I LOST my Job - DO NOT work for Evri!

As some of you may know already, I've been

working as a delivery driver for the last

few months.

I've been working for a company called

Every.

I guess I don't need to keep it a secret

anymore now that I've lost the job.

I have been banned from the app that

manages all the scanning of the parcels

and the, you know, the other driver stuff.

I've been banned from the app, so I've

been basically fired, I guess you could

say.

And today I'm going to talk about what it

was like working for Every, why Every

sucks and is one of the worst delivery

companies to work for.

So Every used to be called Hermes.

They had change their company name and

rebrand because their reputation was so

bad across the country.

Everyone knew that Hermes or Evri had a

terrible reputation and parcels would go

missing all the time, and it was just a

complete mess of a company.

And as someone who worked there for 2

months, I can kind of see why.

First of all, the management is just an

utter joke.

Half the time the manager is not even on

site, and when you have problems and

you're trying to contact him, he doesn't

even reply, or he'll just kind of read

your message and then not say anything.

And then you see him at the site and then

you're like, why didn't you reply?

And then he just says, oh, sorry, I was

off.

And then he never bothers to actually

reply until you see him in person.

Things go wrong all the time.

You go to the depot and sometimes your

parcels are not there because someone else

has taken them, or the lorry that's

supposed to bring the parcels has broken

down and now it's late and everyone's just

standing around waiting for it to arrive.

Everything was just a complete mess,

really chaotic.

Also, the pay is pretty rubbish.

So you only get paid about on average 50

pence per parcel.

If the parcel's bigger and heavier, you

get paid about 70 pence a pound, which is

nice, but you don't get many of those.

You only get a couple.

And if the parcel is small, like a really

small parcel, you only get paid about 35

pence, and you get quite a lot of those.

So you get a lot of the small ones, a lot

of the standard-sized ones, and maybe a

couple oversized big ones.

So in general, if you're going to deliver

about 80 parcels, which is pretty

standard— usually you get about 80 to 100

parcels to deliver in a day, and that will

take about 3 to 4 hours— and you'd usually

make about £40, maybe £35 to £40.

If you're quicker, maybe you can get it

done in under 3 hours.

And Every claims that they are paying you

above minimum wage or at least minimum

wage.

And I guess you could say technically

that's true if you're quick and you finish

under 3 hours and you've made about £40,

you've technically made about £13 an hour.

But if you're just starting, you're going

to be extremely slow.

On my first day, it took me like 6 or 7

hours to deliver 80 parcels.

So that's like, I don't know, under £8 an

hour because I was really slow.

But as you get faster, I guess the hourly

rates would increase, but you don't really

get paid per the hour.

You get paid per parcel that you deliver.

So yeah, if you are quick, you'll get

better hourly rates, but they don't factor

in the fact that you've got to do about an

hour of work at the depot unloading the

lorry that arrives in the morning.

It's like a big lorry that arrives in the

morning full of parcels that you've now

got to help all the other drivers unload

the lorry and then put them into the

shipping containers.

And then you've also got about half an

hour work of loading your parcels into

your car.

So you've got about an hour's work at the

depot that you don't get paid for.

They don't pay you for this.

So it doesn't matter if it takes you half

an hour at loading or 1 hour loading, you

still don't get paid any more or any less.

So you only get paid for the parcels you

deliver, not how much time you end up

getting stuck at a depot for.

So the depot is— you'd imagine it's like a

warehouse, wouldn't you?

You'd think like big warehouse, lots of

space, lots of room with a roof.

Actually, it's not.

It's basically just a big plot of land,

like a big industrial plot of land next to

some fields with a bunch of shipping

containers on them, like 20 shipping

containers locked with a little padlock.

So what you do is you show up there in the

morning or whenever you want to show up,

and then you open the shipping container,

and then the shipping container will just

be full of parcels that have just been

chucked in there.

I have seen them unload the lorry before,

and they do not treat your parcels with

care.

They're basically just tossing the parcels

in there, drop-kicking the parcels into

the shipping container, lobbing them in.

