DO NOT BUY Dark Souls Remastered on Switch

Hello, welcome back to a new video. So

recently I've been playing Dark Souls

Remastered on the Switch. Decided to buy

this because it was on a 50% off sale on

the Switch eStore, and as an avid fan of

Elden Ring and Souls games in general, I

just knew I had to pick this up when it

was on sale. Unfortunately, so far I

haven't really been impressed with its

performance on the Switch OLED, and I have

to say I find it a rather bland, boring

uninspired and rather lacking in luster

Switch port of a Dark Souls game. So a

little bit of back history about my Souls

gameplay history. I finished Elden Ring

about 3 times. I have 500 hours on Elden

Ring and I played Elden Ring a lot. I was

really into Elden Ring. I loved it. It was

a great game. So when I found out that I

could play a Dark Souls game on the Switch

OLED, I was pretty impressed and thought,

no way that they managed to pull this off.

It would have been nice to play Elden Ring

on the Switch OLED, but because of the

limiting hardware capabilities of the

Switch. It is a pretty old piece of

hardware now. No way it can play Elden

Ring, unlike the Steam Deck, which could

actually play Elden Ring flawlessly,

which is a pretty impressive feat of

technology. Obviously, since I sold my

Steam Deck to get the Switch OLED instead

because I thought that'd be a better

purchasing option for my, for my travels

through Asia and Thailand, I had to accept

some sacrifices. I wouldn't be able to

play AAA games like Elden Ring on the

Switch. So I guess Dark Souls Remastered

on the Switch OLED would have to be a

replacement and substitute for my itching

and craving of wanting to play Elden Ring

again. First impression when I played Dark

Souls Remastered on the Switch was I was

actually blown away with how similar it is

to Elden Ring. It's pretty much identical

to Elden Ring. And it makes me think— it

made me think that Elden Ring didn't

really bring anything new to the table in

terms of a Souls game, apart from the

whole— yeah, you got the open world map

and yeah, you got the mount, which is nice

and everything. But apart from the mount

and open world gameplay, there's not

really much difference to Elden Ring and

the Dark Souls games. So I played Dark

Souls Remastered and yeah, I was shocked

at how everything is pretty much the same

as Elden Ring and it just felt like I was

playing Elden Ring on the Switch, which

was pretty cool and everything, but then

also felt weird because almost everything

is the same as Elden Ring. So you got the

exact same kind of gameplay, nothing

different at all. You got light attack,

heavy attack, you got your block. You got

your dodge and your rolling and you got

your armor sets and different weapons you

can pick up along the way and equip

different weapons, shields, maybe a

two-hander, maybe take off some armor if

you want to move faster. And even the

leveling up system, you go to a bonfire,

as they're called in Dark Souls. In Elden

Ring, it's called a Grace of Sight. And

you just sit there and then you can refill

your health and you can level up. And it's

exactly the same. You go around the

castle, big medieval European-looking

castle, which I have to say is very

impressive. I did stand around just

staring and gawking at the impressiveness

of these massive castles in the game. So

again, Elden Ring didn't do anything new

with these big castles. It's just the same

old, same old. And you go through these

castles that are full of undead

zombie-looking things, which makes you

think, what the hell happened here? Was

there some kind of apocalypse? Where's all

the people? How come you're just running

through this castle That's pretty much

empty and it's just full of zombies. I

don't know what happened here because the

game does a terrible job at explaining the

story, but it's pretty scary, spooky, and

horrific. Anyway, you kill these zombie

things and you get points like a number.

In Elden Ring, they were called runes. I

don't know what they're called in this

game, but it's identical system.

You get these runes, you go to a bonfire,

you then pick your perks like stamina,

endurance, strength. Intelligence, stuff

like that to increase your stamina and

your amount of gear that you can carry.

It's exactly the same. I couldn't believe

that this is even a different game. It

basically looks like I'm playing Elden

Ring, but it doesn't look like Elden Ring.

