My First Job And How I Got Fired (the full story)

Hey, welcome back to another video. In

this video, I want to talk about my first

ever job and how I got fired. So at the

age of 18, after about 2 solid years of

World of Warcraft addiction, I finally

started to break free of video game

addiction and I decided to go to the job

center. And the job center found me a job

pretty quickly, which is kind of rare

because these days they don't even bother

helping you look for a job. Anyway, they

found me a job in this, um, a pub, a pub

restaurant slash hotel. And, uh,

I was a dishwasher. I worked in the

kitchen as a kitchen porter, and it was

probably one of my most favorite jobs so

far because I didn't have to work with

anyone. I worked on my own. I just went

into the kitchen and then started doing

washing up. It was a pretty great job. At

the time I was only 18, so they only paid

me £4.70. It's terrible.

Terrible. I don't understand why an

18-year-old gets paid £4.70, but a

20-year-old, he gets paid minimum wage,

£6.90 or something. It's only 2 years.

Why does an 18-year-old deserve to get

paid less? It doesn't make any sense.

Anyway, I went into the restaurant, I had

the interview. It was this old woman,

maybe 60 years old, and this fat guy,

her husband, and We just talked a little.

It wasn't really like a formal interview,

and it was okay. After a while, I started

to realize that I really hated the fat

guy, the husband. He was like a really— a

real piece of shit. He would be swearing

all the time and shouting at his wife,

like, like really shouting at her really

abusive stuff. Sometimes he would even get

physical, like start pushing her around or

Like physical, like nearing physical

violence kind of stuff. And he would just

do it in the kitchen when I was in there

washing up, and it was so awkward. I

didn't know what to do. I just ignored it,

pretended it wasn't happening. Like, what

could I do? He's like this huge gigantic

fat guy, and I'm like this tiny little

skinny guy. I couldn't do anything, so I

just kind of ignored it, let it happen.

And a lot of times there wasn't really

many customers at at the restaurant and

the woman, she would make food for me,

make me lunch. She would ask me, Daniel,

would you like something to eat? And I'd

say, yeah, and then I'd have like a

sausage sandwich or a burger. And then the

fat guy, the husband, he would come in and

say, oh, you're giving away more than

you're selling, you effing bitch, or

something like that. It was terrible. I

felt so sorry for her. I don't know what

happened in the house, like in private. I

don't know if he was like more abusive or

more violent. He was just such a shithole

of a human being. Ugh. At first

he was quite friendly to me, like he would

crack jokes and say funny things like,

oh, Daniel's getting drunk again, and I

just went, haha. But after a while he kind

of didn't— he started to dislike me

because I don't talk at all. I don't talk

to people. You know, unless people

initiate a conversation with me, I don't

say anything, and I don't laugh or joke.

So I come across as very stuck-up and

unfriendly. So after a while, he kind of

caught on to that, and he just completely

stopped talking to me altogether. When he

needed to say something to me, he would

say, can you tell Daniel to do blah blah

blah to his wife? And then his wife would

tell me. It was really, really fucking

stupid. Anyway, I worked

there for about a year and a half like

this with these 2 elderly people who ran

the restaurant, pub, hotel. And basically

my job was to wash dishes, and sometimes

I'd help with food preparation, like I'd

cut up vegetables, or sometimes they'd

give me like a bag of pig hearts to cut up

for their dogs. It was disgusting. And

there's also a hotel And the rooms needed

to be cleaned and changed. And it was

a small hotel in a small village.

Sometimes you'd get young couples that

would book a room in the middle of the

day, not for sleeping, for— I think you

already know what for. And they would just

come into the room, um, and do their

business. And I'm cleaning the other

rooms, like the next rooms. I'm in the

next rooms and I can hear everything that

they're doing. It was so awkward. It was

like, it was like what a porn sounds like,

what porno sounds like, but actually

happening in real life in the, in the room

next to you. It was, it was really awkward

and strange, but really arousing at the

same time. After they finished,

I had to go in and clean the room and sort

it out. Sometimes there were condoms in

the bin. And then there was this one time

I found a woman's underwear just lying on

the floor. I don't know how you could

leave a hotel and forget to put on your

underwear. And then there was this girl I

used to work with, and she was, she was

quite cute. And sometimes we'd have to

clean the hotel rooms together, just the

two of us, and I felt kind of attracted to

her. And it was really awkward. I didn't

know what to say to her. I never really

spoke to her. She would say, how are you?

How's things going? And I'd just be like

It's okay, I'm okay. And then that'd be

it. We'd never talk or anything. It was

just super awkward. And sometimes I'd

have to take food out to the customers,

to the diners, like a waiter. And I

was so bad. I was just so nervous

carrying the plates of food. All the peas

in the food would like roll about.

