Living in Japan is amazing if you hate talking to strangers

I just ordered an LG G5.

Shh, shh, don't tell anyone. It's a

secret. I wasn't supposed to be buying

anything more. I was supposed to be using

my Samsung S6 for the next 2 years.

It's already been half a year. That's long

enough, isn't it? Can't I get a new phone?

But the LG G5 just sounds so much better

than the S6. It has expandable storage. I

can add a microSD card. And the

front-facing camera is 8 megapixels. The

Samsung S6 front-facing camera is only 5

megapixels. That's, that's 3 megapixels.

You're gonna barely even notice the

difference. But I thought it would

be interesting to try out. Also,

apparently The front-facing camera

is wider angle.

I don't know how much by. It might just be

like this. So basically I could just

extend my arm further out with my current

camera and it would give off the same

effects. But why do that when I could

spend £250 and get a brand new phone?

I don't know when it's coming. There was

no next-day delivery, so I guess if they

got the order today, they'll see the order

tomorrow, dispatch it tomorrow, and I

might get it the day after tomorrow. It

depends if they do first-class mail.

Not sure.

Be interesting to see how the camera

compares to the Samsung S6 though.

It's a car.

Feeling pretty good tonight. Got my

belt on, don't have to worry about my

trousers falling down. Today is my last

day at work, and then I have 2 days off,

and then 7 days of work.

7 days straight I have to work, and then I

have 7 days off. We're going to a secret

location in the UK for a family holiday.

That should be mildly interesting, I

guess. Not really sure what to expect

of it. I got got a

little bit wet. Are you happy?

Are you happy? I literally just sprinted

all the way from work home. It's just

pouring down with rain out there, and I

got. Soaked.

So a few interesting things happened,

happened tonight. You know the

Irish women that came and did a load of

shoplifting? Well, one of them came back

and paid all the money back. Apparently

one of them is the daughter of the woman

who lives opposite me. I should have

known, should have known she was involved.

Apparently they want to see— they want to

see the camera footage. They want to see

the CCTV. Doesn't that sound a bit fishy?

Why do they want to see the CCTV? Don't

they believe us? The other person

at work, she said they just want to see

the CCTV so they can see where our blind

spots are. Do you think that's why? Are

they really that That's sneaky. They want

to find out the blind spot so they can

come back again and steal again.

There are no blind spots. The whole shop

is covered in cameras, so good luck with

that. Maybe, maybe we should pretend there

is a blind spot and make it really obvious

and let them find it so they, so they

believe that it's a blind spot. And then

they're going to try and shoplift again,

believing that it's a blind spot, and then

we've caught them. It'd be like a trap.

It'd be like the perfect trap to set up

for them, won't it?

Maybe I should tip them off. Wouldn't it

be funny if they came next time and I said

to them, hey, hey, you want to know

something interesting? There's a blind

spot over there. Next time you want to do

some shoplifting, What do you think

they'll say? Do you think they'll say,

well, what are you talking about? I'm not

going to shoplift. Or are they going to

say, oh, thanks, thanks, Daniel. We'll

keep that in mind for next time. But you

know why they paid back the money? It's

because they're scared. They know that we

phoned the police and that we banned them

from the store. So they're scared of

getting into trouble. So they decided to

pay the money back, but that doesn't

change anything. Just because they paid

the money back doesn't erase the fact that

they stole in the first place. They're

still banned from the store. We're still

not going to serve them. So yeah, well

done, well done, Irish ladies. You just—

you stole £40 worth of alcohol, you paid

back the £40, And now you're banned from

the store. Well done. Round of applause.

One-handed clap. It's always that lady

opposite. She's always connected. She's

connected to all of them. All of those

Irish thieves. She's like, she's like the

kingpin of them. Well, half of them are

her children. The other half are her

relatives, so She

seems okay. She always seems to be

getting her relatives out of trouble,

like paying the money back.

I don't know, maybe she's crooked as well.

Maybe she's just as crooked as all of

them. Also, I'm kind of

thinking about going to the Christmas

party. Then the poor guy, after we

finished our shift, we went into the

office and And the manager's daughter was

there, who also works there, and the 3 of

us were like chatting. It was kind of

strange for me. I don't just simply chat

to people. I get my bag and I go home. I

don't talk to anyone. But this time I

stayed for a bit, like 5, 10 minutes

longer, and then the poor guy asked me,

Daniel, are you going to the Christmas

party? And I said, I'm not sure. And then

the manager's daughter said, Of course he

is. What are you talking about? That made

me feel nice, like she wanted me to to go.