They don't care at all about things being

fragile.

If the box says fragile on it, they'll

still will just chuck it right in there.

So if you wonder why your parcels are

damaged or the boxes are ripped or

anything, which happens a lot, you have to

bring your own like roll of tape to fix

boxes because a lot of customers get upset

if you try and deliver them a box with a

hole in it.

If you wonder why your parcels are

damaged, it's because they're basically

just chucking them around in the shipping

container.

So you get there, you open the shipping

container, you hope that it's not a

complete mess full of parcels and boxes,

and you try and find your round, your

number route.

And then you've got now carry out all the

boxes of your route and all the bags and

sacks of parcels out to your car and lay

them out, scan them all one by one, and

then put them into your car.

Now, if you're experienced, you'll know

exactly where they're going to be

delivered because you'll remember exactly

the place you're delivering to and you

know every street.

So you can just put them into your car

based on memory.

But if you're new to it, you don't know

where anything is.

You then have to order each parcel from 1

until 80, depending on how many you got.

And you can only do this by scanning it

and then scanning it again to bring up the

little label that brings up the drop

number based on your routes.

And that takes ages because you've got to

scan them and then scan them again and

write a number on the box and then put it

in your car ordered by the numbers so you

know where they are.

Otherwise, you're going to spend ages

looking for parcels that get lost in your

car.

So yeah, loading your car can take a long

time if you are not experienced.

And even if you are experienced, it's

going to take at least 30 to 40 minutes to

bring all your parcels out of the shipping

container, label them— I mean, scan them—

and then put them into your car.

And no one helps you.

Not like Amazon Flex where they bring out

a trolley with all your parcels right next

to your car for you.

No, you got to do it all yourself and

manually get them out of the container.

And this is okay if the weather's good,

but like I said before, there's no roof.

So when it rains, everything gets soaked.

Your whole parcels, all your parcels will

get soaked.

The cardboard boxes will get damp and

start falling apart.

Everything in your car gets wet because

the parcel's all wet and it's getting

loaded into your car.

So your car starts smelling bad because

it's just getting all damp.

And also you're going to get drenched head

to toe.

You'll get completely soaked.

And there's no roof, so you're going to

get soaked.

And the floor covered in deep puddles of

water, so you can be wading through

puddles of muddy water.

And they're supposed to— they say you're

supposed to stand inside of the shipping

container if it rains to scan everything,

but it's kind of crowded in there because

other people are in there, and then

there's loads of parcels and not much

room.

And even if you do that you're still going

to get soaked when you carry the parcels

out of the container to your car.

So when it rains, it is a complete

nightmare.

On my third day, it actually rained all

day long and I got completely soaked.

My phones got soaked and water got into

the charging port, which meant that I

couldn't charge my phone because it kept

saying cannot charge, water detected in

port.

My phones were dying.

I wasn't prepared.

I was freaking out.

But luckily I had 2 phones and I was able

to use my second phone as a backup phone

after my first phone died.

So yeah, that was pretty chaotic and it

took me like 8 hours to deliver 100

parcels in the pouring rain.

I got completely soaked.

Your hair gets all wet.

It's hard to touch the phone screen when

everything's wet.

Everything just becomes difficult.

And to make matters worse, the shipping

label with the barcode that you scan gets

all wet and starts falling apart, so you

can't even scan the barcode anymore.

It was just horrible.

Also, the manager was kind of shady.

He basically lied to me about how much

money I was going to make.

So when I asked him how much I was going

to make every day, he said, so if you're

delivering about 70 to 80 parcels, you're

going to easily be making £75 a day.

And I thought, oh my God, that's amazing.

I'm going to make so much money.

And then after a month I realized, wait a

minute, I'm only making about £30 to £40 a

day for delivering 80 parcels.

And he kept saying he was going to give me

this other route which has more parcels

and it's easier.

But 2 months later, I didn't hear anything

about this other route that he was

promising me.

So he makes a lot of promises.

He talks big about numbers to make you

interested and get you hooked in.

