Why Japanese people will NEVER accept him as Japanese - The Anime Man (Joey Bizinger) [MLGdgLy9vFU]

There's this guy on YouTube called Joey

Bazinga, also known as The Anime Man, and

he's a pretty popular YouTuber. He does a

podcast called Trash Taste, which I've

been watching for several years now, and I

noticed he complains about the same things

over and over again quite consistently.

Whenever he complains about these things,

I always think he sounds kind of stupid

and what he's complaining about is really

dumb. So he's half Japanese and half

Australian, and he seems to get really

upset or triggered when Japanese people

don't see him as a Japanese person or

don't believe that he's Japanese, or when

they get really surprised when he speaks

Japanese. And I was thinking to myself,

yeah, it is kind of strange. Why doesn't

he look Japanese at all? His mum is

Japanese, he's half Japanese, but for some

reason he looks Hispanic or Arabian or

Middle Eastern. And I can kind of

understand why Japanese people are shocked

to find out that he's half Japanese.

Okay, so first of all, he's not Japanese.

Let's face facts, he is Australian. He was

born and raised in Australia, which by

default makes him Australian. To be

Japanese, you have to be from Japan, or at

least raised in Japan from a very young

age. And he keeps saying in Trash Taste,

I'm Japanese, I'm Japanese. I've never

seen him say I'm Australian. I don't know

why he thinks he's Japanese even though he

was born and raised in Australia. If you

want to tell people that you're Japanese,

you have to be at least born in Japan. He

had a lot of exposure to Japanese culture

and the Japanese language from his mum

since he was a baby, but that doesn't make

him Japanese. So you can't really complain

about Japanese people not accepting you or

viewing you as a Japanese person when

you're literally not even a Japanese

person. You are an Australian person who

has Japanese heritage. Sometimes he says

he's half Australian, half Japanese, but

technically that's not true either because

the word Australian and Japanese, those

are referring to nationalities. The

Japanese people are made up of different

ethnic groups. The majority ethnic group

that Japanese people are made up of are

the Yamato people, consisting of 98% of

the Japanese population. And then there's

a very small minority who are ethnically

Ainu. Now there might be a mixture of like

Yamato people and Ainu people, and there's

a possibility that his mum might be half

Ainu or even majority Ainu, which would

make him half Ainu as well, which would

explain the reason why he doesn't look

very Japanese, because the Ainu people

looked very different to the Yamato

people. And Australia is made up of lots

of different ethnic groups as well, the

majority ethnic group being Caucasian. So

technically he's half Caucasian and half

Yamato. Amato if he's gonna say half-half

something. His nationality can only be one

nationality because you can only be born

and raised in one country. You can't like

turn into 2 people and have like a double

life in both countries at the same time.

So it's physically impossible to be half

one nationality and half another

nationality unless you were born in an

airplane that was flying over the airspace

of 2 different countries, and the exact

moment you were born was when the plane

flew over the borderline and was split

half-half over 2 different airspace

territories. And then maybe you can say,

I was born in 2 different countries at the

same time. I was half this and half that.

So technically he's not Japanese, and

physically he doesn't look Japanese

because of his hairstyle and his beard.

He doesn't even seem to try to make

himself look Japanese. He doesn't even try

to attempt to have a Japanese hairstyle or

have like Japanese fashion. And then he

complains about Japanese people not

thinking he's Japanese. It's kind of silly

if you think about it. He obviously really

likes to have a beard and he doesn't want

to shave his beard, and that's because

obviously he's very heavily influenced by

Western culture. In Western culture, men

like to have beards because it looks

macho, it looks masculine. In the West,

most people would agree that men look

better with like a big full beard that's

kind of trimmed, looks kind of neat, but

it's still quite a big beard in Japanese

standards. In Japan and in Asia in general

Men don't have beards in Asia, especially

Japan. Beards look scruffy and make you

look kind of like a homeless person. So

men will have shaved faces, or at the very

most they have like a tiny beard, a tiny

little wispy goatee, because a lot of

Japanese men can't actually grow a big

full beard like that. I can't grow a big

beard. I just get some hair on my chin and

above on my upper lip I get like a little

mustache, but I can't grow a big thick

beard like Jory can. And that's kind of

rare for him to be able to grow a big

beard considering he has Asian genetics.

