Why I Hate the One Piece Live Action Remake on Netflix

Hello, welcome back to a new video. So

recently I've been watching the new One

Piece live-action series on Netflix, and

as an avid fan of the One Piece anime and

manga, I knew I just had to watch this.

Unfortunately, so far it's been kind of

bland, boring, uninspiring, and kind of

lacking in luster. I started watching the

One Piece anime over 10 years ago when I

was interested in learning Japanese, and I

thought watching a lot of anime would be a

great way to learn Japanese. And One Piece

was one of my favorite animes to watch

when I was learning Japanese, and I have

some great memories watching that show.

Great memories are now being pissed all

over on by this live-action monstrosity.

So first of all, let's talk about the cast

of the show. The guy that plays Luffy, I

think his name is Iñaki Godoy. I don't

really like him. He doesn't really have

the right kind of face to play Luffy, and

I know it's not really his fault, but he

kind of looks like the actor that played

Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones. And if

you remember that character, he was a very

annoying character that everyone really

hated, and I just can't stop thinking of

Ramsay Bolton every time Iñaki Godoy

smiles. He does have the right kind of

skinny body shape, but his face kind of

ruins it for me. And I really dislike how

they all pronounce Luffy as Luffy. As

someone who watched the anime in Japanese

without subtitles, everyone pronounces his

name as Luffy, not Luffy. The actor that

plays Zoro is quite good. I think he's

quite handsome and quite good-looking,

and he fits the role quite well, but he's

a little bit too much on the K-pop

feminine side, and I feel like Zoro is

more of like a masculine butch guy in the

anime, with a deeper manly voice, and the

actor that plays Zoro right now is just a

little bit too much on the feminine side,

even though he is quite an attractive guy.

Now as for Nami, I think they did a pretty

good job choosing the actress for Nami,

'cause she is pretty attractive, I have to

say. When she's wearing that skirt, her

legs and her thighs and her hip-to-waist

ratio is very nice. I'd give it an 8.2 out

of 10 on attractiveness scale, and I

definitely have my eyes glued to the

screen whenever Nami is on screen.

