Oculus Quest 2 - The Best VR Headset Ever

Hello and welcome to my review of the

Oculus Quest 2. It's a VR gaming headset

and I bought it about 2 or 4

days ago. Cost €450, which is about $530

US, and I thought I'd just make a video

talking about this VR headset, which I

think is probably the best VR headset that

I've ever had. So my history in VR

is I used to have an HTC Vive,

and that one was like a traditional VR

headset where you have cables, you plug it

into your PC, and you play VR games that

are on Steam and on the PC,

and then you can play them on the headset.

And it wasn't really a great experience,

to be honest. The hand tracking Controller

tracking was really bad on the HTC Vive,

kept losing tracking even when I was in a

well-lit room. And the cables just made it

really frustrating to play games because

they kept tangling up and I kept getting

tangled up in the cables. And I kind of

got fed up with VR because it was just

annoying with the cables and the tracking

losing tracking. And I got fed up with my

HTC Vive and I stopped playing it. So fast

forward a few months to today, I actually

decided to get the Oculus Quest 2,

which you can see in front of me.

And this is honestly 100 million times

better than the HTC Vive.

So first of all, it is completely

wireless, no cables. As you can see, it's

completely standalone. You don't need to

connect it to a computer, you don't need

to have any cables. It is 100% wireless,

and it just feels so good to play VR games

and not have to worry about your wires

getting tangled up or knocking stuff over

or getting wrapped around your feet. It's

amazing playing VR without any wires.

And I also got this head strap. So this is

the original material head strap.

They call it a material head strap because

it's made out of this soft material. This

is what comes with it, and it's not very

good because the Oculus Quest 2 is kind of

front-heavy. If you just have this flimsy

head strap, um, you can feel a lot of

weight pulling down. And if you wear

glasses like I do— let me show you my

glasses— gets a bit uncomfortable.

So I definitely recommend getting this,

uh, what's it called?

It's called the Quest 2 Elite Strap,

and basically it's, um,

plastic around here, and you also have

this round black support thing that goes

on the back of your head, cups the back of

your skull very nicely, and it's really

easy to put on. The, the flimsy material

strap was really annoying. Let me get it

again. Shouldn't have thrown it away.

So to adjust the original strap, you had

to pull on these plastic tabs like this.

You had to pull it like this to tighten

it. It's really annoying. But with the

Elite strap, you've got this round knob

here, and you just twist it and it

tightens. So if you've got a really tiny

head, you can tighten it this much,

and then when you take it off, you just

unscrew it like this and

it elongates, and then you can take it

off, put it on. So this is what the

headset looks like on the inside, and if

you're wondering what it's like with

glasses, it's not bad. It's a bit of a

tight squeeze because my glasses frames

are a little bit big. Maybe your glasses

aren't as big as mine, but even with these

larger frames, it does fit in there quite

snugly. It's a bit of a tight squeeze,

but it's fine. If you use the original

strap, the material strap, it is a bit

uncomfortable because you've got the

weight of the Oculus Quest pulling down

and pushing your glasses into your nose,

and it was a bit painful. But with the

Elite Strap, I don't really have that

problem anymore. And it feels great

actually. Uh, there is a special extra

padded face cover you can buy and add,

which I'm interested in buying. Maybe

that'll make it even more comfortable,

but the shop's currently out of stock so I

can't get it yet. The Elite Strap costs

€40, which is about $50 maybe.

So these are the controllers of the Oculus

Quest 2.

Pretty standard VR controllers. You've got

the ring things on the top. I don't know

what the ring things are, but every single

VR headset controller seems to have these

rings at the top. So yeah, you got

the middle finger button on the back,

kind of like a trigger. You've got this

one at the top. You've got 2 joysticks

here. 2 buttons,

um, and on the headset itself you've got

some buttons. You've got volume,

volume button here,

adjust the volume, and then on the side

you have the power button, which is a bit

annoying because I was accidentally

pressing it a few times when I was

adjusting, when I was adjusting this bit.

