Feeling depressed, lonely and bored - Life in Germany sücks

Just a quick update on my Germany trip for

those of you who haven't been able to see

the livestream. To be honest, not really

much is happening. There's nothing really

to update you on because nothing's

happened. Um, today, what did I do today?

Well, I walked around for hours and hours

and hours trying to find a place where I

could buy a sandwich. Finally found a

place where I could buy better sandwiches

than the ones I was buying before.

Germany is very, very inconvenient because

there are no convenience stores anywhere,

and if you just want to go into a shop,

pick up a sandwich or a packet of crisps,

it's really difficult. And it took me ages

to find any shops where I could just buy a

sandwich. It's like people here don't

really buy convenience food or ready

meals. They go into either a cafe or a

restaurant, or they just go to one of the

fast food chains like McDonald's or Pizza

Hut. And if you know me at all, you should

know that I, I absolutely hate ordering

food, or I hate having to talk to someone

to be able to get my food. I can't stand

going into a shop and having to tell the

person what I want to eat. I'd rather just

go into a shop, pick it— pick up the item

off a shelf, and then place it on the

counter and then pay. That way I don't

really have to say anything. And it's just

so difficult to find a shop where I can do

that because all they have here are those

bakeries where a bunch of old people sit

outside or restaurants. I don't want to go

into a restaurant because then I have to

order food. So I finally found this chain

of shops called Ryu— don't

know how to pronounce it— Ryu To Go.

And they sell— they sell what I'm looking

for. I got a sandwich, BLT,

and I got another sandwich. I got another

sandwich, but I already ate it. And I got

a beer. Beer's quite good.

Krombacher. And I got this

salmon sandwich, and I got an Innocent

super smoothie so I could get some vitamin

C. I think I'm a bit deficient on vitamins

because I

also got these dumpling gyoza, Japanese

gyoza things, which are quite good.

There's one other shop that I found where

they sell sandwiches called Edeka, but the

sandwiches there aren't very good and

there's not much variety. Apart from

sandwiches and these horrible dry stale

bagels that they sell, they just sell

vegetables and bread and cereal and frozen

food and stuff in jars, which aren't

really very useful to me. And in general,

I'm feeling depressed, tired, lonely,

really, really bored. Don't know why I

came here, and I don't really like

Germany. I think the main thing I dislike

about this place is it's just so

inconvenient when you want to go and get

food. There's no convenience stores

anywhere. I don't know why German people

don't like convenience stores, but I'm

used to Japan where you, you can't walk 5

minutes without walking past a convenience

store, and the convenience stores in

Japan, they sell really good food.

There's no 7-Eleven in Germany, there's no

Family Mart, there's, there's nothing.

There's maybe a few shops here and there

that I went into, but all they sell are

drinks and chocolate bars and maybe some

crisps. They don't have sandwiches, they

don't have food in a plastic box that you

can just eat without cooking or heating

up. I went into a petrol station and they

didn't even have sandwiches. All I bought

was a Capri Sun. And for the last few

days, I have been eating sandwiches every

single day for breakfast, lunch, and

dinner. I'm not joking. I'm eating at

least 2 or 3 sandwiches or chicken wraps a

day, every single day, and I'm just so

sick of it. I found a supermarket and I

went into there, but they didn't have

anything apart from vegetables, fruit,

frozen food, raw meat. They didn't have

any sandwiches or any ready meals that you

could just eat straight out the box. And

then I got trapped inside of the

supermarket because the entrance door only

opens from the outside. You can't exit via

the entrance door. You have to go past the

cashier and then walk past the payment

section and then go out the exit. But I

couldn't because I didn't want to buy

anything and I felt stupid walking past

the cashier without actually paying for

anything. I felt like they might think

I've shoplifted or something. So what I

did was I just stood by the entrance

waiting for someone else to come in, and

as they came in and the doors opened, I

quickly slipped out. And then I wanted to

go and buy moisturizing cream because my

face dries up after I've washed it, and I

haven't used moisturizing cream since I

got here, and my face has just felt so

stiff because I haven't moisturized it.

