Why I HATE the Switch OLED

Hello and welcome back to a new video. So

I've been in Thailand for a few weeks now,

and as a travel gamer, I needed to buy a

handheld portable gaming device to fulfill

my gaming needs as a gamer who also enjoys

traveling. And at first I decided that the

Steam Deck would be a good idea as a

portable gaming device, but unfortunately,

after doing some vigorous testing with the

Steam Deck, I found that to my conclusion

it was too big and bulky for my backpack.

So I decided to tinker with the idea of

playing with a Switch OLED, considering

the fact that the Switch OLED is much

smaller and slimmer in its profile

compared to the Steam Deck, which is a

very bulky and big device in comparison.

Unfortunately, after playing with the

Switch OLED for a few weeks as well, I

have to say that it's not exactly the

ideal device as a travel gamer, and I

ended up having to resort to going back to

my gaming laptop to do gaming. Now, I have

a 17-inch Razer Blade Pro gaming laptop,

which is pretty good for gaming, as you

may expect. The problem with it is it's

kind of big and bulky, and I wasn't really

expecting myself to be whipping it out

very often on my travels in Thailand. So I

thought the Switch OLED would be the

perfect gaming companion. Unfortunately,

it hasn't really lived up to my

expectations, and you could say it's

rather lacking in lustre and not quite up

to my standards. I found that I haven't

really been using the Switch OLED as much

as I would have liked, and it's not really

worth the money considering the amount of

time that I'm using with the Switch OLED

compared to how much time I'm spending on

my laptop. I might as well just have stuck

with the gaming laptop and not really

bothered about bringing a handheld gaming

console such as the Steam Deck or the

Switch OLED. So you might be wondering,

why don't I like the Switch OLED anymore?

Why don't I play it very much? And the

main problem would come down— would have

to come down to a lack of games.

Now there's a lot of games on the Switch

OLED, but 99% of them are rubbish games,

and the other 1% of them are okay games,

but they don't really run very well. So

for example, I really like Cult of the

Lamb, and I was really pleased to find out

that it's on Switch as well. But for some

reason, whenever I play Cult of the Lamb,

it seems to be really laggy, and The

Switch OLED really shouldn't have any

problems running a game like Cult of the

Lamb because it's a very basic looking 2D

game. When I tried playing Cult of the

Lamb on the Switch OLED, it was just

really laggy and unresponsive, and it

seems to have severe frame rate issues

even though I've got pretty good internet

connection. And I'm pretty sure the Switch

OLED should have no problems playing a 2D

game like Cult of the Lamb. It was really

rather shocking. And also when I tried

playing Mortal Kombat Ultimate on the

Switch OLED, the frame rates just wasn't

very smooth. I found it very difficult to

find any online matches, and it was just a

very poor gaming experience in general.

Recently, there's a lot of these cloud

gaming games, like, uh, there's Resident

Evil 2 and 3 on Switch now, but they're

not actually on Switch. They're just

available to be— to play as a cloud gaming

game. But the problem with cloud gaming is

unless you have a very good internet

connection, it it's not going to be a

great gaming experience. Now, even though

I'm using a 5G data SIM card to use as a

hotspot to play online games, I just

cannot get a good connection with this

cloud gaming concept. And when I tried to

play Resident Evil 2, it was just a

lagging, stuttery mess, and graphics were

really bad because it had to be set down

to a lower graphical fidelity because of

my connection not being stable enough.

And it was just a really poor unsatisfying

gaming experience. I don't know why they

just don't put the full game of Resident

Evil 2 or 3 onto the Switch. Maybe the

Switch is not powerful enough to play

those games, so why don't they just put

like a lower res version of it on the

Switch, or even maybe just put the

original games that came out in the '90s?

Because Switch should definitely be able

to handle a PlayStation 1 or 2 game.