Well, I guess of course she's going to

want me to go. Why would she not want

someone to go to the Christmas party that

they're organizing? But it felt really

nice. Sometimes I need a

little bit pushing when someone invites me

somewhere. I need to feel like. I'm

wanted. If they just invite me casually,

I start thinking all these things like,

do they really want me there? Do I really

want to go? What if it's boring? What if I

just end up sitting there in the corner

twiddling my thumbs? But if someone's

like, Daniel, you have to come, it'll be a

lot of fun, then I start to feel like,

yeah, maybe I do want to go. Maybe it

would be fun. But it's going to be tough

because I'm working on the same night, so

it's— and it's in town, it's not near

here, so I'd have to get the train. And

apparently it's starting at around 8 PM.

I'm not sure how long it's going to go on

for, but I'd have to be at work at 1 AM.

I'm not sure why it's 1 AM instead of 10

PM like usual, but apparently I'd have to

be at work at 1 AM.

So I'd have to leave the party at 12-ish

to get the last train home. What if I

missed the last train? Then I'd be

screwed. I don't know if they're gonna

arrange transport for me or I'd have to

get a taxi. I've never gotten a taxi ever

in my whole life. I don't even know how to

do it.

And it'll be so tiring. I have to go to

this party And I'd only be able to stay

there for about 2 hours, and then I have

to leave and then start an 8-hour night

I do want to go, but it's just such a

hassle. It's a bit— it's

a bit of a pain in the ass. It's a bit

mendokusai, as they say in Japanese.

The sky isn't very impressive today. It's

alright. It's not as good as it was

yesterday. That might be because I'm out a

bit earlier. I don't want to get

interrupted again like last time, so I

came out half an hour earlier. I just

spent like an hour listening to my mum

talk about our family history. It was

actually quite interesting. Hearing about

all the stuff that my granddad and my

grandmother were up to sounded

like a pretty complicated history they

had. It was interesting, but when you're a

kid and you see your grandparents,

you don't really think much of them.

Well, I didn't. They were just— to me,

they were just like a couple of old people

that that were— that came over

our house sometimes. I didn't really

understand them. I didn't know their

stories or their struggles, and when they

died, I didn't really care, to be honest.

I didn't feel sad. It just felt like,

oh, they're not coming over anymore.

Okay. And now I've grown up and I listen

to my mum or my dad talk about them.

I feel kind of sad. They had such a hard

life compared to me. They had all these

struggles building a family, building a

home, and then they split up.

And it just goes to show everyone has

their own story. Everyone, everyone has

had something happen to them. Everyone has

their history. And it's, it's kind

of sad if you don't take any interest in

your own family's history. It's nice

to know these things because if no

one tells you, then you're not gonna know.

If your parents don't tell you about it,

who else is gonna tell you about it? It

just becomes like forgotten history.

Anyway, that, that wasn't what this video

was supposed to be about. I was gonna

title this video, Why Living in Japan Is

Great If You Have Social Anxiety.

I guess we could do that. I don't really

feel like it now. I just keep thinking

about my grandparents. Okay, okay,

we'll do the video. I promise. I plan to

make this video about living in Japan.

Okay, so one of the best— one of the

things I hate most about interacting with

people is probably, probably going to

restaurants and having to speak to the

waiter and order food. But in Japan,

so many restaurants, you don't have to do

that. They have like a little tablet, a

touchscreen next to the table, especially

in the pubs, the izakayas. You can go

there and there's a little tablet next to

the table and you just tap it. You can

choose what you want to eat, what you want

to drink, you just press order and then

the food comes to you. The waiter, the

waitress brings you the food. You don't

have to talk to them. And it's just

fantastic. And there's

usually English as well on the tablets.

And lots of restaurants are like this,

even the sushi restaurants, you know,

with the conveyor belts. You just take the

stuff off the conveyor belt, you don't

have to order anything. And then even the

sushi restaurants, they have a little

touchscreen tablet. So if you want

something fresh or something you can't

find on the conveyor belt You just tap it

onto the tablet and someone, a waiter

or waitress, brings it over to you. You

don't have to talk to anyone. It's

amazing. And then they have these chain

restaurants called, um, Sukiya and

Matsuya. There's another one with a really

long name that I can never remember.

