Why I Regret Buying Starfield

So I'm pretty upset today because I just

wasted nearly $200 on this new video game

called Starfield. You might have heard of

it. It's a very highly anticipated new

title that everyone's been raving on about

for the last few months. And I decided to

buy the Digital Premium Edition because

actually the game comes out in 5 days on

the 6th. And today you can play the game

if you're willing to upgrade to the

digital version, which I decided to do

today. And I kind of got confused because

if you have Xbox Gaming Pass, you can play

the game for free. And obviously I have

Xbox Gaming Pass because I'm a gamer, and

I thought I could play the game for free

in addition to, you know, obviously the

monthly fees. But I really wanted to play

it today because I was very excited to

play Starfield. So I saw that there's 2

premium, uh, premium, uh, digital,

uh, but I saw that there's 2 premium

editions. There was the Premium Early

Access Upgrade Edition, which costs £31,

and then the Premium Edition which cost

£99.99. And I thought all

I had to buy was the £31 premium upgrade

version, and then I'd be able to play it

today. So I set my alarm for 7 AM in the

morning, and I skipped school today as

well, by the way, so I could play this

game. And I wake up very early in the

morning, actually half past 6, so I could

make coffee and get ready. And I'm just

sitting there watching the timer tick down

to 7 AM, and it says 0 seconds

remaining until you can play this game.

And then I press play, and it doesn't

work. So I did some Googling and it turns

out I actually needed to buy the £99.99

version in addition to the digital premium

upgrade version. I know it's a lot of

money, but it wasn't really a difficult

decision to make because I was certain

that this game was guaranteed to be

amazing because it's so hyped up. How

could it be not amazing? And it's made by

Bethesda who make pretty good games

mostly. And if the game is going to give

me hundreds of hours of entertainment and

satisfaction, then £130 is not a huge

amount. I mean, I've spent around that

amount amount of money when I was in Japan

on only 15 minutes of entertainment, if

you know what I mean. So I took the plunge

and I decided to buy the most premium and

expensive premium version of the game,

and I kind of regret it now because after

playing the game all day, it actually kind

of sucks. So the game is kind of like a

mishmash of No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk 2077,

and also Fallout 4. And as someone who

loved all of those games and played them

for hundreds of hours, I thought, wow,

that sounds amazing. But it's not that

great, in the same way that even though I

love dogs, burgers, and pizzas. Mashing

all those foods together to make one dish

would be kind of disgusting. One of the

main selling points of this game is that

they've got thousands of planets in this

galaxy, this universe, that players can

explore, kind of like No Man's Sky had

thousands or even millions of planets that

the players can explore. And that sounds

kind of impressive, but when you actually

explore these planets, they all look like

barren, boring, bland wastelands of

nothing with maybe a few scattered

outposts here and there that you can

explore. I really don't understand why

game devs these days think us players want

to explore thousands of randomly generated

boring bland landscapes instead of, you

know, actually handcrafted amazing looking

detailed artistic wonderlands. The game is

just so unbelievably boring. It's just

like, oh, you pick up a mission, you have

to go to this waypoint on this random

planet in a different galaxy, and then you

land on the planets, which takes ages

after watching like 5 different cutscenes

of your ship taking off and landing and

loading screens. You get onto the planet,

you go towards the waypoint, and there's

maybe like an abandoned space station or

an abandoned camp. And then you infiltrate

it, you take, take out the bad guys, and

then you rescue the person you're supposed

to talk to or collect the objects and

bring it back to the quest giver. And you

level up a bit, and maybe you loot some

stuff and sell some stuff. That's

basically the whole game. And that's okay

because a lot of games are like that. But

the reason why it sucks in this game is

because the performance of this game— that

it has such terrible performance issues

that even as someone who plays on 17-inch

Razer Blade gaming laptop with RTX 3060

graphics card, the game is a stuttery mess

and my frame rates go down to as low as 10

or 15 FPS even with the graphics set to

low. And I heard that I'm not the only one

having these problems because I'm using an

Nvidia RTX graphics card and apparently

the game is sponsored by AMD, Nvidia's

rival. And now that Microsoft owns

Bethesda, maybe they were making sure the

game would work perfectly on the Xbox, or

maybe the Xbox uses AMD graphics cards and

they didn't really care too much about us

Nvidia card users. Or maybe they wanted us

to go out and buy an AMD graphics card so

the game actually works properly, which is

kind of a stupid thing to think of. At

number 1, I shouldn't have to play this

game on low settings. I've played all of

the recent AAA games that came out this

year and last year on ultra maxed out

settings. Like Cyberpunk 2077 is a very

demanding game as well, and I can play

that game on ultra mode and still have

like 30 to 40 FPS because My laptop isn't

too old. I bought it about 2 years ago.

So okay, it's a little bit old, but it was

an expensive laptop when I bought it at

the time, so it should be pretty good and

still be holding up well. There should be

no reason why I have to play this game on

low settings and still have terrible

performance. I just feel kind of stupid

because even if the game was running

smoothly and buttery, perfectly smooth,

and it was a great game and everything, I

don't know if I can actually justify

spending all of that money. £130 for a

game? Even if it was a really good game,

then it should only be like £50 It really

is sneaky how these game companies, they

kind of brainwash you or trick you or

manipulate you into buying these digital

premium editions just so you can play the

game earlier. They hype up the game and

then they announce some kind of official

release date, and then they also have like

a secret early access date where you can

only have early access if you pay the

special price. So yeah, I'm kind of

feeling regrets right now. I feel like I

paid way too much money for what I got in

return. The game is kind of buggy, a lot

of glitches. Performance issues are pretty

insufferable and makes enjoying the game

very difficult. Hopefully this will be

fixed soon, but as of right now, I'm kind

of hating the game and kind of getting

annoyed at these performance issues, and

I'm kind of losing confidence in the game

actually ever being good or getting good.

game unless I feel attracted to my

character. Oh my God, that smile.
