Pick Lenovo Legion Go Instead of ROG ALLY： Here's Why

Hello, welcome back to a new video. So

recently I've been using this ROG Ally as

my main gaming device, but the Lenovo

Legion Go does seem very interesting and

seems like it might actually be the better

and superior gaming device that I kind of

wish I picked over the ROG Ally. And in

today's video, I'm going to be talking

about why the Legion Go is actually the

better device. So first of all, the most

obvious thing I would say is the screen

size on the Legion Go is much bigger than

the screen size on the ROG Ally. The ROG

Ally only has about a 7-inch screen,

which is okay to look at, especially when

you're handheld, handheld gaming like

this, you've got the screen quite close to

your face, so it doesn't really matter if

it's that small. But the Legion Go just

has a much better screen to look at for

long periods of time. The 8.8-inch screen

on the Lenovo Legion Go is much more

pleasurable and enjoyable to look at,

especially if you've got bad eyesight. So

as you can see, I'm wearing glasses and my

eyesight is not very good, and I spent a

couple of hours playing Diablo 4 on the

ROG Ally, and after I finished,

everything was blurry. My vision was

completely destroyed. It was all blurry.

Took a few hours before it could go back

to normal. But I think that on the Legion

Go with the bigger screen, 8.8 inches,

almost 9 inches, with that bigger display,

I feel like you're not going to have this

problem of your eyes going blurry trying

to squint at this tiny screen. Because

even if it is close to your face, it is

smaller and the things on the screen are

smaller, and you are going to notice that

if you're going to be gaming for long

periods of time. Secondly, the detachable

controllers on the Legion Go are really

cool and really interesting. So as you may

know, There is a massive built-in

kickstand on the Legion Go, which is also

really good, kind of like the Switch

OLED's kickstand. It covers the entire

back and it flips out and you can put it

at almost any angle, nearly 180 degrees.

So if you've got a surface to put it onto,

it's really useful. You don't need to

carry around a separate little plastic

stand like this because the ROG Ally

doesn't have a built-in stand. I need to

use this separate stand all the time to be

able to prop it up anywhere, which is kind

of annoying. I mean, I could super glue

this onto the back of the ROG Ally and

then it will become a built-in stand. But

then, you know, if I want to sell this

later, no one's going to buy it because

it's got a super glued on plastic stand on

it and it looks really ugly. You could DIY

your own built-in stand if you really

wanted to, but there's just no options to

really fit a built-in stand. I mean, they

could have put a built-in stand across the

back of here and it would have been fine,

but I guess they decided not to. So I

really like the built-in stand on the

Legion Go, and the great thing about it is

if you've got a table, then you can just

prop it up somewhere and then detach the

controllers, and then they become like a

keyboard and mouse setup. So you've got

the left controller which detaches and

becomes your movement. So instead of using

WASD buttons on the keyboard, you've got

the thumbstick for movement, which is

actually much better than WASD. And then

you've got the left trigger for aiming

down the sights and left bumper for things

like grenades or other gadgets you might

have. And on the right controller, it

becomes a mouse, and it's like a vertical

mouse, which if you think about it, when

you're playing shooters, which is my

favorite type of game— now you see, the

problem with gaming consoles that are

handheld, they are really good for gaming

but there's one type of game that really

sucks on them, and that is FPS,

first-person shooters online, where you

have to be very quick and response time is

very important. You have to be responsive

and be able to have accuracy, and you just

can't really get that with a control

layout with the thumbstick and joypads

like that on a controller system. So being

able to have a built-in keyboard and mouse

experience on the Legion Go just makes it

so that FPS games on these devices are

actually playable on the Legion Go unlike

any other console. So you've got the right

controller which turns into vertical

mouse, which if you think about it is kind

of like an actual gun because guns have a

grip where you hold it like that and

you've got your finger here for the

trigger, which is kind of like the right

controller vertical mouse setup on the

Legion Go. It's kind of like that. You've

got a vertical grip, you're holding like

that, you've got the triggers on the back

which acts like the trigger to shoot your

gun. One of my favorite games to play is

Rainbow Six Siege, but unfortunately on

the ROG Ally it's not a very fun game to

play because trying to be competitive

against other players online whilst you

only have a controller a control pad, and

you don't really have like a built-in

mouse and keyboard kind of option unless

you get a separate mouse and keyboard.

