How to Prepare for Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

The DLC for Elden Ring, Shadow of the

Erdtree, is coming out very soon, and you

might be wondering, are you ready for the

new DLC? For many people, myself included,

it's been a while since I played Elden

Ring. The game was insanely popular around

2 years ago, and I played it for a few

months. I finished the game a few times,

did NG+ a few times, and I kind of just

forgot about the game. So I've had to jump

back into the game to brush up on my

skills, relearn the game and understand

some of the game mechanics. And you might

be thinking, what are you going to do when

Shadow of the Erdtree comes out? You're

going to make a new character? Are you

going to continue from your previous

character? What exactly is the best way to

prepare for this new DLC? Well, that's

what we're going to be talking about in

tonight's video. So first of all, you want

to make sure you have all of your

materials ready to upgrade things. You

want your smithing stones, your Somber

smithing stones, your Somber Ancient

Dragon smithing stones, and also the Glove

Warts to upgrade your Mimics. So there's

going to be obviously new weapons and new

gear and new stuff in the DLC, and it's

going to need stuff to upgrade. And you

want to prepare all this stuff ready for

before the DLC comes out because you don't

want to be caught with all these new

weapons. You want to try them all out,

you want to upgrade them, and you don't

want to be wasting time grinding and

trying to get the smithing stones when you

could be enjoying the new DLC content.

Now is the time to do the boring grinding

stuff whilst we wait for the release of

the DLC. And there's probably going to be

some really cool new weapons, and I can't

wait to upgrade them to the max to see

what kind of damage potential they can

really do. Also, you're going to want to

make sure you have plenty of Larval Tears

ready to go, because if you remember, the

only way to respec in Elden Ring was to

consume a Larval Tear, and they're

actually limited. So there's only a

certain amount of Larval Tears you can get

in the game. If you use all of them by

respeccing and there's none left, your

only choice left is to restart or play an

NG+ game and finish the game by beating

the final boss and triggering a New Game+,

which would then reset all the bosses,

and then you can go and collect Larval

Tears again. You're also going to want to

make sure that you have plenty of runes

saved up so you can level up your

character as soon as you can get into the

DLC. So there's many ways to farm runes.

People made loads of videos. My favorite

personal way to farm runes was by coming

here. It's called, um,

the Palace Approach Ledge Road. It's in

the area called Mogwyn. I'll explain how

to get to this area later. This area is

really important and it has a boss that

you have to defeat in order to gain access

to the DLC area. So you're going to have

to come here anyway. And this has this

area with all these sleeping enemies just

sitting there. And what you can do is if

you stand here and then do the special

attack on this weapon— by the way, the

weapon's called, uh, the Sacred Rennik

Sword. You get that by defeating the final

boss in Elden Ring, the big dinosaur,

glowy dinosaur looking thing. I forgot

what it's called. You get that weapon from

him, and then this weapon can do something

pretty cool like this. Does this AOE arc

that keeps going on and on and on, and

you'll get tens of thousands of runes.

And then to reset it so they will respawn

again, just simply go back to the Grace of

Sight and touch the Grace of Sight and

reset the spawns. So currently I have

about 1 million runes. Watch, when I do

this farming technique, I will gain about

I've just gained about 60,000 runes just

by pressing one button. Then you can go

further down here and there's more of

them. And this AoE spread attack keeps

going on and on for miles into the

distance, hitting almost everything. And I

just got another 40,000. So just in like

10 seconds, I grinded about 100,000 runes.

