THIS is why the Asus ROG Flow X13 DESTROYS the ROG ALLY!

Hello, welcome back to a new video. So

I've been using this brand new ASUS ROG

Flow X13 gaming portable convertible

laptop for about a week now, and I think

it's probably the best portable gaming

device I have ever owned. I used to have

the ROG Ally, and I was blown away with

that, and it was really good for the price

point, but I wanted something with a bit

more power, and this cost about $1,000

more than the ROG Ally did when it first

came out. So this cost a total of $1,700

And yeah, it's quite an expensive device.

It's quite an expensive level up or step

up compared to Steam Decks, ROG Allies,

or Windows handheld-based devices. But

what you get is a lot of power and a lot

of variety and versatility and

compactivity. And this is just overall a

superior device compared to the ROG Ally

or the Steam Deck or basically any

handheld gaming device on the market right

now. So if you've got the money to spare,

I would definitely recommend picking one

of these up. Now for the specs, we have a

13.4-inch display with 60/165Hz

display rates, and we've got RTX 4050 with

Ryzen R9 7940HS with 16GB

of RAM. So as you can imagine, with a

built-in discrete GPU like the RTX 4050 in

combination with the R9 7940HS, you've got

a really powerful beast mode laptop that

just blows anything out of the water when

it comes to handheld gaming devices.

Like, the ROG Ally, okay, is the most

powerful handheld out of all of the

handhelds with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, and

that was a good— pretty good chip for

mobile gaming devices, but it just cannot

compare to the Ryzen R9 7940HS

paired with the RTX 4050. This, you can

play games on this on ultra settings,

even modern AAA games. You can play high

settings or maybe even ultra settings if

you really want to push the system. The

graphics are so good on this, so I'm going

to show you some gameplay of the games

I've been playing on ultra settings. So

one of the coolest things about the ROG

Flow X13 is that it has different kind

of modes you can put it into. So here we

have the easel mode, or kind of like

reverse tent mode. You can see the

keyboard is lying face down on the table,

and this is completely okay because the

intake fans are on the other side and

they're pointing upwards, sucking in that

air and blowing it out directly at you

because the fans are going to be expelling

air from where the hinge is and also on

the side. So the airflow is completely

unrestricted, unblocked, and you can get

some good gaming experiences out of this.

For example, you can plug in an Xbox

controller and you can put it into this

kind of tent yoga mode where you get the

keyboard out of the way. It's kind of

annoying playing on a laptop with a

controller when you get the keyboard in

the way because that forces you to move

the laptop further away from you. With

this setup, you get the keyboard at the

back and you can bring the screen closer

to you, which results in a bigger viewing

experience. So here I'm playing Red Dead

Redemption 2 on basically ultra settings,

nearly everything set to ultra, and I'm

getting pretty good FPS. Zoom in so you

can get a better look, and you can just

see how the gameplay looks really smooth.

The colors are vibrant. The screen is not

as good as like a MacBook Pro's Mini LED

screen, but it's still pretty good for an

LCD panel. It's not OLED either, but it's

got good colors and it's got a range.

It's got about 500 nits of brightness,

which is completely adequate if you're

indoors. If you're outside in harsh

sunlight, then maybe it'll be a bit hard

to see, but come on, who's going to be

gaming outside under direct harsh

sunlight? At least sit in a shadow or

something. So yeah, Red Dead Redemption 2

runs really well on this device. I'm

really impressed with it. And then we have

another mode where it's basically just

tent mode. Okay, so here we have it in

tent mode, which is basically the same as

the other mode, but this time we've kind

of formed it into a triangle with the

keyboard facing on the back with the fans

facing inwards. So maybe the air intake

flow is not going to be as good as the

other mode, but it should be fine because

you've got a lot of space in between the

screen and the body of the laptop. So

again, this is a great mode for bringing

the screen forwards closer to you so you

get a bigger screen experience whilst you

play with the controller. You can also use

this kind of mode with an external

keyboard if you don't like the built-in

keyboard. You get an external keyboard and

put that in front of you and just flip it

over can bend it inside out, put the

screen closer to you, and get the main

computer body and keyboard— just get that

out of the way.

