What Is going WRONG With The Helldivers 2 Community？!

I don't know what's going on with the

Helldivers 2 community, but it seems to be

getting more and more toxic, with posts

like these appearing more and more often

on the subreddit. So this guy is basically

having a rant blaming streamers and

YouTubers for encouraging this farming

mentality, this farming behavior. As you

may know already, there's a certain type

of mission, a defend mission, where you

just farm loads of automatons on the top

of this mountain on this base, and you

gotta kill about 180 of them, and only

takes about 1 or 2 minutes. You just

deploy loads of sentries and mortars and

it just kills everything for you, and you

get a bunch of medals and XP in 2 minutes.

And people just farming the same mission

over and over again, even level 30+

people. And this is resulting in people

being high level and doing high level

difficulty missions, but they don't have

the skill set to be able to actually do

them well because they got to that level

by just spamming these really easy farming

missions. When they try the other

missions, like the ICBM missions or the

find and clear out Terminid structure

missions, they seem to just get destroyed

because the skills they learned from just

spamming sentries and going AFK don't

really translate too well to playing

actual missions where you've got to finish

objectives and you're constantly being

attacked by swarms of enemies. You've got

to avoid patrols and take out facilities

and nests. When you've just farmed your

way to level 50 and maxed everything out

just by doing the farming missions, then

you don't really have the skill set

required. And you see this guy's clearly

frustrated with this current situation.

So basically this guy says, the amount of

level 30+ defend mission farmers that

don't understand basic gameplay elements

such as shared resources. Now that's kind

of weird because I've never seen anyone

seem like they didn't understand that the

resources were shared. Apparently people

are getting kicked because the leader

thinks that people are stealing resources

from him, such as medals credits,

requisition points, other stuff like that,

samples as well. People seem to think

that— a lot of noobs think that people are

stealing stuff from them and they're just

getting kicks for that. I've never

experienced that so far. I thought it was

pretty obvious straight from the beginning

of the game that everything is shared. I

never thought, oh no, someone's stealing

my credits. And then he also says enemy

types and how to defeat them or how to

perform objective tasks is staggering.

It's honestly hard to wrap my brain around

some of the things I'm witnessing on

higher difficulties. And that's mainly

because people don't know how to fight

these other mobs like Chargers, Bile

Titans, using the meta tactics, which is

usually use the railgun, blow off the

Charger's front legs with 2 shots or maybe

1 shot, and then switch to a shotgun to

finish him off. Or aim for the head of the

Bile Titan as he's about to spew out

vomit, and then you can get a 1-shot

headshot on the Bile Titan in some cases.

Yeah, if all you're gonna do is farming

the Automaton missions, doing the Thin Out

the Numbers mission, then you won't know

some of the tactics to take out some of

the trickier enemies in the game. I don't

really feel like it's fair to blame

YouTubers or streamers for telling

everyone about this way to farm XP. If the

developers of the game wasn't intending on

people doing it this way, then they

shouldn't have implemented it into the

game. They should put like a, a cooldown

timer, or maybe made the mission more

difficult, or maybe just banned sentry

towers. I don't know, they should have

known that this was such an easy way to

farm missions. So you shouldn't blame

YouTubers and streamers. I I've been on

the receiving end of a bit of backlash as

well because I made a few videos saying,

hey guys, look at this way you can farm

stuff really easily. But I don't think

it's my fault just because they've added

something in the game that can be

exploited. I think it's just bad game

design and they should maybe fix it if

they don't want people to play like this.

There's not really any negative drawbacks

for people if they do want to play this

way. Some people assumed that if you kept

doing these missions and then you

cancelled out the operation and failed the

other 2, you can switch over to another

defense mission. They assumed that this

was making us lose planets and it was

contributing towards a loss when trying to

liberate a planet. The developer of the

game, Arrowhead, on Twitter has confirmed

that this is not the case and it doesn't

play any important factor towards making a

planet lose its liberation or losing a

planet's control. So people are just

fussing over nothing. The other negative

drawback of doing this is, yes, you get a

bunch of level 50 players who only play

this way, who don't really know how to

play the game apart from doing the farming

missions. And if you teamed up with them

and they're screwing up, then yeah, it can

get a bit frustrating. But I don't really

feel like it's something to stress out

over about and rage and make a stupid rant

post on Reddit over. Just try and be a bit

more patient, forgiving, and understand

that not everyone's a pro at the game and

they're gonna need time to learn how to

play the game. And it's a learning

experience and it's just a bit of fun,

and you gotta be patient with people and

give them the opportunity to learn and get

better, not just rage at them and kick

them from your group because you think

they're a noob. This game is kind of

interesting because it started off with a

very wholesome, light-hearted community

who were memeing about things like

fighting for democracy, spreading freedom,

really getting on board with the satirical

humor of the game. And now it's kind of

evolved into this kind of very toxic

mentality of you've got to have this

build, you've got to have the railgun,

you've got to have the energy shield

backpack, otherwise you're a noob. You're

a noob if you do the farming missions,

you're a noob if you do this, you're a

noob if you do that. Kick, kick, kick. I

don't know how the game's gone so toxic

and competitive. It's not like it's some

kind of PvP game where you've got to

no-life the game and spend loads of time

to get rank 10 or rank 15. It's not World

of Warcraft PvP mode, arena mode, where

you've actually got to have really good

skills to get anywhere in the game. This

is a very casual game. You just kill

endless hordes of insects or robots and

unlock medals so you can buy the weapons

and gear on the War Bonds page. It's not a

super competitive game. I don't know why

people are getting so hardcore and serious

about what is supposed to be a kind of

tongue-in-cheek silly casual game where

you just log in, have fun, blow up some

stuff, stuff, unlock some new guns and

armor. But some players, some very vocal

part of the toxic community,

is making the player base very toxic and

very unpleasant to be a part of. I've been

kicked many times from groups even though

I didn't even know why, because I didn't

have the right stratagems equipped. I

think people need to stop crying about how

other people play the game and just let

people play the game how they want to play

and you play it how you want to and stop

making such a big fuss over nothing

really, and just try to enjoy the game,

have some fun. It's not the end of the

world if your teammates don't have the

Railgun or don't have the Shield Generator

backpack, or if they want to try something

that's a little bit unusual, like, I don't

know, main weaponing the Stalwart

or the Machine Gun or the Flamethrower. I

never see anyone use those weapons because

they all feel pressured into using the

Railgun, although the Railgun is pretty

cool. It's kind of like an 18th century

musket where you get one shot and then you

got to reload it and then one shot. I had

this really cool moment in my team where

all 4 of us had the railgun and we were

like all going prone or kneeling down and

this big Bile Titan was coming towards us

and we were just like lining up like rank

and file like the old British Empire days

when they were lined up in a big column

with their muskets and fired off a salvo

of musket shots. We just fired off a salvo

of railgun shots into the Bile Titan's

head and blew up his head in one volley,

and then reloaded and then switched target

to the Charger and just one shot blew off

his head. It was a pretty cool moment. I

wish I recorded it. The railgun's pretty

cool. It's like a futuristic sci-fi

version of an 18th century musket where

you got to reload it every shot and it

takes forever.
