My Girlfriend wants me to move to Thailand PERMANENTLY

So recently my girlfriend has been

questioning me about my long-term plans

for our relationship. And even though I

would like to have a long-term

relationship and have something that's

stable and semi-permanent, I have

one problem. There is one thing preventing

us from having a long-term stable

relationship, and that is my visa status.

As many of you know, I came into Thailand

on a tourist visa which only lasts 60 days

and it's extendable up to 90 days. A

couple weeks ago I went to immigration

alone without telling her and I got my

visa extended to 90 days. The process was

kind of annoying. It took a very long

time. I went out at around 9 AM and I got

back home about 5 PM, so it took pretty

much all day long just to get this stamp.

And I've got a visa up until the beginning

of January, so that's 90 days in total.

However, I've already used up 30 days, so

there's only 60 days— 60 days left in our

relationship, which isn't a very long

time. And I think she's becoming aware

that the clock is ticking. It's so

frustrating how so many countries make it

so difficult for people who enjoy extended

vacations, who like to live in countries

as a tourist for a very long time, they

make it so difficult to be able to get a

visa to be able to do that. They've got

work visas and study visas where you can

get a visa if you have a job lined up or

if you want to go to school. But if you're

like me and you just want to live in a

country and play video games, they don't

really have a visa for that. She said she

wants me to stay in Thailand with her and

she doesn't want me to go back home to

England, and I'm gonna feel pretty sad

when I have to leave as well. I want to

stay here as well, but it's just so

difficult because countries make difficult

to just be able to live in a country

without having to get a job or go to a

school. I kind of like the relationship

right now, and I think my life situation

is not bad, and I don't really want things

to end in just 60 days. I would like it to

go on for at least half a year to a year

minimum, and I'm trying to think, how can

I make this work? How can I stay in

Thailand? There's a few options I have, I

guess. There's an education visa, so I

could go to a Thai school and learn the

Thai language, but then it costs quite a

lot of money to sign up to a school. And

then I actually have to go to school. You

can't just sign up for a school, get the

visa, and then not actually attend. You

have to go because they check up on you.

They do these 90-day reports to make sure

you're attending the school. And then if

you fail the exams because you haven't

been studying, then that could also get

you into trouble and you could get banned

from entering Thailand and they could give

you some kind of fine. So I don't want to

do that because I don't actually want to

study anything. I'm actually very busy,

believe it or not. Making videos and

streaming 8 hours a day on Twitch is

pretty time-consuming and I don't really

feel like I have the spare time or the

mental willpower to actually learn another

language again. I've picked up a few

languages in the past, mainly because I

was dating Japanese women and Korean

women, but I just really don't want to

have to learn a new language again only to

break up and then never see or date a Thai

woman again and then never have to use

Thai ever again. For example, I spent such

a long time learning Korean and I got kind

of good at it, but then I broke up with my

Korean girlfriend and then I never used

Korean ever again. I haven't actually even

spoken Korean since maybe 20 2016 or 2015.