It's kind of annoying because it makes me

not able to enjoy my favorite game. But

with the Legion Go, you can play FPS

shooters using that built-in vertical

mouse grip controller kind of setup and

style. And I feel like that is a really

cool and interesting way of using

detachable controllers that you don't

really see in any other kind of handheld.

Even the Switch OLED, which has detachable

Joy-Cons and it's the one that pioneered

the whole idea, doesn't have an option to

be able to play shooters using the

Joy-Con, which is kind of strange if you

think about it. The other cool thing about

being able to remove the controllers is

you can turn it into kind of like a

Windows tablet and have like a mini laptop

experience. So you could detach the

controllers, and this is what I personally

would do if I had one, because I usually

use my ROG Ally with the keyboard and

mouse, and I use it plugged into a bigger

monitor. I use it like a main computer,

and if I had the Lenovo Legion Go, I could

do that and it would look sleeker. So I

would have it on its kickstand its own

kickstand, and I'd detach the controllers,

and what you end up with is just like a

slate, a nice clean sleek looking slate,

kind of like the Switch OLED when you

remove the Joy-Cons, kind of like a

Windows tablet, but it's not a Windows

tablet, it's a Lenovo tablet that runs

Windows and plays AAA games really well,

which as far as I know, I don't know of

any kind of Windows Surface tablet that

can do that apart from the really

expensive like $3,000, $4,000 Surface

Studio 2, which has an RTX 4090 or

something crazy like that. So So there is

a Windows Surface tablet that can do

gaming like that, but it's just insanely

expensive and not affordable for most

people. So with the Legion Go, you kind of

have this sleek-looking tablet that has

its own kickstand, detached controllers,

and it's basically like a computer with a

touchscreen that can also do really good

gaming. And you can put like a little

detachable external keyboard and a mouse,

and you're ready to go with like a mini

computer setup. With an 8.8-inch screen,

so it's going to be extremely portable

unlike some kind of notebook or laptop.

The prices of the 2 devices are also very

similar. I think the ROG Ally sells for

about $650 now. I'm not sure if there's

sales or not. And the Lenovo Legion Go

goes for about $750,

I think. So it's only an extra $100, and

what you get in return for the extra money

is get a much bigger display, much better

looking screen, even though it doesn't

have VRR, which some people argue is big

drawback, and it's actually a deal

breaker. But I don't personally care too

much about VRR. I think it looks fine as

it is. And you also get the built-in

kickstand and the detachable controller,

so you can play in a variety of different

ways that you can't really do with the ROG

Ally unless you bring an external control

pad, which is just going to bulk up your

backpack. If you want to travel light, I

feel like the Legion Go would be a much

more compact option, even though it is a

slightly bulkier and bigger device,

because it has built-in options like

built-in kickstand and detachable

controllers. It kind of has more

portability and functionality than the ROG

Ally. Plus, I personally think it looks

way cooler. I'm a bigger fan of the kind

of design it has. Has more of a

simplistic, sleek design, whereas ROG Ally

kind of has that gamer aesthetic because

it's ROG. All of ROG products has that

gamer aesthetics because they're called

the Republic of Gamers, so it kind of

makes sense. But if you're not into the

gamer look, then you might not like the

design of the ROG Ally. So I would have to

say I'd recommend the Legion Go And if I

could go back in time, I would not buy the

ROG Ally. I'd wait for the Legion Go to

come out just so I can have those extra

things and the bigger screen size. So I

really am looking forward to getting one

for myself when it finally gets released

in Thailand. Unfortunately, living in

Thailand means all the tech comes out

months later. When the ROG Ally came out

back in June or July, I think it wasn't

actually in the shops here until August

or September. So I had to wait months to

get my ROG Ally. So I think Legion Go will

be coming out in Thailand in a few months

and then I'll get my copy. And then I'll

be able to actually see if it is better

than ROG Ally and have to sell one of