I mean, it looks and feels like an Elden

Ring game, but it looks kind of, you know,

older because the graphics aren't as good.

But it just feels— the gameplay is exactly

the same as Elden Ring. Even things like

little text on the ground where you can

click on it And there's like a little

message that I'm guessing someone else

wrote. I think these are other players

because it is definitely connected to

online. And then you can see like a ghost

of the person who left the message run

around for a few seconds, just like Elden

Ring. Oh my God, this game is exactly like

Elden Ring. It's just like this company

FromSoftware is making the exact same game

over and over and over again. Even things

like Sekiro, exactly the same, but just in

a different setting. You also have corpses

lying around with little shiny lights that

you click on to pick up loot and you got

barrels and you got chests. And you go

around the castle and if you run into the

tables and desks, they will shatter and

splinter into little pieces. That's

actually quite good. Has good ragdoll

physics for a Switch game. You can run

into little pieces and they get stuck on

your foot and they get dragged around.

Even the bodies that you kill, you can

move the bodies around after they've died

and they just kind of flop around, flop

about, which is pretty funny and

entertaining. And yeah, the only

difference is you can't jump in the game.

But one annoying thing in the game that I

found really annoying is you have to

connect to the internet to load and save a

game. And when you turn the Switch off,

or if you just put it into sleep mode and

then you come back an hour later, it will

say, you have been disconnected, please

connect again. And then instead of just

leaving the game, pausing it, coming back

to it so you can pick up and play again,

you have to go back to the main menu,

wait for it to connect back to this stupid

internet, and then load your save from an

online cloud. It's really annoying. I

thought this was like an offline game.

Why is there internet connectivity

required to play this game. What if I'm

playing it on the plane or somewhere where

I don't have internet, or on a car trip

where I probably don't have internet?

Then I thought this game would be a good

offline role-playing game to do that, but

no, you need to be connected to the

internet to load and save games. I don't

know if there's an offline feature, but it

seems like being connected to the internet

is required to play this, which is a bit

frustrating. Now I think that if you've

played Elden Ring before and you're

looking for an Elden Ring portable

equivalent to play whilst you're out and

about and you don't have a Steam Deck,

then I guess this Dark Souls Remastered is

the only option you're gonna have. It's

the closest thing you'll be able to get to

actually playing Elden Ring whilst you're

out and about, unless you just want to get

a Steam Deck, then you could just play

Elden Ring. I don't see why you'd want to

play Dark Souls Remastered when you could

play Elden Ring, because Elden Ring is

basically better in almost every single

way. The only differences I see that Elden

Ring does better or Dark Souls Remastered

doesn't do is the whole Ashes of War

system and being able to customize and add

things to your weapon to enchant it and

give it bonuses. I don't know if Dark

Souls Remastered can do that as well

because I haven't gotten far enough into

the game, but it seems like a more

bare-bones version of Elden Ring. But if

you like the core gameplay of Elden Ring,

then Dark Souls Remastered is going to

satisfy that quench of thirst you might be

having. But as someone who has put 500

hours into Elden Ring, I didn't really

gain any kind of new satisfaction from

playing Dark Souls Remastered. I am glad I

bought it when it was on 50% discount

because I don't think I'd ever buy this

game if it was full price. Not for like

£50 or £40. I don't think this game would

be worth it. So for those reasons, I don't

know if I can recommend this game. If

you've never played Elden Ring and this is

one of the first Souls games that you're

going to play on the Switch, it's the only

Souls game on the Switch actually, so this

is your only option. I would Yes, get it

if it's on sale, but be prepared that this

is not going to bring anything new to the

table if you are an avid and experienced

Elden Ring player. I've got 500 hours in

Elden Ring, and this game didn't really

bring anything new to the table. It just

took things away from the table, in fact.

And I don't really see why I'd want to

play this when I could just play Elden

Ring instead, unless, you know, I'm in a

really dire situation where I don't have

access to my laptop.
