[2022-12-22] Why i Regret coming to Thailand [VAXaT9LGN5g]

My time in Thailand is nearly over. I've

been here for almost 90 days, and my

tourist visa only lasts for about 90 days.

So I thought I'd make a video talking

about if I regret coming here, how I feel

about my time in Thailand, and what's

going to happen next. So first of all,

you might think it was kind of random why

I decided to come to Thailand, and that

was mainly because I was waiting for

nearly 2 years for Japan to reopen, and it

just wasn't reopening. So I was kind of

getting bored and fed up in my home in

England, managed to save up a lot of

money, and I was ready to go and fly

outside. Somewhere, and I really like

being in Asia. So I thought, if I can't go

to Japan, then maybe I'll choose a

different country in Asia. So I started

chatting to this Thai girl who's now my

girlfriend, and I thought, well, people

kept telling me to go to Thailand because

it would be good and interesting and I

might like it here and it's cheap. So I

thought, okay, why don't I give Thailand a

try? And sometimes I think to myself, I

kind of regret coming to Thailand for a

few reasons. Number one main reason I

regret coming to Thailand is because Japan

practically reopened on the next day that

I arrived in Thailand. I can't believe my

bad luck. If I knew Japan was going to

reopen to tourists the very next day I

arrived in Thailand, I don't know if I

would have chosen to come to Thailand at

all. Because, you know, I really want to

be in Japan. Japan is where my heart is

in. That's the country that I was really

interested in. It's the language I spent

so many years studying. I studied the

Japanese language for such a long time.

Because I'm interested in Japan and

Japanese culture, I don't really feel the

same interest in Thailand or the Thai

language or Thai culture. I'm not

interested in Thai food or anything Really

related to Thailand. My heart is just

really not in this country. I don't really

know why, but I just don't really feel

excited to be here. I don't feel motivated

or excited to go outside and explore the

streets and walk around the city and see

interesting things like in the same way

that I felt when I was in Japan. In Japan,

I felt like I wanted to go outside. I felt

like there were lots of interesting things

outside to do and see. And in Thailand.

I'm not saying that there's no interesting

things here. There's, I guess there's some

interesting stuff, but I just don't really

feel that interested in it. I go outside

on the weekend, we go traveling, me and my

girlfriend, we go to places every weekend

and I have seen stuff. It's not like I've

just been stuck inside every single day,

even though it might seem like that. I

don't film a lot of it because I just

don't really feel like you guys would be

interested in it. It's just a lot of

temples and museums and food stalls and

random food stuff and sitting in a car. I

don't really feel like that would make for

interesting videos. I'm not really a big

fan of Thai food. I've had a few things,

but they weren't really that great. A lot

of Thai food just tastes like chili. They

like to put a lot of chili into nearly

every dish, or coriander, or lemongrass,

and I'm not really a big fan of those

flavors. I prefer other kinds of flavors.

So when we go out to restaurants, we don't

really go to Thai restaurants. I usually

choose to go to a Japanese restaurant.

For example, last Saturday we had sushi

and it cost like $27 for about I only had

about 15 plates of sushi, and you get like

2 pieces of sushi per plate, and it came

to nearly $27 for 2 of us. And I felt like

that was pretty expensive. You'd think

Thailand is cheap for food, and it is,

but only if you eat Thai food. But if you

don't eat Thai food and you just stick to

Japanese food, Western food, fast food—

McDonald's, Burger King, KFC and stuff— it

turns out that it's not really that cheap.

For example, a Big Mac cost me about

nearly £4, so it's not really that much

cheaper than the UK. But the main problem

I feel like I'm having living in Thailand

is I just feel kind of bored. My life is

pretty boring in Thailand. My girlfriend

goes to work, sometimes she works as late

as 10 PM, and I just stay inside the

apartment all day long. And you might be

thinking, why don't you just go outside by

yourself? And I did try to in the previous

apartment when I was closer to the center

of the city, but now we moved out further

from the center of the city, so it takes

like 40 minutes by train or maybe taxi,

which be like 30 minutes to get into the

center of the city. And getting out of the

apartment complex is a bit of a pain

because we live in this massive apartment

complex now. It's not like a building that

is next to the road where you just go down

and walk out the door. Now we live in this

big apartment complex where I've got to go

down the hallway and down elevator, down

like 30 floors. We're so high up now.

And then I've got to pass through a lobby

and then walk out the car park and walk

down a road to then get to the security

barrier place where they let cars in and

out with the barrier that goes up and

down. Then I have to walk past that and

then I'm out of the apartment and then I'm

by the roads. And then it's like a massive

road. It's just like 6-lane massive

motorway where there's nothing nearby. So

I'd have to get a taxi into the

interesting parts. It just takes so much

effort to go outside unless you have a

car. So it takes a lot of effort to walk

out of the building and then get a taxi to

go into the interesting parts of the city,

which would be in the center part of the

city. And I just, I can't be bothered, to

be honest. I just wait until the weekend

until my girlfriend can drive us

somewhere, and that's when I do my going

outside and traveling stuff. And then it's

really hot outside, so if you've got

blazing sun coming down, 30 degrees

Celsius all day long in the middle of the

day is especially hot when the sun is at

its highest. So I really don't want to go

outside during the day, especially not on

my own. And it's really weird because I

never felt like this in Japan. In Japan,

it was so different. My apartment when I

was married, it was just on the street.