Starts with a Y. And they have like

a ticket machine, like a train ticket

machine, just standing there in the shop,

in the restaurant. And you just choose

what you want and it prints off a little

ticket. You hand the ticket over to the

staff and they give you your

meal. It's like the best thing ever. I

don't know why more— I've never seen any

of that in England. In England, you have

to get the waiter over and then

you have to tell them your order and then

you have to ask for drinks. I hate it. I

always get my parents or my sister to

order for me. Or if I have to order

myself, I just point at the menu because—

ugh, it's just so nerve-wracking having to

speak to a stranger. Are you crazy?

And then there's trains. But everywhere

you go, there's ticket machines all over

the place. This probably isn't really

surprising for you if you live in the

city, but I live in the countryside in

England, and here at the train stations,

there's usually just one ticket machine.

In, in the town. And then in the villages,

they don't even have a ticket machine.

They have a man standing in the ticket

office, but he's only there from, from 7

AM until 10 AM or something during the

morning. You have to ask him for a ticket.

You have to say, can I have a return

ticket to blah blah blah? And I hate it.

I hate having to talk to someone. And then

if the ticket man isn't there, you can

just get on the train without buying a

ticket. You're supposed to buy a ticket

after you get off, but a lot of the times

I don't even buy a ticket. Don't tell

anyone that. I don't do that anymore

because I haven't gotten on the train for

years, so don't tell anyone, okay? But

sometimes they, um, they have a man

on the train that controls the train

stopping, you know, the person who drives

the train, I guess. But sometimes he walks

up and down the train with like a machine

and he'll ask, tickets please, and then

you have to buy a ticket from him. And

it's so nerve-wracking because it's like,

so is he gonna come? Am I gonna have to

pay for a ticket? Is he not gonna come?

I'm nearly at my destination, please don't

come. But once I was just about to get off

the train, I was standing by the door,

and then he came with his machine and he

said, tickets please, and I had to pay for

it. Bloody ticket. I was like, damn it,

if only you came 5 minutes later, I could

have gotten off and I wouldn't have had to

pay for a ticket.

So that's one of the reasons I don't like

it, because I don't like having to pay for

trains. That's really bad. Maybe I should

edit that out. But in Japan, you don't

have to worry about that. You just get

your little Suica card, top it up with

money, and beep it the barrier, you get on

the train, don't have to talk to anyone.

Yeah, I know London's the same, but I

don't live in London, do I? And the London

Underground is shit. It's dark and

dirty and all the— it's all really small.

The ceilings are really low. The ceiling's

all covered in cables and wires and it's

just so ugly. You go to the Japanese

Underground and it's just so modern and

clean. Everywhere looks sparkly and new,

apart from the Ginza Underground. That

place looks like shit as well. Looks like

London. What else

is good? I did have like a list of things

that I was gonna say, but then kind of

forgot. Also, in general, Japanese people,

they don't really talk to strangers.

They're very reserved. They keep

themselves to themselves. In England,

it's not rare for like a random person to

just say hello or good morning or how are

you. Or they call you mate. I don't even

know them. They say stuff like, alright

mate, how you doing mate? And it just

feels kind of strange. Like, mate is

something you'd say to someone who's your

friend, not to a complete stranger. I'm

not, I'm not really your mate, am I? But

it's nice at the same time. It feels

friendly, it feels human. Japanese people

can come across as a bit robotic and cold,

especially in Tokyo. Maybe it's different

in the country or southern areas where

people are a bit more open and warm.

But in Tokyo, everyone's like— they're a

bit like robots. They don't look like

humans. They have like this barrier in

front of them that keeps you away.

Especially when it comes to comparing my

job in Japan when I was serving customers

to my job in the UK, I realized English

people, they're so friendly and warm.

That's— they come into the shop 5 AM,

they're laughing like, good morning, how

are you? And then you just have like a

little conversation. Well, they try to,

and I usually fail, and then it becomes

really awkward. But they're just so

friendly and warm. I remember in Japan,

all the customers, they were just so— they

just looked like they're dead inside.

Like, they were so cold. They wouldn't

laugh or smile. They just look like, oh,

I want to die. That's probably why suicide

rates are so high in Japan. Everyone just

looks so depressed and like they have so

much work to do, that like they're so

busy, like there's no enjoyment in their

lives. And that really came across when I

was serving all these businessmen in, in

the konbini in Lawson. Tokyo just

made me feel like, damn, Japanese people,

you all need to go out and have some fun,

maybe work a bit less. You just look so

depressed, all of you. It's just like

Japanese people, they're so hardworking

and serious all the time that they don't

know how to, like, have a joke, relax a

little. Have some fun. I feel

like they're just too serious all the

time. But it's nice if you don't like

talking to strangers, you don't really

want to have to bother about— another

rabbit hole— then Japan's pretty good

because you probably won't get randomly

talked to by strangers. In the UK,

it's not really rare for that to happen.

