Pick ROG ALLY Instead of Lenovo Legion Go： Here's Why

Hello, welcome back to a new video. So

today I want to talk about why the ROG

Ally is a much better gaming device than

the Lenovo Legion Go, which has recently

come out. And if you're thinking which one

to buy, I highly recommend this one over

the Legion Go for the reasons that I'll

talk about in today's video. So the Legion

Go is quite a chunky, quite a big device.

This only weighs about 600 grams, which is

really light in the hand. I can hold it

with one hand pretty easily and just move

it around like that without worrying about

hurting my wrist or dropping this thing

because it's tipping over and it's

overweight in my hands compared to the

Legion Go, which is like 850 grams.

That's quite a lot heavier than the, than

the ROG Ally. So if you're wanting a

device that's small, lightweight, and

pocketable, then I would choose the ROG

Ally over the Legion Go. And yes, you can

actually in fact fit this into your

pockets. Let me show you.

And like that, you see, like that you

wouldn't even notice that you're carrying

a gaming device in your pocket. So you're

completely pocketable. Put your shirt down

over it, no one can even tell that you're

carrying this device. I really don't think

you could do the same with the Legion Go I

would like to see anyone attempt to put a

Legion Go in your pocket because that

thing is massive. So if you want a

pocketable device, definitely go for the

Legion— I mean, the ROG Ally. So from what

I can see, the Legion Go only has 2

things, 2 things going for it, which would

be the bigger screen, which is about 8.8

inches compared to— I think it's 7-inch on

the ROG Ally. So it's like a slightly

bigger screen, but it comes at a cost of

the entire device just being very heavy

and big and bulky and unwieldy. So if

you've got dainty hands, then you might

get wrist sprain or hand sprain, and it'll

be kind of uncomfortable to hold. And then

the second benefit of the Legion Go would

be the detachable controllers, or the

Joy-Cons, kind of like the Switch. Now I

don't really care about that because if

I'm playing it handheld, obviously the

controllers would be attached to the

device. And then if I detach the

controllers and prop it up on its

kickstand, then I would rather just use my

external keyboard and my own mouse that I

got I've got my own wireless mouse here.

I'd much rather use this than that weird

vertical joystick, um, mouse thing that's

built into it. And I'd rather use my

keyboard than use the left controller as

the movement system. So if I'm gonna play

it on my desk propped up on its stand in

docked mode, then I'd rather just use it

as a computer, which is what I do with the

ROG Ally now. I plug it into my USB hub,

plug into my external monitor, my

keyboard, my mouse, and I just use it as a

laptop, like a mini computer. That's what

I would do with the Legion Go, which kind

of makes a detachable Joy-Con controller

grip totally pointless. It's cool it can

do it, but the problem with the detachable

controllers is the same as the Switch. It

makes the entire unit less stable. When

you bend it, it's going to have squeaks

and it's going to make sounds, creaking,

which is what happened with the Switch

because it's not all one unit. It's all

movable, even with the way it slots into

the device. It's not 100% solid, so you

can like bend it and move it a bit, and it

makes all these not very nice sounds that

make me feel a bit worried that it's gonna

break or something. So I wouldn't buy it

for the detachable controllers. That is a

gimmick that I wouldn't actually

personally get any kind of gain from. I

wouldn't be interested in using that. I

don't know about you, but the bigger

screen could be nice when you're holding

it handheld. The bigger screen does seem

like it'd be nicer, but it all depends if

you're willing to sacrifice the comfort in

your hand and the portability. What's more

important, a slightly more portable device

that's lighter, or a slightly bigger

device that is heavier? These are the

things you're going to have to decide as a

grown adult when you're trying to choose

which gaming device to purchase. You're

going to have preferences and things you

don't like, and that's kind of up to you.

If I had to make the decision for you, I

would go for the portable route because

these are supposed to be portable handheld

gaming devices that can slot into your

backpack without weighing you down like a

big heavy 17-inch Razer Blade Pro gaming

laptop would. So I don't really see the

point of getting Legion Go when it's so

big. We're starting to border on the

territory of a tablet. And there's another

gaming device, it is called the TDP

10-inch something, made in China or

something. It's like a massive 10-inch

slab with a controller stuck on the sides.

And sure, it must be really nice having a

10-inch screen, but it's starting to morph

from handheld gaming console territory

into basically a laptop/tablet

with a controller attached to it. It's

getting kind of silly. At what point are

we going to have 15-inch screens with a

controller attached to it and people are

going to say, oh look, it's my new gaming

handheld console? These are not gaming

handheld consoles, they're basically just

overpowered tablets at this point, and

it's going to be very uncomfortable to

hold that as a games console. And

secondly, the Legion Go doesn't have VRR,

whereas the ROG Ally does. Now VRR stands

for variable refresh rates, which

basically means the refresh rates of the

screen are variable. They don't stay

constant, they vary depending on the

performance of the game and the charging

capabilities of the battery. So this is

kind of problematic with the Legion Go not

having VRR, means you can have slightly

more choppy looking and laggy stuttery

looking gameplay in certain titles or at

certain benchmarks, the gameplay is just

not going to look as smooth as it's going

to look in the ROG Ally just because it

doesn't have variable refresh rate.

That's just— I mean, how can you release a

brand new gaming handheld console and not

have VRR? That is crazy. So in conclusion,

I would have to say do not buy the Legion

Go if you're looking for a handheld gaming

device. Get the ROG Ally, which by the way

I'm actually selling right now. So if you

want to buy yourself an ROG Ally that's in

great condition and comes with the carry

case, then put a message in the comments

Ally. But you gotta pay for the postage

because I'm not going to ship all the way

to Timbuktu and pay that postage for you,

because why would I?

Now the reason why I'm interested in

selling the ROG Ally is not because I

think it's bad, it's just because I've

been looking at the— what's it called— GDP

Win Max 2. They have really bad names,

these Chinese handheld consoles coming out

of China, like TDP, GPD, I don't remember.

But anyway, it's like a tiny 10-inch

screen with a keyboard attached to it with

a laptop clamshell kind of design, but,

but it can also play AAA games like the

Steam Deck or the ROG Ally can. So it

looks quite interesting as a very

miniature laptop, and I want to get my

hands on one of those so I could review it

in the future.
