Why I HATE Lost Ark - Terrible Game

Hello, welcome back to a new video game

review. So recently I've been playing the

brand new Lost Ark, which is another MMO

from Amazon Game Studios. You'd think

they'd give up after their first MMO

attempt kind of flopped. New World kind of

failed as a game within a month. It lost

nearly 70% of its player base. But no,

Amazon is back at it again with a brand

new MMO called Lost Ark. And as an avid

fan of MMOs and RPG-style games in

general, I just had to play this game.

Unfortunately, it was a massive

disappointment, and I found the game to be

in general very lacking in lustre. Okay,

so first off, before I get into the

criticisms of the game, there are a few

things I have to say about the game that

are in positive light. I have to say that

the character creation menu system

functionality is extremely impressive and

very in-depth and detailed. The amount of

customization you can put into your

characters in this game is absolutely

amazing and mind-blowing. I have never

come across a game that has this level of

character customization in it. It just

blew me away. You can adjust nearly every

single feature of your character's face

and body— skin color, skin hair, even the

width and the height of the eyes. You can

adjust how high or how low the nose, jaw,

mouth, eyes, eyebrows, ears— almost

everything on the face you can adjust, to

the point that I was even able to make a

fairly accurate representation of my

ex-girlfriend's face in the game. And I

was also really impressed with how

attractive the female model characters are

in this game. Now, in most MMOs, I find

the women to be in them very unattractive

and maybe I could even say they're pretty

ugly. But in Lost Ark, this is the first

time I've created a character and spent

hours in it just because I was just

completely in love with the look of my

character's face and I just could not stop

staring at her. Unfortunately, this is the

only good part of the game. Aside from the

extremely intricate character creation

system and menus, there's not really much

that I can say about the game that really

blew me away. It just felt kind of

annoying because after pouring hours and

hours into creating this perfect woman in

the game, when you're actually playing the

game, you can barely even see your

character because the camera angle is so

high up and so far away you can barely

even make out her face. Yes, you can zoom

in onto the character, but then you can't

really fight like that because it's way

too zoomed in and you can barely control

the character very well. You can just kind

of zoom in, have a look at the character

now and then, but it's not really supposed

to be there for actual fighting or playing

the game. When you're playing the game,

you've got to have the camera zoomed all

the way back out, which kind of makes it

pointless having such an intricate

character creation system. Now, my first

impressions of the game were I thought

this game looks exactly like Diablo 3,

and as an avid fan of Diablo, I just

wasn't really impressed with this game.

This game, Lost Ark, kind of feels like a

watered-down, diluted, bland version of

Diablo 3. It's as if it's trying to be

Diablo 3 and then completely failing in

every aspect in what made Diablo 3 an

actually good and high-quality game. Now,

since it's a more up-to-date and more

modern game, yes, it does look visually

more impressive than Diablo 3 does, but

it's kind of like Diablo 3's

better-looking, more attractive older

younger brother but has less of the

personality and none of the charm that

Diablo 3 has. Okay, so for the gameplay

mechanics and the core gameplay, what do

we have here? Basically, it's a very

run-of-the-mill standard, very

bog-standard MMO/RPG kind of game.

So you've just got hordes of enemies and

you just kind of hack and slash at them.

You get experience points and you get gold

so you can buy items in a shop. You level

up and you unlock more skills and you

become more powerful. I don't really have

to explain much here. If you know what an

RPG is or an MMO is, you already know what

this game is about. And unfortunately,

the gameplay in this game is extremely

boring. I just found myself to be smashing

and mashing the left mouse button. Now the

problem with this game is compared to with

other MMOs such as World of Warcraft. For

example, in World of Warcraft, you'd start

off the game with barely any skills,

maybe just one skill at the beginning.

And killing mobs and fighting enemies is a

very laborious and tedious task because

you've only got one skill that doesn't

really do much damage And attacking mobs

takes forever because you're not really

very powerful. But the beauty with games

like World of Warcraft is they knew how to

hook the player in by rewarding you with

new skills and new abilities as you

leveled up and became more powerful. It

made it addictive to want to keep on

grinding and grinding and get more levels

to unlock more abilities so you become

more powerful and you feel more powerful.

