why I Hate Among Us - terrible game

Hello and welcome back to another video

game review. So today I want to talk about

Among Us. You've probably heard of it

already. It's— for some reason it's

insanely popular and every single bloody

YouTuber seems to be playing it right now.

It's kind of interesting because just a

couple months ago there was this other

game called Fall Guys which was really

popular, and now people just kind of

ditched it and now everyone's playing

Among Us. And I tried it myself and I

think it's a load of rubbish. It's a

terrible game. It looks like a cheap

crappy game some university student put

together in about 15 minutes, and there

really isn't much to the gameplay. It's a

really boring game to play, and I

really don't understand why everyone's

raving on about it. So first of all, let

me just explain to you what the game is

about in case you haven't played it and

don't know what it's about. So you're on a

spaceship and there's 10 players And one

of the players, or it could be 2 or 3

depending on the options, depending on the

settings of the game, but usually it's

just one. There's one imposter out of the

group of 10 people, and the imposter's

goal is to try and kill the other players

without getting detected. So the other 9

players will be going around the ship

fixing broken stuff because the ship has

broken down and you've got to do repairs.

And whilst you're doing repairs, one of

the other players, the imposter, will try

and kill you. And if you get seen killing

someone as an imposter, then you look

suspicious and the other players will vote

against you if they think it's you. And

the person who gets voted out gets kicked

out of the spaceship. And if the imposter

gets kicked out, then it's game over and

the non-imposters win, the imposter loses.

But if they kick out a non-imposter, then

the game carries on going and they've

accidentally kicked out the wrong person.

And the reason why I don't like this game

is because when you play as As a normal

crewmate, not as an imposter, the game is

incredibly boring. So what do you do as a

crewmate? You just run around the ship

doing these stupid little minigames to fix

the ship. So one of them is wiring, and

you just drag the colored lines to match

up with the colored lines. It's not

challenging or difficult at all. It's just

really repetitive, mundane tasks that you

have to do in order to fix the ship.

Other minigames include tapping on a

targeting system to destroy asteroids.

You just tap on the asteroids and they get

destroyed. Other tasks include pulling

down a lever to flush out leaves.

These tasks are really stupid and boring.

They just involve tapping or dragging

something. Another one, you have to get a

little scanning keycard and then you swipe

it across the scanner to scan it. It's

just really annoying having to do these

tasks. It's not fun at all. But if you're

the imposter, then the game is actually

quite interesting because it's more of a

challenge trying to eliminate the

crewmates one by one without getting

detected, without being noticed. It's a

bit like playing Metal Gear Solid. I don't

know if you remember the game Metal Gear

Solid. It was really popular back in— when

was it really popular? Early 2000s, when I

was about 10 years old. It was really

popular, and that was a stealth game where

you had to sneak around taking out guards

one by one without getting caught. And,

and, and when you play Among Us as an

imposter, it does have that kind of vibe.

You're sneaking around, you're sabotaging

things on the ship, trying to take out the

other players. And if you're not good at

it, then you'll get caught easily.

They'll, they'll catch you in the act, or

they'll think you're acting suspicious.

And then every time a body is found, you

can report the body, and then there's a

meeting. And during the meeting, all 10

players, 10 people, can chat to each other

and decide who is the imposter and vote

against who they think the imposter is.

And communication is very important here

because you need to make sure people don't

think you're the imposter. So if you just

keep quiet or you seem suspicious, you're

going to get kicked out and lose the game

fairly quickly. My other problem with the

game is when you get killed by the

imposter as a crewmate, you would think,

oh, that's a really bad thing, game over.

Now I've got nothing else to do for the

rest of the game, might as well just quit.

No, you're wrong, because when you get

killed, you get turned into a ghost, and

it's actually better to be a ghost than

being alive, because even as a ghost, you

can carry on doing the stupid repair task

minigames. But the thing is, you can move

way faster as a ghost, and the ghost can

also move through walls and doors, so

you're not really obstructed by anything.

If you're alive, the imposter can sabotage

the doors so you get locked in certain

areas. But as a ghost, you don't get

locked in anywhere. So it makes you kind

of feel like, what's the point of trying

to avoid getting killed when actually

getting killed and becoming ghost is more

beneficial? The only downside to being a

ghost is you can't talk anymore during the

emergency meetings. So if you see anything

suspicious, you can't tell the other

players about it because you're dead. The

problem with becoming a ghost after you

die is, although it's great you can do all

your tasks without getting disturbed or

interrupted, you start thinking, well,

what's the point of this? You start to

stop caring about the game because you've

already died. You can't really vote. Your

opinion doesn't matter anymore because you

can't even chat anymore. All you can do is

go around doing the stupid, boring

minigame repair tasks. And usually when I

die, I start to feel like, what is the

point of playing this anymore? And I

usually just leave the game and join a new

game because that's more interesting than

just doing minigames. As a crewmate, I

find it very, very difficult to actually

care about winning the game because you

don't really benefit or get anything out

of it. You could win the game and it just

feels like, ah yeah, okay, we won. It

wasn't really challenging. I didn't really

help towards winning, and you don't really

get anything after winning. I think a good

idea would be if they gave you some kind

of in-game currency after you win a game,

and then you could use the currency to, I

don't know, level up your character. You

could maybe increase his speed or give him

some perks, some special abilities, or

maybe just some outfits or costumes or

physical appearance. Bonuses that you

could get from getting coins in the game,

but there's nothing like that. And it just

makes you feel like, what is the point of

even trying to win the game when it's not

even fun and it doesn't even feel

challenging? And I also think it's way too

easy to get killed. If an imposter wants

to kill you, then all he has to do is tap

one button. It's not even risky for him.

There's no challenge, there's no combat

system. And if you're being targeted,

there's not really anything you can do.

Even if you know you're getting chased and

you're about to get killed, there's no

shield, there's no block, there's no way

you can really escape. If, if he's decided

he wants to kill you, then you're pretty

much dead and there's not much you can do

about it apart from running to the other

players and hoping that they'll, they'll

be able to witness his murder so he

won't actually do anything because he

doesn't want to get caught. So yeah,

anyway, there's lots and lots of problems

with this game. I feel like there's lots

of potential that could be there to make

the game way more fun, way more better,

way more in-depth. But at this current

stage, I just feel like the game is way

too basic. Doesn't really feel challenging

or rewarding to win. And it's just stupid

how, how popular it is right now. All over

YouTube, everyone's just making these

stupid Among Us videos. I saw one random

channel had 73 million views on some kind

of animation of the game he made. And I

have to say, it does— it did look pretty

good. It looks like he was actually

playing the game, but it wasn't. He made

this Among Us but with 100 players

video, and it was all animated. I don't

know how he did that. It must have taken

ages, but he got 73 million views in

2 weeks. And then he made a follow-up

video called Among Us but with 99

imposters, and that had 24 million views

in a single day. That's just insane, and

it shows you how, how unbelievably popular

this game is. Actually, I was on the tram

the other day and I could hear the sounds

of the game. You know when you log into a

new game, it makes that weird high-pitched

whistling sound? I could hear that behind

me. Oh yeah, my other problem with the

game is It's kind of glitchy at the menu—

menu screen when you're trying to join a

game. It keeps saying matchmaking is full,

please try again later, and I keep trying

to join a game and it won't let me join

it. Sometimes I have to shut down the

game, restart it in order to be able to

get into a new game. Otherwise it just

keeps saying matchmaking is full. It seems

like changing your server to a different

continent solves this problem. I guess the

European servers are pretty full most of

the time. But I don't understand why they

can't just make more servers. That would

be a good idea.
