An update on my Dad’s situation

Okay, so this is just a quick update

video. Sorry, it's a bit of a sloppy

video. I'm not really in the mood. I don't

really have the time to make a proper,

proper, properly made video. So long story

short, we're going back to England.

Tickets are booked. We're going to the

airport today. It's about 5 AM in the

morning right now. My dad's really ill.

He's really, really sick.

He's in the hospital.

Last Sunday or Saturday, he got the flu.

He fainted on Sunday. He got taken to the

hospital and he's plugged into life

support and all that stuff. Basically, he

has sepsis, and because of

the sepsis, he also has multi-organ

failure. His kidneys failing, his lungs

are failing. Worst of all, his liver is

failing, and they've also put

him in a medically induced coma to try and

prevent further damage, I guess. And the

doctor said that there's, there's a good

chance that he won't wake up. They said

that he's not eligible for a liver

transplant because the chances of him

surviving that are low,

so liver transplant's out of the question.

Even if there's no chance of him getting

better, I just hope he lasts long enough

until I get back home. I just want to see

him again, even if he's in a coma, even if

he's not conscious. I just want to see

him. All I want is I just want to see him.

In. I just want to see him breathing just

one last time. It just happened so

quickly. He was fine a week ago, a few

weeks ago. He was— there's nothing wrong

with him, and he just got the flu, and it

all just happened so quickly.

Hey, so it's the next day and I just

wanted to make a quick update video on

what's happening. Um, me and my wife are

back in England to see my dad.

Let me try and explain what's happening.

Last Saturday my dad caught the flu and

then on Sunday he fainted. And then on

Monday he was taken to the hospital. The

doctors found out that he has sepsis.

Sepsis is, is when your,

your body releases chemicals into your

bloodstream to fight off an infection,

but your body reacts badly to the

chemicals and organs start shutting down

because of inflammation caused by the

chemicals. They took him to the hospital,

did some tests, and things just kept

getting worse. His kidneys are failing,

his lungs are failing, and worst of all,

his liver is also failing. And they put

him into a medically induced coma. He's

hooked up to all these machines. He's on

life support, basically, in the intensive

care unit. Me and my wife, we got to

Heathrow Airport yesterday and we took a

taxi straight to the hospital.

And my family, my sister, my mom, my

relatives, they were waiting in the

hospital. And then we saw the doctor, the

consultant. He explained to us what the

current situation is, and this is

basically what he said. The doctor said

that the main problem is my dad's liver,

and there's about a 50-50-50% chance of

the liver recovering if If the liver can

make it through, then my dad has a good

chance of, of surviving this.

They basically just told us that they're

doing everything that they possibly can,

and we just have to keep our fingers

crossed and hope that his liver is strong

enough to fight, to fight this off and to

get better. After we finished listening to

the doctor explain what was going on, I

went into Into the— I

went into my dad's room and I saw him. He

was just, just lying there in a bed

connected to all these machines. There

were so many pipes plugged into him and

he was just— he just looked like he was

sleeping. He has a

tube in his mouth, tubes up his nose,

tubes all over the place. I just,

just stood there for about 10 minutes

staring at him, thinking.

This sepsis thing is just so stupid. I've

never heard of sepsis before. I've heard

the word before, but I never really knew

what it was. And what it is, is it's

the body releasing chemicals into your

bloodstream to fight off an infection,

but it failed to fight off the infection,

my dad still has the flu infection in him.

It failed to fight off the infection and

it ended up destroying itself, basically

ended up destroying my dad's organs.

Anyway, there's, there's not really much

we can do apart from wait and hope.

Just hope that they'll phone us up and

give us good news. We're just sitting,

sitting around, not doing much, trying to

keep ourselves— trying to keep ourselves

busy, doing some cleaning, trying to help

out. My mum's also still ill because

she got the flu as well, but she's getting

better. She's good.

And that's all I have to say really. I'm

not going to try and stretch this to 10

minutes, and I don't think I'll monetize

it. I know I did a poll and 80% of you

said that you didn't mind if I monetized

it, but 20% said that I shouldn't, and 20%

of the 2,000 people who voted, it's, it's

still quite a lot of people,

and I don't really want to upset people

over $20 or $40, which is how much I

usually make from a video. I was a bit

worried that some people might get

offended or upset over the idea of me

trying to make money over my dad's

suffering, which technically would be the

case if I monetized this video.

long we're going to be here.

Uh, I'm going to have to stay for a while

no matter which outcome. Even if my dad

recovers, he's going to need help.

My mum's going to need help looking after

him. And in the worst-case scenario where

he doesn't recover, I can't, I can't go

back to Japan and leave my mum by herself.

It's kind of a tricky situation because

my— obviously my wife has to go back. She

can't stay here long term. My mum did

offer to pay for the plane tickets, but I

feel like that's kind of unfair

considering that she paid for the tickets

when we came for Christmas. My sister's

here as well, but because she lives and

works in London, she can't stay here long

term. She'll have to go back to London

eventually. And that's basically it, I
