Burying my dad’s ashes

That's my dad.

He's in a box.

Put 2 big logs into the fireplace. Burying the tree now. Those are my uncles and that's my mum.

Don't breathe in the dust. Yeah, don't breathe it in.

Why is not a nice day? Very sad day.

You can say it is nice because a bit of rain is useful. That's what the tree needs. Good for the tree. Yeah. Back it down just a little bit. Yeah. Otherwise it will sink. So what to do with this then?

It needs to be in contact with the roots of the tree. Yeah, so you can check that in the bucket. Your mum wants some time to go because we've prepared— we've had it prepared for the garden.

Yeah, see, we can put this water in around there. Yeah, we've got to put that in there now because otherwise It's going to take the water out of the root and root ball. Try and get some more. Yeah.

Can't believe it. My dad is under this tree. Oh look, someone wrote something. Rest in peace, Robert. Didn't know anyone— didn't know someone wrote something here. Guess it was my mum. It's an Acer Princeton Gold. Don't know what that is. Some kind of So weird. How can someone just one minute be a person and then the next minute they turn into powder and then they're under a tree?

Really strange.

This tree is supposed to get quite big, maybe as big as that one. It'll be interesting to see it grow. It's just a baby tree right now. A baby tree. Hello, Dad. No, it feels strange. I can't talk to it. Maybe if I become crazy enough, I'll start talking to the tree as if it's my dad. That'd be strange. I guess people, lots of people do stuff like that. They just start talking to gravestones. Ouch, stupid fire alarm. Hello, today I'm going to show you how to do a Fireplace, a wood burner, how to put wood into it and set it on fire. It's not as simple as you may imagine, actually. And you may have seen me use this before in previous videos. If not, I'll give you a little tutorial. So first of all, we have the wood basket and we have several tools. We have this thing that I use to open the door when it's too hot to touch. And we have a dustpan and brush and a wooden spoon. So first thing we have to do is take out any wood we have left over from yesterday. And then open the door, and what you'll see is We have a lot of ash from yesterday, and you just want to scrape it down into the tray below. There's little holes in here, and then you just push it around so it falls through the holes into the tray below, like so. And then you'll have a tray full of ash that we need to get rid of. That's quite a lot of ash. You do not want to drop this because it'll be a huge— it'll make a huge mess all over the floor, so be very careful to take it outside.

Okay, so the next job is we have to go and get more wood from the woodshed. So we take our basket and we also need our wood— wood collecting gloves. Okay, so this is the The woodshed. We're inside of the woodshed now, and as you can see, there's quite a lot of wood. Well, there's actually— there's not that much wood. There used to be a lot more. There used to be piles and piles of wood and logs that my dad brought in from last year, but we've burned most of it, so this is what's left. And we have separate piles of different types of wood. Okay, firstly, we have twigs of Over there in the corner, and then we have plywood here, and then more plywood here. This kind of wood. And then we have logs here. There's more logs outside, I need to bring them in.

Stupid thing.

Okay, now we have our wood collecting I'm going to show you how to build the fire. It's not as easy as you might think. You don't just shove a load of wood in there and then try and set it on fire because it won't catch if you do that. And when I first tried to do it when my dad was in the hospital, I just put in a load of wood randomly in hopes that it would catch on fire, and it didn't. The fire kept going out. So what you have to do is you need layers of different types of wood. You You work your way up from card and paper. So first we need some cardboard to get things going. And then we need some paper, bits of paper or card. Put that in. And then what you want is you want plywood. This is, um, it's made out of wood and catches on fire pretty easily. Put some of that in and some twigs on top. Some twigs will help the fire going— start going. And maybe a bit more plywood. And then maybe a small thin log would be nice. Something like this. Not too thick. Put that on top. And then after that's finished burning, and it's really hot inside, then you start putting these big, fat, thick logs in, and then they'll start burning. And these take a long time to burn. And that's about it, really. I'm not going to light it now because it's daytime, but when it gets darker, when the evening comes, I'll, I'll light it and show you how it goes. And that's it, really.
