M3 Macbook Pro Vs Windows Gaming Laptop (Asus ROG Flow x13)

Hello and welcome back to a new video. So

as you can see in front of me, I have 2

laptops: the M3 MacBook Pro from

Apple and the ASUS Flow X13 laptop

from ASUS, Windows laptop. And the specs

are 8GB of RAM with the M3 chip and 16GB

of RAM with the Ryzen AMD R9 7940HS

with RTX 4050 graphics card, and they cost

about the same, $1,700. So they're pretty

even in terms of how expensive they are,

and also kind of similar sizes, 14-inch,

13.4-inch screen. So I thought we'd do

head-to-head to see which one is better at

doing benchmark speed tests and some other

tests here and there, because I'm really

having a hard time deciding which one of

these laptops I prefer. Okay, so first of

all, we're going to do a web browser speed

test, and this is going to measure the

speed of the browsing capabilities of both

of the laptops. Okay, so we're going to

line up the cursors and start test.

So this should take a few seconds. Seems

like the Apple is coming way ahead.

Actually, I already know what's going to

happen because I've done this before. So

the Apple usually gets about 578 on

the speed test for the browsing test, and

this one usually gets like 280, which is

nearly half the speed. Which is

surprising. See, like 270 and 570, quite a

big difference in the speed test on the

Speedometer BrowserBench speed test.

Okay, next we're going to do some testing

with video exporting. So for the video

exporting test, what I'm going to do is

open up my video editing software, and

then we're going to export a video that's

about 6 minutes long. So first we'll see

which laptop can actually open the

software the fastest.

Seems like the Apple opened the beginning

screen way faster. That was way faster on

the Apple. And then we do— I've already

saved the projects. It's this one here,

speed test, and we'll see which laptop can

open the projects the fastest.

Whoa, yeah, the Apple was definitely way

ahead. And then The Windows laptop came

shortly after, so not really a massive

difference. Okay, for the video exporting

test, we have a bunch of clips on the

timeline. The total length of the video is

about 6 minutes and 30 seconds, and we're

going to go into the export settings.

And you can see that we have the highest—

well, we are going to set it to the

highest quality export settings,

and that gives us a total file size of

around 7 gigabytes. And the export

settings are 60 FPS,

150,000 bitrate at constant bitrate, and

we're just going to hit export on both of

them now.

So as you can see, the Windows laptop is

saying an estimated time of 1 minute,

whereas the MacBook has 2 minutes 30

seconds as its estimated completion time.

And wow, already the ASUS Windows laptop

is way ahead. We're at 25% converted

Compared to the MacBook's around 12%.

The blue line on the Windows laptop is

just going so much faster. We're already

at 40%, whereas the MacBook's at 17%.

We're halfway done on the Windows laptop

and the MacBook's only at 20%. Yeah, this

is going to be an easy win, easy win for

the Windows laptop. I don't know why the

Windows laptop is so much faster. Maybe

because it got a better score on the

multi-core benchmark test, which we'll do

later. Although I thought

this would be a single-core task, I don't

know. So we're 85% finished on the

Windows, 38% finished on the MacBook.

This is, this is not even close as a

competition. And the Windows just

finished. The MacBook's still at 40%.

We've got about a minute left. I don't

think there's any point continuing the

test. The MacBook is at least 50% slower

than the Windows laptop is. That is crazy.

I can't believe how much slower the

MacBook is. I don't know if it's because

it has lower RAM. It's only got 8GB of

RAM. I reset the MacBook, so There's no

other programs open apart from Safari.

We're at 65% finished on the MacBook.

It is strange because the MacBook is only

using 28% of the CPU.

Now it says 37%. So it's not using all the

CPU for some reason. It's using about 25%,

30% of the CPU. I'm sure if it

used 100% of the CPU, it would be much

faster, but I don't know how to make it

use all of the CPU.

It's nearly done. Okay, I think we know

which one's the winner. So we finished the

test in about a minute on this one, and I

think it's been over 2 minutes for the

MacBook to finish exporting the same

video. Interesting.

So as you can see, I've got Cinebench R23

opened on both the devices. We're going to

do single-core test and multi-core test on

both of them. Let's get the mouses ready

on the CPU multi-core first. Okay, so

start the test now.

I think I hit it at the same time.

So it's going to take 10 minutes. It's

just going to make these little images go

around and around.

