How I secretly film people without them knowing

Hello and welcome back to another episode

of Daniel at the River.

So today I want to talk about how and why

I secretly film people using my GoPro 7.

So it mainly began when I noticed that

some people enjoy watching me interact

with other people. It also helps me get

the video to 10 minutes. So you might be

wondering, why do I do it secretly? Why

don't I just walk up to people with the

camera in my hand and make it obvious that

several problems with that. Number one, I

just don't really feel comfortable walking

up to people and then filming them. I

think most people would not like it if a

stranger just came up to them and then

started filming without telling them why.

For me personally, I would find it very

irritating if someone just came up to me

and started filming me. And I also just

don't really feel very confident filming

in front of people. That's why I keep

coming to this river to make videos. It's

because there's no one else around here,

and I feel comfortable talking to myself

like a crazy person. So in order to avoid

feeling embarrassed and to avoid angering

people and getting told off for trying to

film them, the best solution that I could

come up with was to secretly film them

using a GoPro attached to my bag strap.

And this is my GoPro. I have it right here

attached to the clamp which clamps

onto my bag strap like so.

As you can see, it's upside down. Okay,

so I have the GoPro attached to where I

normally attach it. As you

can see, it's not very obvious that I have

a GoPro attached to my chest, and my top

tip is to wear dark colors so the GoPro

blends into whatever you're wearing. If

you wear a white shirt, for example,

obviously the GoPro is going to stand out

more and people are going to notice it.

And to make the GoPro less noticeable,

you may have realized that I have black

tape taped to the front of the GoPro.

That's because the GoPro has a

front-facing screen that shows you numbers

when you start recording, and this will

just give it away that you're filming. So

the best thing that I managed to do is—

well, you just cover up the screen using

black tape. It's not It's not rocket

science. I also turned off all of the

sounds the GoPro makes when you start

recording, and I also turned off the LED

lights. Usually there's a red light that

flashes and blinks when you're recording.

That can be very annoying, so I switched

all of those things off, covered the front

screen, covered the logos, and what you

have is a stealth mode GoPro.

Very hard to notice, especially when

you're wearing a black t-shirt. And you

may be wondering, don't people ever notice

that you're filming them? And the answer

is no, not really. Yes, sometimes when I'm

playing back the video, I do notice that

they're looking directly into the lens of

the GoPro, but that just means they've

noticed the GoPro. They still don't know

if I'm filming them. There's no way they

can actually tell if you're filming or not

unless they touch the GoPro, and most

people won't touch your stuff unless you

let them. Now there's a very nifty trick

that the GoPro can do, and that is to turn

off the display after 1 minute of filming.

So just imagine the scenario that you're

filming and then they ask you to stop

filming. You just say, I'm not filming,

and then you do this.

Look, the screen is turned off I'm not

filming, and the only way the screen will

turn itself back on is if you tap it. So

the only way they'll find out that you're

filming is if they ask you to touch the

screen to reactivate it, and no one's

going to ask you to do that. No one's

asked me to do that, so you'll be fine.

Look, this guy's copying me. He has a tent

by the river. And you might be thinking,

oh, it's not very nice of you, Daniel, to

secretly film people. And yeah, it's not

very nice, but I don't think it's very

nice when people leave rude comments about

me on my comment section calling me a

dickhead and telling me to fuck off. I

don't think that's very nice either, but

do you see me complaining about it? No.

And if you think about it, we're all being

filmed without our permission all of the

time. You walk into a shop, and the

security camera's filming you, you don't

know what they're going to do with that

video footage. When I worked in a petrol

station, we had hundreds and hundreds of

terabytes of footage from the security

cameras of customers. Who knows

if the manager downloaded it all and then

took it home and uploaded it somewhere.

You know those television programs where

they show you funny clips from CCTV

cameras of people trying to rob shops.

They just upload that to TV without asking

for anyone's permission. I just don't

think it's a very big deal. Everyone's

filming everyone, and why do they complain

anyway? It's not like their face is

secret. They go outside and thousands of

people see their faces anyway. Why would

you complain about thousands of people

seeing your face on a video online when

you don't really care if thousands of

people outside in public see your face

when they walk past you. I wonder what

they're doing. Maybe they're

fixing the bridge.

Maybe they're hiding a secret prize and

the first person to climb up there and

retrieve it Wins the prize.

Maybe not. Okay, so I've run out of

things to talk about when it comes to

secretly filming people. So for the last

two minutes of the video, I would like to

tell you about my. I would like to tell

you. I would like to tell you about my

upcoming meeting with a famous YouTuber

who goes by the name of Elvis. You may.

Know who he is. It's pretty bizarre, but

he is indeed flying all the way to Japan

to come and see me and to make videos with

me. I'm still kind of surprised that he's

going to spend so much money to fly all

the way to Japan from America just to make

a video with me where he's going to ask me

a bunch of questions, and all I have to do

is answer his questions and then we'll

hang out and make some vlogs, I guess.

And yeah, I'm feeling pretty nervous about

it. If the wind would stop blowing, that

would be great. I'm mainly

feeling nervous about it because if you've

ever seen me do an interview with

someone, I'm not very good at doing

interviews. The stupid people over there

keep banging. It's very hard to make a

video here. Especially with the wind

blowing as well. I'm just not very good at

doing interviews. I've done a few in the

past. George Trumbly from Japanese from

Zero did one interview with me.

I also did an interview with Nobita from

Japan, and they asked me these fairly

in-depth questions, complicated questions

that I just didn't really know the answer

to, or I didn't really have a very good

answer to. And if you've seen me do an

interview with anyone before, It's usually

them asking me questions and then me just

going, um, maybe, um,

yeah, I guess, I don't know. I'm just

not very good at doing interviews and I

get nervous and I freeze up.

And even if I have a good answer to one of

the questions, because I feel nervous,

it makes me— it makes it difficult for me

to, to give out the answer. I'm also

feeling a bit nervous about my skin. Some

of you may know that I don't have very

good skin, and sometimes I use beauty

filters and I use low-quality video to

hide it. And Elvis is going to use a good

camera, isn't he? He's a professional,

professional YouTuber, so he's going to

have good gear. He's going to have

probably a DSLR or a mirrorless camera at

least, and everyone's going to find out

how bad my skin is. All the freckles, the

blemishes, the scars,

the pimples,

and I'm not looking forward to people

making fun of me for that. I've always

felt pretty insecure about my skin. If I

get a big pimple, it just ruins my mood

for the entire week, and it will take

about a week for it to, to heal and go

away, and then there's a scar afterwards.

And then he's going to rely on me to show

him around and take him to fun places.

And since I know Japanese,

I'm guessing he's going to rely on me to

do all the talking with Japanese people.

So yeah, there's lots of things I'm

worried about. He asked me where we could

go to that would be fun to make a video.

In or at. I don't really know many fun

places in Osaka. Yeah, I live here.

I've lived here for nearly 2 years,

but I don't go out much. I don't

socialize. My favorite place is here at

the river. I don't think he would find it

very interesting. And it's my favorite

place because there's not many people.

All the people are on the other side.

Everyone else, they're all on that side of

the river, and that's, that's how I like

things. I like it when everyone is far

away from me. I am looking forward to

meeting him, and I like him. I think he's

a cool person, and it'll be interesting to

meet him. But there's, yeah, there's a few

things I'm worried about. I guess to most

people they sound like stupid things.
