[2023-12-02] Selling Off Everything I Own. [5oBbrGhPHhI]

Hey, so as you may know, my financial

situation is not looking too good and I'm

kind of struggling with money recently.

But instead of just sitting here whining

about it over and over again forever, I

thought I would actually do something

about it. And I decided to sell off all of

my tech apart from, you know, the things I

actually need to make videos and film

stuff. And I need my computer, obviously.

So apart from those few items, I've

decided to get rid of everything else. As

you might remember, last year when I came

to Thailand, I completely stuffed my

backpack full of tech. And in the end, it

was about 14 kg of laptops and battery

banks and LiveU Solos and cameras and

phones and gaming devices, Switch OLEDs.

And it just kind of got out of control. I

had too many things that do the same

thing, had like multiple phones when I

only need one phone really. And I want to

get rid of it and downsize my backpack and

start becoming more of like a minimalist

with a minimalist mindset when it comes to

tech. And also, I really need the money.

And I've wanted to do a big great tech

sell-off for a while now, but because I'm

in Thailand, I don't really know how to

sell stuff. I'm banned on eBay. I don't

know if they use Craigslist. They have

some shopping apps like Shopee and Lazada

or something, but I don't understand how

it works. It's all in Thai. I can't read

it. I can't sign up to it because I don't

have a Thai credit card or stuff like

that. It won't accept my Visa card. So I

couldn't use the internet here to sell my

stuff, and I tried going around shops to

try and sell my stuff, but they always

gave me a really terrible price and tried

to rip me off because obviously they want

resell it for profit. So I, for a while,

I couldn't figure out how to sell my stuff

until recently I found out an amazing new

thing. So there's a website called

Facebook and they've got a marketplace on

it. Now, I haven't used Facebook in over

10 years. Obviously, I used it when it was

really popular when I was like 17 or 18 or

19 years old when everyone was using

Facebook. But since then, I thought the

whole thing kind of died off and it was

kind of lame to use Facebook and like

upload photos and post feeds on it or

whatever you post on it. So I don't use it

as a social media website anymore. I use

things like Instagram instead. And I

didn't know that you could sell stuff and

buy stuff and there's a thriving lively

marketplace on it. And people in Thailand

love to use it. You can go onto

marketplace in Thailand and there's loads

of stuff you can buy on it. People just

selling and buying and trading items all

the time. They sell cars and houses on

Facebook Marketplace here. So I found out

I can just list my stuff on Facebook

Marketplace And instantly Thai people were

messaging me. I had like 20 messages from

Thai people asking me when they could buy

the device. So far I've sold my Switch

OLED, my iPad Pro, and I recently just

sold my laptop. You know, that big bulky

laptop I bought back in Manchester, and I

did all my gaming and all my editing and

streaming on that laptop. I found a way to

get rid of it and not need it anymore

because I have the ROG Ally. And I sold

the— yeah, I sold the iPad Pro. So no more

illustrated animated videos for those of

you who love those. It's not like those

were getting mega millions of views

anyway, so it wasn't really a hard

decision to sell that. I know I could make

money by using it to make illustrated

videos, but come on, let's face it, the

illustrated videos make about $10 to $15

each at the amount of views they get. So I

would have to make about 30 videos to make

about $300. 30 videos, that's a lot of

work. I'd rather just sell the entire

thing and get $300 cash in hand. And I

sold the Switch OLED because I don't use

it anymore. I got about $150 for that. I

got about $300 for the iPad Pro, and I got

about $500 for the gaming laptop. So I got

loads of cash now. Got this big fat stack

of cash. You can see it is really nice to

have so much cash in your hand because

then I don't have to take out money from

the ATM. I don't have to pay the ATM fees.

And you might be asking, what am I going

to do with this money? Am I going to go

out and buy like brand new iPhone 15 or

something? No. I'm not going to use this

money for anything apart from rent and

food. So this is about 30,000 baht. It's

going to last maybe a couple of months. I

can pay rent twice. I'll pay for food a

couple of times as well. So this is all

going to be gone in a couple of months on

rent and food. So sometimes I do feel like

I lost a lot of tech that was kind of

useful in certain ways, and I lost it to

get this money, which I'll now be losing

as well to pay for my living expenses.

But I kind of have to because if I don't

have this, Where am I going to get the

money to pay for my living expenses? In

order to sell the stuff, I actually have

to go into the city. About takes about 30

or 40 minutes on the train to get into the

central part of Bangkok, and I have to

actually meet the person face to face to

do the transaction. They want to check out

the device, and then they have to hand me

over the cash. So it has been you know I

have to try and get over my anxiety of

meeting strangers. But there's only two

things that breaks me out of my shell to

actually want to meet people. Usually, I

would avoid meeting people at all costs.

So the first thing is I think you can

guess what it is starts. With an S and

it's a 3-letter word. And then the second

thing that gets me out of the house to

meet people is money. So if there's money

involved, then yeah, I will just have to

grit my teeth and go through the boring

and annoying and sometimes scary

experience of meeting a stranger. So I met

3 guys so far. They've all been great.

