.

The screen is really big, and the camera

just does not do this thing justice. It's

so slim and flat Look at the Joy-Cons,

they're so flat. And maybe some people

would think, aren't they uncomfortable to

hold? Aren't they tricky to hold compared

to something like a Steam Deck or an ROG

Ally that has thicker handheld grips for

the Joy-Cons? And honestly, you would be

surprised that this is surprisingly

comfortable to carry and hold for extended

periods of handheld gaming. I don't really

ever miss the chunkiness of the Steam Deck

or the thickness of the ROG Ally, because

this device just looks so much sleeker and

nicer to hold in the hand. And I never

really felt like the Joy-Cons or the

control layout was making my hand ache or

anything. And because this thing is so

flat and has such a flat form factor, the

portability of this device is just leagues

above something like a Steam Deck, which

is actually quite a chunky machine. When I

try and put it into my backpack, I realize

it actually takes up quite a lot of space

in my backpack, and there's not much room

for a lot of other things in my backpack

when I put my Steam Deck in there. But

with this, it just slots right in there.

It just kind of disappears into the back

of the backpack, and you don't even

realize it's there anymore. You can just

put it in there and forget it's even in

there. So for a travel companion, this—

you can't really beat this in my opinion.

You just put it right into anything, it

just slots right in there, sinks to the

bottom, and it's gone. Another favorite

thing about the Switch 2 of mine is this

thing is an absolute unit. It is a

powerhouse. Where everything is just

included with the device. You don't have

to buy any other accessories or adapters

to make it do the thing that you want it

to do. So you can detach the Joy-Cons and

attach it to a grip thing so you can have

like a tablet experience and set it down

on the table, and put out the kickstand

and place it on a surface like a coffee

table or the back seat of an airplane when

you bring down the dinner tray and you

just sit there gaming. You don't need to

bring anything bulky or adapters or

anything to plug into it. It's all just

built into the same device, and I think

the convenience of that is extremely

convenient. And for the screen, the

screen, the display is absolutely amazing.

Okay, it's not OLED, it's not going to

have those vivid deep blacks and colors of

an OLED screen, but for an LCD panel, it

is pretty damn good. As an LCD panel,

and the best thing about this screen is

it's just so damn smooth. You can run your

finger across it and you don't feel a

thing. I think one of my favorite features

with the Switch 2 has got to be the

magnetic attaching Joy-Cons. The way they

just pop off effortlessly with that little

button, it feels very satisfying. Watch,

it just pops off with this satisfying

click. Clips back on.

You take it off like that and you take the

other one— effortless. With the original

Switch, you had to push it in and slide it

out and slide it in and slide it out. It

became a bit of a pain in the backside to

have to keep sliding it in and sliding it

out and sliding it in. This way, it just

magnetically pops right on, and it is

so satisfying and feels so good. I also

really enjoy all the different ways you

can play a game. You can use the

controllers as it is attached to the

device. You can detach them with a Joy-Con

in each hand whilst the screen is propped

up on a table or a surface, or you can

attach it into the Joy-Con grips to have a

controller-like experience, or you can

even put the right Joy-Con down on a table

and use it like a mouse with its new

optical sensor. There's just so many ways

you can game, and it's really up to you to

choose how you want to experience your

games. I do have a few issues with the

Switch 2 which I'll touch on in this part

of the video, that is mainly I don't

really know what to play on it. There's

not a lot of new games out on it. All the

games that have launched with it are

basically older games that I've already

played. Cyberpunk 2077 is a pretty good

game, runs extremely well, and don't get

me wrong, it's really impressive that it

plays on this at all, but I've already

played Cyberpunk 2077. I've put in

hundreds of hours into it already on PC,

and I already have it on PC. I don't

really want to shell out more money on a

Switch version when I could just play it

on PC and probably have a better

experience because I can play it on my

ultrawide monitor and it has ultrawide

support on the PC. And I've got other

things on it like better graphics, maybe

mods if I was going to use those. When I

dock my Switch 2 into my ultrawide

monitor, unfortunately there's no

ultrawide support. So either you get black

bars on the sides or you're going to get a

stretched out image, which isn't exactly

ideal. Also, there's no sound, so I don't

have any external speakers. I use my

laptop speakers when I use my laptop, but

when I dock this to my monitor, it doesn't

seem to detect the built-in speakers of

the monitor and use them. So there's no

sound, and the only way I could get sound

is if I used headphones, which I don't

have by the way, or if I just buy some

external speakers like a Bluetooth

speaker. So I am contemplating whether I

should buy a Bluetooth speaker just so I

can have sound when I dock this into my

monitor. But then it makes me wonder,

docking is cool and everything if you want

to play Switch games on a bigger screen,

But I can play more games on my laptop

connected to the monitor and have sound

and have ultrawide support and keyboard

and mouse. Yeah, you can plug keyboard

mouse into the dock and have a keyboard

and mouse experience, but it's just not

going to be as good as a keyboard and

mouse experience on a proper laptop. So it

makes me wonder, why am I playing the

Switch 2 docked and using it as a gimped

desktop experience when I could just use

my desktop for the desktop experience and

I've got all the games on Steam that I

want to play. There's no Steam games on

this. There's like a couple of PC games

that have ported over, but I already have

those on Steam. Like Hitman, I have it.

Hogwarts Legacy, I have it. Cyberpunk, I

have it. Elden Ring isn't out on Switch

yet, but I already have it on PC and I

could have a better experience on my

ultrawide monitor. The only benefit of the

Switch 2, in my opinion, is if you're

going to play in handheld mode, because

every other thing about the Switch 2 that

you would say good is not as good as a

gaming laptop. So a gaming laptop has more

games, it has Steam games, it has the

customizability of being Windows. You can

do other things on a gaming laptop, not

just game. You can do productive stuff.

You can't really do anything productive on

this. You can't even watch YouTube because

the YouTube app doesn't work for some

reason. And the only reason why this would

be better is if you want to play Mario or

Zelda games really badly, or Pokémon.

Nintendo games, obviously you're going to

need a Switch. So if you want to play

those games on the big screen, like I have

to admit Mario Kart on the big screen is

quite an enjoyable experience and I

wouldn't be able to have that experience

without the Switch. So if you didn't care

about the Nintendo games, you really are

better off with a gaming laptop unless you

really want to do handheld gaming where

you can sit on the sofa or sit on your

beanbag or sit in the garden even, or

public transport if you do gaming on

public transport. Although if I was on

public transport transport like a bus, I

would not feel safe whipping this out

because this is an expensive-looking

premium piece of kit, and I would not

really feel safe flaunting it around

outside in public, at least in the UK,

because, you know, it's the UK.