Sometimes like a pea or two would drop

onto the floor. And then I just put the

plates down onto the table. I wouldn't say

So who's having the shepherd's pie? I just

put it down in front of any random person

and then I just walk off. And then I look

back and I can see them like reshuffling

the plates, like giving the plates to the

correct person. I was such a terrible

waiter. After about a year of this,

those— the old woman and the fat guy,

they left. I don't know if they retired or

if it was because There was like no

business, no customers. Maybe they got

replaced as managers. Anyway, new managers

came in, this Scottish guy. He kept

swearing at me, like he kept saying stuff

like, Daniel, you're too fucking slow.

Can you do this fucking faster? I don't

pay you to stand around all fucking day.

He was so verbally abusive,

and he also had a wife. There was this one

time when he was boiling potatoes in the

pot And he just walked out and he was gone

for like 10 to 15 minutes. And then I

noticed the water was boiling violently

and I wasn't really sure what to do.

Like, was it supposed to be doing that?

Was he doing that on purpose? And then he

came back in after 20 minutes and he saw

the potatoes like boiling over, boiling

dry, and he just like went crazy. He

started swearing like, what the fuck are

you doing, Daniel? Why are you just

standing there? Aren't you watching my

potatoes? You just let my potatoes boil

dry for fuck's sake! He went completely

mental, and I was like, I didn't— I just

said I didn't know, you walked out. Well,

I didn't say that because I was too

scared, but I wanted to say, you shouldn't

have walked out in the middle of cooking

potatoes then, you dumb twat! I don't even

know where he went. He was so lazy. He

wouldn't even help out in the kitchen or

the restaurant. He would just do some

cooking when it was like lunchtime. But

when it wasn't cooking time, he would just

be in, in his hotel room because they were

living in one of the hotel rooms, and he'd

just be in his hotel room playing Xbox. I

saw him lying on the bed. He had an Xbox

connected up to the TV on the wall. He was

just lying there playing Xbox the whole

time. And then one day I went into work,

I went into the kitchen, and then there

was this young guy standing at the sink.

Doing my job, cleaning the dishes. So what

the hell's going on? Why have you gotten a

new person to do my job? Is he replacing

me? Is he firing me? And I didn't know

what to do, so I just kind of— I said hi

to the new guy, and he was like, oh, hi.

Hey, I'm, I'm doing your job now. And I

was like, oh. And I just kind of stood

behind him, not sure what to do, because

you were doing my job. What am I supposed

to be doing? And then the Scottish guy

comes in, he says And Daniel, what the

fuck are you doing? Why are you just

standing there doing nothing? I don't pay

you to do nothing. Well, that's because

you got this new guy to do my job. What am

I supposed to be doing? And he said,

today you won't be in the kitchen. Today

you'll be cleaning my house. Because

there's this house that comes with the job

for the managers, and the house is like

right next door to the, to the restaurant,

the pub. And I went over to the house and

it was The previous owners were living

there, the old woman and the fat guy, and

they had dogs. And the Scottish guy said

the place was absolutely disgusting, like

there's dog piss soaked into the carpet

and he had to rip everything out. Um,

they lived like slobs, my previous

managers, and the whole house was bare,

everything was stripped out, it was just

really dusty and dirty. And I spent the

whole day having to clean the house.

With, um, a mop and a wet piece of cloth,

and I had to wipe all the dust off the

windowsills and the windows and clean out

all the dead flies and the insects. It was

horrible. Anyway, this went on

for about a few months working with this

Scottish guy, and every day it would be

the same. He'd be swearing at me, saying

I'm too slow, saying I'm doing this wrong,

saying, why don't you wipe underneath

this, underneath the objects? You know,

things like that, things that weren't

really problems with the previous manager,

and I just couldn't take it. After a few

months, I just said to him, I quit,

because my dad got me a job at his office.

And I said, I'm gonna quit today. And you

know what his reaction was? He said, he

said, good, you know, just good. So

childish. He said, You're the worst

kitchen porter I've ever had. You're just

terrible. And then he said, oh, so you're

going to be working at an office now. You

know, office jobs, you need a lot of, um,

you need good communication skills. You

don't really have good communication

skills, do you? I think you're gonna

struggle. That was literally what he said.

It was a pretty good job until the

Scottish guy came. I felt very comfortable

there. I didn't have to work in a team or

deal with customers, so I was very happy.

I guess I didn't really get— I didn't get

fired, I quit. I nearly said I didn't get

quired. That's a new word. Yeah, I ended

up quitting by myself just because I got a

new job, and that was that. The end of

nearly 2 years as being a human
