Top 5 Mario Kart 8 Tips and Tricks for beginners

Ahem. Hello and welcome to my top 5 Mario

Kart 8 tips. I will give you

tips on how to play Mario Kart 8 that

you might not know if you've just started

playing the game. Um, okay, so tip

number 1: did you know that There's

certain combinations of cars and tires and

parachutes that make your car better. I

don't know what these combinations are

because I was too lazy to Google them,

but you could Google them and then find

out what the best combinations are. I like

the big pink car with the monster truck

wheels. I don't know if that's any good,

but it makes me feel really big compared

to the other players. And I like that,

makes me feel superior.

It's quite interesting because there's

quite a lot of little tricks you can do in

this game that aren't that obvious, and

I've been playing it for a long time and

actually still find new tricks I didn't

even know about. For example, I recently

found out that you can launch projectiles

behind you, not just in front of you.

I'll show you how to do that later when we

get a projectile thingamajig. Oh, I was

about to show you how to do the starting

boost, but I missed it. Well, when it's

counting down from 3, 2, 1, if you hold

down accelerate when it starts counting

down from 2, then you do get a little

speed boost. But if you start too early,

then your engine blows up, and if you

start too late, then it won't work. So

that was tip number 2. The speed boost at

the starting line. Uh,

what was my next tip? Oh yeah, when you're

jumping off these ramps, as soon as you

launch up into the air, and if you press

the right shoulder button, you get a

little speed boost. Watch, I'll show you.

So we're coming up to a ramp, press— see,

he does a little trick and you get a tiny

speed boost. Watch, I'll do it again. You

see that? That's quite handy.

See, you get this little flash that

appears around your character. Whoops, I

fell off the edge. That took me ages to

find out. I didn't even know you could do

that until months after playing the game.

have another trick, but I can't remember.

I was going to do the slipstream trick,

but I'm so far behind everyone. So the

slipstream trick is when you drive

directly behind another player for a

few seconds, and then you get a speed

boost. I think this is supposed to mimic

real-life physics, where if you go behind

a large object, the air resistance gets

reduced and you go faster.

And that's replicated in Mario Kart.

you how to do it.

Oh,

well, maybe I don't actually have to show

you. I mean, it's pretty simple. You just

drive behind another player for a few

seconds, and then this special effect will

happen around your car. It kind of looks

like wind flowing by either sides,

and then you do that for a few seconds and

then you get a speed boost.

Unfortunately, I'll try and show it to you

if I get the opportunity to.

Oh, I'll show you the boost here.

See, did you see that? Pulled it off

perfectly. When it starts counting down

from 2, press A to accelerate.

And no, don't press it, hold it down and

you get a boost. Oh look, I just did the

slipstream thing. Can you see? Can you

see? You just stay behind other players

for a few seconds, you get this massive

boost. It's pretty good. I'll try and

do it again. Ah, too slow.

So basically any kind of projectile like

the turtle shells or the boomerang,

um, you can shoot it behind you, not just

in front of you. That took me ages to

figure out. And I'll show you how to do

that when I get one.

Another star. This is typical. When I want

a projectile, it won't give me one.

Oh, another trick is when another player

is doing that bullet thing, when they fly

past you, you'll get a little warning at

the bottom of the screen. When they're

near you, and then you can get out the

way. Just try and stay out of the center

of the road and you should be fine. Same

thing applies for the blue spiky turtle

Still don't have any projectiles. Oh, I

have the blue shell, but you can't shoot

that behind you. That will go forwards and

it will hunt down The person who's in

first place. I can't get any power-ups.

I do apologize for this. I think the

race is going to end without even getting

one. Yes, it's ended.

next race. Okay, here we go. Hopefully I

can get a banana this time and then show

you how to shoot it. Behind you. It's not

difficult, you just aim down using

the left thumbstick and then, um,

you, you use the shooting button.

I missed the stupid power-up. Oh my God.

Well, I can show you the power sliding

trick. If you keep power sliding for long

enough, there's 3 different levels

of boost,

and the longer you hold down the power

slide button, the better

the boost you get afterwards. I'll try

3rd one is a purple boost,

so it's really a good idea to drift

as long as you can.
