Elden Ring is a MASSIVE disappointment - NEGATIVE reviews on Steam

Hello and welcome back to a new video. So

it's been a few days since Elden Ring has

released and people have had plenty of

time to try out the game and see if they

like it or not. I personally didn't really

like it very much and found the game to be

pretty unbearable. And you'd think that

the game has been getting quite a lot of

positive reviews across the board. Most of

the major gaming channels have been giving

it 10 out of 10s, 9 out of 10s. But if you

take a look at these Steam reviews,

there's a very different picture being

painted. Over 50,000 player reviews and

the result is mixed, not positive and not

overwhelmingly positive, but mixed. Now,

I don't want to sound like I'm bragging,

but I guess my video review was kind of

accurate when I was saying that the game

wasn't very good and you shouldn't buy it

yet. And I guess you could say I told you

so because the game is extremely poorly

optimized for PC, and there's 20,000

people who have left negative reviews as

of now. So why has Elden Ring gotten so

many negative reviews even though everyone

seems to be saying that it's the best game

in the whole world? And there seems to be

several key issues that people are

complaining about. And yes, this all

revolves around the PC port. So if you're

a console gamer, first of all, I feel

sorry for you and I pity you. And I just

don't really understand why you would

choose to play on a console when you could

play it on a gaming PC. But that's a

different story for another topic. It

seems as though for now, it's the PC

gamers who are having these problems. So

as you can see, this is a good snapshot of

what most of the negative reviews are

saying. Most of them are saying that the

game has extremely poor frame rate

problems and a lot of stuttering. I

noticed the stuttering and the lag

straight away from the beginning. I

thought at first it was my computer. I

thought my system was having problems. I

thought maybe my computer wasn't good

enough to be able to play this game, but

it seems like a lot of people are having

the same problem even on high-end

machines. Now I'm personally playing on a

Razer Blade Pro 17-inch gaming laptop with

a Core i7 10th generation CPU and an RTX

3060 graphics card with 16 gigabytes of

RAM. And I'm not trying to brag here, but

it was a pretty expensive gaming laptop

that cost me over £2,000, and I had to do

some extremely questionable things in

order to be able to afford that high-end

gaming laptop. And I bought that laptop

specifically for gaming, and when I booted

up Elden Ring and I found all of this

stuttering and input lag, I was just kind

of shocked. I was just absolutely shocked

that in 2022 we can have such an

absolutely lackluster PC port on a AAA

brand new video game like this. And I just

feel really upset that it's always us PC

gamers that have to put up with these bad

ports and bad launches on day one. I was

so excited to be able to play Elden Ring

finally, and once again, us PC gamers,

we're disappointed and we have to put up

with all of the day one bugs and glitches

and poor frame rates and stuff like that.

This game is just so poorly optimized for

PC. It just— it baffles the brain. Elden

Ring is the kind of game where the enemy's

movements and attacks and being able to

time dodges and blocks and parries is

extremely important to the gameplay

mechanics. Down to its very core, it is a

Dark Souls game in every single nature.

And the most important thing about Dark

Souls games is your ability to be able to

time attacks and dodges and rolls and be

able to move out of the way of boss

attacks and stuff like that. How are we

expected to be able to do that when our

ability to play the game is completely

hamstrung by the terrible frame rates and

the stuttering? As of right now, the game

is completely unplayable for us PC gamers,

and I just won't be able to retract my do

not buy statement until we see some actual

effort being put into rectifying these

problems. The other problem I had— well,

it's not really a massive problem, it's

just a bit of a nitpicky thing that I

didn't really like. Like or appreciate was

the sloppiness and the laziness of the

control layouts. Now, there is keyboard

and mouse support in the game, thank God,

because I just cannot stand playing with a

control pad. Why would you choose to play

with a control pad when you could use a

keyboard and mouse? The entire control

scheme in the game is all mapped out in

controller button form. So when it's

teaching you what buttons to press, it

will say, for example, press the X button

to do this, press the Y button to do that.

But when you press X and Y on the

keyboard, it doesn't actually do what it's

supposed to do, it does something else. I

just had to kind of randomly press buttons

on the keyboard to find out what each

button does. I found out that you had to

press stuff like the E button to interact

and the Q button to do something else,

the R button to heal. It would have been

nice if they could detect that I'm using

keyboard and mouse and teach me what

buttons I had to press on the keyboard,

not as if I was using a controller. I just

found it to be a little bit lazy and a

little bit sloppy and also very

disrespectful as a PC gamer that they

didn't even take the time to bother to

change the in-game control layout scheme

to keyboard and mouse whilst I have one

plugged in. And also a lot of people were

complaining about the game just randomly

crashing and having white screens. I can

just imagine how frustrating it would be

if you're on a boss fight and you've

nearly taken down the boss and suddenly

your game just crashes and you lose all

your progress. I would absolutely rage.

So yeah, not exactly the best start to the

PC port, the PC launch, but as always with

a lot of video games that come to PC,

there's usually a lot of problems on day

one. I wouldn't say it's as bad as

Cyberpunk was, and hopefully they managed

to patch the game fairly quickly. And

these problems don't really seem like

massively huge problems. They should be

quite simple to fix in the code. I just

find it very disappointing and also kind

of deceiving that a lot of these really

big gaming YouTube channels, they put out

these really positive reviews before

anyone's even able to buy the game or try

it themselves, and they give them 10 out

of 10s, hundreds out of hundreds points

scores, and they make the game seem really

amazing and perfect. They don't even talk

about any of these problems that so many

people are currently having. I just find

it really hard to trust these video game

reviews from these big gaming channels

when they speak like this. This game is

such an amazing game and you'll lose

yourself in the magical and whimsical

world of Elden Ring, and this game is

going to challenge you in ways you've

never been challenged before and really

reinvigorate your gaming spirit. It just

sounds like they're scared of saying

anything negative about the game because

they're probably being paid not to. So

whenever I see these really positive

reviews of video games from these big

gaming YouTube channels, I try to take it

with a pinch of salt. As for what I'm

doing, I'm personally refunding the game

because I just don't really feel

comfortable paying that amount of money

for a game that isn't really optimized for

for my gaming system. There's just too

many game-breaking problems as of right

now, and I think I would buy the game

again once the price comes down a little

bit, or at least all of the problems have

been ironed out. I'm sure a patch is going

to come out soon and everything will be

fine. All we need is a little bit of

patience. But once again, it kind of

proves that every time a game has massive

hype like this, there's always going to be

quite a lot of disappointment. Remember

about Cyberpunk? Remember how hyped up

that game was and how just full glitches

and bugs it was and how disappointed

people were. And then even years later,

the game is just still an utter mess.

Now, I'm not saying that Elden Ring is

going to be as bad as that, but

FromSoftware doesn't really have a great

history when it comes to porting their

games over to PC. So give them a little

bit of time. They're not really experts at

PC porting, but really it's a bit

disappointing because it's not like

they're fresh on the scene. They're not

really a brand new gaming company. They

should have lots of experience by now

porting games to the PC, and they should

have the knowledge and the know-how to

know how to do a PC port. Without all of

these bugs and problems on day one of the

launch. So for now, I can't really

recommend buying the game if you are a PC