So we're on the first floor or the second

floor, and it was very easy to just go

downstairs, open a door, and then there I

am in Japan in the middle of the streets.

Didn't have to pass through like 30 floors

or a car park and a security barrier and

then get a taxi to go anywhere. And we

lived like 5 or 10 minutes walk away from

the train station in Japan, so I felt like

it was very easy to just go outside of the

apartment and then go to places like, I

don't know, Namba or Osaka downtown or

Dotonbori or Tobita Shinchi. I don't know

what it is about Japan, but it just has a

way more interesting and exciting

atmosphere and vibe. In Bangkok, it just

feels like endless concrete elevated

motorways and highways and bridges and

non-stop traffic. 8-lane traffic, 8-lane

carriageways and roads everywhere you go.

Even if you leave the city and go into

like a less condensed area, they've got

like 8-lane carriageways everywhere.

There's no such thing as a 2-lane road

here. The traffic is just insane in this

country. Back home in the UK, you'd never

see an 8-lane road unless you're on the

motorway, and the motorways are quite

isolated away from busy areas. In town

and, and the countryside in England, you

just see 2-lane roads or maybe 4-lane

roads at most if it's like a busy

junction. But here in Bangkok in Thailand,

it's like 8-lane and 10-lane massive busy

roads, uh, everywhere you go, and it's

just not pleasant to be a pedestrian in

this city. So I get the feeling that my

viewers you guys are not really enjoying

or finding it interesting seeing me live

in Thailand. And I don't blame you because

even I feel pretty bored. 90% of my life

here in Thailand is just me in the

apartment sitting at my computer, usually

playing video games. And I don't really

know what I can do. I don't really feel

motivated to go outside. And even if I do

go outside, I mean, I did do a few IRL

streams and it was just me walking around

in traffic and walking up and down roads,

and it was pretty boring. There's not

really anything interesting to see here in

Thailand. You've got tuk-tuks, you've got

Thai You got massage places, you got— I

guess you got places where you have things

like ladyboys, but it's not like I'm gonna

go to adult entertainment districts when

I've got a girlfriend. There were some

interesting things in the beginning of the

trip, like the crazy ex-husband, who I

still don't think he was ever an

ex-husband. I think he was just an

ex-boyfriend. I don't know why he lied to

me and pretended he was her husband. He

didn't even say he was her ex-husband. He

said, I am her husband, claiming that they

were currently married and still married.

And my girlfriend and her sister both said

that's a lot of rubbish and he's just

talking nonsense. Definitely crazy. But

after that first incident happened, I've

never heard from him ever again, never

seen him ever again, and it's just like

he's vanished. So there's not been—

there's not been anything interesting

happening since that happened. And life

with my girlfriend just kind of settled

down since we got our own place to live

in. And yeah, it's just been like normal

life with a girlfriend in an apartment.

It's not really blockbuster action

exciting kind of stuff happening. So you

might be wondering what's going to happen

next now that I don't have much time left

in Thailand. I've only got a few weeks

until my visa expires and then I have to

leave Thailand. So the plan is I have

booked tickets to Vietnam. We're gonna go

to Vietnam, me and my girlfriend, for just

a week, just have like a quick vacation,

a quick holiday. And then I'm going to fly

back into Thailand and I'm going to try to

get back into Thailand. And I'm hoping

that they'll let me in without a visa

because British people don't need a visa

to enter Thailand. We can enter for 45

days without a visa, and then we can

extend that by, well, up to 75 days. So I

could stay here for another 2 months

without a visa. That's if they let me back

in on the basis of being a tourist, even

though I've only— even though I've already

been here for nearly 90 days, which is

quite a long time. I'm hoping there won't

be any suspicions, and I've seen a lot of

other people do this where they just go

over to Laos or Cambodia, or they just fly

over to another country for a few days or

a week, and they say they can easily get

back into Thailand. I've even heard people

say that they just drive over the border

into Laos for like the afternoon, get some

lunch, and then drive back into Bangkok

the very same day. And they're allowed to

come back in most of the time. And you

might be wondering, if I don't like

Thailand that much and if I feel so bored

in Thailand, why am I going to leave and

then try to come back in again for another

2 months? And that's mainly because,

well, I kind of have a girlfriend now and

she's kind of in love with me and she

doesn't want to break up with me. And I

don't really know if I want to break up

with her either. It's not exactly Well,

I'm not gonna say it's like a bad

relationship, but it's not a bad

relationship. It's a decent relationship,

and there's not really any problems apart

from me feeling a bit bored. And I don't

really see why I should leave the

relationship to try and go somewhere else.