And then once you're in, he just kind of

stops talking to you and gives you the

cold shoulder.

And doesn't really reply to your messages

much.

And you're kind of just left to your own

devices to get on with it, basically.

So I think I was working about 4 to 5

hours a day, 6 days a week, by the way,

Monday to Saturday with only Sundays off.

I was making about £800 in a month.

And that's not very good considering

you're working basically every day.

Okay.

It's not a full day, like an 8-hour day.

You're only working about 4 hours and

you're making about £800.

If you did full time and you delivered

about 200 parcels a day, which is going to

be full time, 8 to 9 hours a day, you

might make £1,600 a month, and that's

before expenses.

If you factor in expenses like fuel, wear

and tear on your vehicle, insurance, that

kind of stuff, it's going to be way lower.

So I drive an electric vehicle, and even

with that, I was having to charge my car

once every 2 days from 50% to 100%, which

cost me about £5.

So in electricity, it was costing me about

£80 a month in electricity.

So I was only making about £800.

Minus £80 electricity, minus wear and

tear.

By the way, I got a puncture, so I had to

replace the tire, which cost £140.

And then I also smashed my phone by

accident because I was just so flustered,

had so much to do, and I forgot that I, I

left my phone in the door hinge of the car

boot.

I slammed down the car door— I mean, the

car boot door— and it smashed it.

So I had to buy a new phone, which cost

£140.

So Wear and tear expenses like £300 for

the tire and the phone minus charging

£400.

So if you're lucky, I made probably on

average £500 to £600 in a month after

doing all of that work.

And you might be thinking, why did I get

banned?

Why did I get fired?

And honestly, I don't even know.

Just one day I tried to log into the app

and it just said, you have been disabled,

your account has been disabled, you don't

have permission to log in.

So I sent a message to the manager and he

says he also doesn't know why I've been

blocked.

And banned, and then he's gonna try and

find out why.

It's been about a week now.

I haven't heard from the manager.

I haven't had a text or anything.

I haven't even had an email from Every

explaining to me that I've been banned and

for what reason.

I didn't get any warning.

I just one day got banned.

And yeah, okay, maybe I wasn't the best

delivery driver.

Maybe I broke some rules here and there,

but I think I deserve at least a warning

or at least an explanation as to why I've

been banned.

And I haven't heard anything from the

manager, and I guess I could phone him,

but I just don't really care at this point

because I don't even want to do the job

anymore.

It's not worth it.

It's a lot of hard work for only chump

change, like £600 a month, which is

rubbish.

I'm not doing that work and risking

damaging my car or risking getting into a

road accident or breaking my phones just

to make £500 or £600 after expenses a

month.

It's so not worth it.

I did get to experience doing a couple

full-time shifts to cover someone else,

and it took me about 6 hours to deliver

200, nearly 200 parcels, and I hated it.

I was so tired, I was so worn out.

There's no way I could do that every day.

And it just makes me think, I'm so glad

that I didn't choose to quit YouTube and

focus on being a full-time driver because

I would have been so miserable.

Do you know what it feels like to have to

deliver over 150 parcels in a day?

And you've got so many parcels you can't

fit it into your car, so you have to

deliver 100 first, go back, pick up the

other 100, and you're on the roads for

like 6 or 7 hours and you've got to try

and find find places to urinate because

you can't just— I mean, you're gonna have

to urinate at some point.

You've got to bring food with you.

It's horrible.

I would not want to do that work for the

whole of my life.

I did it for 2 months.

I think I've had enough.

I did 3 months previously on Amazon Flex

and I've had enough.

I just don't want to do delivery work ever

again.

I hate it.

I don't know how people do— they— I don't

know how people get a van and they just do

this for year after year after year.

I don't know how they put up with it

without going crazy.

It's the most horrible job ever.

The parcels, it's like a never-ending

mountain of parcels in your car that just

never seem to get smaller and smaller

after hours and hours of work.

And the pay is rubbish.

The risk of damage to your car is bad.

So yeah, I just don't want to do this

anymore.
