DO NOT BUY DJI Wireless Microphone

Hello, welcome back to a new video. So

today I want to talk about the DJI

wireless mics, which I have here in my

hand, or in my hands since I have 2 of

them. And I want to talk about why I don't

really like them. They're kind of rubbish

compared to other mics I've used, and

maybe they're a bit too overpriced for

what you get. So first of all, the price—

very expensive, £289 for

this wireless mic set. And sometimes I

really can't believe that I spent so much

money on a pair of mics that are not even

as good as a normal microphone that only

costs about £100, like the Rode USB-NT

Mini USB mic or the Blue Yeti microphones,

which, which I think offer superior sound

quality for the price. It's almost half,

well, more than half the price of these.

By the way, I'm not using them right now.

As you can see, I've got 2 of the mics in

the case. Currently recording this video

just using the built-in mic on my Samsung

Galaxy Flip Z4, and I'll switch over to

these mics now. The good thing about them

is you can use them with most smartphones

but not all, which is another problem that

I have which I'll come on to later. But

for now, I'll switch over to the mics so

you can see what the sound quality

difference is between the built-in Flip Z

internal mics and these mics. Okay, let's

switch.

Okay, I'm going to plug it in.

Testing, testing. Hello, can you hear me?

I'm currently using the DJI wireless mics

on my phone. Okay, for the rest of the

video I'll be using the DJI wireless mics,

and I guess it's up to you to decide if

this sounds better than the previous

earliest part of the video where I use the

internal built-in mics of my phone. It's

up to you. I guess it depends on whether

you like the sound of this or you like the

sound of my phone internal mic, or if you

have speakers that sound better with this

mic, or I don't know what kind of speakers

you're using anyway. So the advantages of

having a wireless mic is obviously you can

place the camera far away so you can have

like a larger frame. Maybe you want to sit

in front of the camera and you don't want

the camera so close to your face because

maybe you're ugly or you've got bad skin

like me, and you want to frame the camera

so you are smaller in the frame. But then

if you do that, you're going to be further

away from your internal mics on the phone,

and then you're going to sound bad. So the

good thing about having a wireless mic is

even if you're far away from the phone,

you're still going to sound good because

you're going to be holding the wireless

mics near to your face. Now that's one of

the benefits. It's kind of annoying

because every time I film a bit of video

and then I want to check the video and

edit it, I have to unplug the receiver

which plugs into USB-C. And the annoying

thing is you can't charge your phone

whilst the receiver is inside of the

phone. Let me just check quickly. Uh,

yeah, I can confirm by plugging in your

USB-C charging cable into the receiver,

which does have a USB-C port— this is my

red cable, it's my USB-C charging cable—

it will only charge the receiver of the

mics, but it won't charge your phone. So

if you're doing, for example, a very long

livestream which lasts like 10 hours,

your phone is not going to last 10 hours.

So you're going to be plugged— plugging

this into the receiver because that

doesn't last very long, and then your

phone's going to die. So I don't know how

you could charge the phone and the

receiver at the same time. I feel like

that's kind of a design flaw. I just

unplugged the receiver, so back to the

internal mics for now. As you can see,

there's USB-C port here which charges only

the receiver and not the phone, which kind

of sucks when you try and do a long

livestream. You've got an out here,

headphones hole here, and you've got a

power button here. And that's basically

it, it's pretty simple. And you do have—

you can take this off and slide in the

Lightning connector so you can connect it

to iPhones as well. And I have that

somewhere, I think I lost it actually

because I never use this with my iPhone.

It's somewhere, but you do get it within

this little charging case. And the

charging case is pretty cool. I mean,

look at this. It comes with this little

wind muff as well, which attaches to the

top. So that will just slot in there, and

it's a very nice looking case, and it

actually charges everything. Everything in

here right now is being charged by the

case, and then you charge the case by

plugging the case into a charger like

that. So you see these 3 lights? That

means how much battery you've got inside

of the case. And hold on, I can hear

a fire alarm. Someone set their house

on fire. Hopefully the fire alarm noise

doesn't disturb you. Well, it's disturbing

me, but I'll try and ignore it. So you can

see how much battery the individual

pieces— I mean, the transmitter, the

receiver, and the 2 mics on each side.

And it's nice you get 2 mics because you

can mic up 2 people if you're going to do

like a video interview.

I think they're testing the fire alarms.

I'm not sure, hold on.

Okay, I think they finished testing the

fire alarms. What was I saying? Oh yeah,

so this probably sounds okay as a mic. I

don't think they sound too bad, but the

problem is sometimes there's random

crackling. I don't know if you've noticed

it throughout this video, but I do notice

it and it's very irritating when I think

I've said something pretty well, like a

part of the video that I wanted to say,

and then I've said it into the mic and

then I listen back to the playback and

it's like crackling and popping in the

first couple of seconds. I don't know why

it does that, and I don't know how to fix

it. I've tried updating the firmware,

nothing seems to fix that. I've tried

using the mic on my phone, my iPhone, my

flip phone, my Samsung phones, my laptop,

and every single device I use has like

this weird popping or crackling sound

sometimes, not all the times. It's very

random. Also, I don't know if you can

notice, but when I say the word, the

letter P you can hear quite a lot of

popping and a lot of wind, even though I

have the wind muff on. Look.