First guy was a bit annoying. He showed up

40 minutes late, came to the wrong place,

and we had to wait for him to come and

find us. And then he didn't even bring

enough cash for the Switch OLED. I said,

5,500 baht and he brought 2,500. And then

he Cash App'd, or whatever the app here is

called for transferring money, he Cash

App'd the rest of the money to my

girlfriend. So it was lucky my girlfriend

was there because I don't have this kind

of Cash App banking app that they use in

Thailand. They do a lot of, they do a lot

of QR code scanning to do payments. So for

example, if you go to a marketplace and

they have to pay, they won't use cash or

cards, they'll scan a QR code that's on

the store display, and then they'll send

over the money like that. So it's kind of

weird. I've never seen that done on such a

big scale before in any other country. So

he Cash App'd over the rest of the money

to my girlfriend, and then I let her keep

it to pay for rent and stuff. And then the

second guy, he showed up fairly on time.

The thing is with Thai people is they do

show up very late. So if they say they're

going to show up at 2, they usually show

up at 3 or 2:40. They always end up kind

of late. So the second guy shows up And he

buys my iPad Pro and he nearly didn't buy

it because iPad Pro is kind of bent. For

some reason it bent in my backpack. So

there's a slight, slightly but noticeably

bent part on the back. But he was okay

with it and he gave me 10,000 baht. And

then the third guy was really nice, but he

was also really late. He showed up an hour

late. He said, let's meet at 2 p.m. And

then he shows up at 3 p.m. So we're

sitting around in the shopping center

waiting for him to show up. We got some

lunch, did a bit of shopping, and then he

shows up. He checks out the laptop. And he

was happy with it. He did a bunch of— I

don't know what he did. He did some kind

of shortcut commands to like go into the

BIOS boot menu and all that kind of stuff.

So he's like a programmer or a coder,

and he bought it. He was happy with it,

gave me 17,000 in hard cash.

And I've got a few more things I want to

sell. So as you can see, I have quite a

few more things to sell. This is all my

gear from when I wanted to be an IRL

streamer, which Didn't really work out

very well since I suck at IRL streaming.

I bought all these battery banks and this

LiveU Solo, which is for live streaming.

The LiveU Solo is special because you can

use multiple SIM cards and get a steady

internet connection for streaming, and I

never used it. And this cost like £1,000,

so I don't know how I can sell this

because I doubt there's many wannabe

streamers out there. And also smoke

started coming out of one of the ports,

so I don't even know if it's actually

usable anymore. And then I've got these

stupid battery banks. These cost me

hundreds of dollars, all these battery

banks, especially this one. I got ripped

off in the market. Don't go to the market

and buy stuff like battery banks because

they really rip you off. And then I've got

all these phones. I got 4 phones at

the moment, including the one that I'm

filming this video on right now. Got 4

phones. I got the iPhone 12 Mini, I got

the Samsung S10 Plus, and I bought this

cheap crappy Blackview phone, which I was

using for dating apps because I got banned

on the dating apps. This is rubbish, it

was like $50, probably worth nothing.

This is really old, the S10 Plus, which is

my favorite phone, or it was until the mic

stopped working, my USB plug-in mic. And

this wireless mic doesn't work on it, so I

can't use it for making videos, so it's

kind of useless now. And then the iPhone

12 Mini, I rarely use this and it's all

cracked up on the back. Not very good

condition. So really the only phone I

really like and really need is this phone.

So I'm gonna try and sell all these

phones. I might get a couple hundred for

the iPhone, might get a couple hundred or

maybe 100 for the S10 Plus. And I've also

got this GoPro, my famous GoPro 7. Do you

remember the videos I used to make with

this? Remember that famous video I made

called How I Secretly Film People with My

GoPro 7 and No One Notices? And then

everyone got mad at it. That video got

like 40,000 views back in the good old

days when I could make a video about

basically anything and it would get like

40,000 views. People were so outraged.

They're like, oh my God, I can't believe

he thinks he can go around secretly

filming people. And then I said something

stupid like, well, when I go into a store,

they're secretly filming me with CCTV

cameras, so it's only fair that I film

them back. Can't believe people thought I

was being serious. So I got this. I don't

really use it anymore because I don't do

outdoor vlogs. I don't do action cam kind

of vlogs. I don't do any extreme sports,

so I don't really need a GoPro. It was

nice as like a little camera to do some

discreet vlogging, but I think I'm just

not going to bother with outdoor vlogging

anymore because they do so badly. I did

some jungle vlogs and a road trip in

Thailand with elephants and they got 2K

views, so I'm just not going to bother

anymore with outdoor vlogs since you guys

obviously don't care about them. I don't

really like having lots of stuff. I'm not

a hoarder. I don't like to collect things.