So yeah, you can just grind this area for

hours and hours and probably get millions

of runes. So you've got plenty of runes

ready for when the DLC hits. So many

people are debating whether you should

start a new character or just continue

from your previous character. Now that's

completely up to you. Obviously, if you

start a new character, you're going to

have to level up and go through the entire

game all over again. If you want to do

that so you can find out how the game

works again, you might have forgotten

because it's been a long time, you could

do that. But if you're lazy and just want

to leave off from where you left the game

last time with your current character,

you can do that as well. And you have to

go to this area called Mogwyn. Now I've

heard that this is where you're going to

access the DLC content from. So to get

to the Mogwyn area, you need to get to a

teleporter which is located in the

Consecrated Snowfields down here. But to

get access to the Consecrated Snowfields,

you need access to the mountain lift, the

Great Lift of Rold. But to get to the

Consecrated Snowfields, you need the

special medallions, Haligtree Left and

Right Medallions. I forgot where you get

them. There's the left medallion, I think

it's in the Castle of Sol in the mountain

area. And then the right medallion, you go

to the village of Arbucarius— I forgot

what the word is, it's been such a long

time since I played this damn game— and

then go to the area that I showed on the

map a few seconds ago. And then you find

this teleporter, it will take you to the

Mogwin area, and you end up in this

tunnel. And you go through the tunnel,

and then you see like this big underground

blood-looking mountainous place with

stars. It's kind of a cool-looking area.

And you see that glowing castle? That's

where the boss Mohg is gonna be, or Mogh,

M-O-G-H, I think his name is. I'll tell

you how to beat him later, but you have to

beat him in order to have access to the

DLC. Now many people are wondering what

level you should be to start the DLC.

Some are saying 100 or 150. So as you can

see, I am actually level 236, which is

quite surprising. I didn't realize I

played this game so much, but But I am

pretty high level. So people saying level

100 to 150 is usually where you're gonna

be when you finish the game and beat the

game, do NG+1. And that could be a good

starting zone to start trying to head for

Mogwyn and trying to take down the demigod

boss of Mohg. So make your way towards

that big mountain with the big castle on

top. That's where Mohg is gonna be. Just

head towards it, go through some

mountainous paths and go up it, and then

go up this elevator and you'll find Mohg.

So Mohg is protecting this kind of cocoon

thing with an arm coming out of it. Now

according to Miyazaki, the DLC's area is

not directly connected to the main game's

map and is accessed via a warp, with the

entrance being the withered arm hanging

from the cocoon in the Mohg, Lord of Blood

boss fight. So yeah, you're gonna have to

defeat Mohg to be able to get access to

this arm, which is going to give you

access to the DLC. Now Mohg isn't really a

very difficult boss, It was quite easy for

me after I realized that he's immune to

fire attacks. So I was using Flames of the

Redmane because that's one of my favorite

special affinities in the game, but he is

really strong against fire attacks. So I

had to completely change my build and

switch out my fire build to a blood build.

So it's funny because he's kind of like a

boss who does blood attacks, but he's also

really weak to blood attacks. So I just

switched to blood katanas And I completely

destroyed him with blood katanas. As you

can see, I'm using 2 greatswords at the

moment with fire effects on it, and it's

not really doing much, and he completely

wrecks me with a couple of his special

moves. So I switched to dual katanas,

the one where you do the seppuku to

activate the blood effect, and I also

chose this talisman that increases attack

power when there's blood effects happening

in the area. So he's going to be doing

blood effects, you're going to be doing

blood effects, so it's going to amplify

that talisman. The talisman is called Lord

of Blood's Exaltation. It does blood loss

in the vicinity increases attack power,

so it's really going to buff your damage

with all the blood loss going on. And I

also chose Crimson Amber Medallion,

increase HP, enhance critical hits,

increase stamina. So with me and my

mimic summon just slashing him and doing

blood attacks, you can see his life just

draining away so quickly. He'll do this

self-healing special attack which will do

loads of damage to you. When he does that,

I just spam potions, otherwise you're

gonna die after 2 hits of those. So make

sure you spam potions. So yeah, it didn't

really take too long. I kept spamming my

heavy attacks with the blood attacks and

finally killed him pretty easy as level

236. And then after you've beaten him,

you have this whole area to yourself. You

can go up to the cocooned hand. I read

that according to the lore this was his

sister. They were twins. There was a girl

and a boy, and he was the boy, and this is

his twin sister. And then she got

cocooned, I don't know, to try and save

her or something, but she didn't make it.

So I'm guessing when you get the DLC,

maybe something to do with that ring on

her finger will give you access to the

DLC. But yeah, this is what I've read on

the internet. So I hope that was helpful.

I hope you remember to stock up on

everything— runes, smithing stones,

the flower thing, any kind of ingredients

that might help your character upgrade

your character and weapons and stuff for

when DLC drops, that'd be good. I guess

it's up to you. I guess we'll see if I'll

be able to just completely steamroll

through the DLC as level 236. My character

is pretty powerful because I put a lot of

time into this game.