But the thing I did hate about Japan was

when you go into any shop, they would

greet you. Like, they'd say irasshaimase,

and they just shout it at you as soon as

you enter the door. And I hate

it. It's just so irritating. I don't— at

first it's weird because you want to say

it back to them, like you want to say

hello back to them, but Japanese people

don't do it. They just ignore you. They

just pretend that they didn't hear it.

You don't really respond to it. And when I

was working in this convenience store, I

had to say it like 200 times a day. Every

time the bloody door rang and the customer

came in, I had to go, irasshaimase. It was

so irritating and I hated it. Like, the

first day of training at that job, they

kept saying my voice was too small because

I felt so stupid saying it. And then the

whole day was— I was just practicing

saying that. And then when the customer

came up to the till, you had to say it

again. You had to say irasshaimase, and

then you have to ask them like a bazillion

questions. You have to say, pointo kado

mochi desu ka? Do you have a point card?

And then you'd have to say, if they

brought like a box meal or a heatable

meal, you have to ask them if they want it

warmed up. Atatame masu ka? And then

they'd say yes or no, and then you put it

in there. And then you have to ask them if

they need a bag. I can't remember what bag

was. Like,

what was it? Fukuro? Rechi bukuro

irimasuka? Do you need a bag? And then

you give them the change. I can't remember

how you did the change. Like, imagine you

had 200— no, imagine they gave you 500

yen. You have to say, gohyaku en o

atsukari shimasu. I can't even remember

what it was. And then you give them back

the change. If it was like 200 Yen change,

you say "二百円の返しです," and then you ask them

they want the receipt. Receipto irimasuka?

It's like, oh, driving me crazy! So many

things you have to say to them. At my job

now at the petrol station, it's kind of

like that. I don't have to ask them if

they need a point card. I still need to

ask them if they have any fuel for their

car. Still need to ask them if they. Need

a bag. Still need to say £2.50 change

though. I guess in those regards it's

pretty much the same. But it's so nice not

having to yell at the customer as soon as

they enter the shop, like, hello, welcome

to the shop! Of course they say hello when

they come up to the till.

It's kind of rude not to. I guess you do

kind of have to greet them. In the morning

when they come, you say good morning.

But saying good morning is a lot easier

than saying irasshaimase. I just like the

sound. It's just easier to speak English,

obviously, because I'm English. And the

other thing I hated about it was having to

say thank you in Japanese. Thank you in

Japanese is so bloody long. It's like

arigato gozaimasu. It's 8 syllables,

and you have to say it really quickly

because the customer would just leave so

quickly. If you didn't say it fast enough,

you just get cut off. And then I couldn't

say it fast enough and I kept saying it

wrong. It's so difficult to say. It's

like, arigato gozaimasu. You just end up

giving up and you just squish it into— it

just becomes like a mumble. But in

English, you just say thank you. Thank

you. It's so easy to say. Even Japanese

people don't bother to say it properly. A

lot of the times when they say arigato

gozaimasu, they just say azu, azu. Or they

say good morning, ohayo gozaimasu. They

don't even say it properly. They say azu,

azu, azu. That's what the greetings

are like in Japanese because it just takes

so long to say the bloody words. Even the

Japanese people, they squish it into like—

just sounds like a snake at the end.

Well, the video topic kind of changed,

didn't it? I don't know what to title it

I just wish I could just put it as video

number 355, but then that kind of

lowers the chance of having the video

searchable. At least if I give it a kind

of, um, a video title

that people might search for. It might get

Things I Hated When I Worked in Japan.

Things I Hated About My Job in Japan.

That's pretty good, isn't it? Didn't I

already make a video titled that? No, I

made a video when I was in Korea called,

um, The reason why I quit my job in Japan.

Yeah, you should go watch that. It's not

very interesting though. I was, I was like

beginning to make videos and I wasn't very

confident. I wasn't very good at it.

Anyway, um, I don't know if I told you,

but I did order an LG G5 and

then I looked on my order status and it

said expected delivery October 20th?

That's ages away. I can't wait until

October the 20th. So I tried to cancel the

order and I ordered a different one which

cost almost £200 more, but I can get

next-day delivery. So I ordered that, but

then I got a reply from the first order

saying, sorry, we can't cancel the order

because we've already shipped it. You

should be getting it by tomorrow. You

should be getting it tomorrow by 1 PM. So

I was like, oh well, that's okay then.

