Why I regret buying the Samsung Galaxy Fold

This is my Samsung Galaxy Fold.

As you can see, there is a massive crack

on the corner.

See if I can zoom in.

And there's 2 very small cracks that go

from the corner all the way up to the

side. And this is

the first time I've ever dropped and

cracked one of my phones before, and I

think this is a problem the Samsung Galaxy

Fold has. It's just kind of heavy.

I was sitting at a table and I

accidentally knocked it and it fell from

the table onto a concrete surface. And if

this was a regular smartphone like my

Samsung S10+, I don't think it would have

cracked like this. And the reason why it

cracked is because the Galaxy Fold is just

so heavy that when it falls from such a

height, uh, it's going to crack. So it's

been about 6 months since I bought my

Galaxy Fold, and I thought I'd make a

follow-up video talking about what I think

of the phone. Do I still like it? What

it's like using it after half a year?

And I think my main problem with the

Galaxy Fold is the weight. It's just kind

of heavy. If you want an idea of how heavy

it is, get 2 regular smartphones and then

hold them together in one hand. So

basically the Galaxy Fold is like 2

smartphones sellotaped together back to

back, and that results in a pretty heavy

phone. And I stopped going outside with my

Galaxy Fold mainly because I didn't like

the way— I didn't like the feeling of

having this big heavy object in my trouser

pocket. I don't know about you, but when I

go outside, I don't like having lots of

big bulky things in my pockets. When I put

on my jeans and I go outside, I usually

just have my wallet, which has my credit

and debit cards and some cash. And then in

my right-hand, right-side pocket, I have

my phone. And I was going outside with the

Galaxy Fold a lot in the beginning, but

then I realized that it's kind of annoying

having this big bulky thing in your

pocket, and I'd rather just have a smaller

phone like my Samsung S10+. And I really

noticed that I much rather prefer to have

a smaller phone when I'm going outside.

Instead of a big bulky one, and that's

when I stopped using my Fold outside. And

the other problem is when you drop the

phone, because it's so heavy, the impact

it's going to have on the ground is going

to be double the impacts that a normal

phone or a lighter phone is going to have.

And you might be thinking, well, why

didn't I just put a case on the Fold? And

there are cases for the Fold, but they

look kind of weird and stupid since the

Fold is a bit of an awkward design to put

a case onto. I don't like using cases

because I feel like one of the reasons

you choose the phone that you choose is

because you like the design, and the

design team put a lot of effort and

resources and energy into making a

good-looking phone, and it just seems like

a waste to cover that phone up in plastic

or rubber. I always find it kind of

strange when you see people who have

nice-looking phones and they just cover it

up in a case. What's the point of getting

a nice-looking phone if you don't even

enjoy the design. So that's why I don't

use a case and I feel confident with my

ability to not drop my phone. I've never

dropped a phone and broken it before until

now, until this Galaxy Fold. I've dropped

my phone before, but they've never cracked

because they're not really heavy and it

really shouldn't have cracked. It only

cracked because number one, it's so heavy,

and number 2, it's made out of glass.

It's kind of stupid they make phones out

of glass. I don't understand what this

obsession is with glass. For example,

when I was working in a petrol station

before, a stupid customer dropped a wine

bottle and the whole thing shattered on

the floor. Now, if the bottle was made out

of plastic, there wouldn't have been any

problems. But no, wine is supposed to be a

premium product, so they have to use glass

because somehow premium associated with

glass. So all phones are made out of

glass, which is like the most fragile

material in existence, and then you drop

that, obviously it's gonna crack. Now the

weird thing is the inside screen of the

Galaxy Fold is made out of plastic because

it has to bend, and there's absolutely

nothing wrong with it. It works perfectly

fine as a screen. I can't even tell the

difference between a plastic screen and a

glass screen. So I don't understand why

they have to make the outside of phones

out of glass that cracks. Maybe they do

it on purpose to get you to buy a case or

get you to replace your phone, because a

lot of people are clumsy and they're going

to crack their phones and then they're

going to have to pay to get it repaired or

replaced. Maybe it's like a tactic of the

phone industry to make these really

expensive objects out of such a fragile

material to get people to waste more money

on fixing it in case it cracks.