I'm not like one of those people who

collects hundreds and thousands of Pokémon

cards or some useless junk. I only like to

have stuff that has a function. If it

doesn't have a functional use, I usually

get rid of it or I ditch it. And I kind of

went overboard with all of the tech. I

don't know how it got out of control, but

I felt like at the point of buying it, I

felt like I needed this stuff. It was

going to help me with my job as a

YouTuber, but none of it actually really

helps. And really, I just need one good

phone one set of mics and some kind of

Windows-based computer so I can do

Windows-based things on. Because, you

know, mobile phones and mobile operating

systems can be extremely limiting, and you

do need a proper fully fledged Windows

device for some tasks. So I just need like

a phone and one other device, and

everything else I should get rid of. I

want to embrace being a minimalist because

I believe that if you can't be happy with

all the stuff then I mean, wait, if you

can't be happy without the stuff, then

you're not going to be happy with all the

stuff. So I don't really believe that

having more stuff makes you happy. I never

really felt happier with more stuff, and I

feel like getting rid of the stuff will

lighten the burden on my mind and also my

backpack. So when I go traveling, I won't

have all this crap to lug around. It was

just a nightmare when I was in Japan

earlier this year and I was trying to do

the cycling subathon. Having to lug around

that massive backpack with over 12 kg of

tech and battery banks and laptops and all

that stuff was so difficult. And I just

don't want to do that again. I actually

have a dream and I know it's going to

sound crazy, but I've had this wild dream

of one day traveling to Japan or anywhere

else without a backpack. No luggage,

nothing. You just get on a plane like

this, you know, hands in your pockets.

Here I am, ready to go to Japan. And you

don't even have a bag or anything. How

funny would that be? And how great would

that feel not to have any backpack or

luggage? So you would just go with your

wallet and your cards. So you've got

money, obviously, and your passport so

that can go in your back pocket and your

phone. And that's it. You just need one

phone, your money and your passport. And I

don't really see what else you would need.

So you need a few things like a

toothbrush, toothpaste, a different set of

clothing, underwear, and socks. But you

can get that when you get there. When you

arrive there, you just go to 7-Eleven,

buy a cheap toothbrush, get a USB-C cable

so you can charge your phone, and then buy

some socks and underwear. Maybe get like 2

or 3 extra shirts and extra trousers. You

can wear some underwear whilst you're on

the plane. You can wear like 5 sets of

underwear, but it'll be kind of

uncomfortable. You can just get the stuff

in 7-Eleven when you get there, and it'll

just all fit into a plastic bag. Bring it

in a plastic bag and then just put it in

the room you're staying in, in the

guesthouse room or the hotel room. And

then if you move hotels, just put it all

into a plastic bag. That's all you need

really. You don't really need a laptop or

a tablet or all this stuff, all this crap.

So one day, I don't know if I'll ever

actually do it because it's kind of crazy,

but I would like to just board a plane,

fly to Japan with nothing but just what's

in my pocket and no backpack, nothing. Be

so funny. But unfortunately, I don't know

if that goal is actually achievable

because I can't seem to wean myself off of

my addiction to Rainbow Six. I really love

Rainbow Six and PC gaming. And although

traveling is fun and it'll give you

something to do, you're not going to be

traveling all day long. There's going to

be moments where you've done your

traveling, you've seen some stuff, you

come back to your hotel or your room in

the evening and it's like 5 or 6 PM And

what are you going to do, like go to bed?

You've got 5 hours to just relax and sit

around and do nothing. You're going to

want to play some games if you're a gamer.

It's kind of hard to just ditch a laptop

or a gaming device unless I put the ROG

Ally into my pocket or something. But if I

wasn't a gamer, then I don't really see

myself caring too much about having a

Windows device and I could just use only

my phone and the phone should be able to

do everything I want to do or need to do.

But anyway, yeah, I'm gonna try and sell

off as much tech and stuff I don't need as

possible so that I have enough cash to pay

for rent and food without having to

withdraw money from my bank account. And

then any money that comes into my bank

accounts, unfortunately, I have to send to

my mum to pay off the money that she lent

me and also have to pay any future tax

payments that might come my way, which

there could be a few more left. I don't

know if I have to pay penalties or not.

Hopefully not. They haven't actually said

anything about penalties Yeah, in my last

email they just said this is your final

closure for the tax year, blah blah blah.

And they also finalized the calculations

between 19, 2020, and 2021, and they gave

me the total amount I owed. But they

didn't mention anything about penalties.

You'd think they would say, oh, by the

way, you also got to pay penalties, but

they didn't. So I'm hoping, fingers

crossed, they're not going to give me any

penalties. I was thinking about sending my

tech to my viewers, but there's just too

many problems with trust. You might not

trust me. You might think, oh, I'll get

your money and then not send you anything.

Or I might send you the thing and then

you'll pretend it never came, and then

you'll demand your money back. Or you'll

say, oh, it broke in the post, when

actually it didn't. And it would be very

expensive for shipping and insurance and

stuff like recorded sign for delivery is

quite expensive. And these items are quite

heavy, and a lot of you guys live so far

away it wouldn't really be possible. So

it's easier and makes more sense just sell

it here in Thailand. Hopefully this extra

money is going to help me over the coming

next few months to keep my head above the

water and make sure my money doesn't go

into the negatives and I'm not having to

dip into my savings to survive. I really

don't want to have to use my savings

because once you start doing that, then

it's kind of scary because your savings

will not last forever.
