DO NOT BUY Lenovo Legion Go - In-Depth Review

So Lenovo has also decided to join in with

the Windows-based handheld gaming consoles

with the Legion Go, Lenovo Legion Go,

which I think is kind of rubbish and

stupid compared to the ROG Ally, which I

believe to be the superior Windows-based

handheld gaming device. I don't really see

myself really wanting the Lenovo Legion

Go. Number one, I don't like the name,

it's kind of hard to pronounce, and its

main gimmick is that you can detach the

Joy-Cons controllers from the screen in

the same way you can detach them from the

Switch OLED, which I never do by the way.

But the good thing about the Switch OLED

is you detach the Joy-Cons and then you

can attach both of the Joy-Cons to a grip

and then turn it into a controller.

Lenovo seems to have forgotten this aspect

of having removable Joy-Con grips. They

haven't made a grip, which is kind of

stupid. It seems like the only point of

removing the controllers from the Lenovo

Go is to turn the right controller into

like a joystick mouse thing, which looks

really rubbish. I don't know why you'd—

why would you want to use that instead of

just using a proper mouse? If you've got a

desk with a mouse pad, why don't you just

bring a mouse? A mouse is not big. Look,

this is how big my mouse is. I would just

bring this with me if I wanted to game on

the Lenovo Legion Go instead of using that

weird joystick thing that you slide around

on the table. Isn't that really weird? I

can't imagine using a mouse instead of

flat ways, using it like that. That must

be so bizarre. And then the left Joy-Con

controller is to move the character around

and use the directional buttons. So you've

got the left controller in your left hand,

and then you've got the joystick thing in

the right hand. That's just like a really

weird way to game. I wouldn't want to do

that. Why would you want to do that over

using a keyboard and a mouse? So the price

of the Lenovo Legion Go is actually the

same price as the ROG Ally. It's going to

be $700. So it's kind of hard to compare

the 2 devices. They also have the exact

same CPU, which is the— both seem to be

using the Z1 Extreme chip. So in terms

of performance and gaming power, it's

going to be exactly the same since it's

the same internals. I think the screen on

the Lenovo Legion Go is slightly bigger

but barely any difference. So it really is

hard to decide which one to get if you

don't have either of them and you've got

$700 waiting to blow on a handheld gaming

device. I still think the ROG Ally looks

way better. I mean, look at this lovely

white and black design. It's way more

comfortable with this hand grippy bit

here. I mean, if I was gonna sell this,

or if I didn't have this and I had to

choose between this and the Legion Go,

the Legion Go seems tempting because it

has a kickstand and you can detach the

controllers and you're left with basically

what is just a screen that runs Windows.

It's basically like a touchscreen computer

that is quite powerful, more powerful than

tablets, and it's got a own little

kickstand. If you pair it with a little

keyboard and mouse, then you've got a very

portable laptop replacement there with the

controllers removed. But other than that,

I don't really see a benefit. I mean,

the screen is slightly bigger, the screen

is slightly brighter, but I don't think

these are going to be noticeable,

noticeable differences. I think 99% of the

time you're going to be playing the Legion

Go just like this with the controllers

attached. You're not really going to

detach the controllers because That would

be silly. If you're at home, then

obviously you're gonna have a keyboard and

mouse, and then you're going to plug the

Legion Go into a big monitor and use that

as like a big gaming setup, and you

wouldn't use the little detachable Joy-Con

joystick thing. And then when you're

traveling or you're using it as a handheld

device, you'd be using it in the exact

same way that I'd be using the ROG Ally.

So I don't really see how they're very

different. The only difference is the

design. The Lenovo Legion Go has a very

bland and boring black design with very

minimalistic look, whereas ROG Ally has

more of that gamer aesthetic, if that's

what you're into. Like the, the sharp

angles and the hexagon kind of shapes on

the buttons and the corners are more

gamerish. So I guess if you prefer this

look, then you might want to go for this

instead. But apart from that, I don't

really see why the Legion Go is better if

you don't think you're going to use the

kickstand. You can just buy a stand like,

like one of these cheap stands, put the

ROG Ally in it. I never really— I mean,

having a built-in kickstand could be nice

because then I wouldn't have to use that

plastic thing, and then I could detach the

controllers. If I really wanted to,

which I probably wouldn't want to. So in

conclusion, I kind of feel like the Lenovo

Legion Go is a pointless device. They

basically just ripped off the ROG Ally—

exact same internals, same chip, same CPU.

The only gimmick or thing they have that

makes them stand out apart from— away from

the ROG Ally is the fact that you can take

off the controllers. But then what's the

point of buying a handheld device if

you're not going to hold it in your hands

and you're just going to use it as like a

tiny little 8-inch touchscreen Windows 11

device, which you could do. The Legion Go

is also much bulkier and much larger of a

device, so if you want something a tiny

bit more portable, then ROG Ally would be

the way to go.