Instead of getting a case to stop the

phone from cracking, I'd rather get a case

afterwards to hide the crack after the

phone's cracked. I guess that wouldn't

really work very well if the crack is on

the screen. Fortunately, my crack was on

the outside on the corner, and there are 2

little hairline cracks on the exterior

screen, but I don't really care about that

because you can barely see them, and I

don't even use the outside screen that

much. Well, I do sometimes, but not a lot

of times. I'm still not sure if I regret

buying it. I mean, it was quite a lot of

money. Would I like to have that money

back now? Um,

yeah, I would actually, because if I could

magically get back £2,000, then I can get

a different phone. I don't know. At first

it was exciting to use and I was really in

love with the phone for maybe the first

few weeks. Afterwards you get used to it

and it's not really exciting anymore. And

it doesn't really feel that special. And

now I just kind of use it as a tablet.

And I'm thinking to myself, I already had

a tablet, had an iPad, had an iPad Pro

that I stupidly left behind in England.

And I wish I brought it with me. I'm not

sure why I didn't bring it with me. It

barely weighs anything and it's really,

it's really thin. I thought that I

wouldn't be staying in Germany for such a

long time. I thought I'd just be there for

a few weeks. And then I go back home to

England. So I didn't really feel like I

needed to bring the iPad. But now it's

been 2 months and I'm still here and I'm

thinking to myself, it would be nice to

have a big iPad, a big tablet.

And I could ask my mum or my sister to

send it to me, but I don't know, it just

seems like it would be a bit annoying for

them. I'd have to ask them to wrap it up,

put it in a box, go to the post office.

Post it to my Airbnb, and then what if it

gets lost in the post? And then how do I

even accept the delivery? It's kind of

confusing. I'm not really sure how to use

the entrance door system. I guess it'll

ring the doorbell and then I'll have to go

downstairs to collect it. I'm not sure why

I think it's such a big problem getting

stuff delivered here. I guess it's because

I don't really want to have to deal with

the delivery man. Also, if they stopped

making the phones out of glass and they

just made it out of plastic, the phones

would be so much lighter. Do you know how

heavy glass is compared to plastic?

Why doesn't anyone just make a bloody

plastic phone? It'll be— it'll be cheaper

to make, it'll be so much lighter. If you

drop it, it's not gonna crack. It just

doesn't make any sense why they chose

glass. This is a genius idea. Someone make

a plastic phone, please. So right now I'm

trying to decide if I want to buy another

tablet or do I want to buy a laptop,

because I am starting to think maybe I do

need a laptop. If I had a laptop, I'd be

able to use the blurring tool on YouTube,

which would have come in handy a few days

ago, but I'm not sure if I'll need to blur

anything again. Ideally, I wouldn't have

to use the blur tool again, and I'll be

clever enough not Not to get myself into a

situation where I need to use the blur

tool, but you just never know in the

future what could happen. And having a

laptop, what else could I do on it? I

guess I could play Rainbow Six and I could

play video games on it as well.

Right now I'm playing Fortnite on the

Switch and that's fine and everything,

but it is a bit uncomfortable using a

controller to play Fortnite and the screen

is kind of small. But then I'm starting to

think, what kind of laptop would I want to

get? I could get the new MacBook Pro, but

then MacBook Pros aren't really made for

gaming. I could get a proper gaming

laptop, but then they're kind of bulky and

big, aren't they? And not very

streamlined. And then I feel like it's a

waste of money because I already had a

gaming laptop and I decided to ditch it in

Japan, didn't bring it with me. Oh,

and then about the Surface Duo, do I still

really want that? I mean, it's basically

just 2 phones stuck together side by side.

Do I really need another phone? I've

already got 2 phones that work perfectly

fine, apart from one's got a big crack in

the corner now, but it doesn't really

matter. I guess the question is,

do I really want to get back into PC

gaming? Because right now I'm finding

myself with a lot of free time, a lot of

spare time where I'm not actually doing

anything. And I'm just playing on my

Switch all day long, and I'm guessing it

would be nicer to have a bigger screen and

a proper gaming device with a mouse and

keyboard. That would be better.