And it's just really nice, it's really

cool how you can flip it into these

different modes thanks to the

ultra-flexible hinge. And coming from an

ROG Ally, this experience with portable

gaming is just so much better. Number one,

you get this massive 13.4-inch display,

which is huge compared to the 7-inch

displays found in Steam Decks, ROG Allies,

and other handheld gaming devices.

Obviously it's not as big as a 16-inch or

17-inch laptop, so in the world of

laptops, yes, it is on the small side,

but I don't see that as a bad thing

because if you want to slot this into your

backpack, maybe you're going on a quick

trip and you want to stay in a hotel but

also bring quite a powerful gaming device

with you, then this is a great choice

because it will fit, it will fit and slide

easily into your backpack and you can just

set it up on your desk in the hotel room.

Yeah, sure, you can't handheld game with

this, you can't really sit on the bus

playing with this. I mean, technically

could, but you'd kind of stupid. And I

think, yeah, why would you want to do

handheld gaming? I think handheld gaming

is like a last resort when you can't do

anything else. When you've got a desk and

table, you would always want to choose

keyboard and mouse gaming, or at least

controller gamepad mode gaming, over

handheld mode gaming. I just cannot

imagine any situation where I'd prefer to

do handheld gaming instead of using a

controller or a keyboard and mouse. And I

don't see myself in any situation where I

can't just put this up onto a table on

onto my desk. The only situations where

you wouldn't be able to play this is if

you're on the bus or you're in a car, or

maybe you're waiting at the bus stop and

you just want to whip out some gaming.

And if that's the case, then I'm just

gonna say you should be able to take a

break from gaming for at least a couple

hours whilst you're traveling on transit

or in a bus or outside. Come on, can't you

just wait until you go back home, until

you get home, to switch on your computer

and do some proper gaming? Are you really

saying to me that you're so bored of

taking a bus for like 30 minutes or

sitting on the train for 20 minutes that

you can't even last 30 minutes without

staring at a screen. Just go on your phone

or something. Do you really need to be

sitting there on the bus or in the train,

on the underground or the subway,

whipping out your Steam Deck or your ROG

Ally to play some, I don't know, PC game?

It's just, come on, this is getting silly.

Can't just wait until you get home or just

like wait for 20 minutes check the news or

watch some YouTube whilst you're on the

train. I don't really feel like I

necessarily need handheld gaming in case,

oh, I'm so bored because I randomly got

stuck outside and I need handheld gaming

right now. So yeah, I'm completely fine

with losing the handheld gaming

portability aspect of having an ROG Ally

or Steam Deck because I never really want

to do handheld gaming anyway. I always

have it on a table plugged into my monitor

keyboard and mouse. And then when I'm out

and traveling or, you know, on public

transport, I don't really want to game. I

mean, who's going to want to sit there and

try to enjoy some gaming whilst you're on

a bumpy bus or packed subway? It's just

not really the ideal location to be

gaming, and I'd rather not be gaming and

just wait until I have some good quality

time at home or in a room like a hotel

room. That's when I might feel bored

enough to whip out the gaming stuff. I

don't really feel like I miss handheld

gaming, and I never wanted to handheld

game ever. The only times handheld gaming

is better is maybe racing games, because

basically racing games just uses about 4

buttons: steer left, steer right,

accelerate, and brake, and maybe

handbrake. There's really minimal controls

when it comes to racing games. But any

other genre of gaming, keyboard and mouse,

or at least a gamepad controller, is so

much better. Handheld gaming is just like

a last resort if you desperately really

want to game, and I'm not really one of

those people, so I don't really understand

it. I did like the ROG Ally. I pretty good

and very portable and light, but I'm just

finding so much more value with this ASUS

Flow X13 with the bigger screen, built-in

keyboard, and it's just like a really nice

laptop that doubles as a really powerful

gaming device. So I'd recommend this over

the ROG Ally basically any time of the
