It’s been 1 year since I became unemployed

Hey, so it's been exactly 1 year since I

quit my job at the petrol station. So if

you've been following my channel for a

while now, you might know that back in

2016 I got my job— I got a job at a petrol

station in the UK, and I worked there for

about 9 months, and I finally decided to

quit last year in August. I think

it was August or the end of July. I handed

in my notice and I had to do 2 weeks

before they let me go whilst I trained up

the new guy. And I absolutely hated that

job. I really hated it so much, and it

took me a lot of courage to finally say to

my boss that I wanted to quit. So this is

how it started. It was 2016. I just got

back from Taiwan. I was really upset

because I had this crush on this Taiwanese

girl And she wasn't interested in me. So

in order to try and get her to like me, I

wanted to go home back to England to get a

job and to save up money, and I wanted to

buy her plane tickets so she could come to

the UK because she kept saying how much

she would like to visit England. And I

thought if I buy her a plane ticket, she

might fall in love with me or something

stupid like that. So my dad told me that

they were looking for staff, sales

assistants, at the petrol station up the

road from my house. So I went up there,

applied for the job, and then a few days

later I got a phone call from the boss,

the manager at the petrol station. She

asked me to come for an interview, and the

first thing she said to me when I went up

there for the interview was, you do know

you have to be over 18 to apply for this

job? And I said— I laughed and I said,

I'm 28. And she didn't believe me, so I

had to show her ID. And she said, I

wouldn't sell you cigarettes or alcohol

without you showing me ID. She didn't

believe that I was 28. So she interviewed

me, she asked me a few questions, and then

I waited a few more days and she phoned me

again and she said that I got the job if I

still wanted it. And I said, yes, I do

still want it. And I started the next

week, the next Monday. I still remember my

first day at the petrol station. I just

stood behind the cash register just

watching what the others were doing, and

they tried explaining to me how to use the

cash register and what you have to do for

the job. It seemed quite basic, but there

was also a lot of things that you had to

remember. I felt really nervous. I felt

really awkward standing behind the cash

register. I felt like everyone was staring

at me, and it was really intimidating. I

felt really scared to have to stand behind

the cash register and interact with

customers. It was actually a night shift

job, but they didn't put me on night

straight away. I had to do— I had to do

about 4 weeks of training during the day

with the daytime staff. And then after

about 4 weeks, they finally put me onto

night shift with the 2 other night shift

guys. There was— and there was a

Bangladeshi guy who I really liked. He was

really nice, fun to be with, laid back,

but his English sucked. It was really hard

to understand, really difficult to

understand what he was saying most of the

time. And the second guy, this Nepalese

guy, who I really hated. He was the

complete opposite of the Bangladesh guy.

He was really serious. He was really

irritating. He had this condescending,

patronizing way of speaking, and if you

did something wrong, if you made a

mistake, he would completely flip out

about it and overreact. My first night

doing night shifts was really tough. I was

so tired when it got to around midnight.

I felt like I was falling asleep. I had to

drink coffees. I had to drink energy

drinks I even went into the toilet to

masturbate, which helped me perk up a

little bit. It energized me. It was also

really depressing having to leave my house

at 10 PM in the evening when it was pitch

black, and it was winter as well. So I, I

started at 10 PM and I finished at 6 AM,

and at 6 AM in the morning in winter,

it's still dark. So you go to work, it's

dark. You come home, it's dark, and you go

to sleep And then I woke up around 2

PM or 3 PM and it was starting to get dark

again. So it's like you live this life of

complete darkness most of the time. You

barely even got to see sunlight, and it

was so depressing. Even if I slept 10

hours during the day and I woke up at 7 or

8 PM in the evening, I would still feel

really tired. I didn't hate the job

itself. I thought the job was okay. It was

easy. You just went in, stand behind the

cash register serve customers, do some

baking, do some cooking, do a bit of

sweeping, cleaning. It was an easy job and

I was paid fairly well, better than

minimum wage because it was night shift.

And because it was night shift, it meant

that there were less customers, which I

really liked. The main thing I disliked

about the job was my coworker, the

Nepalese guy. He made going to work a

living hell. I hated him so much. He was

such an irritating person to work with.

At the beginning, everything was fine. We

would talk to each other and it wasn't too

bad, but he kept whinging and complaining

about every tiny mistake I made, and it

started to get on my nerves. And we got to

this point where we just kind of fell out

and we stopped talking. We would just be

standing there behind the cash register in

complete silence. He would just look at

the floor, I'd be looking at my phone. It

was really awkward. And then there were

other times when Incidents would happen.

For example,

people would drive off with petrol without

paying, or someone would shoplift and I

wouldn't notice, and then he would

completely go mental. He would have like

this mental breakdown. He started swearing

at me and shouting, and I didn't

understand why he cared so much. It's not

like we were going to get paid any less.

We get paid the same even if we get

shoplifted. Why does he care so much? The

most annoying thing is— was that he acted

like he was my boss, even though he wasn't

my boss, and he was a few years younger

than me, and he acted like he was in

charge all the time. Sometimes I wanted to

do things my way, or I wanted to do things

in a different order that he did things

in, and if I tried to do that, he would

tell me to stop, or he would say that he

would have to complain to the manager if I

kept cutting holes in the boxes. I used to

cut holes in boxes because It's easier to

take things out of a box if you just cut a

hole into it and pull stuff out instead of

taking the box down one by one, opening

it, taking the stuff out, and then closing

it again. It just— it was a lot easier if

you just cut a hole into it. And I would

come up with these little ideas or tricks

to save time, and he would whinge and

complain if I did things differently like

that. I lost interest in the Taiwanese

girl. I felt like it was a waste of time.