Already I can hear the ROG X13 fans

starting to whiz up, but I can't really

hear the MacBooks. No, I don't really hear

the MacBook fans, so I guess I'll come

back in 9 minutes to see what the results

are. I'm very interested to see what the

results are for the multi-core. I think

the X13 should win. I don't know. And the

tests have finished. Wow, look at this.

The MacBook scored multi-core 8,156

points, but the winner goes to the ASUS

X13 with 14,757

points on the CPU multi-core. That is

quite astounding actually. Oh my God,

the M3 chip only got 8,000, whereas this

one got nearly 15,000. That's like an

extra 7,000. That's nearly double. I can't

believe it. The Ryzen 9 7940HS

got like 40% more than the Apple M3 chip.

That's crazy. And then next we'll do the

CPU single-core. Let's get the mouse

ready. Start, and let's

go. Okay, so the single-core test has

finished. We got a score of 1858 on the

MacBook, and it's actually coming at

number 1. Compared to the other

processors. And then on the X13, we got

1752, and that came out at number

1 as well. 1752. So in terms of

single-core, the MacBook M3 MacBook Pro

actually came out ahead, but only just

slightly by about 100 points. So it's

pretty neck and neck. But when it comes to

multi-core, I don't know why, but the X13

completely destroyed the MacBook. So after

finishing my testing, I actually don't

know which one I like more. Obviously the

Windows laptop is more powerful. It

exports videos 50% faster, it has a higher

multi-core score on the benchmark

thingamajig, although it is slower on the

web browsing speed tests. In general, I

think for doing heavy tasks, the Windows

laptop is more powerful because it's got

16GB of RAM and it's got like a more

powerful graphics card and processor. But

I keep wanting to go back to the MacBook,

mainly because the MacBook has a bigger

screen. It's slightly taller. It's like

half an inch taller and slightly wider,

but that tiny difference does make quite a

big difference. But the screen, the mini

LCD or the mini LED screen on the MacBook

Pro, is just so nice to look at. It's so

bright and vivid, and the contrast is so

much more contrasty than the Windows

laptop screen, whereas the Windows laptop

screen is fine, but it just looks kind of

washed out and not quite as contrasty

compared to the MacBook Pro screen. And I

kind of prefer the MacBook Pro's keyboard.

The speakers are kind of the same, but the

MacBook Pro just looks so much nicer. The

build quality feels so premium with this

metal body compared to this plastic body,

which makes it lighter, I guess. But I

think plastic is worse at dissipating

heat, so it gets hotter. The MacBook Pro

is a completely silent experience. I never

hear the fans boot up on this MacBook Pro

unless I'm playing a game. But with the

Windows device, if you want it on full

power mode, the fan is always going.

The only way to have a quiet experience on

the Windows laptop is to have it on

battery saver mode, power efficiency mode,

but then it slows the whole thing down

quite a lot. But I can have the MacBook

Pro on full power mode and the fans never

get noisy even when I'm video editing and

doing stuff on it. Although I have more

RAM on this one, and this one has 8GB of

RAM, but it doesn't really feel any slower

even though it's got half the amount of

RAM. So yeah, it's a really hard decision

to make. And really the main thing swaying

me towards the Windows laptop is just

purely the ability to play video games.

There's games on MacBook as well, but All

my favorite games are only on Windows.

Rainbow Six Siege, Diablo 4,

Red Dead Redemption 2 are the main games

I'm really enjoying now, and I can't play

any of those on the MacBook. So just

because I can play my games on Windows,

that's probably the reason why I'm going

to go for the Windows and refund the Apple

MacBook, even though it's so pretty and

premium to look at and it's just, it's so

nice to use. Compared to the Windows

laptop, which is just, you know, it's just

like a Windows plastic laptop. It's fine,

it's got touchscreen, it can do like

tablet mode like this if you bend it all

the way back, which is interesting, I

guess you could say. But purely

because I can play video games on this,

it's gonna make me choose it over the

really pretty MacBook. So it's kind of

like the MacBook Pro is like a really

attractive woman, but she's kind of stupid

and annoying personality-wise. And the

Windows laptop is like kind of a mid-tier

looking girl, but she's got a really fun

personality and she's not as annoying.

And I keep wanting to touch the MacBook,

but I get bored with it. But the Windows

laptop, I don't really want to touch it

that much, but it's more fun to play

around with, if you know what I mean. So I

think in conclusion, I will have to pick

probably the Windows laptop.
