10 Tips and Tricks for the Nothing Phone 3a!

Hello, welcome back to a new video. So

I've been using my brand new Nothing Phone

3a for a bit now, and I've got some tips

and tricks if you've just got one yourself

recently. And yeah, it's a pretty good

phone so far, I've got no problems with

it. And for a £360 phone, which sounds

so cheap, you might think, oh, it must be

rubbish if it's so cheap, how can it be

any good if it's so cheap? Actually, it's

really good so far, and I just don't see

why After using this phone, I don't see

why you'd want to use something more

expensive or buy something that's over

£1,000 when really you're not really

getting much more for £1,000. Like the

latest iPhone's over £1,000, the only

thing you're going to get is probably a

better camera system, probably slightly

faster CPU, because to be honest, the CPU

in this one isn't the greatest. It's like

a mid-range bit of an older CPU, but it

still feels pretty snapping fast. So my

favorite little tips and tricks I've found

so far on the phone have been some So you

can go into settings and you can change

the power button. If you double press it,

you can make it open apps or perform a

function like the Action Button in the

iPhone. So if you double press it, I've

got mine set to turn on the torch, and you

can make it turn on anything like any app,

any shortcut by double pressing it. So

that's pretty useful. And I've got these

widgets, so if you hold it down, you can

add widgets. There's a bunch of nothing

widgets that come pre-installed with the

phone, like countdown clocks, batteries,

dates. Uh, there's a news widget where it

basically just reads out like a voice

narrating random news. I think it's

random. Listen, so if you press it, she

emphasized that her intention was to keep

Carly informed and supported, but her

actions were perceived as threatening by

the adoptive parents. It seems like it

just pulls random news articles and reads

it out in an AI voice, which is kind of

cool. And You can choose what kind of

topics you want to listen to, so maybe get

rid of entertainment—that might be a bit

boring—and then press it.

Hey, I don't know why it's playing music.

It's Tim, Nothing CFO. I'm stuck reading

you the news daily. Why did Nothing go

bankrupt? Because it had nothing better to

do. Just kidding, we're thriving. Next up

for more business news, Venice has

confirmed it will host Jeff Bezos's

wedding. Yeah, it just seems to read out

news. It's kind of interesting. Okay, so

there's also this compass widget which I

quite like. So you've got this compass

there, and if you move it around, it will

move with you. So I'm facing west,

northwest. So that's kind of cool if

you're lost and you need your compass.

And you've got this weather widget, so

there you go, weather. It's quite good.

And, um, one thing I like about Nothing

Phone is Unlike Samsung, it has the little

home bar, kind of like iOS, where you

swipe it around, you can change apps. So

yeah, it basically works the same as an

iPhone home bar. So you swipe it left and

right, it will go, go to other apps. And

then obviously if you swipe up, it will go

back to the home page. And you swipe,

hold swipe up, it'll go to like

multitasking. You can close stuff or do

split screen apps. So you can do Popup

view. So you've got a little popup view

here, which is quite good for YouTube

as well. So if you don't pay for premium

YouTube, you can't do background player.

But if you do the popup app thing like

this, and then just play some random video

and then minimize it. No, first you've got

to do this and then press that and then do

popup view. Yeah. And now you've got a

little popup player and you can play the

YouTube video. In the background like

that. I think

Don't monitor me, I've got this. Oh no, I

guess it doesn't. I guess you got to have

this little window open and then you can

resize it like that. Don't monitor me,

I've got this. And you can move it around

and yeah, it's quite, um, smooth. It

doesn't feel laggy or anything. So you can

have a pop-up player for YouTube like

that. And other tips, well, Hmm, let me

think. Oh yeah, you can enlarge the app

icon like that by holding it down and

pressing the expand button. So I quite

like having a really big icon for Maps

because I use it quite a lot and it's easy

to press if you just have a really big

icon. So you can do that for any app,

that's pretty useful.

And we've got this Glyph Interface System

thing which I don't really use to be

honest. I don't really know what's the

point of it. So you can have a glyph

timer, um,

5 minutes. You can set it 6 minutes,

and then the idea is,

um,

how should you turn it on?

It's got these lights on the back and they

pop up when you get a notification or

something else.

Music visualization. Uh, where's the

Oh, how do you turn it on?

Maybe you got to put the phone down like

No, it just flashes.

Bit weird. And then you've got this button

below the power button. If you press it,

it will take a screenshot and you can add

a note or voice memo. If you hold it down,

it will take a voice recording, so that

might be useful. It's a bit annoying they

don't let you map that button to anything

else. They really want you to use this

essential feature thing, which I don't

think is that good. Like the screenshot,

it doesn't let you do anything to the

screenshot. You can't resize it, you can't

crop it, you can't draw on it. But the

normal screenshot— no, not that one— the

normal screenshot, you can edit it like

this. You can crop it and

you can draw on it. So I'd rather use this

screenshot than this integrated

screenshot. It's a bit annoying, this

button, because I keep accidentally

pressing it as well.

Disruptions. The event scheduled between

June 24th and 26th is expected to bring

significant economic benefits to this.

Yeah, that news thing, I don't know if

you'd actually use that or not. Um, so

yeah, the glyphs. Also, you can do Face

ID to unlock or fingerprint scanner,

which is pretty good. And also you can do

it so as soon as you unlock it, it opens

straight away without having to swipe up,

so you can just pick it up pointing at

your face, it will open and unlock

straight away without having to press

anything. That's so good. My iPhone

doesn't do that. So you can do fingerprint

scan as well like that.

Oh, like that. And, um,

yeah, it only seems to do that on Face ID.

So yeah, you do Face ID. So imagine you've

got it on the table like that. Also, the

good thing about the camera bump, the

camera bump is horizontal like that, not

just in the corner like the iPhone. So

when you put it down on the surface it's

not gonna rock. It doesn't rock— okay,

it rocks slightly.

That's weird, I thought it wouldn't rock

at all. So what is that, camera bump not

exactly flat or what?

Anyway, so yeah, you pick it up, point at

your face, and then yeah,

basically unlock straight away, which is

pretty cool. The only thing about the

compass thing is it doesn't work unless

you tap it. So you gotta tap it and then

it starts tracking you. So yeah, that's

pretty good. And yeah, I do quite like the

phone so far. Um, what else is there

really? Torch. Oh, set up home.

That's weird.

Yeah, for some reason it changed my double

press gesture setting. Now I put it back

to torch, so that's pretty good. It would

be nice if you hold it long, it could do a

different action, but it just, um,

it opens Google Assistant.

And yeah, you can do split screen just

like Samsung. So you've got 2 apps, I've

got YouTube and Google Maps. You just

swipe up, long hold it, press the top

icon, do split view. So YouTube open.

Oops. Oh, fuck's sake. So yeah,

I can have YouTube open, I can watch a

video whilst doing something on the bottom

part of the screen because the phone's so

big. It's a pretty big screen, so you can

have plenty of space at the top and at the

bottom to be able to do something else

whilst having something at the top. So you

can also do rotate, rotate, and you have

it side by side like that,

which could be useful, I guess. Maybe not.