Then I cancelled the, the last order that

I made on the £400 LG G5, which was

supposed to come tomorrow, which

successfully cancelled. But why does it

say that it's expected delivery 20th of

October when you just told me that it's

gonna— should be getting here tomorrow?

If I knew that it was gonna get here

tomorrow, then I wouldn't have cancelled

it in the first place. I'm so impatient

that I would happily spend an extra £100

just to get the item a few days earlier.

That's just what I'm like, you know, time

is— time is money. I don't even eat the

sushi. When I go to a sushi restaurant in

Japan, they don't just sell sushi. They

sell loads of stuff on the conveyor belt.

You see little bowls of noodles going

past, you see chocolate cake. They even

have like hamburgers. Not ham, not with

like a bun, but just the hamburger meat.

They even have bacon sushi.

Bacon sushi, it's not sushi, is it? It's

just a piece of bacon on some rice and

they call it bacon sushi. I don't eat the

proper fish sushi because I like the

salmon sushi and I like the, um,

What, what else do they have? I like the

little cucumber sushi, but all the other

sushi, the fish, it just tastes the same.

Raw fish tastes like nothing. It's like,

it's cold and it's slimy and it tastes

like the sea. That's what all sushi tastes

like apart from the salmon. Salmon has its

own distinct salmon taste, doesn't it?

Oh, you have to have the other fish? All

right. The tuna sushi is quite nice, like

that, that pinkish fish. What's it

called? Maguro sushi.

That's all right, I guess. But all the

other fish, like the octopus— oh,

that's disgusting. The white fish— I don't

even know what the white fish is. That

tastes like nothing. You just end up

putting soy sauce and wasabi on it, and it

just tastes like eating soy sauce flavored

rice. It just seems like kind of pointless

to me. The fried prawn sushi is quite

nice, but then that's just fried sushi—

that's just fried prawn on some rice,

isn't it? So whenever I go to sushi

restaurants, I just end up eating ramen

and bacon and rice and beef burger sushis,

which— it's not sushi, it's just— this is

a burger steak on a piece of rice, isn't

it? So if you just put something on top of

a small cube of rice, is it sushi?

Anyway, what was— oh yeah, the conveyor

belt. You know, in sushi places you have

the conveyor belt, but they also have a

tablet you can order stuff. And you know I

said the waiter brings it to you? It

doesn't. I was wrong. It's not a waiter.

A little train brings it to you. There's a

little track on top of the conveyor belt

Usually, and when you order stuff off the

tablet that's next to the table, a little

train comes along with the sushi on it,

and then you take your sushi and you press

the button to say, okay, you've got it,

and then the train just goes off, goes

around the table. It's amazing. Why don't

all restaurants have that? Then you don't

even need to have waiters or waitresses.

You just have a little train that delivers

your food. It's just perfect.

I've never seen that anywhere else. It was

just so funny. I don't

even remember the last time I went to a

sushi place. Last time I went to Japan

this year, I didn't even— I didn't even go

to a sushi restaurant because I didn't

make any friends. I didn't have like a

social group. I just don't know what I was

doing. It's such a shit Shit trip

to Japan 2016. Probably the worst trip

I've ever had to Japan. It was just so

boring. I didn't meet anyone. Well,

that's not true. I did have— I did meet a

few Japanese people. We went to— we went

to yakiniku, but it was horrible. They

only served guts. We had cow's tongue, we

had pig boobies, we had intestines.

Ugh. Everything was disgusting. You know

what it's like chewing on a tongue, on the

cow's tongue? It tastes like— it feels

like chewing on your own tongue. Just do

this. That's what it tastes like. It's

like you're kissing someone and you're

biting on their tongue. The last time I

went to sushi was 2014 with my ex-fiancée.

It's a funny story. We had to go to Beppu.

Which is in Kyushu. We had to go to

the hospital because we both got an STD.

Yeah, that was a fun experience. We both

got— we both got an

STD. We had to get that treated, so we had

to go to the clinic in Beppu to get

tested. Oh, that was such a horrible

experience. I might make a separate video

for that. We had to go there and we got

there really early and we were kind of

hungry and there's a sushi restaurant. It

wasn't even open. We were the first one

there and it opened.

We went in straight away as soon as it

opened. We were the first customers. When

we sat down, we were the only 2 people in

the whole restaurant and Yeah,

that was the last time I went to a sushi

restaurant, 2014. I didn't even eat the

sushi. I had ramen, chocolate cake, and

some bacon— bacon on rice sushi.

