the Apple Magic Mouse is a waste of money - DO NOT BUY

Hey, so I've been using the Magic Mouse

for a few days and I've come to the

conclusion that it is rubbish and it's a

waste of money and I'm very disappointed

with it. So this is why I don't like it.

Number 1, when I'm moving the mouse

around, the speed of the cursor is very

inconsistent. So you move it around like

this and it just seems really sluggish,

and then the faster you move it, the

faster it goes. It's weird, it's like it

has to build up momentum before it starts

speeding up. Why can't it just stay at the

same speed no matter how slowly you're

moving the mouse. Sometimes I want to move

the mouse slowly like this, but look how

slowly it moves.

It just feels weird compared to the

trackpad. The trackpad just feels a lot

better, which completely defeats the

purpose of getting the mouse in the first

place. The whole reason I wanted the mouse

was because I thought it was supposed to

be better than a trackpad. Most people

would agree that a mouse is supposed to be

better than a trackpad. One of the biggest

annoying things about this Magic Mouse is

sometimes the cursor doesn't do anything.

Right now it is working. Let me zoom in.

So usually when you hover the cursor over

an app, the cursor disappears and the app

icon enlarges. Sometimes it doesn't do

that and the cursor just hovers over the

app And even if you click, nothing

happens. It's kind of random, so I'm

unable to show you that because right now

it is working properly, but it does happen

quite often and it's annoying. The only

way to fix it is by using the trackpad or

just tapping on the screen. The other

annoying thing is not all of the gestures

work with the Magic Mouse. You can do

one-finger slides like this. You can do a

2-finger slide down to bring up the search

box, but you can't do this.

You can't do the 4-finger slide up. You

can't do the 4-finger slide left and right

to switch between apps like this,

which is something I do a lot. It's really

helpful.

It's really helpful to be able to switch

between apps like this. It just makes

everything so much quicker. Look at this,

I can just speed my way through

all of the apps I want to use, close them

down, open them back up, bring them back

up, minimize them. You can't do that with

the mouse. When you're using the mouse,

the way you minimize it is you either

click on the little white bar at the

bottom like this and then it will go down,

or you just keep scrolling the mouse down

like this. You keep pulling it towards the

edge of the screen and then it will go

down, which is kind of uncomfortable

because look, it'll first get stuck,

it'll bring up this little bar at the

bottom and it'll get stuck, and then you

have to pull it down again and then it

will close. It's just a little bit

cumbersome and there's no way— well, not

that I know of— but there's no way to

switch between apps like you can do with

the trackpad like this. You can't

do that. If there's a way to do that,

then I would love to know how, but I've

tried everything. I've tried swiping

whilst the cursor is on the bar, I've

tried bringing up the little bar and then

swiping left and right, nothing happens.

You can't do a 4-finger swipe on the

mouse, that doesn't do anything. Uh, what

else? If you want to bring up an app on

the side of the screen, usually what you

would do on the trackpad is swipe into the

side like this to bring it out, and then

you can switch between apps like this.

Oh, those are my messages, better not show

those. How about this one? Yeah, you would

swipe, 4-finger swipe like this to switch

between the side, the side window apps,

but you can't do that with the mouse. You

would have to— hmm, how do you do that?

You have to click on the little bar at the

bottom and then drag it whilst holding

down the click button like that, which

feels a bit annoying. And then to, to put

away the side panel, the side window, you

have to push the mouse into the side

of the screen like that. And then to bring

it back, you push it into the side. It

just doesn't feel good. It doesn't feel

comfortable like it does when you use

trackpad or just with your fingers on the

screen. And that is the problem with the

Magic Mouse. It doesn't feel comfortable

to use. The clicking sounds are too loud.

Listen, I don't like that sound.

And it's weird because the whole top of

the mouse is a button. Usually with a

normal mouse, you would have a line across

here and then 2 buttons separated. But

when you press down on the mouse button on

the Magic Mouse, the whole thing moves.

You can feel— I can feel it in the palm of

my hand. Look,

you can feel it moving in this area

because the whole material of the top

of the mouse is the button. There's no

segmentation for the separation of the

buttons. So when I'm clicking, I can feel

the whole thing moving in the palm of my

hand. It feels very— it just feels

uncomfortable. So what I do is— can

you see? I use it like this. I hover my

hand over it so my palm isn't in contact

with the top of the mouse, which doesn't

feel very good, but it seems to be the

best way to do it without moving— without

feeling the movement of the entire mouse

on your palm. The good thing about the

trackpad is, although it also makes a

clicking sound like this,

you can go into the settings and make it

so you just tap to click. Look, I'm

clicking now by just tapping. I don't

actually have to push the trackpad down to

activate a click. And you can just

silently use it like this, which is great.

Look, I'm using the mouse to highlight

words without making any sound. On the

Magic Mouse, you can't do that. There's no

silent tap. If you tap the mouse, nothing

happens. You have to click it down like

this,

like that. It's really annoying just

hearing click, click, click. Click,

click, click all the time, and there's no

right button. What you do is you— hmm,

it's weird.

Yeah, it's very strange because there's no

right button, there's just one big button.

So if you highlight a word and you want to

copy it, you use your middle finger and

you click on the right side of the mouse,

and somehow it magically knows that you're

trying to do a right-click, but it doesn't

always work. Look, it's not working now.

I'm trying to bring up the menu to copy

this word with my middle finger, but for

some reason it's not realizing that I'm

trying to do that and it's just

deselecting it. So it's not very accurate

in that regard. When it comes to gestures,

the only thing you can do is 2-finger— no,

it's actually one finger. Yeah, you can do

2— I mean, one finger side swipe to go

backwards and forwards on a web page, and

you can do scrolling by rubbing it.

That will do your scrolling, and then

backwards and forwards would be swipe left

and right, which is okay, but it would

have been nice if 2-finger swipe up would

minimize the apps and 2-finger swipe left

and right should switch between different

apps. I don't know why they didn't decide

to do that. And it's like they just forgot

about the whole app switching like

this. So it's a bit of a disappointment.

I think the Magic Mouse was primarily

intended for Mac users— MacBook Pros,

MacBook Airs, iMacs— and I feel like,

um, being able to use it on the iPad Pro

was just an afterthought from Apple, and

they just kind of winged it. They did a

fairly good job, but not a perfect job. I

just don't really see myself using this

mouse anymore because the trackpad is so

much better, and I can just fly through

the different apps I use with the trackpad

so much faster and efficiently than I can

do it on the mouse. So it's just a waste

of money if you're buying it to use with

an iPad. I would not recommend buying the

Magic Mouse for, for an iPad. Maybe it's

good for a MacBook. Maybe I'll give it to

my sister for her Christmas present. Um,

yeah, waste of money, overpriced. It's

just a mouse at the end of the day, but it

was €100. You can get a cheap mouse which

will do the same thing for about €20.

Also, the charging port is in a really

stupid place on the underneath, so you

won't be able to use the mouse whilst it's

charging. So make sure it's fully charged

when you're sleeping or something. Yeah,

really disappointing. The trackpad is so

much better. So much nicer to use, and I

just wasted more money. So thanks for