The problem with Lost Ark is they kind of

give you all of the abilities. Well, not

all of them, but they give you a lot of

abilities in the beginning. You have your

entire WASD, Q, E, and spacebar.

They already have skills assigned to them

straight from the beginning of the game.

And as someone who's new to the game, I

kind of felt a bit overwhelmed with all

these abilities just kind of shoved in my

face. I didn't know which ability did

what. I couldn't be bothered to read the

little tooltip that explains the different

kind of skills or abilities or effects

that each ability has. They all just kind

of did the same thing. They did damage and

they did different animations. So I ended

up just spamming WASD, Q, and E all the

time while smashing the left mouse button

to do basic attacks. It just didn't really

feel very fun because I didn't feel like I

earned the abilities. I was just kind of

given them straight from the beginning

before I even had any combat experience.

I've already got like 8 different

abilities and powers and spells. So my

main complaint for the game so far is just

that you're given too many abilities

straight from the beginning. It would have

been better if you start off with just

one, and as you progressed and leveled up,

you start unlocking more, or you earn some

kind of points and then you can choose

which abilities to unlock and choose which

kind of talent tree to go down to

specialize into. As for the story of the

game, the story of the game so far is

extremely boring. So you're just following

this group, this ragtag group of

mercenaries, then you arrive at some town,

then some powerful magic guy appears, and

then you've got to protect him from some

assassins, and then you go to a church.

Apparently he's healing people, and it's

just kind of like your typical RPG tropes,

fantasy elements. There's some kind of

evil power, you've got to stop it, I

guess. Now I do realize that the story of

the game is not supposed to be the main

draw in this kind of game. It's supposed

to be an addictive hack-and-slash game

that kind of hooks you in, makes you want

to play it over and over again until you

just cannot stop anymore. But for some

reason, I just didn't really feel hooked

into the game when I started playing it.

I felt instantaneously bored. Didn't

really feel like I enjoyed the combat.

The combat just didn't really give me much

of a challenge. There's no blocking or

countering. There is evasion, but you

really don't need to use it. Some of the

larger enemies do have like a wind-up

attack, and you can easily dodge out of

the way just by walking or running out of

the area of effect without even using the

spacebar to use the dodge evade move. So

the combat so far is just basically like

hack and slash against all these mobs that

come at you. And there are some nice fancy

visuals, but I didn't really feel like the

gameplay or the combat was very compelling

or very in-depth or challenging. Didn't

really make me want to play more. I also

get a very bad mouth in my taste knowing

that Amazon is behind this game because

what happened to New World? Are they still

working on New World? Did they just give

up on New World and they moved on to this

Lost Ark game? Are they just going to give

up on this game as well if it flops? I

don't know why Amazon Gaming Studios just

rubs me the wrong way. It's like they're

so desperate to have a smash hit video

game for some reason. It's just really

weird thinking that Amazon is behind

making this game. I don't know why Amazon

has a gaming studio in the first place,

because when I think of Amazon, I don't

really think of video games. I think of

toothpaste and toilet paper and other

random things around the house I need to

top up on. It's just like, imagine if

Tesco's or McDonald's decided to randomly

open a game studio. It's like they're

going, hey, we're kind of bored making

burgers, we're kind of bored just being a

supermarket, we're gonna make video games

now because that's cool, isn't it? I think

it would have been a better idea if Amazon

really desperately wanted to be a game

studio now, they shouldn't use the name

Amazon. They should have made like Like an

unknown new name that people wouldn't be

able to link to Amazon. So yeah, I'm not

really impressed with this Lost Ark video

game. I think it looks okay. The female

character models in the game are extremely

attractive and makes me feel kind of

depressed knowing that I'll never get a

girlfriend that looks as good as that.

The gameplay is extremely bland and I just

don't really feel like I would be able to

play this game long-term for a very long

amount of time. I'm gonna have to give

this game a lackluster 3.6 out

of 10. I would say do not buy, but since

the game is free, Which is pretty nice of

them to offer the game for free. I

remember New World was like £40. I guess

they got their money's worth for making

that load of rubbish.