There's one episode where she's wearing

this kind of pink top with a skirt. Very

short skirt, I might add, and her legs

look amazing. I don't know how 2 guys can

be stuck on a ship with her as one of

their crew members and not get funny

ideas. And then as for Usopp, I think the

actor who plays Usopp is okay, although

his mouth is very big. And the actor who

plays Sanji is okay as well, but I don't

understand why they gave him a British

accent. It's kind of weird. And also his

hair needs more volume. It just looks kind

of greasy and flat. So yeah, I definitely

feel like Zoro fits the role the best,

and Nami is like a good second best and

good eye candy. But for Luffy, I don't

really like this guy. Now let's talk about

the combat scenes. Obviously One Piece is

an action anime with amazingly high-octane

action, with things getting destroyed and

ships being blown up and massive buildings

crumbling and this kind of crazy

high-energy action. How are they going to

translate that into live action? Well,

unfortunately they haven't really done a

great job at it. The CGI when Luffy's

limbs stretch don't look too bad, but when

he does do some kind of stretching

fighting move, it's very stiff. Like, he

just stands there and he stands in one

spot and then winds up his arm to stretch

back so he can stretch it back to do some

kind of punching attack. But in the anime,

he never does that. He never just stands

in one spot. He always is on the move and

he's very active and full of energy. I

don't feel like they've really conveyed

that well in the live action. Luffy is

supposed to fight like Spider-Man, you

know, like jumping all over the place,

dodging and somersaulting and trying not

to get in the way of big attacks. But in

the live-action, he kind of just stands

there, doesn't move much, or he does like

a slow-motion looking, very slow-looking

roly-poly. Most of the fight scenes just

seem to be Luffy talking and the enemy

talking, and then the fight scene only

lasts about 20 seconds. For example, the

fight against Buggy the Clown was just

mostly talking and mostly just Buggy

throwing his limbs at at random people and

Luffy, and then they just beat him by

grabbing his limbs and stuffing them into

boxes, and then he gets punched out of the

tent. And then the fight against the—

what's it called— the cat guy with the

long blades on his fingers. The fight was

just basically him hiding from Luffy

behind things and occasionally dashing

out, and then Luffy does like one punch

and then grabs him and then headbutts him

like he does in the anime. But it was just

so kind of anticlimactic. He just

headbutts him, he falls out the window,

and he runs away. It was such a rubbish

fight compared how— compared to how the

fight happens in the anime, which is much

more dynamic. In the anime, there's a

shark character called Arlong, and the way

Luffy defeats him is by shooting his leg

or his foot up through the ceiling of the

building they're in, and his foot shoots

right up above the building through every

floor, and then he comes— he brings it

crashing down, and his foot comes crashing

down through all the floors, smashes into

Arlong. Arlong, and the whole building

just crumbles. I don't know how they're

going to do that in the live action. I

think they're just going to do like a

really lame attempt at recreating that

scene by— I don't know, maybe Luffy just

kicks him with a stretched out leg and he

goes flying out the window again. I do

like how they're trying, they're at least

attempting to recreate the fight scenes in

the live action as to how they went in the

anime, but the way they're doing it is

just kind of lame. I guess all the CGI

takes a lot of money And you can tell when

they've got like a big fancy CGI moment.

So like there's a scene where Mihawk uses

his sword and slashes it and sends like a

shockwave out towards a ship in the sea

and it just gets cut in half. And that CGI

was pretty good. I thought that scene was—

wow, that seems really good. But it

probably cost them a lot of money to do

and they probably can't really do that

kind of CGI a lot of the time. So I feel

like they've got a restrained or a limited

budget when it comes to the CGI, and the

fight scenes look kind of lame and

amateurish, probably because of the

restricted budget. It's also kind of lame

when Zoro fights because in the anime and

the manga he uses 3 swords when he gets

really serious, and he puts the 3rd sword

in his mouth clenched in his teeth. He

does that in the live-action, but it's

just kind of silly because, I mean, using

your teeth to hold a sword to fight with

it is pretty stupid in the first place and

unbelievable. But at least in the anime,

it kind of looks believable because they

can do like, you know, animating trickery.

But in real life, you see someone holding

a sword in their mouth and you just kind

of laugh thinking there's no way you're

gonna do any kind of damage holding it in

your mouth unless you're gonna break all

your teeth. So he does have a few fights

where he holds the katana in his mouth,

but he doesn't do anything with it. He

just kind of runs at the enemy, slashes at

the enemy with the 2 swords in his hands,

and the 3rd sword in his mouth doesn't do

anything. So it just seems completely

pointless. I do like some of the fight

scenes where he's got 2 of the swords or

all of the swords sheathed and he kind of

blocks enemy attacks by just kind of half

unsheathing the sword, which looks very

kind of martial artistic and Jackie

Chan-tistic or whatever the word is. I

haven't watched the entire series yet and

I haven't yet decided see how they've done

Chopper. But I really wonder how they're

gonna do Chopper. He's like a little furry

fluffy animal thing in the anime. How are

they gonna do that? I guess they're gonna

have to use a lot of CGI, or maybe use

like a puppet that they used to use in

Star Wars, and it's gonna look really

crap. Also, I don't understand on the

flashbacks of when Luffy was a kid, the

kid Luffy kind of looks black. Now there's

nothing wrong with that, it's just the

main character— I mean, the adult version

of Luffy is played by a What's his name,

Iñaki Godoy, and he's Mexican. So the

adult version of Luffy and the child

version of Luffy look completely

different. He really looks like a black

kid when he's a kid. So yeah, I am kind of

enjoying it. It is kind of like One Piece.

It does capture some of the vibes, but the

fight scenes are kind of disappointing,

and I'm a bit disappointed with some of

the decisions when it came to the casting.

Although I really like Nami, she's pretty

hot and attractive. So I'd only carry on

watching it so I can see more of Nami.

But for now, I would have to give it a

score of 6.2 out of 10. It's not bad for a

live-action remake of an anime. It's not

the worst. There's much worse anime

remakes, like Death Note was way worse

than this. So for an anime live-action,

it's not completely awful, but I'm still

remaining skeptical for now, and I'm

hoping the budgets for the CGI is going to

increase Because then they could do some

really cool stuff with, uh, with the CGI

for Luffy in the fight scenes, make them

more explosive maybe.
