DO NOT BUY Sony's PS5 Handheld Console - Project Q sucks!

Hello and welcome back to a new video. So

recently Sony has announced their new

Project Q, which is basically a handheld

version of the PS5. And as an avid

handheld gamer, I knew I just had to share

my opinion on this. So when I first saw

this handheld version of the PS5, I was

actually kind of excited because as

someone who doesn't own a PS5 and never

will because the titles on the PS5 just

don't really appeal to me, I thought if

there's a handheld version of the PS5,

that might actually change my mind on

things. This handheld device is just an

absolute joke. It seems so pointless.

Okay, so number one, you can't actually

take it outside and play it because it has

to be connected to your PS5 and connected

to the same network that your PS5 is

connected to. So that makes it completely

pointless as a handheld device. The main

reason people buy and use handheld devices

is so they can take it with them outside,

but with Sony's PS5 handheld, you can't do

that because it has to remain tethered to

your PS5 console. Okay, so number one, If

you don't have a PS5 and you want to play

this, number one, you gotta buy a PS5 and

you have to buy this handheld thing. This

handheld thing is around $200 or $300,

and the PS5, I don't know, it's like $500

now. So that's about $800. You might as

well just bought a Steam Deck or ROG Ally

or another handheld gaming device. That

would be far better than this. So the way

it works is you connect it up to your PS5

and then it acts like a Remote Play thing,

and you just stream the games from your

PS5 locally to the handheld device thing,

and then you can play your PS5 games on

this tiny 8-inch screen instead of your

massive TV, which is what your PS5 is

probably hooked up to. So if you can only

play this in your house, I don't see why

you would use this instead of just using

the PS5 connected to the TV. Why would you

choose this instead of your massive TV?

The weird thing is you can already do this

using the Remote Play app on phones, and

then you can get the Backbone controller

thing, or you can get another plug-in

controller for Android or iPhone, and you

can stream PS5 games on your phone. It

basically does the same thing, and you

wouldn't have to spend all this money

because you probably already have a phone.

So I just don't really understand why they

bothered making this. I don't know who's

gonna buy it. I would have maybe bought it

if it was a standalone kind of PlayStation

5 console in a handheld form. And I think

most of the recent handhelds that are

coming out now, like ROG Ally and AYANEO

and the Steam Deck, are probably as

powerful or more powerful than a PS5. So I

don't know why the PS5 console is so

massively bulky when you can probably

shove all that hardware into a handheld

device. So I really think they missed the

ball by not making a standalone handheld

PS5 gaming device, because that might have

been a bit more appealing than what this

is. And it's just a shame because Sony

used to make good handheld consoles.

Like, the PSP Vita was way ahead of its

time. It was like one of the first

consoles that were handheld that had a

touchscreen, internet capability, little

camera built into it as well. It was

really advanced and there's nothing else

like it. I even think it was way better

than anything Nintendo had at the time.

Like, the 3DS was complete rubbish

compared to the PSP Vita. And it's just

kind of a shame that Sony used to be so

good at making these and now they're kind

of irrelevant in the handheld gaming

gaming scene, and this is the best they

could come up with? Come on. I also don't

really like Sony's exclusive games.

That's why I never bought the PS5,

because I don't know what games I really

want to play that are exclusive to PS5.

Like Spider-Man— Spider-Man games are so

boring. They're basically the same game

over and over again, just swinging around

New York with quick-time events, boring

counterattack kind of action combat that's

always exactly the same in every game. I

don't really care about Spider-Man. Or God

of War— God of War is like the most boring

franchise ever. It's just like bald angry

Viking man with an axe. Crash Bandicoot,

Tomb Raider. I guess there's a bunch of

other unique games that are only on Sony

PlayStations, but none of them are really

appealing to me. So I would never want to

buy a PS5 or even a PS5 handheld if they

made a proper one over, let's say, a

Switch OLED, which is my main handheld

gaming device, which has cool games like

Zelda, Mario Kart that you can't really

find on other consoles. I guess if you

were really desperate to use this as a

proper handheld and use it outside, maybe

there is a way. Like, you could put your

PlayStation 5 console into your backpack

and then connect it to some kind of power

source like a massive battery bank in your

backpack and then use your phone as a

hotspot and use that to connect to the

internet. I don't know if the PS5 actually

needs a TV to be switched on. Maybe you

can just switch on the PS5 without it

connected to a TV and it will connect to

this handheld device, and then you can

have like a portable PS5 gaming setup if

you have the PS5 console in your backpack.

I guess it could work. I don't see why

not. The only problem is the PS5 console

is pretty chunky and big thing, and I

don't know why. I'm wondering if you

actually just unscrewed it, dismantled it,

took away all of the plastic casing, the

insides, wouldn't it be a lot smaller than

the actual size of the PS5 console? Why do

you need all that massive plastic housing

and casing? Why can't you just like take

out the circuit board and the electronics

with the CPU and the graphics card on it,

and it would be like a very slim profile?

Maybe make a custom 3D-printed case that

will enable it to just slot easily into

your backpack, and then Yeah, I guess you

could make like a botched handmade

custom-built PS5 handheld portable gaming

setup in your backpack if you were clever

enough to know how to do all that stuff.

But I really don't know how strong or how

powerful or how massive of a power source

battery bank you would need to keep the

PlayStation 5 powered for more than 10

minutes. So yeah, it's kind of a dumb

product. I don't know why they thought

this would be a good idea, that you need

your PS5 turned on and connected and you

need it connected to the same network in

your house. You can't even leave your

house and use it, so it's kind of stupid,

defeats the whole purpose of a handheld

console. My theory is Sony is watching the

handheld gaming war that is happening

right now between the Steam Deck and the

ROG Ally and the Switches and the AYANEO

and all this cool tech that's coming out

now that's playing really good PC games

with really good performance and powerful

graphics, and they're thinking hey, we

used to be the king of handheld gaming

devices, we should try to re-enter this

world. And they're too scared to fully

commit because they don't really feel like

they can compete against things like

Switch OLED or Steam Deck. So I think

they're kind of testing the waters,

seeing how much interest there is for a

Sony handheld device, and they don't

really want to spend too much money on it,

so they just created this. I reckon it's a

pretty simple device, it's just a screen

with a controller. There's probably no

amazingly powerful tech inside of it

otherwise. I mean, if it had powerful CPU

and GPU within the device, then it could

just be a PS5 on its own. But I think it's

just a screen with like a very simple

circuitry. So it seems like they're

playing it safe and being very timid and

just releasing this kind of skeleton frame

of what could be a future version of a

more powerful version of a PS5 handheld

device. They're going to sell this and

then see how it does. And if it does

really well, maybe they would actually

make a proper PS5 handheld device that can

compete against Steam Deck and Switch

OLED. But as it is right now, you can't

really give it a fair chance against all

these other handhelds because it's not

even built or designed to be like a

standalone handheld to go up against all

these other devices. So I'm gonna say do

not buy this for now because I don't

really like PlayStation 5 games. I don't

have a PS5. And I wouldn't really want to

buy one. Maybe there'll be more

announcements on this thing and it'll

sound more appealing, more interesting

later on down the line. But as it is right

now, I think it is pretty boring.
