DO NOT BUY Jurassic World Evolution 2 - Very disappointing game

Hello, welcome back to a new video game

review. So today I've been playing the

brand new Jurassic World Evolution 2, and

I thought I'd make a quick video about why

I didn't really like the game. Even though

I'm an avid fan of the Jurassic Park and

Jurassic World series, and I'm also an

avid fan of park building games such as

RollerCoaster Tycoon, I thought this game

would be right up my alley.

Unfortunately, it was just one massive

disappointment. So in this game you've got

several modes. There's Chaos Theory,

there's a campaign, there's a sandbox

creative mode. And there's like a

challenge mode where you've got to create

a 5-star park. And I decided to start the

game off on the campaign mode. And the

campaign mode is basically just a

glorified tutorial. It just makes you do

all these really boring tasks. You've got

to fly the helicopters and drive the cars

and do these little missions such as

locating a Triceratops in the wild and

then tranquilizing it and then organizing

the transport to have it shipped and flown

over into the park. And all of these

little tasks, although at first they seem

kind of cool and the graphics are

definitely quite nice and, and they

definitely help make the game more

enjoyable, unfortunately good graphics

alone is not enough to make a game fun to

play. The gameplay is the most important

bit. So far in the campaign, it's just

very boring, very tedious. So you

basically just have to click on the

dinosaur, click on the location, the

destination, and then the helicopters go

and pick them up. And then you've got to

just do whatever the characters of the

campaign mode tell you to do. So they'll

tell you to build this, and they'll tell

you to collect that dinosaur, and to add

some water, and add some trees, and add

this building, add that. It's just a

tutorial. I felt like there was no point

playing the campaign. There's no real

story apart from we've got to get

dinosaurs, and then they have some

dialogue back and forth between

themselves, and there's a little bit of

backstory that you can listen to, which

Might be fun if you're a really big fan of

the Jurassic Park series. So I quickly got

bored of the campaign mode and decided to

try the sandbox mode. Unfortunately,

there's not really any challenge on the

sandbox mode because it's like a creative

mode. You don't have any challenge.

There's infinite money. The dinosaurs

don't really get angry or upset. You just

basically build whatever you want to

build. It's kind of like Minecraft

creative mode. It takes out all the

challenge of the game. I didn't really

like that. So I decided to try out the

challenge game mode, which is supposed to

be like a challenge. And in challenge

mode, they start you off with $6 million

and you've got a bunch of objectives to

achieve, such as get 5-star rating, have

like a few dinosaurs here, make sure the

guests are happy. And I started to create

my park. It's not really very difficult or

complicated to create a park. Basically

all you need are the, the main core

buildings where you do research and you

get the rangers. And then you need power,

power generators, and then everything

needs to be linked up with roads. And then

you need some stuff for the guests like

restaurants, hotels, restrooms. You just

have to basically build everything.

There's not really any pick and choosing.

You can't really specifically build a kind

of park that you would like to make that

is catered towards certain things

depending on which buildings you build.

You basically just have to build

everything. It's like having a talent tree

in World of Warcraft instead of having

your own preferred kind of playstyle

depending on which talents you choose and

having a limited amount of points. It's

like having a talent tree and then you

just have to get every single talent.

You've got infinite amount of points and

you can just unlock everything. It's kind

of boring. So you need to buy all of the

basic buildings obviously, and then you

just go along down the research trees.

You gotta start researching to unlock the

other buildings. It's kind of annoying

that you have to spend all this time

researching stuff. I wish all of the

buildings were just available from the

beginning, but you've kind of got to go

with the, the chain of buildings that are

available and then unlock them as you go

and then keep adding to the park. And this

is just kind of boring because you just

spend most of your time just building

stuff and then researching stuff so you

can build more stuff. And then there's a

dinosaur hatchery. So you've got this

hatchery kind of research lab where you

research different dinosaurs. And in order

to unlock the more interesting dinosaurs,

you've got to do more research and get

higher-paid scientists who can do the

research faster, more efficiently. And

then you can unlock dinosaurs and then

you've got to put them into the enclosures

and then you've got to keep the dinosaurs

happy. Basically, the game is like a

glorified Tamagotchi and The Sims. It's

like a combination of The Sims and the

Tamagotchi little gadget games we had back

in the '90s. And the dinosaurs have like

comfort levels, energy levels, happiness,

that kind of stuff. They've all got

different needs. Some like rocks, some

like trees, some like open areas.