That was depressing.

The doctor said something like, you have

to stop having sex for a few weeks,

otherwise it's just gonna get transmitted

back and forth. You have to leave it, let

the antibiotics do its work.

It was so embarrassing. I had to piss in

this tube and then give it to this woman.

Then we did blood tests to test for HIV.

Luckily I didn't have HIV. It was so

scary though. We had to do a blood test.

She stuck a needle into my arm. It bloody

hurt like hell. Blood was coming out.

Anyway, I'll save that story for a

separate video. I don't even know if I

want to make a video about that. You know,

I'm very open. I don't find things very

embarrassing, but sexual diseases, that's

a bit embarrassing, isn't it? Maybe I

shouldn't go into too much detail. I've

already told you now, haven't I? I might

as well go into it later. Anyway, that

was, that was my only time that I visited

Beppu in Japan and I hated it. It was such

a shithole. Everyone says, oh, you have to

visit Beppu, it's amazing, the hot springs

are famous. I hate hot springs.

Hot springs are like the worst thing for

someone who has anxiety. Why would you

want to get naked in front of a bunch of

strangers and then sit in boiling hot

water? With a load of old naked men who

like look at you awkwardly. It's just— I

went one time when I was in Osaka, the

first time I went to Japan. There's this

bunch of stupid— there's this stupid

Japanese guy who was in the guesthouse

with us called Kei. I hated him because

he, for some reason, he hated me. I don't

even know why, because, because I didn't

say stupid Japanese words like itadakimasu

before I ate stuff. He got all pissed off.

He was like, oh, you have to say

itadakimasu before you eat, otherwise it's

rude. It's not rude for me, it's rude for

you. I don't understand why Japanese

people can't eat anything without having

to say itadakimasu. Even when they're

eating on their own, there's no one around

them. You can, you can see them, see them

mumbling. They'll sit down and they'll go

itadakimasu and then they'll start eating.

There's no one around you, you don't have

to say it. Ugh, Japanese people just piss

me off so much sometimes. And then me and

this Korean guy, we were making curry for

them, and then the Japanese guy came back

from work called Kei and some others, and

we sat down to eat the curry. And then I

don't think he knew that I was helping

making the curry, and he was like, oh,

it's not good. Daniel shouldn't be eating

the curry with us. He didn't— he didn't do

anything. And then the Korean guy defended

me. He said, no, Daniel helped me make it.

It's fine. The Japanese guy was still

mumbling like, uh, blah blah blah blah

blah. Stupid Kei. Oh, I hate him so much.

Anyway, he dragged us all off to onsen, a

hot spring, and I was too embarrassed,

but I did it anyway. But they gave me a

towel to wrap around my privates, and I

was the only one there walking around with

a towel wrapped around my privates.

Everyone else is just walking around butt

naked. It was disgusting. I don't want to

see other men's butts or their penises.

Luckily, I'm short-sighted and I had to

take my glasses off and I couldn't see it

anyway. I don't even know if you could see

it. Japanese men have such tiny penises

have magnifying glasses. Yeah, that's what

Beppu is famous for, the hot springs.

Apart from that, it's a shithole. It's

just everywhere's so hilly and all the

buildings are are so crammed. It's like a

really old town, and you can tell all the

roads are really narrow and windy. Every

time a car comes, you have to stop and

stand by the road so you don't get run

over. And there's just something that felt

so depressing about the place. It felt

like stepping back in time 60 years.

There were hardly any people around. All

the houses look like abandoned and falling

falling apart. It's like no one was there,

like a ghost town.

We didn't stay there for very long. We

went back to the train after visiting the

clinic, went back to Oita.

Oita-shi. I quite like Oita in Kyushu. It

was a very small town, city, but it was

very modern, clean. It had everything that

Tokyo has. But like shrunk down,

like a tiny version of Tokyo. It's like

tiny Tokyo. And right by our apartment,

there was this massive river. You just had

to walk for 5 minutes, you can get to the

river. And it was so nice, it was so open

and wide. You just go there, have a walk,

and there'd just be like a load of old

people sitting down chatting, little

school kids jogging up and down. I really

liked it there. And then you go to the

train station and they had all like the

shopping area, shopping district,

and they had all the supermarkets.

And there's this big library. Library had

free Wi-Fi. That's where I taught my

English student. I can't remember her

name. I think it was— I can't remember her

name. Oh look, it's the moon. Can you see