So I went to a shop and I bought this. I

had a feeling it was moisturizing cream

because I know this brand, but it's all in

German, and I didn't have internet because

it was underground in some kind of

underground shop. But I guessed correctly

that this word,

Feuchtigkeitscreme,

probably meant moisturizing cream, and I

was correct, so I felt pretty good about

this purchase. It's so funny how

ridiculously long German words are. Look

how long it is. You could barely fit it

on the bottle. The German language is kind

of interesting because even though I don't

know any German, I can kind of guess what

certain things mean. For example, I'm

guessing this means skincare for men.

Let me know if I'm correct. I guess

there's a few regrets I have when it comes

to the things I packed. I wish I didn't

bring the Blue Yeti microphone because it

weighs a ton and I can just livestream on

my phone perfectly okay. I thought I

wanted to bring the Blue Yeti so I could

stream off my laptop, but it's not really

important. I am very glad that I got the

15-inch instead of the 17-inch because

it's a lot easier to pack and carry

around. It's a lot more portable, and I'm

very glad I got it because Rainbow Six has

been such a huge help,

helping me to fight off boredom. I've just

been playing Rainbow Six most of the day,

basically. So you might be wondering, why

come all the way to Germany just to sit in

your hotel room playing Rainbow Six all

day? And I guess the answer to that

question would be basically because

there's not really much to see or do out

there. I walked around for hours and hours

and hours, and the best I could find was

The best I could find was a nice river and

a nice park. Apart from that, well, there

is a really big river called the River

Rhine, which is quite pretty. There's a

lot of bridges, and there's this really

big old-looking church, which is quite

nice to look at. Apart from that, there's

nothing really special out there. And then

people keep saying to me, oh Daniel,

you're in a boring part of Germany.

That's why you need to go to this place

and that place because it's so much more

interesting. But what do you mean by

interesting? What exactly is interesting

about those places? The only difference is

there's going to be maybe bigger

buildings, more buildings, more people,

more cars. That's not interesting to me.

The only thing that would have been

interesting would have been if the German

girl didn't ditch me at the hotel.

That would have been interesting, but

unfortunately Sometimes our plans don't go

to plan. My current plan right now is I'm

going to check out of this hotel tomorrow

and then book myself into another hotel.

I know I'm wasting so much money on

hotels, and I don't really know what else

to do because I don't have any other

option. Airbnbs aren't any cheaper. The

only time an Airbnb is cheaper is if

you're staying for 4 weeks or more, then

you get a monthly discount, but I'm not

staying here for that long. I'm going to

be meeting a Turkish girl who watches my

channel, uh, in about a week's time,

so I have to wait until then, until she

comes to Germany to meet me. She seems

quite nice. She's 23, comes from Turkey,

and some of you might be thinking, hold on

a minute, Daniel, Aren't you worried that

the same thing would happen again with

the— the same thing as the German girl?

And I really don't think the same thing

would happen again after it's already

happened the first time. What are the odds

that the exact same thing would happen

with a different girl the second time?

The odds of that happening are extremely

low, so I do feel pretty confident and I

feel pretty good about the Turkish girl.

Hope she's nice. So I'll see how that

goes, and then my next plan is to go to

Spain in May because there's someone else

that I'd like to meet. And then after

Spain— I won't stay in Spain for long,

I'll probably just stay a couple days— and

then after Spain, I think I'm just gonna

go home, back to England. I'm not sure if

I'm gonna stay in London or if I'll just

go back to my mum's house. It's weird

calling it my mum's house now. It always

used to be my parents' house, but I guess

I don't have parents plural now. I don't

know, I just don't think that living

abroad in Europe was— is as

good as I imagined it. It's not all it's

cracked up to be. And if I had to choose

between England and Germany, I'd say

England blows Germany out of the water

just when it comes down to the convenience

of how easy it is to get a sandwich. In

England, we have so many convenience

stores and little supermarkets. We have

Co-op, Waitrose, Tesco Express,

um, petrol stations, and then you have all

these other corner shops run by Indian

people. We have Spar, Mace, and they all

sell— guess what? They all sell amazing

sandwiches. BLT, sausage and egg, chicken

and lettuce. I just don't

understand why it's so difficult to get a

bloody sandwich in these countries. I

thought Malaysia was bad, but at least

Malaysia had 7-Eleven. I would even say

Malaysia is better than Germany because at

least Malaysia has 7-Eleven and

convenience stores here and there.