And you just got to look after the

dinosaurs, and then you can kind of zoom

in and watch them walk around. It's a very

relaxing game, I have to say. The visuals

are very good, and the level of

customization is quite impressive. So for

the buildings, you can customize almost

everything. You can customize the way the

windows look and the doors look and what

kind of food they sell in the shop and

what kind of furniture. And also every

single part of the building, you can

choose the color. So you can have like red

here, a bit of black there. The

customization is pretty good, I have to

say. But apart from the customization,

there's not really that much else that is

really, really good. So like I said

before, you've got the rangers and they

can automatically do the tasks or you can

do the tasks yourself manually and they're

kind of like little minigames. You can

drive the Jeep around, you can use the

binoculars, you can fly the helicopters,

you can shoot the tranquilizer darts. And

this is fine in the beginning, but then it

gets kind of boring. You don't really want

to do it again afterwards and seems a bit

gimmicky. If you like just watching the

dinosaurs walk about and graze inside of

the enclosures, and you like looking after

them, making sure they're happy, and you

enjoy kind of managing a park and looking

after guests and making sure they're

happy, then you'd probably love this game.

But as someone who's used to high-octane

adrenaline-pumping games like Rainbow Six

and shooting games, this game didn't quite

meet my standards. I just felt bored.

Even the music is kind of designed to put

you to sleep. It's like very soothing

piano music. And yeah, you can zoom into

the enclosures and watch dinosaurs walk

around, and the graphics are very nice and

the physics are very cool. And yeah, it's

kind of, it's kind of nice in the

beginning. But then after a while, I did

get kind of bored. I lost interest. It's a

bit like a fish tank when you first get

fish. It's, it's interesting to watch the

fish swimming around, but then after about

20 minutes, you get a bit bored because

that's all they do. They don't do anything

else. And that's what I felt like with the

game. I actually thought about keeping the

game and playing it properly. But after an

hour, I just kind of lost interest. Even

though it's really pretty to look at, it

just didn't really feel like there was

much depth or much challenge. I guess the

challenge is how can you make a really

good park that makes a lot of money and

you're not losing money and you're making

lots of profits. Maybe that's the

challenge. And then you get these random

events like weather. Sometimes the

dinosaurs will try and break out and you

got to use the rangers to tranquilize them

and bring them back under control. But

apart from that, I don't really see much

excitement or fun that, that could be had

from the game. It's basically like having

a fish tank. You just watch it, look after

it, maintain it, make sure everything's

going well. There's some cool things like

the music's very nice. As someone who

watched the original Jurassic Park movies

when he was a kid, I think I was about 10

years old, my next-door neighbor Ricky

invited me and we went with his family,

and I really loved the movies and

listening to the music and the kind of

theme and the atmosphere of Jurassic Park

is there and definitely brings back a lot

of nostalgia and gave me some goosebumps.

But after that, it kind of wears off, and

then you realize, oh wait, I'm just

playing this game where you place

buildings and then you kind of drag out

roads and fences, you place dinosaurs,

and you watch the guests walk around.

It's just kind of dull. I got really fed

up with it pretty quickly, so Um, yeah, I

don't know if I could recommend it at this

price point. It's currently £50, which is

about $80, and it's just too expensive. I

don't want to pay $80, nearly $100, just

for like a fish tank simulator. Maybe if

the game came down to like $25 or $30,

I would consider buying the game again and

actually playing it, because it isn't a

bad game. It's just way too expensive for

what it is at the moment. I didn't really

feel like I was having amazing amounts of

fun for $80, so I'd rather use the money

for something else and wait until the game

comes down in price a little bit. But as

it is right now, I don't think I could

give it a recommended buy, and I have to

give it a 3.2 out of 10, unfortunately,

mainly because of the price. If it wasn't

for the price, I could maybe, maybe I

could bump the score up to a 6.2 out of

10. But for now, we'll have to leave it at

that.
