DO NOT BUY Samsung Z Flip 5

Hello, welcome back to a new video. So

today I want to talk about the Samsung

Galaxy Flip 5. So as you can see, this is

not the Samsung Flip 5, it's actually the

Samsung Flip 4 that I've been using for

about 9 months now. And I went to a

Samsung store the other day with my

girlfriend to have a look at the new

Samsung flip phones. I had a look at the

Samsung Flip 5 and the Samsung Fold 5,

and I did think about whether I wanted buy

the new Flip Z5 after using the Flip Z4.

And after playing around with the phone in

the store for about half an hour, I came

to my conclusion that I don't think I want

to buy the Flip 5 because there were

barely any new upgrades since the Flip 4.

The only big upgrade in the Flip 5 is

obviously the external display is much

bigger, so So you can see the external

display on the Flip 4 is kind of small.

It's just this little slot here. It only

takes up about 2.5% of the

external displays, like half of the

external faceplate is taken up by this

small display. And yeah, you got some

widgets like this. You can play the

YouTube app, but you can't watch videos,

you can just hear the audio. You can do

your alarms. You can set your timer, and

you can look at your calendar and the

weather and some other widgets. And I just

don't really feel like I ever— well, I

never use the external screen because I

don't really care about any of this stuff.

And there's nothing you can really do on

the external screen that is worth fiddling

around with this tiny screen. If you're

spending that much time fiddling around

with the tiny screen, why don't you just

open the phone and unlock it and like

do whatever you wanted to do on the big

screen, which is much easier. I actually

very rarely fold the phone because I don't

take this phone outside because it's kind

of heavy. I'd rather use my iPhone 12 Mini

in my pocket. I don't take this phone

outside, so I never flip it and put it

into my pocket. So it's always open like

this. I don't think I've ever flipped it,

um, when I'm inside the house. I never

flip it. There's just no need to. So I

don't really find myself using the

external screen. Now the external screen

in the Samsung Galaxy Flip 5Z is,

well, obviously way bigger. It covers the

entirety of this part, but still

fundamentally it's the same as this where

it's just using widgets. It's not like a

fully functional phone screen. The only

way you get a fully functional phone

screen on the external shell of a flip

phone is by getting the Samsung Galaxy

Fold 5. 5, and then you have a fully

featured phone that is on the external

display. But with the Flip version,

there's no fully functional external

display. It's just like widgets. Even with

the Flip 5, even though you've got the

bigger screen, it's still just widgets

like calendar widget, messaging widgets,

camera widget, and that's it really.

It's like the same widgets but on a bigger

screen. It's still kind of fiddly to use

because it's like half the size of what

the actual screen sizes because it's

folded. And I still don't see the point of

using the widgets when you can easily— it

takes half a second to open the phone up.

It really doesn't take any time. You might

be thinking, oh, use the external screen

to save you time opening it, but the

amount of time you spend struggling using

the smaller screen would be wasting more

time than if you just spent a second

opening the phone and then using the

full-screen apps and using the phone how

it's supposed to be used. So I don't

really see how you're going to save any

time by using the external screen widgets.

The only thing I like it for is for the

clock. So it's nice to just pick up your

phone, look at the clock, and it's there,

and you don't have to open the phone.

That's great, I guess. But apart

from that, I don't really see any use. I

mean, I never use this external screen

ever apart from looking at the time And

apart from the bigger external screen,

the Samsung Flip 5 basically has nothing

new. It has the same specs, the same

battery life, the same milliamp battery.

I think it has maybe a later generation,

a newer generation CPU,

but I really don't think that this CPU is

bad. I mean, my Flip 4 is pretty

fast and snappy at doing everything I

wanted to do. I never feel like Wow, this

phone is slow. Wow, I need a new updated

processor. So I don't really feel like the

new processor, you're going to notice much

of an improvement in the speed. And the

cameras, I think the cameras are basically

the same. I did play around with the

cameras and it's just the same wide-angle,

telephoto, and standard lens. Well, you

don't even get telephoto, it's just

wide-angle and standard lens and the

selfie camera. But the thing I noticed was

that when you use the external display

with the camera. I couldn't find a way to

flip the camera to the wide angle, so you

could only use the standard lens for the

external display camera mode, which is

kind of annoying because as a vlogger I

like to use the wide angle lens. And it

would have been nice to shoot a video like

this with the phone folded and use the

wide angle lens like a little GoPro,

because it's nice to be able to stand the

phone up on itself and use it as like a

mini tripod like that and take some videos

that way. But I couldn't see how you could

use a wide-angle lens. Maybe there's an

app that lets you do that. So as an owner

of the Samsung Galaxy Flip 4, I just don't

really see any good reason to buy the Flip

5. It's like $1,000 or something like

that. I did try the Fold 5, and that was a

much better experience. I actually used to

have the Samsung Fold 2 when it came out

back in 2020, and I thought it was pretty

good. And for some time, I actually

labeled it as the best phone I ever used,

but I ended up selling it because it was

so damn heavy. And my girlfriend at the

time dropped it on the floor and cracked

the corner, and it looked kind of ugly.

So I didn't like bringing it outside

because it was so damn heavy. I felt like

I had a brick in my pocket, and it was

just too big. I didn't really care about

it being that big. I tried the Fold 5,

and compared to the Fold 2, yeah, it's way

better. It's way lighter. It's actually

the same weight as my girlfriend's iPhone

13. So I don't really feel like— I don't

know, compared to like a big phone, the

Fold 5 doesn't really seem that much

heavier. And folding it out and using that

big wide screen was very nice. It was nice

holding it in your hand like that and you

had this big screen real estate. But I

don't really know what I'd do on it. I

mean, I guess I could open YouTube and

maybe also open Discord at the same time,

do some multitasking. But apart

from that, I don't really see how you

would justify spending— how much is it,

like $1,500? So expensive

for basically— it's just like a big

tablet. I mean, it's a small tablet. You

get tablets. So those were my thoughts on

the brand new Samsung Galaxy Flip 5Z. I

don't really feel like it's a massive

upgrade over the Flip 4. As someone who's

been using the Flip 4 for nearly 9 months

now, Actually, I don't even use this as my

main phone, so I still prefer my iPhone 12

Mini just because of the form factor and

it being smaller and lighter. I prioritize

smallness and lightness over the ability

to flip your phone. Maybe if they made

like an iPhone 12 Mini size phone that

could also flip, that would be pretty

cool. But as of right now, I feel like the

iPhone 12 Mini is the right size for

you could use an Apple Watch. I had a look

at the Apple Watches and they're basically

like very tiny iPhones. They've got apps,

you can do almost anything you can do on

the iPhone on the Apple Watch, just you

can't take photos or take videos.

I think you can take phone calls and do

like chatting, messaging pretty easily,

and maybe even watch YouTube. I think you

can watch YouTube on it.