Also, it's really difficult trying to find

games that you would enjoy on the Switch

because you can't really trial a lot of

the games. Sure, there's some games that

have a demo version and that's great and

everything, but Nintendo AAA games do not

have a demo version. I don't know why

Nintendo are so scared of releasing demo

versions with stuff like Pokémon or Zelda

or Mario games. There's no demo version,

so you just have to go in headfirst, take

the plunge, and spend £60 Which is just an

eye-watering expensive amount of money to

be able to put onto a game that you don't

even know if you're gonna like it or not.

I don't know if I'm gonna enjoy games like

Luigi's Mansion or Pokémon games because

I'm not really a big fan of those games.

I've never really played those games

before, so I have no idea what to expect

or whether I'm gonna like it or not. But

I'm not gonna risk £60 on seeing if I

like the game or not. At least let me try

the game out before having to make such a

big commitment. It just seems kind of

weird that Nintendo doesn't provide a demo

version with their AAA games. It's like

they're not confident that their games are

any good. They think that, oh, if we let

people try a demo, then they'll realize

that our games are not that great, and

then they won't spend the £60 on buying

the game, and then we're missing out on

£60 that we could have gotten if they

decided to buy the game instead of just

try out the demo. It's like they're scared

of losing potential customers by offering

a demo version. I play a lot more games on

Steam, basically mainly because of the

fact that I can try games. I can download

games and pay for them, but if I don't

like them, I can refund the game within 2

hours. And 2 hours is a lot of time to be

able to try out a game and see if you like

it or not. I think it would be really nice

of Nintendo if they could offer the same

kind of service. I would like to be able

to try some of the most popular Switch

games like Super Smash or Luigi's Mansion

or even Splatoon, but I just don't really

think I would like them enough to want to

have to pay that amount of money. Maybe if

I could try a demo version, then I could

see if I would like the game, because if I

did like the game and I was hooked on the

game, I would have no problem with

spending the £60. I would feel as if the

£60 is worth the money. So as of right

now, the only game I ever play on the

Switch is just Mario Kart 8, and that's

because it's a really fun game. It's very

simple to get into, but there's still

quite a lot of skill required. And really,

it's a real shame because I really like

the OLED hardware. I feel like the

controllers feel great. I really love the

look of the OLED. It's really nice with

the kickstand. The screen is amazingly big

and bright, and games look amazing on it.

It's just there's no good games for it. I

can't find any games I really enjoy

playing on Switch, and I'm not willing to

take the risk of losing a bunch of money

on buying games that I don't think I would

probably not like. So I don't want to take

the risk and buy some AAA Nintendo games.

Even if they might be good, I mean, I

might be missing out on a lot of fun

because they don't offer a stupid demo

version or a trial version, and they don't

offer refunds. So how am I going to find

out if I like the game or not? I could

watch review videos on YouTube, but

watching a review of a game is not really

the same as playing the game yourself.

It's not really the same experience.

So for those reasons, I don't really feel

like I made a good decision buying the

Switch OLED. I don't really think it's a

great travel gaming companion. As a travel

gamer, I just don't understand why you

would bring a Switch OLED or Steam Deck

instead of just getting a gaming laptop.

I mean, you can get smaller gaming

laptops. You can get a 14-inch AMD chip

Razer gaming laptop, and they're pretty

good and very portable, and they're even

fanless, I think, with these new AMD

chips. They don't even have a fan in it,

and they're really thin and lightweight.

I think if I lost all of my equipment,

had to buy everything back again, maybe I

won't buy the 17-inch gaming laptop

because it is pretty big and heavy. And

maybe I'd get a smaller, lighter weight

gaming laptop like a 14 or 15-inch,

because I just think there's never going

to be a time when you can't slot a laptop

into your backpack, and the amount of

space you save by just bringing a Switch,

it's not really worth the amount of money

that you have to spend on one of these

devices, and it's definitely not worth the

amount of games you miss out on by not

having Steam and only being able to buy

games off the Switch Nintendo Store. So

unfortunately, I can't really recommend

buying a Switch OLED if you're thinking of

buying one as a travel gamer or a travel

person who wants to do a bit of gaming on

the go. I think you would be better off

just getting a gaming laptop.