I kept accidentally pressing it, but I got

used to it. And the, the speakers are

built into the head strap here, so you

don't have speakers coming over like the

Vive did. And then you have 4 cameras

in the corner, and they track the location

of the hand controllers. And I have to

say, the tracking is really good. The HTC

Vive had more cameras, but for some reason

the tracking software was really bad.

Kept losing, um, tracking and

I had to re-track it, and it was really

frustrating when you're playing Beat Saber

and then the controller just disappears.

That has never happened once with this. I

have played this for 2 days now and it

hasn't even lost control— I mean, lost

tracking of the controller— not even once.

Even when it's evening, nighttime, and

there's not much light in the room, it

tracks the controllers 100% perfectly.

Hasn't lost tracking even once. Really

impressive stuff there. And you might be

wondering what kind of games are on it

because it's not connected to a PC. You

have to buy games from the Oculus Store,

which is accessible from inside of the

headset. You can also get an app, and this

is the Oculus app. You have to log into

Facebook if you want to use the entire

device, so if you don't like Facebook or

you've been banned from Facebook you might

not want to get this because you're gonna

have trouble accessing, logging into it.

But I don't really mind logging into

Facebook. I don't really care if Facebook

are stealing my data and then selling it

back to me in ads. I don't really feel

like it's a big problem. They can spy on

me if they want to. It's not, not

something I worry about. So this is the

Oculus Quest app, and you can see the kind

of games they have for offer. Obviously

some games they're not gonna have, like

Half-Life: Alyx. It's just gonna be

completely unavailable because this is not

powerful enough to play AAA titles like

Half-Life: Alyx. But you do get a few AAA

games that have been redesigned for the

Quest 2. So you've got The Walking Dead:

Saints and Sinners, which is quite a

popular game. So you fight zombies,

you do quests, stuff like that.

And you've got Beat Saber, which is the

reason why I bought the thing in the first

place. Beat Saber is my favorite VR game

in the entire world. And I'm a bit of a

sedentary person. I don't really move

around a lot, so I need exercise, and I

don't like going outside. So I thought I

get VR, jump around, get some physical

activity, and it, it does work quite well

to get me moving about. So I play Beat

Saber, uh, Superhot's on it. That's quite

fun. Uh, they've got some— oh, they've got

Job Simulator. They've got some random

games that the Oculus developers made

specifically for the Quest 2, so you've

got Poker VR, Bowling.

Maybe Bowling is fun.

There's Ping Pong.

Um, what else? A lot of puzzle games.

Fishing. You want to do VR fishing, you

can do that.

These, these models look really creepy.

Look at this. Can you see they've got no

arms and they just got floating hands?

So yeah, those are quite, quite a big

collection of games, but They're not

exactly PC-grade AAA titles, they're just

like games you would expect on a

standalone VR headset. I think there's

quite a wide selection of variety that's

available, and I think they're gonna add

more games in the future. So yeah,

I don't really know what other games to

get. I'm quite happy with just playing

Beat Saber for the time being. Maybe Job

Simulator would be fun.

Wow, my internet's so slow.

So if you miss working, you can play Job

Simulator. There's also VRChat, you can

play VRChat. Uh,

yeah, I feel like there's quite a good

selection.

Battery lasts quite long, um, uses a What

does it use? It uses a single

AA battery and it lasts quite long.

The controllers are still on 100% and I've

used it for 2 days now. Compared to the

HTC Vive, which had 2 AA batteries and

kept going flat all the time, I had to buy

a massive pack of 40 AA batteries and I

used half of them already. And then the

Quest, you just charge it with a USB-C

cable, and it lasts quite long as well.

So yeah, that is the HTC— I mean, that is

the Oculus Quest 2. I'm extremely happy

with my purchase. It's a really nice piece

of kit, very light. You can easily put

this into your travel bag.

Very nice design. The UI inside

of the headset is really nice. The menu

layout's really clean. And modern. I feel

like Facebook— I mean, Oculus has done a

very, very good job at designing the

software and the hardware, so I give it an

8 out of 10. Probably the best VR headset

you can get right now if you want a

wireless standalone solution. Maybe you're

traveling, you don't want to lug around a

laptop with you, and you still want to

play VR, then this is the choice, the

option for you. If you want to get one,