So I got the wind muff on, I fluffed it

up, but still, when I say things like

Peter Pepper piped his ploughman's cousin,

I don't know, anything that starts with a

P, it sounds very bad. I don't know if

that's because of a design flaw with the

muffler. Maybe if you get a bigger

muffler, then it won't be such a problem,

but it's just kind of frustrating. The

other really frustrating thing that really

pissed me off about this mic, and it was

the reason why I wasn't using this mic—

actually, I bought this mic last year in

October and I barely used it until now

because I was forced to, because I

accidentally broke my Rode NT-USB Mini mic

because the stupid USB port broke off from

the circuit board inside because I was

apparently— I was too rough with

unplugging it and plugging the USB-C into

the port, and I guess I broke it off the

circuit board. I tried to fix it with

super glue, but it didn't work and had to

put it in the bin. So now I don't have any

mics apart from this DJI wireless mic,

and I don't want to have to go and buy a

new mic when I have this £289 expensive

wireless mics. And the reason why I didn't

want to use these mics in the first place

is because, as you can see, I placed my

Samsung S10+ phone in front of me. This is

actually my main vlogging camera— well,

it used to be. And I used to use the Rode

NT-USB Mini mic with this phone. I plug it

into the bottom and it was— and everything

was fine until that mic broke. And I

thought, okay, well, I'll just use the

wireless mics on this phone. Guess what?

It doesn't work. I don't understand why.

I tried everything. I tried fiddling with

the developer settings. I tried

downloading apps. I tried fiddling with

the DJI wireless mic settings. There's no

way to get these mics that I'm currently

using right now, in case you're wondering

where the sound's coming from. There's no

way to get these mics to work on this damn

phone. And it works on this phone.

So I don't understand, this is a Samsung

S10 Plus and the phone I'm using now is a

Samsung Flip Z4. They're both Samsungs,

how come it works on this one and it also

works on my iPhone 12 Mini completely

fine? It's just this Samsung S10 Plus

won't work. And I did some Googling and

what I found was the DJI wireless mics

don't work on older Samsung phones that

have the Exynos chipset inside of it. And

this has an Exynos chipset because it's a

Samsung S10 Plus, but the Galaxy Flip 4Z

has the Snapdragon or something. That's

why it works. It works with Snapdragon but

not Exynos, which is really frustrating

because I really like this phone for doing

my vlogs because it has a very low quality

selfie camera for my videos and the skin

filter is much better. I don't know why it

looks better on this phone, but I look way

more attractive and handsome and my skin

just looks way better on the old Samsung

S10 Plus compared to when I make a vlog on

my Samsung Flip 4Z, which has a much

higher definition selfie camera, which you

think is a good thing but actually is not

because it makes me look uglier, makes my

skin look worse. And also, even with the

beauty filter cranked up to max, I don't

look as good on this Flip 4 phone as I do

on the Samsung S10 Plus. That's why I only

want to use this, but I was forced to now

make my videos on the Flip Z4 because this

is the only phone that the wireless mics

work with. And no, I'm not using my iPhone

to make a vlog because they don't even

have a beauty filter, and iPhone cameras

make you look really ugly. But anyway, I

was forced to have to switch to my Samsung

Flip 4Z because it was either continue

using the Samsung S10+ and have really bad

audio, which I'm very against. I don't

believe that video quality and anything

else really matters as much as audio

quality, because if a video sounds bad,

people are not going to watch it. Okay,

if the video looks bad, people might still

not watch it, but I feel like people would

rather watch a video that looks bad but

sounds good than looks good but sounds

bad. Well, that's my personal experience

anyway. If I click on a video and it

sounds like they've recorded it in the

toilet and it's all echoey, there's no

mic, I don't even bother to watch the

video. I don't care how good it looks. If

it sounds terrible, I'm not gonna watch

it. So I had to choose between using my

favorite vlogging camera but have crappy

audio, or switch to my newer one, which I

think looks worse, but I can have good

audio quality because my wireless mics

work with it. Then yeah, I had to switch

to my newer phone because I don't want to

spend any more money. If I had like

millions of billions of pounds, then I

would just buy a new mic with a USB-C

wired cable that I can plug into my old

phone and I just use it like that.

Because I don't even see the point of

having a wireless mic really. I don't

really go outside and use it anyway. I

just make videos inside of my, inside of

my room, inside of my apartment. And the

wired mic was fine and it was way cheaper.

It was like £100, and you can probably get

a way cheaper wired mic just for like £50

or £60. I don't see the point of spending

£289 just so you can get 2 wireless mics

unless you're gonna do like street

interviews where you have to mic up your

interviewer and your interviewee.

So unfortunately, for those reasons, I

can't really recommend these mics. I think

it's way too expensive. It's frustrating

it doesn't work on older phones. I don't

see why it can't work on older phones.

It's got weird problems like crackling.

The wind muff is not very good. PPPP. See

what I'm talking about? And also the

battery life is abysmal. I think after

doing about 3 hours of live streaming,

the mics die. I have to put it back into

the case, switch out with the second mic

because that's fully charged, ready to go.

So it's good you get 2 because when— by

the time you've finished using one, which

only lasts a couple of hours, you can then

switch to the other one. Also, the

receiver, which is plugged in right now,

only lasts for a few hours too. So if you

want to do any kind of video recording

that's more than 4 hours, good luck,

unless you have like battery chargers or

your chargers capable of charging nearby

you available. So I can't really recommend

these wireless mics for those reasons,

and I have to give it a 6.2 out of 10.