Germany has nothing. I walked around for

hours and hours and hours and hours around

all these streets, and all there were were

these ugly old buildings and apartment

blocks and cafes where a bunch of old

German people were sitting outside No

convenience stores anywhere. It's just so

inconvenient. It's just so silly

that in the entire city of Düsseldorf that

I'm in, I've only managed to find a total

of 2 shops that sell sandwiches and

food that I can easily purchase. Apart

from those 2 shops, when it comes to

buying food that I can purchase easily,

the entire city is just rubbish.

Also, the shops don't give you— don't give

you plastic bags unless you ask for them,

and I don't really want to ask them

because I'm not really in the mood to talk

to people. So if I go shopping, I can't

buy a lot because I have to carry it in my

hands, so I keep having to go back to the

shop every day. And I haven't changed my

socks since I got here, and they smell—

they smell pretty cheesy. But I like the

smell of my own feet, so I'm not really

complaining. I just don't really see the

point in changing my socks when I'm all by

myself and no one would

even notice.

I got a couple invites from people,

mostly guys inviting me out to go for

drinks or to hang out, and it's

very kind of you, but I don't really feel

like it I don't know,

maybe I should. I do feel pretty lonely in

here all by myself. I don't really know

what I was expecting from my new life in

Germany, but I guess this is it. It's not

really much different to my life in any

place that I go to. I just end up sitting

here playing games, making videos.

Also, on Sunday none of the shops are open

and they ring church bells for ages and

it's really loud and annoying. I didn't

realize German people were so religious.

Also, customer service isn't great here.

The staff aren't very friendly looking,

they don't really say anything to you most

of the time, and they just dump your

change on the counter and then you have to

pick it up one by one. I'm used to Japan

where they carefully, politely place the

change into your hand. They don't give you

a bag, and if you ask for a bag, they They

don't bag your items, you have to bag your

own items, and they do everything so

quickly and you just feel rushed. And then

as soon as they've finished scanning your

items and giving you your change, they

don't even wait for you to pick up your

stuff and to go before they start scanning

the next person. And I don't like it. I

don't like feeling rushed. I'm frantically

trying to pick up all my stuff and my

coins, and then she's already scanning the

other person's items and chucking them

down the conveyor belt thing, and then I

feel like they're waiting for me to hurry

up and get lost. And then this stupid

person— stupid people keep walking up and

down the corridor outside the hotel room

talking. Why can't they go into their

rooms and talk? Why are people so rude?

And I also think German people are a bit

short-tempered, a bit aggressive. I was

walking along a pavement and I didn't

realize that the brown bricks on the

pavement are for cyclists. And I heard

ringing from behind me, and I saw a bike

coming from behind me, and I thought he

would just go around me, but I was walking

on the brown bricks, and then he was still

coming towards me, so I quickly moved out

the way. And then as he rode past, he

muttered something in German. Sounded— he

sounded angry. It sounded like something

scheiße something, and I know that's a

swear word in German. Okay, it was my

fault. I was on the brown bricks. They

That was the cyclist lane. I didn't

realize. Maybe they should make it more

clear that it's a cyclist lane. But you

don't have to swear at me as you ride

past. In general, I feel kind of

intimidated by the people here. I don't

know, the men just look very rough-looking

and big and short-tempered,

and I'm very careful when

I'm walking around to make sure I don't

get in anyone's way. I don't know, maybe

it's just my social anxiety speaking, but

they kind of— the people here, they kind

of seem rough, unrefined. They look like

they work hard down at the coal mines and

then enjoy beers in the pub on the weekend

and then have street fights in the street.

I just feel kind of out of place here, to

be honest. And everyone's huge, and it

makes me feel very small. I guess you

could say the men here are very macho

looking, which makes me feel insecure. In

Japan, I didn't really feel insecure

because, well, Japanese men aren't very

macho looking, are they? Yeah, I guess you

could say I do kind of miss Japan after

coming to Germany. Japan— Japan's

a good country, isn't it? Why did I leave?

And this is my dinner for tonight. I have

a BLT sandwich, and for

dessert I have KitKat. And then

I need to pack and go to the next hotel,

so I'll see you there.
