First time in a cat cafe in Japan

Hey, today we're going to a cat cafe where

there are cats and it's gonna be fun. Oh,

look at his cute little face, he's so

cute. I just wanna— sorry, I'm just

practicing what I'm gonna do when we get

to the cat cafe. So if you want to see

some house updates, I have recently

purchased a Qi wireless charger

for my phone. Look, let me get my phone.

You just put your phone on top of it and

it's supposed to— oh, there it goes. It

takes a little bit of time to actually

start charging. It's a bit hit and miss.

Hey, so it's the next day and I'm back

from the cat cafe. So yesterday I decided

to go to a cat cafe because I saw other

YouTubers make videos about cat cafes and

I saw that they got views and I also

wanted some views for my channel. My

YouTube channel, and I asked my wife if

she could look up some cat cafes, and we

went to one yesterday, and I had a really

bad— I had a really bad time. I had a

terrible time at the cat cafe, and you're

probably going to think I'm really silly

after you hear the reasons why I had a

terrible time. And the reasons why I had

such a terrible time was mainly because of

my social anxiety. And if you're a normal

person and you went to the same cat cafe,

you wouldn't have any problems like I did.

So yesterday I asked my wife to look up a

cat cafe because I thought she would know

better than I did. And we went to a cat

cafe in Osaka, and as soon as we entered

the room, the problems started to begin.

We entered the room and I began recording

videos, and I didn't realize, but I had my

light on. You know, the flashlight on the

back of phones? I had that turned on by

accident. I must have pressed, pressed the

button by accident to turn it on. And the,

the guy behind the table, the counter,

came up to me and he, he asked me to turn

something off, and he caught me off guard,

so I wasn't quite sure what he said 100%.

I thought he wanted me to stop filming,

so I put my phone away, and as I was

putting it away, I, I realized that my

flashlight was on and I was blinding all

the cats with the flashlight.

And I felt so embarrassed. I felt really

silly because all these people were

sitting at the entrance, uh, with the

cats, and they all looked up at me, and I

felt like they were staring at me, and I

felt really embarrassed about it. My face

started to get really hot, and I, I guess

it went red, and I started sweating. And

it didn't help that I was wearing a

t-shirt plus my checkered shirt plus a

fairly thick hoodie, and the room was

quite warm. I was boiling. Anyway,

we went into the room and I felt really

disappointed because it's called a cat

cafe and I was kind of expecting an actual

cafe, you know, with wooden tables and

seating and chairs and maybe waiters.

And there would be cats wandering around

and they would jump up onto the table and

you could pet and stroke them and take

photos with them. But it was nothing It

was nothing like that. It was just a room,

a pretty bare room with a load of cats and

a sofa and some cat furniture and some cat

toys. That was it.

I didn't know what to do. I didn't know

where to go. I didn't know where to stand.

My initial reaction, my first instinct was

to go to the corner of the room as far

away as possible from all the other

people. I couldn't sit on the sofa because

the white guy was sitting on the sofa, so

I instinctively went straight for the

corner and I just kind of stood there

awkwardly filming a cat that was sleeping.

It would have been nice if there were some

extra seats in the middle of the room or

at the side of the rooms. Most of the cats

were around the Japanese girls. There was

a group of young Japanese girls and my

wife went over by them to play with the

cats, and I didn't want to go near the

Japanese girls because They were kind of

talkative and chirpy, and I was kind of

worried that they might start talking to

us if I went near them. My main problem

with these Japanese girls was that a few

of them were actually a little bit cute,

and one of them was wearing a very short

skirt and you could see a lot of her legs.

And the problem with young cute girls is

it makes me even more nervous because I'm

a guy with an active sex drive. I think I

was kind of worried that the cute girls

might start talking to me and then I might

actually enjoy talking to them. And my

wife would get jealous, and then I'd get

into trouble. I'm actually kind of scared

of strangers coming up to me and talking

to me. That's why when I'm outside, or

when I was living at the guest house, I

used to make myself look unfriendly. And

that was because I wanted to make myself

seem less approachable so people would be

less likely to just come up to me and

initiate conversations. I started to get

flashbacks of when I was a young boy,

When my mum used to take me to playschool,

which is basically a big room where a

bunch of kids get dropped off by their

parents and they play with each other and

there's toys and there's a few teachers.

And it's the school kids go to before they

begin proper actual school. And I used to

hate it so much. It was really scary. And

I would cry and I would actually beg my

mum not to leave me. And I'd get her to

stay with me for the entire day. Whilst

all the other kids were playing with each

other, I'd be sitting there with my mummy

like some kind of pathetic loser. And I

was just absolutely terrified of being

left alone at playschool with all these

other weird kids. And for some reason,

being at the cat cafe kind of reminded me

of that feeling of being in a room full of

strangers. Luckily, I had my wife with me,

so I didn't feel completely abandoned. I

just followed my wife around sheepishly.

The atmosphere at the cat cafe was really

strange because we were all strangers. We

didn't know each other, and we were in

this tiny room playing with cats together,

and I wasn't sure if we were supposed to

interact with each other or were we

supposed to just ignore each other. It

kind of felt like going to your friend's

house, and at your friend's house there's

a bunch of people and you don't know who

they are and you don't know if it's okay

to talk to them. And it's just really,

really awkward. You have no idea how

uncomfortable I felt. It was so awkward.

I just wanted to, to leave straight away.

Okay, so the next problem I had were the 2

white people that were there. Now, I don't

want to sound racist, but I feel extremely

uncomfortable making videos and talking in

English when there's white people around,

or black people around, or non-Asian

people. Because, because they'll be able

to understand what I'm saying. I'm not

sure where that white couple from the cat

cafe were from. They were speaking really

quietly, so I don't think they were

American. They were speaking so softly I

couldn't even hear if they were speaking

in English or not. And I was worried that

if they heard me talking in English whilst

making a video, they might come up to me

and say hi. And like I said before,

I'm terrified of strangers coming up to me

and starting conversations. So this meant

I couldn't speak during the entire time

that I was making videos or the entire

time that I was at the cat cafe. I was

worried they might hear me and go, hey,

that guy's speaking in English, let's go

over to him and say hello. Please, please

don't. I don't know who you are. You're

scary. I didn't even get to play with the

cats much because they weren't very

interested in coming up to me, and they

were all flocking around the Japanese

girls because the Japanese girls had cat

snacks and they were feeding them cat

snacks. And we paid for, for an hour at

the cafe, paid about $12 per person to

stay there for an hour. But after about 15

minutes, I was getting bored and fed up

and I gave up trying to make videos and I

said, let's go, let's go home. And we

left. And I felt so, I felt so

mentally drained and mentally exhausted

from the whole experience. I I just wanted

to go home and bury my face into a pillow

and maybe even have a little cry. I know,

sad and pathetic. I've seen videos of cat

cafes before and I thought, hey, that

looks fun, and I wanted to experience it

for myself. I was so disappointed. I was

hoping to make a nice, fun, cute video of

cats and my wife, but instead I had a

terrible experience. And I really didn't

enjoy it. So if you also have social

anxiety and you enjoy torturing yourself,

give it a try. Try going to a cat cafe.