I mean, I could just go to Japan, but then

that probably means I have to break up

with my girlfriend because she'll be like,

why are you going to Japan and not trying

to come back to Thailand with me? And then

she'll be upset and then she'll start

crying. So as much as I would like to go

to Japan right now, I don't really see any

good reasons to go to Japan because if I

go to Japan, I'll just be alone and sad

again. I won't have my girlfriend. I

probably struggle to find another

girlfriend, and I don't really think I

could afford to live in apartments in

Japan because I don't really make as much

money as I used to. And costs of

apartments in Japan has skyrocketed after

Japan's reopened to tourists. So I'm gonna

have to live in a guest house, probably.

That's the cheapest option. And going from

living in this really nice fancy apartment

where I've got all this privacy and space

and it's only like 200 150 a month. Going

from this to then having to go to a dirty

guest house full of like 100 people, full

of people who don't clean the kitchen,

having to share a kitchen and share a

shower room— that doesn't really sound

that nice. Having to go from luxury down

to— I'm not really looking forward to

having to slum it out in a guest house

again. But I will eventually end up in

Japan again because I'm going to have to

leave Thailand again. Even if I get back

into Thailand, I can only stay up to 75

days, and then after that, that's only 2

months. It's not long amount of time. So

I'm gonna have to leave Thailand a second

time next year. And where am I gonna go

after I leave Thailand? I think I'm going

to go to Japan. So it seems like no matter

what happens, I will end up in Japan

sometime next year. And then whilst I'm in

Japan, I guess I have to start thinking,

do I really want to go back to Thailand

again and go back to the girlfriend? And

if I do, how am I going to stay in

Thailand? I need a visa. I can't keep

coming in as a tourist without a visa.

That only works maybe 2 or 3 times every

calendar year, and it only lasts for a few

months and then I have to leave again.

It's kind of time-consuming, expensive,

and it's not really sustainable long-term.

I need to get like a 1-year visa or a

2-year visa, and the only options seem to

be an education visa where I go to a

school and learn self-defense or Thai

language. I think you can do a cooking

school, but then a school costs money,

and I'm not really interested in going to

school, to be honest. I'm not interested

in learning Thai Or I don't know, maybe

learning self-defense could be

interesting. I mean, I could benefit from

being able to defend myself. I do seem to

have a few experiences where I got roughed

up a little bit or nearly roughed up by a

much bigger guy. It kind of sucks when

you're only 5'9 and you're really skinny

like me and like 80 or 90% of every other

male man on this planet, your

average-sized man, is just so much bigger

than me. I feel like I'm like a girl. My

body is like a girl's body and I just

don't have confidence to be able to fight

off anyone physically. So maybe

self-defense could be interesting, but my—

I'm not really interested in having to go

to school. So the only other option would

be to go and get a Thai Elite Visa,

which costs like £15,000 for 5 years.

And then I get a 5-year visa. I could

afford it, but then it means blowing like

70% of my life savings on something that I

don't even know if I'm actually going to

want. For 5 whole years. Imagine me living

in one country for 5 years. I've never

done that in my whole life. But then if I

choose to end the relationship and I want

to stay in Japan, I could live in Japan

for like 6 months. And I feel like that

could be sad and lonely because I'll be

alone again. You don't understand how

lonely and depressing it is going from

having a girlfriend and living together

and having someone there to share your

time with and accompany you every day,

and then going from that to being

completely alone again. It feels really

bad. I've experienced it a few times and

it's probably some of the worst depression

I've ever felt. It was going from being in

a relationship straight to being alone

again. But I have a lot of ideas for what

I could do in Japan for content. Like I

could go to the guest house and meet

people again, or I could do stuff like

trying to live in a capsule hotel for 2

weeks or trying to live in the slums of

Osaka for 2 weeks. I found some really

crappy looking rooms in the slums of Osaka

and they're like £200 a month and I

thought it'd be fun funny if I try to stay

there for a few weeks and see how horrible

it is. For some reason, when it comes to

making videos and thinking of content

ideas, Japan just seems to inspire me and

make me feel a lot more creative than I

feel right now. Right now I just feel

really creatively dead inside. I just

don't, I don't really feel like I want to

do anything. I just want to sit at home

all day. To be honest, I wasn't really

expecting the relationship to last this

long or to get this far. I thought I'll

just come to Thailand I'll probably get

rejected. She's not gonna like me, or

maybe it'll just last for like a couple

weeks or a month at most, and then I'll

just hop over to Japan since it's reopened

recently, and then everything will be

great again. But life didn't really turn

out that way. Usually what I want to

happen doesn't happen, and then the

opposite of what I want to happen happens.

It's kind of weird. So I guess we'll have

to wait until next year to see what

happens, see if I'm allowed to come back

into Thailand. I mean, if I finish my

Vietnam trip and then when I come back to

Thailand they don't let me back inside,

and they didn't me entry. Number one,

I've never been denied entry into a

country, so that will be an interesting

experience. It might be scary. And then I

guess I'll just go straight to Japan from

Thailand if I get denied entry the second

time, and then I guess I'll be in Japan

from January something.