And I found this Japanese girl on the

internet, this single mother girlfriend,

and I saved up money, I went out to Japan

to see her, things didn't really work out,

and I came back to England and I carried

on with my petrol station job. Lots of

things happened at the petrol station job.

We got shoplifted, drunk Irish people came

in and started fighting, people would

steal petrol, the police would come often

because we had to report shoplifting and

thefts and violence and Irish people

fighting. There was even one time this

crazy guy came in. He had a shirt over his

face and he was shouting, I have a knife!

I have a knife! And then he stole loads of

vodka and cigarettes, and then we had to

call the police, and about 10 police

people came and they caught him within 20

minutes, which was kind of funny. I

accidentally doxxed my workplace and

someone told my boss about my YouTube

channel And I even got told off about my

YouTube channel. My boss saw my videos

where I was complaining about my job and

my coworker, and she told me to delete

those videos. She said that I can't make

videos about work anymore. And then one

night, my coworker, the Nepalese guy, he

was having another go at me, whinging

again, and I just lost it and I shouted at

him. I told him to stop telling me what to

do. I said that The way he speaks is

really rude and irritating. And then I

decided to quit. I told my boss that I

didn't want to work here anymore, and I

handed in my notice. And I had to train

the new guy, which was kind of irritating.

Why do I have to train the new guy? Just

because I'm English and he's English? I

didn't even want to be there anymore, but

I had to stay there for 2 weeks whilst I

had to train up the new guy. I felt like

that was a bit insulting. Anyway, the new

guy was really nice. He was this English

guy. He was really muscular. He said he

used to work as a gym trainer before

something happened and he quit his job.

He was a really nice guy, and if he was my

coworker instead of the Nepalese guy, I

wouldn't have quit the job because I would

have liked working with him. I don't have

anything against foreigners. It's just

that it's so annoying when you have to

work with someone and this— and you barely

understand what they're saying because

they can't even construct a proper

sentence in English. And their work ethic

is just kind of different to English

people. English people aren't so serious

in general about their work, I think.

But people from countries like Nepal,

they, they take work really seriously,

even if it's just a shitty job in a petrol

station. He acted like he was working in

NASA or some kind of difficult

job where there was lots of

responsibility, where his job was

important. It's not important, it's just a

stupid petrol station in the middle of the

countryside. That no one cares about.

Anyway, I just wanted to make a video to

remember the time when I used to work in a

petrol station doing night shifts. I can't

believe it's been a whole year now since I

quit. I can't believe that this time last

year I was doing night shifts in the

petrol station. I think that's so funny

now to look back on. And I want to give

myself a pat on the back for surviving a

whole year without having a proper job,

without being employed. And that's mainly

thanks to you guys who watch my videos and

make my dream of, of not having to work in

the petrol station a reality. So thanks,

Hello and welcome to today's Cooking with

Daniel. Okay, so today's a bit of a lazy

day. Not really going to do any proper

cooking. We just have this burger. It's a

brand new burger from 7-Eleven I picked up

last evening— yesterday evening. And I

think it's quite an interesting looking

burger. For starters, it's double wrapped.

You can see it's inside of a plastic

wrapping, and inside of the plastic

wrapping, it's wrapped again in some kind

of paper material. So this particular

burger is called an onion beef something

something something burger from this

island. Not quite sure what island it is.

As you can see from this label, it just

says onion beef and then something

something island onion, and it's

¥298, which is about $3 US. So it's not

that expensive. It's slightly more

expensive than a McDonald's Big Mac. And

it has microwave instructions: 500 watts,

1 minute 10 seconds; 1500 watts, 25

seconds. Here it says atatame te oishii,

which means warm it up and it tastes

yummy. And we have a list of ingredients.

At the top it says bun, and then we have

pepper mayo, followed by grilled onions,

and then bacon, and then beef patty, and

then finally barbecue sauce. And there's a

little image of the burger. Very nice.

So I now have the burger placed directly

into the microwave, and I'm just gonna

warm it up for about 10 seconds. I don't

think it's necessary to nuke it for a

whole minute. That'll just be kind of

gross.

So we're just gonna go for about 5 to 10

seconds, and we'll see how it turns out.

Be careful, it's very hot. Very hot. It

was only in there for about 20 seconds and

it's very piping hot. Okay, so we're

now about to unwrap the burger from its

wrapping. So I've unwrapped half of it,

and as you can see, there's a lot of

onions. And I can smell— there's a very

strong smell of onions coming directly

from it. That's what it looks like.

It's a bit of a mess. I've now finished

unwrapping the burger and this is what it

looks like. So the bun is a bit shriveled

up, looks a bit soggy. Can't be helped

because it's a microwave burger. You're

not really going to get a fresh burger

from a microwave burger. So I'm going to

wait for it to cool down a little bit and

then we'll open this up and see what's

inside. Opening up the onion burger.

So you can't really see much because

there's just a lot of onion. We can see

the pepper mayo and barbecue sauce on the

inside of the bun, and underneath all of

the onions there is a beef patty. Now I

was promised that there would be bacon,

and it's kind of difficult to see, but I

think this is the bacon right here.

I'll try and pull it out. Oh, there it is.

As you can see, it's not actually bacon,

but it's, you know, it's that Japanese

bacon which is kind of like— just tastes

like ham. Look, it's just one slice, one

strip of cheap Japanese bacon. Not very

impressive. And a lot of onions. We're

going to taste it. It's a

bit difficult to pick up. It's very messy.

And we've already spilled some of the

onions. Okay, I'm going to go in for a

It's actually

very good.

You can taste the black pepper mayonnaise,

and the onions are, are a very nice

addition to the burger.

Unfortunately, you can't really taste the

bacon. The bacon is just overpowered by

the onions.

Yeah, actually, um, it's a very good

burger. I would give it a 7 out of 10 on

my burger rating scale.