So the beard alone makes him look really

Western. Japanese people will look at

someone who has a big fluffy beard like

that and automatically think, wow, he must

be American or Western, he can't be

Japanese. So he could take an easy step

and just shave off the beard and instantly

look a lot more Japanese if he really

wanted Japanese people to think he's

Japanese, which he seems like he does

because he gets really upset at it. But

then he won't take the steps to try and

look Japanese, which means he identifies

more with Western culture because he had

more of a Western culture influence when

he was growing up because he's Australian.

Secondly, his hairstyle. He seems to

really like having this hairstyle. He's

had it for his entire YouTube career.

It's like this long, wavy Australian

surfer kind of hairstyle that's kind of

dyed light brown in areas. And he

could just change his hairstyle to like a

black hairstyle, cut it a bit, trim it,

make it a bit more tidy, comb it, have a

bit of a fringe or bangs as Americans say,

and he would instantly look lot more

Japanese if he had like a typical Japanese

hairstyle. But again, he refuses to

conform and change his image to try and

fit in, to try and look Japanese, which is

kind of the opposite of what Japanese

culture is all about. Japanese culture is

all about fitting in and not standing out,

because the hammer that sticks out gets

hammered down, as the Japanese phrase

goes. He obviously really likes having

this unique look, this unique style and

fashion, and he likes to stand out and be

his own person, which again is a very

Western kind of mindset, very heavily

influenced by Western culture, and it's

not really a Japanese cultural thing to

want to stand out. Japanese people want to

fit in. So those are 2 very easy things to

change— his beard and his hairstyle— but

he refuses to change them even though he

seems to really want Japanese people to

view him as their fellow Japanese person.

So I think it's kind of silly of him to

complain about it when he won't take any

steps to try and fix the problem. And the

third reason why he doesn't really look

very Japanese is because of his face. And

okay, he can't really do anything about

this apart from get plastic surgery like

that Oli London guy did to try and look

Korean, which was just so sad. But his

face is very Western looking. He's got

like a very strong and prominent nose

bridge, and that looks very Western from

the side. Japanese people don't tend to

have a very strong nose bridge. He also

has very deep-set eyes. His eyes are like

very deep in his skull, and he's got like

very strong eyebrow ridge. He kind of

looks like like Jason Momoa's son. He

speaks really good fluent Japanese.

Japanese people would think that they're

talking to a native Japanese person when

they talk to him. But as soon as they see

his face, they are always surprised and

they can't really disguise their surprise

or shock. They're usually very verbal and

vocal about how surprised they are. And

this seems to upset Joey as well. And I

guess I can kind of understand his

frustration because take me, for example.

I was born and raised in the UK. I

identify as a British person, but

obviously I'm not white. I'm only half

white and I'm half Chinese because my

mum's Chinese Malaysian. But I look very

Asian. And if English people were really

shocked and surprised when I spoke to them

in fluent English, then I would also be

kind of annoyed. But because the UK is a

multicultural country where

foreign-looking people are commonly born

and raised in the UK and speak with a

British accent, it's not really considered

to be unusual in the UK. But in Japan,

where the population is still 98% Japanese

and just like a very small, tiny

percentage is foreign, Japanese people are

still very shocked when they see a

non-looking Japanese person speak like a

native Japanese person. So I just don't

really feel like it's fair to complain

about Japanese people treating you like a

foreigner if you look like a foreigner,

because 99% of the time foreigners in

Japan are foreigners. I made a video

earlier this year about PewDiePie's kid

because PewDiePie, as you may know, had a

baby and the baby is obviously white.

Because his wife is Italian, and they had

this kid in Japan. And my argument was

that this kid will be unhappy because he

won't be able to identify as a Japanese

person even though he was born and raised

in Japan, and Japanese people would just

see him as a white foreigner. And if you

look at how frustrated Joey gets as a

half-Japanese person for not being

accepted as a Japanese person, imagine

what it's like being a white person born

and raised in Japan and and no one is

going to think you're Japanese even the

slightest. And even if you speak the most

fluent, perfect Japanese, they still won't

really see you as a Japanese person. They

always see you as a foreigner who speaks

really good Japanese. And that's just kind

of how Japan is, and you kind of have to

just accept it. I don't really see

anything changing anytime soon. It could

take hundreds of years before we see any

kind of societal change happening in