So it's kind of a useless skill unless you

actually live in the country or have a job

where you need to use the language on a

daily basis. So an educational visa is

kind of out of the question. Managing 2

YouTube channels and trying to be a

full-time Twitch streamer at the same time

is pretty consuming, time-consuming. And

also I don't have the weekends free

anymore because now I have a girlfriend,

and obviously when she's around I have to

pay attention to her and we do stuff

together. So I can't really be playing

games or streaming or making videos on the

weekend. I only have 5 days a week that

are free, and it would kind of suck if I

had to sacrifice a few days a week to some

kind of school, some kind of educational

course, learning something I don't really

care about learning. So the other option

would be a work visa, which is also

completely out of the question. I don't

have any skills or qualifications to be

able to get myself a job such as teaching

English or anything that's more advanced

than that. I probably can't even teach

English here because I don't even have a

university degree. If it's anything like

Japan, where you need a degree to be able

to qualify for a working visa, then I

wouldn't even be able to get a teaching

job. And I would suck at teaching as well

because my English skills are not very

good. I use very basic grammar and very

basic vocab. I don't really know how to

explain grammar. I don't even use the

proper correct grammar 100% all of the

time myself. And I suck at communicating

with people, and I don't know how to teach

anything. And I also have social anxiety,

which means meeting up with students would

be terrifying, and standing up in front of

a classroom of, what, 30 or 40 40 kids

would just be terrifying as well. So

that's completely out of the question. I

cannot get a job, and I already have a

job. I have my YouTube channels and my

Twitch channel. That is my job. I don't

really want to get another job doing

something else because this is what I want

to do in life. I don't know if I can leave

the country then come back in on a new

tourist visa. I don't know how many times

I can apply for a tourist visa within the

same year. Maybe I can leave then come

back in without a visa because you can

actually come to Thailand without a visa,

but then you can only stay for 30 days,

and I heard that's extendable up to 45

days, but it's not very good, is it? How

am I supposed to have a proper long-term

relationship when I can't even stay in the

country longer than a few months and then

have to keep leaving the country and then

coming back and then leaving, then coming

back? It's not really going to work like

this, is it? I need to be able to stay in

the country for multiple years without

having to leave every time my visa runs

out. So the only other option would be a

Thai Elite Visa. The Thai Elite Visa lets

you stay in Thailand for 5 years, but it's

pretty expensive. It costs about 600,000

baht, which which is like £14,000. I can

afford it, but it's pretty scary losing so

much of my net worth all at once. It's

like 60 or 70% of my net worth, and I'd

feel kind of insecure without having that

money to be able to fall back on in case

something bad happens or if there's some

kind of emergency where I need a lot of

money. But it seems pretty good because

over 5 years, I guess £14,000 isn't a lot

of money spread out. The problem is you

have to pay all of it upfront. You can't

really do spread-out payments. The main

problem is even if I wanted to go ahead

with the Thai Elite Visa, It's a pretty

big commitment to make, saying that you

want to live in a country for 5 years.

What if I don't want to live in Thailand

anymore after 2 years or after 1 year?

Then I've kind of wasted my money. If I'm

paying so much money upfront, I have to

live here for 5 years to get the value for

my money. And I just can't really see

myself living in one country for 5 years.

I've never stayed in one place for 5 years

straight since I was 18, I think. Ever

since I was 18 or 19, I've been in and out

of countries. I never stayed in the same

country for longer than more than half a

year maybe. And even if I wanted to get

the Thai Elite Visa, I still have to leave

the country anyway because for some reason

you can't apply for visas within Thailand.

You always have to apply for visas outside

of Thailand. And it takes, according to

the website, it takes a few weeks to a few

months to process the Thai Elite Visa

because they have to do background checks

and stuff like that. So I'd have to go out

of Thailand anyway and probably go to

Japan for a few months whilst I wait for

this visa to be processed. That's if I

even want to go ahead with the Thai Elite

Visa. But apart from the Thai Elite Visa,

I don't see any way I could get a

long-term visa in Thailand. And no, I'm

not going to get married again because

that was just silly last time. I don't

want to get married again and go through

that entire process, and then it might not

work out and then I have to get divorced

again. I don't really want to be divorced

twice in my life. That's just kind of,

kind of embarrassing to be divorced once

already. To get divorced a second time is

just kind of comical at this point. So as

you can see, I'm having quite a hard time

trying to figure out what to do with this

relationship. I really like her, I'm

having a great time, and I don't really

see how my life would get better if I

leave Thailand and move to Japan like

everyone keeps telling me to. Although I

really wanted to go back to Japan because

I was waiting for such a long time after

the lockdowns, I've kind of lost interest

in Japan. I kind of like life in Thailand.

Life in Thailand is fine, everything's

really cheap. I get a really nice

apartment for only about £400, and this is

kind considered to be expensive. She said

she can get me an even cheaper apartment

for like £200 a month, which is really

big, has a swimming pool in the building,

all that stuff. And the food is fine. I

haven't really eaten much Thai food. I

mainly just make my own food or eat

Japanese food. Food here is really cheap

as well. Everything is really cheap here.

And the certain parts of Bangkok are

actually very nice and kind of comparable

to Tokyo. So I don't really have a problem

with living in Thailand. I actually kind

of like it here. I even actually like the

hot weather. It's nice getting out of bed

and it's not freezing cold like it is in

England. Every time I try to get out of

bed in England during the winter, it's

such a hard challenge to get out of bed

because it's so cold. You just want to

stay in bed. But here I just jump out of

bed without even wearing anything and it's

nice and warm. So I'm not really sure how

this relationship is going to pan out.

How's it gonna work? Maybe she'll be okay

with me being in Japan for a few months

and then I come back to Thailand. Maybe

she'll be okay with our relationship being

semi-long-distance where we have breaks of

a few months in between and then I come

back to Thailand for a few months and then

I'm out of Thailand and But I have a

feeling she won't be okay with that, and

eventually she's going to want something

that's more long-term where I'm in

Thailand permanently, and I don't really

know how I'm going to achieve that with my

current knowledge.
